I cut off my hair about 2 weeks ago at home with scissors and I scheduled an appointment to just have everything cleaned up and looking good. If you take public transportation, its very easy to locate. I took the metro to the Eastern Market stop and walked about 15ish minutes down 8th until I got to the shop. I noticed a bus stop very close by, if you prefer to take the bus. When I stepped inside, I was welcomed by the receptionist. She was very sweet. She led me upstairs to the waiting room. I was 5 minutes early to my appointment and everything flowed right on time. Wade is the barber who cut my hair and he did a fabulous job!! He washed my hair was well and whoooo chile when I tell you I almost fell asleep in that chair. He told me to relax and I definitely did. When it came time to cut my hair, I told him to do what he though would look best. He did an amazing job and I'm planning going back! The staff was soooo cool and there was great conversation. The ladies maintaining locs seemed quick and detailed. Every person that left had beautiful parts and great looks hair. I highly recommend Loc Lov. If you're getting a haircut, ask for Wade. It is difficult to give a less than perfect review to this salon because there is so much to LOVE. But a little constructive criticism never hurt anyone. Read the other Yelp reviews for all the great things, they are true. On to areas that could use improvement: 1. The waiting area needs to be more comfortable. Service consistently runs about 30 minutes behind schedule. When you have people waiting that long to be seen, there needs to be a TV or something. The free wifi is slow. 2. Be on time! Many times, I have seen locticians arrive late to appointments. If customers can be penalized for showing up late or cancelling, then the professionals need to offer compensation for their tardiness. When you book with a specific stylist, you want THAT person, not a stand in. 3. Watch your mouth! I have heard conversations about sex, partying, drinking, etc. while kids were present. It's ok to have fun, but the dirty talk needs to be discreet. 4. ALL PRICES NEED TO BE LISTED IN THE SHOP. Nobody wants to find out about surprise fees for repairs etc. when they are already budgeting $110 plus tip. 5. I shouldn't smell weed on your clothes or wafting up from the basement. Burn some incense. 6. GET NEW CHAIRS. The red ones are hella uncomfortable & feel lopsided. You've got people sitting for 2-3 hours. C'mon. 7. Remember the customer experience. You charge more than most places. White hair salons treat customers to wine & light snacks. You order food in front of clients without offering them a bottle of water. Salih as a loc stylist is great. I came to him after unsatisfactory service from a stylist in Maryland. He not only sat and talked with me about my hair but listened to my likes and dislikes about my experiences in other salons. He fixed my locs, gives me great styles and gets me in and out in about 2 1/2 hours! He takes pride in his work and tries very hard to appeal to his customer base. Everyone there so far has been very nice and courteous. Believe me, if it was any less than from the first visit, I would have not gone back. The shop is small, but personally, I like it that way. It makes me feel like I am his only client and I get that one on one attention while I am there. Instead of sitting in a salon where the stylist is overbooked and you get mediocore service. I love his online scheduling service...no more calling and finding out when you can get "squeezed in." When you schedule with his service on-line you know right then and there what time is available and he gives you a nice list of options for the services that you may want. this review is my opinion; however, i will state facts. i have been on my loc journey for 4 years now. In that time i have had 3 different stylists for many different reasons, Eiverything from scheduling, to prices, to CUSTOMER SERVICE. All 3 stylists/loctitians had been referred, but all dissapointing the same. FAST FORWARD to Mr. Salih of LOCLOV. Now this is what i call TOP NOTCH service! i was greeted by name and met at the door! This has never happened before! I'm used to being reffered to as my appt time; not my name. After sitting for only a few minutes i was promptly escorted to the shampoo room (which is a ROOM and not an open area stationed in the actual work area). The greatest wash i ever had. The assistant was knowledgable of the products and even lended ear to my woes of horrible experiences past. After my shampoo it was now time to seat in the coveted seat of Mr. Salih Watts. The shop was clean, COOL (temp), and inviting. with music playing in the background, conversations low and intimate between customers, i felt this may be a positive experience. i was finally seated, asked if i wanted water for maybe the third time (again this had never happened before. I always had to bring my own) and we were ready to began. As previosly stated, Salih is truly a MASTER LOCTICIAN! He was attentive to my worries, asked questions about previous care, and his suggestions were just that (not his way of detouring me from what i actually wanted). And as for speed, we were done before i had a chance to get tired of sitting in the chair, but i think the flow of wonderful conversation may have helped to pass time. His VISION is amazing. NOT EVERYONE is the same! Salih shows this as his work is different from any i've seen before. EXPEDITIOUS yet EFFICIENT. And when it came to styling i think Salih kept this in mind. It would almost seem as though he customizes his work purposely to fit you! I cant say enough about this place. My hair means a great deal to me. more importantly the staff and facility made me feel as though MY hair, was a great deal to them also!!! I met Salih at the end of August 2012 after numerous recommendations. I kept getting referrals about him from different people, so I set up an appt for a consultation. He was extremely professional and prompt. I was blown away by the ambiance of the salon. It is fabulous! Very clean and relaxing. Salih is my hair stylist now, I am working on my 6th visit and must say, each one is an experience. The staff is so warm and the conversation is always good! I went in 2 weeks ago for a full color and style w/Rasha. It was my first time at the salon and I was not disappointed.The staff was friendly and attentive. Anthony was nice and upbeat and I sensed that he enjoyed his job. The shampoo, I probably had about 3 because of my color, was amazing! Anthony took his time with my shampoo as it didn't feel rushed and 2 weeks later it hasn't begun to itch. (That reminds me I need to call to find out what shampoo he used. He probably told me but I was to into the best shampoo I've had in years). A day prior, Rasha and I met to talk about what I wanted so on my appt. day we quickly went over the plans, and got started. She did an amazing job! I got 2 colors; dark brown in the back and red in the front. She also makes really cute loc jewelry that'll give your locs that extra "oomph". The Service here is beyond professional. Salih is exactly what his card say he is ; a Master Loctician. He was very disappointed in my previous maintenance of mg Los mainly because of the products my former stylist used. Which was partially my fault because I allowed it. Salih uses natural products that smell amazing and are a WONDER for Locs. I LOVED my experience. I LOVED Salih and Billy. My son and my husband enjoyed them also and if you have children and a husband you understand how their experience can make or break you going back again. After a major chop Salih did his thing. He suggested a reconstruction treatment one which I will be getting at my next appointment. If you are looking for someone near, reliable, unique, and genuinely concerned about your hair not just a dollar I highly highly recommend Salih to those of us who have embraced the natural process. He is very knowledgable and did u mention I LOCE my style which took NO time. He was easy to talk to he listened and he gave great things to do at home just in case I can't afford him next month. I always come here for Loc Maintenance and I am always happy with the results. I don't like a lot of different people doing my hair (my schedule doesn't always allow for the same person), but everyone who has done my hair so far has been excellent, caring and informative on how to maintain healthy locs. Rosha and Chiquita were the last to cut style and twist and both have specialities in color. No one ever tries to sell me things or treatments I don't need and prices are reasonable. I've been going to Loc Lov for loc maintenance for almost two years now and have just returned home after my most recent visit. With this visit, as with every visit to Loc Lov that I've had since I began going there, I left the salon feeling happy, blessed and beautiful. Just before I found Loc Lov I was about to chop off my locs. Post-pregnancy/breastfeeding hormones had left my locs in a terrible state (weak, dull and breaking) and I was frustrated with the low level of professionalism at the loc salons I frequented. Everything about that first visit made me want to keep my locs and to return to the salon. When I walked into the salon, I was impressed with how clean and modern it was. I was welcomed with smiles and assisted right away. Then I got treated to the best hair wash I'd ever had -- over thirty minutes of cleansing, moisturizing and massaging by Billy. After that both Salih (loctician and salon owner) and Zee (loctitian and herbalist) helped repair, twist and style my hair. They were both fantastic. First, they pursue their profession with excellence. The hair care, the styling and the advice on how to strengthen and nourish my hair naturally were all of the highest caliber. Second, they are also just great people, and given how long a loc maintenance appointment takes, it's really wonderful to have the people doing your hair be smart, affirming, inspiring, fun people who want to be positive influences in their community. Almost two years since my first visit, my locs are healthier and longer than ever. Today it was Anthony who greeted me with a smile and gave my hair a fabulous half-hour cleanse, and Zee who meticulously maintained my locs and swept them up into a gorgeous do in her typical calm and reassuring manner. I am new to locs. I just had them installed a little over 2 months ago. I wasn't impressed by the way that they looked. I went to a different shop for my first maintenance. Although i had a scheduled appointment, it took me 3 hours just to get in the chair. Unacceptable! I decided to give loc lov a try and it was the best decision i have ever made. Billy greeted me as soon as i walked in. I knew from looking at the loc lov website that my locs were not installed properly so i was not surprised when Billy educated me on locs and told me that mine were done incorrectly. I was unhappy but i went home and combed out my locs and was ready for a fresh start. My second visit, i was greeted by Anthony. He is such a nut...in a good way! He has a wonderful sense of humor as does Billy. He has amazing hands as i received the best wash ever. He educated me thru the entire process. Rasha restarted my locs and my twist are beautiful. I can't wait for the finished product. Rasha was very timely. I was told that it takes 3 hours to start locs. From the time i walked in the door until the time i left, it was 3 hours and 10 minutes! That is awesome! The salon is warm and inviting...nice music...no excessive gossip about who slept with who the night before...etc. it was just a great experience and i will most certainly be back in three weeks for Anthony to wash my hair and for Rasha to do my maintenance. Hopefully i will get to meet Silah that everyone seems to speak highly of and Zeenat who whips up all those great products!! read more

I did not enjoy my experience at Salih's salon. Its very difficult to find a natural hair salon in DC that doesn't serve up attitude along with your style, and unfortunately Salih's salon serves up attitude. He will talk on the phone or stop doing your hair to talk to another person during your appointment. My pet peeve is having my time used up, I believe if I am paying to have my hair done the focus should be on the client until my hair is styled and dry. I also didn't like the way he twisted my hair it wasn't as clean (ie all my little hairs were out ). Overal poor unprofessional service. I will keep looking for a better stylist. I was visiting the area from Seattle last week and needed my locs tightened. I made an appointment a week before, the day of I was driving in from another city and noted I was going to be late they were better than courteous, I was 30 minutes late but Billy and Pierre took great care of me. Billy handled my shampoo and I have got to say that before this shampoo, I had never experienced anything like it, he explained the technique and its benefits. Pierre styled my locs and Billy finished pulling them together, I got a ton of complements at the wedding the best being how clean and polished they looked. I really enjoyed my experience at Loc Lov Styles. I've had my hair done at a salon only a hand full of times, and this is by far the nicest natural hair care salon, I've ever been to. It is a barber shop also, but everyone there is very professional. I was greeted with a friendly welcome as soon as I walked in. Billy shampooed me, and he was professional and very amiable. I liked the fact that they shampooed me as soon as I walked in. I didn't have to sit around and wait at all. Shortly after my shampoo began, it started pouring down raining. Since they knew I had parked at one of the meter spaces, they asked if I would like someone to feed my meter and then Salih suggested that one of the guys just move it for me to the parking lot behind the salon so I wouldn't have worrying about paying or walking in the rain. So, Charles, who was also very professional and attentive, moved my car for me. After my shampoo and steam, Salih started re-twisting and styling me immediately...again, no waiting (unlike what I've experienced in other shops). Salih was very knowledgeable. He's very funny. I laughed a lot. His sister, Zee is really cool, too. He reinforced a couple of my locs around my hair line that had thinned after I had my children. He styled my hair into a beautiful mohawk, which was impressive because I have a lot of hair. Needless to say, It was pretty big and pretty extreme (especially for my profession), but I had always wanted to try one, so I figured since I rarely get my hair done is a salon, I'd go all out. I was very happy I did. I've gotten lots of compliments in the past four days and several people have asked for contact information for the shop. One guy stopped me and complimented me on my hair and asked if I could give him the contact info for the shop, which was strange because he was bald. Lol! But maybe he wanted it for his spouse or someone. Who knows. Anyway, I highly recommend this shop and will definitely be going back. Oh!!!...and one final thing... +1 on the online scheduling that the other reviewer mentioned. I totally loved that. I'm a techy and love all things digital. If I can schedule on line and not have to pick up a phone, it's very likely that you could make me a customer for life. ;-). read more

I've been going to Salih to service my locs about 6 months and not once have I had a bad experience. I LOVE getting my hair done with Salih. He is courteous, knowledgeable, and most of all professional. He doesn't sugar-coat anything, and that may be why the disgruntled reviewer felt he was being "disrespected". However I appreciate that Salih values his other clients' time because I would not have wanted to come to my appointment and sit an extra hour because the person before me was not ready to commit. When you set an appointment with Salih, that time in his chair is your time and it's all about you. This is why I continue and will continue to book with Salih. read more

If you are looking for a natural hair care salon where you can relax and be worry free; then this is a place worth looking into. I've had my locs for nine years now and I pride myself with handling my own maintenance and always receiving such amazing compliments for my handiwork, but now the length; which is below my waist ( I stand 5'3), has become too much for me to want to tackle. With that being said, I have never felt comfortable with visiting a shop without personal references or recommendations, but the website for this salon grabbed me. The gallery was very well put together. The hairstyles portrayed were of all great quality. Many places do not put as much pride or effort into their brand. The hairstyles are well thought out. The prices are high-average. I have paid more for lesser quality and I have paid less for the same quality. I am two days removed from my appointment and I am happy with the results. I will definitely consider re-visiting Millennium Salon. That is a huge statement coming from the gal that has been to the same person once in all of my nine years. read more

My first experience with Loc Lov was seeing some really good reviews on-line. I've been wanting to loc my hair for years so I made a consultation appointment for 10:am on a Saturday morning. I arrived early and was told that the stylist would be right out. I waited and waited and waited. A young man kept coming to the waiting room saying, "she'll be right out" but the stylist never showed up. After an hour and a half wait I got up to leave. As I was walking to my car, the stylist came running out the back door and asked, "did you still want to get your hair done." I was so upset but I thought that since I had waited so long I might as well do the consultation and make an appointment. I walked back to the porch of the building (it's an old renovated house) and she did the consultation on the back porch. Basically, she looked at my hair and said she could loc it for me. I told her that I couldn't wait because I work on the weekends and that I have to have her earliest appointment. She assured me that I would be first in line. So I made an appointment and gave her a $50 dollar deposit. On the day of the appointment I arrived on time. I sat in the waiting room and thought that she would be out to get me in 10 minutes or so. However, that didn't happen. I waited, and waited and waited. As the minutes are going by the barber who was cutting men's hair noticed that I was getting angry and impatient. I'm pretty sure he went into the room where the sytlist's were doing the locs and told her (if she was actually there) that I was getting impatient. Again, the young man came out to say that she would be right out. I waited some more. I waited an hour and a half and Zee, my stylist, never came out to acknowledge me. She never came to say "hello" or "I'm running a little late, I'll be with you soon," or "thank you for coming back." She completely ignored me. No customer service whatsoever. After waiting an hour and half I got up and left. As I was walking across the street to my car, the young man comes running out the door and said, "we're ready for you now." I told him never mind, I have to go to work and I left. I didn't ask for my deposit back so I'm out $50 for nothing. I would not recommend this salon or this stylist. It's a beautiful establishment but the customer service and wait time are completely unacceptable. What I find most interesting is that they make a big deal of having you come in to have a hair consultation but when it's time for them to do the actual work you're made to wait and you're treated like a third class citizen. It's like they're doing you a favor to do your hair. I made an appointment with Urban Natural on Bonifant Street a week later and was able to get my hair done nicely and on time. read more

My first visit for a consultation, this salon has a great atmosphere, and you are greeted with a smile and wonderful attitude from the receptionist ( Kirby ). Had to wait maybe 20 minutes, past the appointment time ( was on a time frame ). If I wasn't in a rush, I wouldn't have mind. My appointment was with Jocelyn, this young lady is the sweetest, personable young lady. I asked her quite a few questions, she had patience, no attitude, a smile on her face, and didn't mind if I had more. I ask a lot of questions lol.....and she assured me when I return, she would answer any other questions I had. Overall the experience was lovely despite me waiting a little over my appointment time. I been looking for a new loctician for forever. I went to Salih for the first time two weeks ago based on his Yelp reviews. And I tell you, he's wonderful, basically. I was his first client of the day, but I did have to wait a while. Because he was running late, but I didn't hold it against him because of the circumstances, plus he gave me a free style to make up for it. And I really appreciated that because he's a little more expensive than what I'm used to. But he's starting this student discount thing, so that'll help. He recently moved out of a salon and into a barbershop. I had no problem with this though since I actually preferred not being in a salon setting. The place was nice and clean and he let me control the TV. Which I loved. I hate going to salons and they're watching Wendy Williams or cooking shows. The whole process went relatively quickly. Quicker than what I'm used to. He didn't use clips and he was using natural products as far as I could see. I had a simple style, but I still got numerous compliments on my hair, which is always nice. And my hair still looks good, two weeks later, which is new for me. Anyway, I just really enjoyed my experience and my hair. I will be returning. read more
