I initially visited Loc Lov - DC for a consultation with La'Keisha (Keisha). She was very knowledgeable about natural haircare, hair types and textures and patient in answering my questions. As a result of my conversation with her and in consideration of the salon's positive reputation, I decided to make an appointment. During my appointment, I received a relaxing hair wash, conditioning and steam treatment. Antoine, the person who shampooed my hair, was very attentive, thorough and gentle. Once he finished, he escorted me to the styling section of the salon for Keisha to style my hair. Keisha was professional, creative, efficient and very gentle in styling my hair. I've been a consistent and loyal customer and have always received top notch service and professionalism. From Billy's wonderful hair wash to Anthony' s humor, I claim Loc Luv as my only home. However, I am sad to say that you have grown and have forgotten those core values. TWICE you have failed to follow through with a scheduled appointment. You guys charge money when client is late, so what is our reciprocity for such inconsiderate and poor service. I know that you are moving and trying to manage through COVID, so I doubt that anyone will even respond. However, I needed to make it clear that I do support black businesses and excellence, but we also must hold each other to the standard that you project into the world. Okay, I had to write again about Loc Lov after my experience yesterday. My son had his locs started by a shop in Richmond earlier this year. I did not like the way they looked and could not wait to have Salih get his locs straight. Well, after a consultation, my son went in to Loc Love for maintenance. When I arrived, Salih informed me that my son's locs were not started properly and he could not work with them. So, they took them OUT! This was so much work on Salih and Billy's part, I was really touched and amazed. Any other shop would have taken my money and did the maintenance and sent us home! But not Loc Lov, they truly care about the health of your hair not just the quick buck! My son will be going back to get his locs properly started at Loc Lov next week. I know his hair will be looking hot. I will say this again, if you have dread locs, you must come to Loc Lov! read more

I just want to start by saying the experience I had was TERRIBLE I made appointment at 7:00AM got there at 6:45am. The stylist not get there until 7:45am to do my color I was a little upset because if you tell me to come at 7:00am and am here at 7am so why are you not here. The next thing that happen I waited for stylist Monet for 2 hours to do maintenance and a style for my hair i spend my whole day in the salon. I wouldn't have written this negative review, but if you're going to charge people as much as Loc Lov then your business needs to be run smoothly, and that just wasn't my experience at Loc Lov. I went to the shop to get a required consultation for starting locs. The consultation costs $20 - the consultation took less than 5 minutes and started over 20 minutes late with a different person than I had booked. I booked the appointment for a month later and had to leave a $60 appointment reservation fee. The start was going to cost $160 (which was almost double what I ended up paying at another salon that did a beautiful job). 4 weeks later (4 days before the appointment) someone calls and says they made my appointment for a Maintenance Monday and could not honor it, and their next available appointment was not until a week later - that didn't work for me because I was going out of town (for my wedding) and wanted the start before then. To fix their mistake they offered me an appointment with a different stylist who they told me had been working there for awhile, but there was no record of that stylist working at Loc Lov through any of their social media accounts or website, so I asked the shop to send me her Instagram... of course, she didn't have one. I asked if they had pictures of her work, they did not... they said they could take pictures of the person she was working on right now but never sent them. Turns out when specifically asked "awhile" was really a month and the person I was speaking to did not know of any experience she had doing hair before then. I gave two stars because the staff was always friendly, actually other than the owner himself who I felt rushed my consultation and did not honor my request to book with a specific stylist. I had the most amazing experience today. Hands down THE BEST salon I have ever been to in my life. For this salon to have a strong focus on locs, they also cater to "loose hair" styles as well. I am a natural curly girl and they treated me with the utmost respect, love and care. Quick back story- I actually woke up depressed prior to my appointment and almost cancelled my appointment just because I didn't want to get out of bed but somehow I talked myself into getting up. When I got there, it was as if all of my worries and pain went out the door. The energy in that building alone is nothing short of uplifting, positive,and loving vibes! Everyone from Antoine at the receptionist desk to the owner, Salih treated me like family. Everyone, EVERY SINGLE PERSON, was super nice! It felt like I was at home talking to my cousins. First of all the ambiance there is soothing, relaxing, and welcoming. Whoever did the interior design should get an award because the salon is beautifully decorated with cultural, artistic pieces. I absolutely loved the light fixtures! Salih's choices for salon equipment is superb and modern. My shampoo and deep conditioning treatment with Da'Cari was excellent. I walked upstairs to the smell of eucalyptus and lavender aroma therapy. He really did a great job taking his time detangling my hair and being considerate of how comfortable I was during the cleansing portion of my appointment. He walked me downstairs so that I could meet my stylist, Bonnie, who was sweet and soft spoken. She really was so nice and any questions I had, she had no problem answering very sweetly. I just want to say thank you to the entire staff. Never have I walked in a Salon and felt spiritually moved. You have no idea what I have been through and those few hours in the salon really helped me mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Customer service should have a picture of the Love Loc salon next to it because Salih has instilled in his stylists to be the best of the best. I will most definitely be coming back and I will be telling all my friends and family to come to this salon. Amazing all around experience. This is more than just a salon. Went in for 2 strand twist starter locs. Bonnie did them for me. I'm satisfied with the final product. She's very nice and answered all my questions even after i left the shop. Sent her a dm question and she got back to me in less than 24hrs. Hand't had my hair washed by someone else in a while so that was a nice experience. I like how they have their own products in house and they aren't outrageously priced either. It's a nice one stop shop situation. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that if you have an appt you may not be seen until some time after that time slot. However, it's a hair salon so what do you expect? Started my loc journey a month ago with Pierre and just got my first retwist this week. It was important to me that the process be positive and peaceful. Loc Lov has delivered on that. I'm always greeted as soon as I walk in the door. Dacari's shampoos have to be a preview of what heaven feels like. He's very considerate, will offer to carry your bag, walk down stairs ahead of you and makes sure you're holding the rail as the stairs are slightly steep. The products used during the shampoo are smell amazing and are so relaxing. The atmosphere of the job is fun but not overwhelming and you can participate in he dialogue as much as you want but no one bothers you if you don't. Pierre is always willing to answer any questions I have and gives advice on maintaining my hair between visits. It took me forever to decide on a shop and loctician to start my journey because I wanted a place where I could start and stay. I'm glad this is the location and loctician I chose. read more

Two things before I begin the substance of my review. One, based on the responses from the salon to dissatisfied customers in other reviews, I expect to be thoroughly slammed about my negative review. Two, I am not writing this review hastily or lightly. I have given myself almost two months to reflect on my experience in order to ascertain what I could have done or communicated differently. I had 26 years of lock growth when I visited the shop. (2) My hair had been thinning at the top and it was suggested by my regular stylist (not w/ Loc Luv) that the thinning was being caused by the weight of my hair.(3) When I arrived at LL this situation was camouflaged by the hairstyle I was wearing. (4) I had been following LL for years online and because of its advertising and reviews called them for a consultation to confirm whether a cut was indeed called for. If not, I anticipated just getting maintenance and styling services. (5) I did not use my regular loctician because I have never seen them do any type of cutting --just styling and maintenance; (6) Per the LL stylist it turned that out my hair wasn't just thinning. There were substantial gaps exposing large portions of my scalp caused by medication I was taking that I did not know about. (7) I became aware of the severity of the scalp situation AFTER the stylist cut more than 50 percent of my hair off. (8) What I find profoundly troubling is that prior to cutting my hair--before I was in her chair-- not once during the "consultation" was it conveyed to me that the cut would completely expose the problem with my scalp--even after the wash and before the cut nothing was said; (9) Consequently, I was unable to make an informed decision about whether to go forward with the cut nor did I have any idea of what to expect if I decided to cut my hair. (10) When I realized what had happened and the situation I was left with, and that the person who cut my hair had no idea about how to style my hair so that I didn't leave the shop in tears, (and while being in total SHOCK) --as is usually the case when beauticians ruin your hair, I was made to feel that somehow what happened was my fault--that they couldn't preform magic in styling my hair to cover up the gaps. I tried to play it off my true feelings and ":not act ugly". I did not expect magic. I expected that the consultation would have been adequate. Had it been I either would not have cut my hair at all or certainly not as much. I clearly explained to the stylist how big a deal cutting my hair was and that I wanted to be cautious because cutting my hair was something that couldn't be undone. Even without the information about the gaps in my scalp we agreed on cutting to a specific length that the stylist didn't honor. I specifically asked that enough length be left in order to wear a common hairstyle that I mentioned. But my hair was cut too short for that nevertheless. After paying close to $150.00 for services I am seriously considering shaving my head bald because I really can't do anything with it now and the gaps exposing scalp are too much for my taste. I give this salon an "A" for atmosphere including comfort, decor, and music. But, their scheduling and new customer handling needs a lot of improving. Initially, I made a same-day appointment online for color and received a confirmation. Later they called to cancel it and expressed surprise that their system took the appointment. Okay, no worries I made another appointment. When I arrived on time for a 2:30 pm appointment, there was no receptionist. I was standing there like what to do? A stylist who was working on someone's hair told me to take a seat in the lobby, which I did. 30 minutes later I was still sitting there. Finally, I had to chase someone down and ask what was up. Then someone finally came to say they would be with me soon. ANOTHER 30 MINUTES LATER, nothing. The owner I guess, comes over to chit chat with the person next to me. Then, at his leisure, without introducing himself (as if I should know who he was, never having been there before) asks me what I was there for and was it color? After having waited an hour, I was like "what?" It was truly disappointing. After all this and after doing a strand test, they didn't even have the color I needed - I was speechless. Their styles are nice, but make sure you call before you go to make sure they have you on the schedule - or expect to have your time wasted. read more

Recently, I decided to embark on my loc journey. I first saw locs in D.C. as a kid and wanted to starty journey there. A quick search of salons in the city bought me to Loc Lov. This salon stuck out from the rest because of their positive client reviews, social media presence, committment to natural hair, and sheer talent (check out there site @ www.loclov.com). I made my consultation appointment by calling in. The young lady who scheduled me was very pleasant and was able to get me scheduled quicker than expected. My family and I traveled about 3.5 hours, from NJ, to the salon. Upon entering, we were greeted by Anthony who escorted us to the upstairs waiting area. There waiting was a comfortable seating area, good music, coffee/tea/water, and light refreshments. At my scheduled time Bonnie performed my consult and was amazingly knowledgeable about my hair and the loc process, to include starting my locs, maintenance and product care, and expectations. She answered all of my questions with a confidence that put me at ease. When she asked when I was hoping to start the process I said "immediately". After looking at the salons schedule, I was going to have to come back the next day. That meant I'd be driving for a total of 14 hours over two days! Willing to do this just so I could start my journey here, the owner, Salih graciosuly added me to his client list for the day. We were truly grateful because I understand that he did not have to do that but it speaks to his character, professionalism, and committment to ensuring anyone who walks into Loc Lov leaves completely satisfied. I was taken to have my hair washed by Kim. S/O to her and the salon for using natural haircare products! The wash was the best I've ever had and is worth experiencing no matter what your hair type you have. My hair has never felt so clean and refreshed. Thanks Kim! Salih is the MASTER Loctician! He took the time to explain the process, his diamond part system, the maintenance and care of my hair, what products he uses AND why, and again everything I needed to know to put my mind at ease. I really tried to walk with Loc Lov on this 3rd loc journey - but man, 3rd strike and they're out! The 1 star is for the shampooist - who is heaven - I received a nurturing shampoo and conditioning from her and her energy is warm and welcoming and for one of the receptionists who was cool and funny. Strike 1: I had previously gotten my starter locs done elsewhere, so I visited them a couple of months ago for a maintenance. After the shampoo, I sat in the chair for 15 minutes or so waiting for her to finish another client. When she got to me, she basically told me that the locs weren't started properly, called the manager, and the locs that formed at the base, were somehow insufficient. She wanted to convert my maintenance appointment at $85 to a starter loc appointment at $160. I was annoyed at the upcharge, but I couldn't leave like that, so I accepted it. The first couple of twists done at the base were the perfect size, and she asked me to confirm, which I did. She had someone else waiting, so as she continued she started going faster and faster, until she was racing through it. To make a long story short, when I got home, I realized that they were all different sizes and that essentially, I had paid over $200 for basic two-strand twists! I felt duped and unsatisfied, and I didn't want my locs to be not uniform like that, so I called the manager. She was very nice and told me that she would set me up with someone else to "fix" them. I had to wait a little over a week because this person's schedule was always booked. Boom. Fast forward 8 days. Strike 2: Heavenly wash from the same angel. Move to chair, explained what happened during previous visit. She agreed that the other woman did a lousy job - not the way they were trained. She did an ok job. Now we are ready to leave, and she tells me....I will only charge you $85. I said, no you won't because I will not be paying again after what I experienced above and after just paying $200!? Uh, no. She insisted that she was an expert who needed to be paid and I couldn't believe we were having the conversation, especially considering the conversation with the manager who asked me to return so someone could fix the first woman's mistakes. I suggested she call the manager - who agreed with me that I should not pay a dime. Despite that, I offered the woman my credit card to take a small tip, but she advised that they only took cash. She then asked me to go across the street to the 7-11? Although we had a rough start, I convinced myself to give it another chance and made an appointment with her for 4 weeks later. Strike 3: Day of the appointment. Sat in traffic for 2 hours to get there from Reston only to find.....them closed. It is the day after and still no one has responded to my 2 phone calls. Good stylists but very cocky attitudes. The bigger and more popular the shop has gotten, the less patient they've become with customers. There are lots of great places for natural hair in DC - do a google search and go someplace you'll be treated like a valued customer. After almost 6 years at this shop, I finally decided to try something new and I am incredibly happy that I did. I went to Urban Natural Hair in Silverspring and got great service at a cheaper price. Response to Salih's comment: I had hoped not to get into petty finger pointing here but your response is unfair and flatly false. I have never been a no show. Never. I have cancelled a couple appointments when I had to go to the hospital for bleeding during my pregnancy. That's something any reasonable human being would understand. Yes, I've been late several times. But I have also put up with several late stylists over the years - I had to wait up to 1hour on one occasion to get my hair done. In that context, I was stunned that you would attempt to charge me a $50 cancellation fee for being 13minutes late after you had sent me away to reschedule (which is fair enough). Tacking on a $50 charge was clearly an indication that you did not value my business. That's fair enough and I wish you all the best. This will be my only response. read more

Updated: The morning of December 20, 2020, I had a scheduled 10:30 Loose Hair Consultation with Tamika Bobb. Unfortunately, Tamika was not on time for the appointment. After waiting for approximately 7 minutes on Zoom I contacted the salon and I was told that someone was going to try to reach Tamika to find out the issue. At 10:50, I contacted the salon again and this time someone by the name Denise said she would try to contact Tamika for me. However, I decided that I needed to give up and cancel the appointment and request a refund for my consultation. In actuality, Tamika, as a representative of LocLov, canceled on me by not showing up for the appointment on time and also by not being professional enough to contact me about possible cancellation or rescheduling the appointment. Things happen in life and it's all about how you handle your business. At 11:03 AM, Tamika Bobb called to apologize for missing the appointment. She also offered to reschedule the appointment. One thing I have after living several years of life is to go with your first instinct especially after an unprofessional experience - especially when it's a hair consultation and possible hair styler. I have been natural for 18 years but wanted to go to a shop that was holistic to start my journey as I was starting my journey on a sentimental day. I remembered Loc Lov so decided to give them a try, I came to Loc Lov on March 17 because I wanted a holistic experience starting my loc journey for the third time. I visited Loc Lov years ago when Zee was there and was quite impressed with her maintenance and style of my locs as my original Loctician was unavailable. I went back and forth with the price as I could not see why I was paying 160.00 for two strand twist but after speaking with the very friendly receptionist she told me about the diamond part system they used etc. and so I agreed to let Loc Lov start my locs. I was so excited. I did a consultation with Salih, the owner and made my appointment with Hadiya as Zee was no longer in the area and Salih was booked. I asked the receptionist who was the best available and she told me Hadiya. My appointment was set for 9 am and I was told it would take 2.5 hrs. I arrived at the Salon at 830 am and was greeted by the Receptionist. My hair was washed around 910 am and Hadiyah arrived about 930 am. I showed her a picture of the sz locs I was looking for and she began. Two hours into my hair I could feel that my hair was not half done. I assume the diamond part system is a technique and very intricate but apparently Hadiyah does not have it down good and fast as it took her almost 5 hrs to do two strand twist. My twist were pinned up into a style so I could not really see my twist. At 2:22 pm I was checking out at the register. After sitting for five hrs I was irritated and was just ready to go. I looked at my hair and said thank you. Two and a half weeks later I took my twist down and was not pleased at what I saw. My parts were not all straight. For 160.00 I am not expecting one line to be crooked!!. My twist were different sizes and the diamond parts were different sizes. I was so upset for two several reasons. One I started my loc journey on my mothers second year anniversary of her death and two I spent 185.00 for a journey I would have to restart. I called my old Loctician up and met with him on April 8 to restart my locs. I am ever so pleased as everything I wanted I received. Loc Lov is a beautiful Holistic Salon with respectful, talented and well versed people; however, I was very disappointed that I did not receive the results I was expecting. I will def recommended them for styles or loc maintenance but not for starting locs as my experience was not what I expected. The price you pay should go with the quality of service you receive and I did not receive a quality loc journey of $185.00, it was money wasted and I had to go elsewhere to have my hair corrected. read more

Got there I ask for finger coil she did two string twist on my hair with bantu knot. That was totally not what i asked for. Paid $165 I could have done that myself , I was so upset and running late for my daughter bus I just left. But now that I am thinking about I should have told her no that's not what I ask for . From the seamless online scheduling system, to the convenient salon location (only a 10 min walk from Silver Spring metro station) to the awesome hospitality/customer service shown by not only Salih but his apprentice Thomas as well AND to the actual maintenance and styling of my hair -- my first Loc Lov Styles experience was amazing. I had a very frustrating experience here today. I booked an appointment online for a Sisterlocks styling. I really just needed a cut, but was excited about getting my hair styled too since I'm usually pretty simple with my styles. I get there on time and check in. I sit down and wait... and wait... and wait. After 30 minutes I ask the receptionist how much longer it's going to be, and she goes over to the stylist to ask. She comes back and says 5-10 more minutes, so I continue waiting. A couple minutes later, I'm asked by a different person if I'm ready to get my hair washed. I tell her that I washed my hair 2 days ago in anticipation of this appointment and so I don't need another wash. Anyone who is knowledgeable about Sisterlocks knows that after washing them, you have to separate each individual loc so that your hair doesn't tangle and you don't lose your parts. I have a LOT of hair so I always do the separating myself. Anyways, after I tell her I don't need my hair washed, she says ok and walks over to tell the stylist. I think the everything is fine and continue waiting. 45 minutes after I've checked in, the stylist comes over to tell me that I have to get my hair washed in order to get a style. I tell her that I just washed my hair and tell her about the separating you have to do with Sisterlocks, and it doesn't matter. She says I can't get anything done, not even a cut, if I don't get my hair washed there. There was NOTHING about this policy online when I booked the appointment. And I know they would not take the time to separate each Sisterlock after they wash my hair, so I just leave because I'm not going to risk the integrity of my hair. So I basically waited there for 45 minutes for nothing. If that's your policy, fine. Tell the client when they walk in instead of having them sit there waiting for no reason. It was clear to me that the stylist (La Kiesha) was not well-versed in Sisterlocks maintenance and I left feeling angry and frustrated. What a waste of time. Edited to add (in response to manager): I never spoke to anyone on the phone about the wash policy because I booked my appointment online. I never received a phone call after booking it, so whoever told you that they spoke to me on the phone is wrong. I was informed about the policy in the salon after waiting, as I stated in my review. I'm glad that the shampoo staff actually do separate the locs. I wish the stylist would have told me this when I expressed my concerns about it that day. read more

I had been in search of a loctician for months before I found Salih, courtesy of Yelp. Salih is extremely talented and it is very apparent he cares about his clients. As a previous yelper commented, the salon is professional and CLEAN. I am always seen at my appointment time and greeted with a smile. When it comes to styles, Salih can whip up a masterpiece with little direction. He uses high-quality products that keep my hair healthy and without build-up. Great job with my starter locs, locticians were very friendly but quite dismissive regarding my concerns with sensitive handling of my scalp due to having severe seborrheic dermatitis. Had asked the hair washer and loctitian about putting specific products on my scalp during and immediately after my wash, they did not want to hear what I had to say initially, and I was told that they knew what products were best for me. It was not until towards the end of my appointment that my concerns were being addressed. A $35 detangling fee was sprung up on me during my appointment. Also, appointment that was supposed to take 2-3 hours ended up taking over 5 hours. Update: I've had to go back and lower my initial rating considering I've reached out to the salon to discuss the problem area of changing the amount of time it takes to be charged a detangling fee, and have receiving no response back whatsoever. In person I was told the detangling fee was for taking longer than 10 minutes and a timer was set for 10 minutes. In a separate review the salon has said the fee is charged for taking longer than 20 minutes, yet on this review they state the fee is charged for taking over 15 minutes. It is not right or fair to change your rules in order to get more money from clients. I was not told what the amount of the fee was until after the timer had gone off and I was not asked about my preference on treatment towards my scalp condition. I had mentioned to my stylist my concerns and scalp condition and her dismissive response was "I am going to use whatever is best for you," before ignoring everything that I had asked of her. I had mentioned on two separate occasions that my scalp was drying up and I need to moisturize it and was dismissed each time until towards the end of my appointment when she finally went to get a heated oil. By this point, my scalp had gotten so dry that I had already reached into my own purse to put oils on my problem areas because timing is an important factor with my condition. My appointment had taken over 5 hours, not because of the wash and detangle, but because my stylist had spent a ridiculous amount of time on her cell phone. This was unacceptable and even went on to veer into the time slot of the next appointment. I would highly reccommend N Natural Hair Studio to anyone who has sensitive scalp concerns or scalp conditions as they are very familiar with different scalp sensitivities, have no problem making accommodations, and are very upfront about their pricing system. read more

Absolutely loved my experience. I was greeted by a very warm and friendly shampoo guy who put me in a smock, so different from the traditional cape before washing my hair. Salih did my hair. He too was very warm, friendly, and professional. I got loc maintenance and a pin up. Loved it and have been getting lots of compliments. Yesterday I visited Loc Love Styles by Salih and I was very impressed. The salon was very professional, clean and inviting. Salih's assistant was friendly and gave me a very good wash while explaining the process every step of the way. There was no wait time straight from the bowl in to Salih's chair. I started my locs about 9 months ago and for nine months my previous stylist was not able to give me any versatility. In just one visit Salih totally has my locs looking the best they have looked. I was not disappointed from the scheduling of the appointment... To the final style... I had the best shampoo ... I've had in a year... Omg... Billy is awesome... I didn't want to get up... He explained what he was applying to my Locs without asking... Very impressed... I was escorted to the styling area... Zee did my loc maintenance... I'm so impressed... Very professional but social environment... This is what I consider top shelf... You can't go wrong with anyone in the Salon... In regards to styling... The atmosphere was welcoming as this was my first time ... I called 1 hour prior and lucky to get in... I didn't have to sit under the dryer for 2 hours... I was dry within 20 minutes... Went in for a trim. The shop itself was lovely, but Demetrius was very rough in his cutting manner. He was rough in handling the blades, and a bit careless when it came to nicking my ears. I think he was trying to be quick, but ended up being a bit painful. Also he didn't know how to cut my hair (simple short natural style) - the owner had to jump in and show him a photo on his phone of what I wanted. This was AFTER I showed him photos of myself with my hair after a fresh cut! I was fine with the results, but won't be returning. However, the prices were great, staff was amazingly nice, aesthetics were pleasing. Other customers in the shop were getting their locs twisted, and all seemed happy as well. read more

New to the DMV area, hard to find a place to entrust your head to, so decided to go to this place based on the reviews, and they sure did not exaggerate. I Loved it, from beginning to end. I shall refer to my shampoo artist as Mr. Personnality, Southern boy with the touch and the fun, very professional and entertaining. He Made me laugh while educating and putting me to sleep with his head massage. Pierre my loctician was knowledgeable, fast and calm. Loved the result, I purchase the oil which I am enjoying. Great salon tucked away right at the Silver Spring and DC border a few blocks from the Silver Spring Metro stop. Seems to be spirited and appears upper crust which is a refreshing change from many of the haphazard accidents people are calling a salon in this region. Salons I have come across do not compare this one. Excellent smells from their homegrown fragrances to the hair elixirs and a wonderful ambiance and feel to the salon. So, I live in boston but was spending the summer in DC and was desperately in need of a loctician to keep myself looking as professional as possible. First stop on the search - Yelp. I saw the listing for Loc Lov and the over 20 five-star ratings and figured it must have been a hoax. I tried another place, which for now will remain anonymous, and was thoroughly disappointed with the result each time. I gave in and came to Salih. Turns out - the reviews aren't fake :S. After spending the entire summer here in DC experimenting with different stylists, I'm kicking myself for not coming straight to Salih at Loc Lov. My hair looks fantastic and my scalp feels brand new. Very rarely do I style my locs because I am so picky - Salih styled it .....I love it...and best yet - it's not tight and there isn't a pin anywhere. I'm honestly very happy I decided to go in - I've found a DC loctician. I'm tempted to give 5 stars ..but I won't - for two reasons. 1) Someone else reading this might also assume this review is fake 2) I'm a grad student on a tight budget and my loc maintenance was a little pricier than I'm accustomed to (of course that could be because I actually got it styled)...either way it was still worth every penny. Loc Love is a house that has been converted into a salon. The waiting room (has tea, water and wifi password) and shampoo station is upstairs. Downstairs is 2 barber stations and the salon in the back The area is in a 2 hour zone street parking. If you don't want to search for a parking spot or have to move your car every 2 hrs the 90 bus stops in front of the shop. They provide loc service, color, repair dreads, barber service, etc. The shop sells head wraps, oils (for hair and beards) jewelry and other items. Nice unique designed interior, eclectic style and taste. Music plays through out shop but no specific track. My personal experience 1st appointment: Waited 3 weeks to make a consult appointment with Rasha. Based off the reviews she seemed like the best but was hard to book with. Arrived at my consult scheduled at 8am and wasn't seen until 9am. The person who did my consult was a man. He stated that the time on the website was wrong and that Rasha was not able to do my appointment. For those reasons he compensated amount for the consult. I discussed with him what I wanted done thinking he would relay the information to the stylist and barber. Was quote a price for locs and haircut since I wasn't getting "a whole head of locs" I would pay $85 to start them and not $160. I was told $30 for my haircut and I wouldn't have to pay extra for the design. Made my $60 down payment and appointment with the receptionist for starter locs with Rasha and haircut with Wade. Would be able to get my hair done for another 3 weeks. Day before appointment: Rasha calls to tell me she doesn't start locs and that my loctition has been changed. I have been waiting for almost 2 months to get my hair done and it was last minute I took the day off from work to accommodate for this appointment. 2nd appointment: When I sat in the chair The loctition did not know what I wanted and Doesn't really know much about the texture of my hair. I have very thick hair but a lot of it was combed out (trying to detangle my ends) after getting my hair washed up stairs. The information that was discussed in the consult was not relayed to the loctition nor the barber. Wade the barber did a great job on my hair cut took the time to cut my hair and fine a design. I got lots of complements on the design he did. My twist came out in three days when I left the shop I had a lot of knotted dead hair at the ends (Loc Lov starts locks with two stranded twist). I was also charged way more than what I was told at my consult. Customer Service: After speaking with the manager she took the time to trouble shoot some of the dilemmas that occurred. She explained the mishap and refunded me the cost of the Starter Locs (surprised me). I appreciated the time she took to see if I could come back in to and have an appointment with Rasha. I appreciate one of the loctitionist rushing Wade to finish cutting my hair by constantly reminding him that his other appointment was waiting. I would recommend this shop to anyone that has already started locs and Definitely would recommend that barber service. They now have to barbers and their work looks good. I noticed that it does take awhile to pay at the end. I don't know if I would come back again for hair unless it is for barber service or to get it colored. I have read a lot of reviews and seen some of the people who have gotten their hair colored at this shop. read more

I had my hair done two or three times a long time ago, when Salih first came into town from Philly. I still think about this place and the style they gave me! Alas, the shop is a bit out of the way and price range for me, though the service and knowledge is worth the price and priced fairly. The Loc Lov brand is growing in impressive ways, with products, expos, events, web presence, and so on, in addition to simply being a group of people who know what they're talking about.
