This supermarket is very spacious and big, It's at a great part of Toronto. Extremely clean! It is expensive, but you do get great quality food and groceries. I've shopped here a few times now and feel like I can write an honest review. As far as large grocery stores go, I give Loblaws 5 stars for pure aesthetics. It's a beautiful place to shop with enough throwback for a fan of the Maple Leaf Gardens of old without being too kitschy. The one thing I was surprised about is that, even though the space is massive compared to other downtown core grocery stores, the selection isn't significantly better. There are a few speciality items (especially new PC Brand stuff) that you may not be able to find in other locations, but most of the aisles are filled with repeat items. What this Loblaws has that other local grocery stores don't is a packet of luxuries all in one place. They have a big cheese selection, a big bread selection, a butcher, a fishmonger, ready-to-eat sushi, a cupcake booth, chocolate by the chunk, and all sorts of other gimmicks. But if all you want to do get the items on your list and get home, I much prefer the No Frills we frequent on Sherbourne. In addition, I haven't confirmed it yet, but it seems like this Loblaws increases their prices on exactly the same items that you could get a few minutes away at No Frills. Overall a cool place to shop and a great addition to the neighbourhood. I'll be in there for a few things now and again but I don't see it as a great place to do your bulk shopping unless you have lots of time and lots of money. read more

HOLY CRAP! I had read the reviews upon the opening of this massive Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens but nothing can really prepare you for how vast and impressive it truly is! They really have every item that you could ever want - the selection is fantastic. I initially just meandered into the store to take a look around but I inevitably started shopping. It was all just too appealing (plus I went on an empty stomach after work...not wise...). I was worried when I'd read other reviews that this place was super busy, but I suppose all the hype has died down a bit because I didn't find it any busier than any other grocery store. It was a little bit difficult locating things at first, but that's to be expected at any store you're not used to shopping at. I love the feeling of a farmers market that they've created in the produce, bakery and deli section of the store. Is it as good as the St. Lawrence Market? No, but it's pretty darn fantastic for a grocery store! read more

The US urban planner in me has no real feelings about Maple Leaf Gardens, and instead thinks "cool adaptive reuse in an urban space." The Canadian die-hard Leafs fan in my husband, is heartbroken that this monumental space now houses a grocery store, yet is someone relieved that they didn't tear the whole thing down. The layout is intuitive - prepared foods on one side; grocery items on another. We weren't there to shop, just browse, though it seemed like they had a large selection. There's a ton of cheese, a deli-prepared foods area, sushi area, patisserie, bakery - you can easily eat a large lunch here. Upstairs is the Joe Fresh and LCBO as well as a giant maple leaf crafted out of old seats from Maple Leaf Gardens. We TTC'd it (get off at College station then walk about a block east) but the underground parking is free for up to 90 minutes with validation. read more

I was so happy to discover that Maple Gardens would no longer be languishing in developer hell. I've lived in the neighbourhood for 5+ years and that whole time this monument to hockey remained quiet, still, home to some very sketchy characters haunting the various nooks & crannies. Now it's a Loblaws, viola! It's a decent grocery store, has everything and more. Lovely pastry section, the wall of cheese is something to behold. But it is seriously overpriced in some regards - charging restaurant prices for their pre-packaged sushi, there is no bargain bin for meats (like at the Metro at College Park) and sometimes you don't want to spend $7.00 on a small packet of ground beef. It's great it has a medical clinic and pharmacy. For a grocery store pharmacy, again, it is overpriced. Most grocery stores who also have an in-house pharmacy do not charge dispensing fees nearly equal to that of Shopper's Drugmart or Rexall/PharmaPlus. The true downside to this grocery store is the sheer number of suburbanites who show up cos they think it's cool to shop for their eggs/milk/yoghurt/tampons in the middle of centre-ice. During the week it isn't too bad. But if you live in the neighbourhood avoid this place on weekends, best do your shop in the middle of the week. read more

This is the best grocery store I've ever been in - walls and walls of gourmet cheeses, baked bread, olives, soups, prepared meals, bakery, sushi, gelato...a produce section to die for...and then a regular grocery store with a million items ready to go. This store was also in the old arena where the Maple Leafs used to play and so we got to see the famous orange dot that's where center ice once was...so fun for my kids. read more

This grocery store is a Foodie's dream!!! Loblaws @ Maple Leaf Gardens is bright and beautiful and is simply a one stop shop. The T&T affiliated sushi counter makes the best sushi in Toronto!!!! I am not kidding and I am a tough critic :) They have already prepared sushi, but you can also put in a special order and they will make it for you on the spot. My favourite special order is tuna, with brown rice and avocado. One star off for the prices...I find the sushi on the more expensive side and the in-store fresh salad bar can set you back $15-20 just for a salad!!! A small container of grapes is like, $5!!! Also, make sure you check the expiry dates on EVERYTHING. They do not do regular checks for products past their "best before" date and they will even put these items on sale, which seems a bit unethical to me? (although, I suppose it's good that the items are not just getting thrown out..) I love the self service check outs...so many people are scared to use them for some odd reason, so I can quickly pay for my groceries and get out, without having to talk to anyone , ha :) read more

Meh. It's all hype right now, maybe I'll update my review once I've spent a few times in this particular location. Then again, maybe I'm saying meh, since while I was walking through here, I couldn't help but think that I was walking somewhere near center ice. Or maybe I'm saying meh, because what a ZOO. Way too many people in there gawking, so if you're going into this particular location, don't really plan on getting groceries done. The superstore Walmarts have more open cashiers than this location, I can only imagine how busy this location may be closer to the Christmas rush. On the other hand, this grocery store is huge - I wonder how much money it will lose as the hype wears off? How much produce will go to waste? Right now, it's meh. I find it weird that there are police/security at the door. Word to the wise, don't steal a bananna! Oh ya, parking is not free, you have to spend $18.00, who came up with that strange total? So don't plan on driving and stopping in to grab something on the way to a party! 3 stars for creating jobs in the area. This is probably the best grocery store in Toronto. Fantastic aesthetic presentation, a variety of well-prepared gourmet foods, and knowledgeable staff. One of my favourite places in the world is the Food Hall in the London landmark Harrod's, and this is as close as it gets in Toronto. There's a fantastic selection of cheeses, a caviar bar, and a European-style Pâtisserie. There's also a gelato bar by the exit onto Carlton - and it's fantastic. $2.99 for a large scoop of gelato, which is far cheaper than anywhere else in the city, and the quality is comparable to anywhere you'll find this side of the Atlantic. read more

Goods are more expensive here than at other stores, but the selection is terrific. I sometimes wonder if some of the staff enjoy working here, because they seem to be unhappy at times. Recently, the store appears to be showing its age. Washrooms on the main floor are closed. Neither elevator works. The escalators are often out of service. With people who use walkers or scooters, or are pushing a stroller, having elevator access is vital. In short, the store just isn't quite what it was when it first opened. read more

I'm from Boston and shop mainly at Wholefoods. I have to say this was my finest shopping experience to date. Everything about the store makes Sense, quality, specialty foods, selection. WOAH...I don't think i've seen so much cheese in my entire life! WALL OF CHEESE Such a cute idea. I think it's more of a display item then anything else. It's a neat idea. Apparently there are cheese experts there that will help you match your cheese selection with whatever you're eating. SUSHI BAR Order, sit down and watch the chefs make your sushi in front of you. It's funny b/c the chefs are all asian. VEGETABLES I was disappointed with their bitter melons. I had a manager go up to me and say "we have the most fresh produce from our competitors!" and then I point to him the bitter melon. They were old, damaged and turning brown. He said he would look into it. An hour later, none of them had moved. I would expect to see these old bitter melons in the "reduced price" section but they weren't. I guess this is what they consider fresh? SALAD BAR I like making my own salads but I'm not too crazy about other people touching the tongs and then putting the whole tong back into the salad toppings. EWW. They should have a separate place to put the tongs! FLOORS The floors were really slippery. I wouldn't be surprised if they had people falling. Love this location and have been coming here for a few years, but since the implementation of self checkout I dread shopping here. Bring back the staff that got me checked out in no time. The wonky machine that requires a person to scan your mobile phone PC Plus points barcode is horrendous. Don't get me started on the "Please put the item back in the bag..."message. Disclosure: I live in the area and was excited that something other than another Sobeys was moving in. The service at this location was fabulous when they first opened. Shiny, happy people everywhere. "Welcome to Loblaws!, how can I help you?" Sadly, those days seem to be gone. I was hooked on one of their donut products. Every time I went in, I'd be overcharged, in spite of me putting the PLU in big letters on the bag. The cashier would simply ignore it and put another one in. Numerous complaints to the manager didn't seem to help. Then they started hiring cashiers that couldn't speak English (or at least told me in broken English that they couldn't, and thats why they didn't say hello) Or, when you walked up and said hello, they'd ignore you and ask if you wanted plastic bags. One guy actually yawned with his mouth wide open as he scanned my stuff and waited for my money. Um, how much is it? I asked. He pointed at the total, that only he could see, without so much of a word. Other cashiers will roll their eyes at you when you point out a scanning error, or have an argument with you about it. Now I worked for many years in grocery including as a cashier, so I'm probably one of the nicest customers any of them will encounter because I've been on the other side of the till. If you don't visit frequently, perhaps you'd never notice some of this. I tried the cupcakes twice and both times they were as hard as, fittingly, hockey pucks. When I returned them, the person at the bakery counter said, "it's not our fault, they aren't even made here". Yes, it's a big store, good selection, but it's a shining example of something that could have been so much more. (A manager I spoke to lamented that it was SO hard finding good help these days - really?) What happened to all those happy souls from opening day? It's also sad that other businesses have gone under or had to downsize because of the impact this behemoth has had on their business. It appears that Loblaws is now big enough that they don't have to care anymore. I wrote several letters to HQ describing what was going on at this location and how nothing was being done - no response. I no longer shop here unless it's absolutely necessary. Watch your receipts for incorrect price scanning. If you've got time on your hands, you could probably get something free just about every time you visit. read more

This is the epitome of a sleek, modern gourmet superstore! From the spacious underground parking garage, you take an elevator or escalator to the main shopping for where you are greeted by a coffee shop area with grab and go treats and baked goods. Next, you see the prepared foods areas, with a sweet bakery and candy section, artesian breads, a pizza and pasta station and finally, a rotisserie and hot meal section. I tried their hot breakfast and found it to be a great bargain, with fresh baked tomatoes, eggs, roasted potatoes and a hot tea for around eight dollars. Everything I purchased at this store was pre packaged, so it was wonderful to see that the chilled foods and juices were kept at a nice cool temperature and the hot foods were sufficiently hot. As visitors to the GTA, this is a great place to get delicious foods and snacks at a good price within walking distance to many hotels. read more

One good point- convenience. But the grocery is expensive! $1-3 more on general produce. I guess they have to make up the rent. I come here occasionally for desserts. Their macarons used to be good, but they started decreasing the sizes for them, and they taste chalky now. I had one of the fruit berry egg white crumble, forgot the name of it, but it was soggy. Also a mint chocolate cake, which tasted like cheap artificial flavour syrup. The chocolates tasted watered down, like they diluted their chocolates with fructose. It def lacks any cocao flavour. Their gelato from their cafe bar were disgusting. The pistachio tasted like cough syrup. The frozen custard was loaded with sugar since every bite had sugar grains in it. The coffee is really bad; they have the machines to make good coffee and drinks, but the barista just don't know how to use it properly. It's such a shame. When it first opened this place was great. But now the services are appalling. Don't get pulled in because of the great interior design and the grandeur of things. $4 for two avocados? It's a giant vaccum for people who has the money and don't have the time to go anywhere else. read more

This Loblaws on Carlton street don't cook their Baretta Rotiserie chicken well! This is the third time I bought. The back side is not cooked well. When I took the wings off the whole chicken that i bought there was blood on the exposed side. They display their chicken breast up it looks well cooked, but the back side is not visible. I found out back side is under cooked when I get home to eat it. I had to put it in the oven to cook it some more. Maybe they are shortening their cooking time to save on energy, or cut corners. I don't know what is their reason for undercooked Rotiserie Baretta Chicken . read more

This is a review of Loblaws home delivery service, Instacart. I ordered through them twice and noticed on their website that they do not have all the items available at Loblaws. Then, when my order arrived, both times, it was obvious that all the items, except the "President's Choice" ones, and esecially the fresh fruit and vegetables were definitely not from Loblaws. The quality was inferior to that of a No Frill's store and even the stickers on the items were definitely not from Loblaws. I was charged Loblaws prices but got dollar store quality. Will not use Loblaws home delivery service again unless they fire Instacart and hire someone who will actually deliver what a customer orders FROM LOBLAWS. I read more

Ive been a customer at Loblaws MLG since Day 1. Even went survived 2 years of construction in anticipation of this amazing store. Initially it was fantastic. But the last 12 months I have noticed a significant deterioration in everything about the store. Prices are creeping up. Why are avocados 2.69 at Loblaws and1.99 at Sobeys. Bananas .79 and elsewhere they are .69. Buy 2 loaves of bread for 5.00 now 5.50. Do you think we dont notice ? Shelves are often empty and have run out of basics, like milk. The store is not as well maintained and the staff seemed to be disgruntled. It is not the awesome shopping experience it used to be. Loblaws is not my first choice anymore. And yes I used to brag that I live so close. Not any anymore. I check out Metro and Sobeys. I dont mind paying the money if everything was up to scratch but an overall deterioration indicates the store cannot keep up with the increased traffic and more to come with condos going up all the time. And we do have a choice where we shop. It was outstanding while it lasted but so disappointing now. JUST NOTICED IT IS THE LOCALS WHO ARE GETTING UPSET AND SHOPPING ELSEWHERE. CLEARLY MLG STORE HAS BECOME A TOURIST ATTRACTION. I LOVE LOBLAWS! I cant believe im so passionate about a grocery store, but with all the horrible supermarkets in the city, this place is like a mecca. I spent the last 2 years shopping at the bloor/spadina Metro, which was awful. Besides geographic convenience, I hated this place. Empty shelves, rotting fruit - gross. I look forward to grocery shopping now, thanks to this store. Its even fun just to walk around. Loblaws first off, is huge which a shopper could love or hate. The aisles are huge, which makes for a more comfortable experience, rare to have in a downtown store. If you notice they don't carry a product, let them know and they will order and stock it based on your request. If you cant find something, ask an employee and they will personally walk you to the item and show you all the different products, even if its all the way across the store. Regular city prices on all items. Great prepared foods/ deli counter, and an amazing selection of speciality items throughout the store. read more

At first, I was a little shocked and upset that a grocery store was going to take over Maple Leaf Gardens. But, I really like that they have kept the history of the space. When you enter, you will see a huge blue maple leaf made from actual seats from the arena. The wall is not completely finished, you can enjoy some of the wear and tear of cracks in the mortar. Seating in the dining area also uses the arena seats, complete with your aisle number still intact. They have made a great use of the historic sight and prevented it from being torn down or worse... turned into condos. I thoroughly enjoy coming here each week to buy groceries, browse, and enjoy the atmosphere. You never have a long wait to check out, they have cashiers and self-check out for those of you who are in a hurry or prefer to do it yourself. As an American who recently moved to Toronto, I really appreciate this grocery store. It is truly an American style grocery store, which means everything in one spot for those who are too busy to go to 5 different stores to check off everything on your shopping list. I really really enjoy going to this grocery store. It's so well-organized that even with the sheer volume of groceries, it doesn't feel cramped or too busy. There is plenty of organic produce, interesting samples of foods and recipes (from their PC cooking classes), and a wide variety of prepared foods (such as desserts, hot foods, sushi.... you name it). Pretty much, it's such a large grocery store that it has everything you want to find. Some may consider the prices to be a little high, but consider it a convenient one-stop-shop for all of your needs: vitamins, aprons, cleaning supplies, gelato... need I say more? They have so many varieties that there will always be SOMEthing on sale. Also, there is never a long line to check out! If you park underground, you can your ticket validated as well. Unfortunately for me, I always leave spending a LOT more than what I plan to (mostly because I can't help but feel like I should buy everything in front of me). This supermarket kicks ass. I'm unfamiliar with all of the tales, rumours, myths and legends surrounding this location, but I'm sure it was lovely to listen to. In any event, this place is HUGE. I ended up parking in their underground lot, as I was visiting someone staying at the Holiday Inn next door. As mentioned, if you spend $20 inside, you can have an hour and a half validated off of what you owe for parking. What they don't tell you however, is that if you stay in their lot for more than 3 hours, you're automatically subjected to a flat-rate of $40. Gwah? Confused by the lack of signage informing me of such things, I went over to customer service and inquired as to how being in a "$4 every half-hour" lot for just over 3 hours lands a $40 fee, and was told the tragic news. I was pissed, but no matter, the wonderfully awesome employee validated my pass for the whole amount, but told me next time I'd have to purchase at least the $20 to get it validated. I ended up buying up a ton of stuff before I left anyhow (guilt perhaps? I dunno), but that was still super sweet of her to do it without knowing. What else to say about this supermarket? They have a terrific bakery (maple bacon donuts anyone?), a nice little cafe section, an insane cheese wall, and has as great of a general grocery selection as any other place you could think of. The size of this Loblaws is unbelievable!! Even in the suburbs, I'm not sure if you could find a grocery store as large as this.But, the cool thing is that half of it is like your typical grocery store with various aisle ways and stuff, but the other half is kinda like a fresh food market! They have various stations, one for baked desserts, one for deli, prepared foods, salads, and many, many more!!! The quality of the food is remarkably fresh too, made right there in front of you!! Another great thing about this place is the FREE SAMPLES!!!!!! I mean really, who doesn't love trying stuff for free?! Toward the store entrance, they have a little care where you can get tasty coffee and desserts for a very reasonable price, and even have cute tables and chairs to sit at and enjoy your food. Plus, they have free Wi-Fi!!!! so bring your laptops, tablets, or smartphone, grab a coffee and some fresh food, and simply sit back and relax! :) read more

The "Mother of all Supermarkets" in Toronto, this humongous store is conviently stocked with abundant groceries, as well as specialty food shops (bakery, cheese shop, bake shop, and sushi bar). Built on the former arena where the Toronto Maple Leafs played their home games pre-1980, the use of the former space (now a historic landmark) is impressive. With plenty of check-outs, reliable staff and a LCBO and Joe Fresh apparel shop (surprisingly owned by Loblaws), it's a great place to stock up on favorites for anyone residing or visiting the area. While prices are a bit high, the presence of the store has stolen a lot of business from the neighboring Metro supermarket located down the street in College Park. Trivia: The Maple Leaf Gardens (site of the supermarket) is the first venue Elvis Presley performed for the first time outside the United States. Madonna performed live here in 1984 during her "Like a Virgin" tour. read more

TL;DR: Do not buy gift cards from the open racks at Loblaws Maple Leaf Gardens or other retailers. There is a good chance that you will lose the value on your purchase. Getting help will be a struggle. Enticed by an offer of additional PC points, I bought 6 gift cards from the Maple Leaf Gardens Loblaws store in July. However, I later discovered that the value of 2 of the cards had disappeared. My research revealed that there is a common scam whereby cards are taken off the rack, copied, and then returned. When the cards are activated, the scammers then use up the loaded value. Online Customer Service did not help and stopped answering my emails. I only got help when I returned to Maple Leaf Gardens and directly spoke to a Customer Service Manager. Eventually, a refund was issued for 1 of the cards, hence my monetary loss was low. Even so, this was a frustrating experience, particularly as Customer Service (online and in-person) acted as if this was the very first time they had handled this type of problem. That is not the truth. Retailers are well aware of this issue. This is the reason why Visa and Mastercard gift cards are protected with a cardboard sleeve (which easily show signs of tampering) and are frequently kept behind the counter. Online, I provided them with my Shoppers/PC ID which shows years of customer purchases. In person, I showed them a copy of my personal ID. Yet, I was still made to feel that I was a scammer out to milk Loblaws out of a few bucks instead of a customer seeking redress. read more

This store does not offer the weekly flyer for shoppers and not all products in the flyer are not available in the store. For some reason, this store considers itself exalted and will not sink to the level of distributing flyers. This week, Saputo quiches are on sale but the Maple Leaf store does not sell them, preferring to sell you their own store-made quiches. Another product limiting device is making the ACE bakery so large and putting conventional bread products in an alcove easily missed by shoppers. They want to force on me their products and services but I have my own choices and can readily take my money elsewhere. But, it's early days yet and they will come to their senses. read more

Brand new on-site medical clinic at Loblaws with little to no wait time!! I have been there a few times and each and every time the doctors have been wonderfully attentive. It's conveniently located right beside the pharmacy (just up the stairs) so it's very easy to pick up prescriptions after seeing the doc. The Loblaws itself is a wonderful experience. After my visit to the med clinic, I find myself getting lost in aisles of deliciousness. Absolutely worth checking out. read more
