Do not recommend this salon for multiple reasons: 1) they are flat out not competent at color or haircuts (see photos). For those of you who prefer to be styled like a wild tiger (stripes and crooked hair), this place is for you. 2) they push their wannabe ouai (same pronunciation but different product) brand on you to buy for outrageous prices. I need a hair cut, not a Sephora ad in my face. 3) the prices are not commensurate with their skills or products and the customer service is tone deaf e.g., why would I want to let them "fix" my hair when they were the one who created the problem? Unfortunately they refused to give me any refund (aside from the money back they charged me for time not spent) and my chase sapphire credit card was no help to recoup any of the costs. I had to shell out an additional $300 to remedy the unfortunate hair situation they created. Save your money and go somewhere with stylists who know what they're doing. read more

He asked great questions about my typical haircare routine, the look and feel of what I was hoping for, and even offered a scalp and shoulder massage. You can't find very explicit pricing details on their website, but they do hourly rates, at $80, $100, or $120 per hour, based on the stylist's tier. As a new customer, you do get $20 off your first visit, which helps. COVID-safety-wise, they require all clients to provide proof of vaccination. Everyone was wearing masks, and the locale was very spacious, so I felt well at ease throughout my whole stay. read more

I've never been so pleased with a salon experience in my life. Everyone at Atlas is so kind and the treatment I received was beyond compare. Claire really listened to all of my concerns and throughout our visit she explained what my hair needed and how to best take care of it. She answered all of my many questions and made great product recommendations. We began with a neck and shoulder massage with aromatherapy that really grounded me and then she very caringly washed my hair, even wiping my ears each time the water ran over them. The best part is that I didn't even have my typical reaction at the end of the haircut, which normally is a mix of slight disappointment and the need to remind myself it will look better in a couple of weeks. I walked out feeling amazing and I'm so grateful I finally have a salon and stylist that I love. They increased their prices 65% (!!) it's now $100 plus tip for a short men's haircut. A month ago I paid $60 for the same service - that's some inflation. They also switched to a "per hour" pricing, which encourages the stylist to go slow and the customer to feel rushed and not want to ask for anything extra that might take more time. Really sad because I love Abby and I like the salon a lot but I won't patronize a business that extorts customers like that. Update: Interesting response from them below trying to justify almost doubling the price for the same service Actually other businesses in this situation would usually grandfather in existing customers and apply to new structure to new folks. As for the timing, my appointment started late (it almost always does, so if you get a cut here don't make any plans for after) and I was rushed out the door to make room for the next one, so it is not helping improve scheduling at all. Btw, I want to make sure she doesn't get in trouble or blamed for this review so let me say Abigail explained the new prices very clearly but that does not make it justified. I'd would be very curious to know how much of that $100 gets to Abby who's actually doing the work vs in your pocket. I'm sure you will find plenty of more lucrative customers willing to pay these prices but no man is going to pay $100 + tip for a haircut. You must be kidding yourself. read more

Being new to the area I needed to find a hair salon closer to me. I gave this salón a try considering the reviews. I was disappointed in my visit. Firstly when I arrived I didn't feel welcomed as I was not greeted - when I was finally greeted it was not friendly. Seemed I was more of a bother than a customer. I decided to ignore it and move forward with my stylists. Once my service began I got a lot of shaming from the stylist. They were talking about how bad of a job my previous hair stylist had done ( granted I was going to the best in Georgetown) so that rubbed me the wrong way. The whole time I was there there was no music, the environment didn't feel warming or welcoming and I wasn't even offered a drink. I want to support my local small businesses but have a hard time when the service just isn't there. I have not gone back nor will I since I pay a bit less and continue to go to another place. read more

I was very disappointed by my latest experience with this place. I first came here about 2 months ago for color and booked another visit with that colorist for this Friday, in preparation for my wedding in January. I get a voicemail this Tuesday saying that the colorist's schedule has changed and my appointment needs to be rescheduled. I call back today to find out that the colorist's schedule has changed back at the end of October, but for whatever reason I wasn't notified until the week of my appointment. There was no explanation of how this happened or any real attempt made to fix this error. I was told that I can have my coloring session split between 2 people for this Friday and when I said I can be added to the schedule and if anything comes up I can let them know, I was told to call back after I check my schedule. It didn't seem like the salon cared much about making sure I have my appointment and I don't recommend coming here. read more

Very bad experiences with whoever answer the phone and the owner. They push you to make an appt after your service for 3 months out and charge you a fee if you don't show. I don't think I ever agreed to this appt. who could honestly know their schedule 3 months in advance? Ok, your system sends people an email to their junk folder for 'reminder'. What's the point of email reminder if it doesn't get to people? Explaining to them, and they are really not understanding, which leaves such a bad taste. I was going back for more service but I don't think I could knowing how annoying they are. Way to burn bridges with your customers. read more

This five-star review is, of course, for the salon as a whole because everyone was so great. BUT this is a special shoutout to the artist that is STEPHANIE. She is *the* woman to go to. She is the whole package: professional, artistic, sincere, and she takes the time to hear how you feel about your hair and what you want to be done. Plus, me being a newby, she explained every step of the dyeing and styling process to me. First, let me say I came all the way down to NE (I live in NW) just because I heard this salon was great from a friend. It was worth it. I honestly have no words for Stephanie's work and professionalism. I have never dyed my hair before, and after two years of terrible short hair cuts gone Willy Wonka wrong, I was desperate to get my hair shaped but not take off the length. I put a product on my face over the summer that, unbeknownst to my virgin hair or myself, would dye the front part of my natural brunette hair orange. Stephanie met me in the front and took (a lot of) time to discuss my wants, my particular problems, and my fears with dyeing my hair back to my natural color (mostly, a fear of not being able to match my natural color; being in law school, I really don't have the time or money to take care of a change from my natural color). Stephanie took everything I said seriously and took note of the style I wanted and perfectly manifested it. She taught me how to take care of and style my hair as I am super low maintenance and do not have the time. I felt so relaxed in her hands and I've never been happier with a cut (and now my first dye) in my life! I honestly cannot say enough good things about this salon. Besides it being locally owned and much more affordable than most salons of its caliber, it's just a lovely experience from start to finish. Claire was extremely thoughtful and discussed what I wanted very thoroughly before we even started. The color is beautiful and she took a lot of the bulk out of my hair without losing its texture. The little touches throughout, like the fresh individual French press coffee and hand massage during the shampoo don't go unnoticed and makes you feel very pampered. I am so excited to finally have a decent salon near H street! Atlas Salon opened in November. It's an Aveda salon, super friendly and neighborhood oriented (owner has lived at 12th and D since 2004). They gave me a great cut, and a head and hand massage, all while the least annoying mini chihuahua ever (named Boo) sat on my lap and got pets. It doesn't smell like chemicals at all (which I care about since I'm pregnant) and they offered me chocolate (which I also care about because I'm pregnant). Not pushy at all about products and, at least right now, it's really easy to get an appointment, even on a Saturday morning or weekday evening. I had an appointment with Stephanie, who was approachable and professional at the same time. The other stylists, Mark and Claire, made a point to introduce themselves and chat. Turns out Claire has been doing my friend/neighbor's hair for years already! As a new client they gave me $20 off my first service (not sure how long that promo will last), but even without it I'll be back. read more

I got paired with Angela (I am so so sorry if that inst her name, the appointment booking just says AZ) and she brought my hair back to life! Claire has been my stylist for almost 8 years now. I found her after I moved to DC and called the Aveda salon she worked at the time and I asked the receptionist: "who would you have if you were me?" Without skipping a beat, she replied "Claire". It was a match from the first visit. Claire is a hair savant and is always great with advice without being pushy. She's also a great conversationalist, talk to her about movies and tv shows and she's usually caught up with the latest and greatest. Atlas Salon is Claire's baby and she's treating it as such. The staff are friendly, warm and professionally. The salon is beautiful and unique. It's not sterile like a lot of beauty salons. It fits this neighborhood perfectly. I have been growing my hair to donate for the last 8 months or so and needed to find a new stylist that would be easy to get to from work and home - searched on yelp and read lots of reviews. I came upon Atlas Salon and thought I would give it a try! So glad I did. This Aveda salon is lovey! Stylish, sleek, clean, and comfy, it's location near the corner of H Street and 11th Street NE is easy to find and allows for street parking. Claire, Stephanie, Mark, and Sydney were all really helpful and welcoming! Pressed coffee, tea, or water were offered as soon as I came in and the music playing was great. I selected Stephanie as my stylist based on some other yelp reviews. My color and cut were beautiful and I have made a follow-up appt with Stephanie! I also watched Claire take care of two other customers who also looked great as they left the salon! Atlas is the salon that I have been looking for in DC. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, right from the start. No pretentious vibes, which is hard to find in DC. The space is really cool, an open industrial space right off of H St. The online booking process was super easy. I was lucky to book an appointment with Claire. I got a haircut here about two weeks ago and it was nothing like the one I asked for. I asked for a textured bob shoulder length but instead i have more at the shortest layer than I do long which makes it look very mushroomy. I'm sorry to say it looks very old fashioned like I'm 60 when I'm decades younger. Not one person has complimented on it which tells me everything I need to know. I've been hiding it in a bun (because I can't make my hair cooperate)...and will have to wait 6 months until it grows out a bit. But damn, my hair was super long before I had it cut and now I wish I could go back in time and not go with this cut with someone I've never had before. I should have gone with their most booked stylist. Lesson learned! (I'm actively looking for someone to put in extensions...because I'm telling you the cut is really dreadful) read more

Tried this spot on the recommendation of a friend and will definitely be returning! I had a cut and style from Stephanie and she did a great job. I wasn't doing anything drastic -- just a trim and re-shape to get my hair looking healthy again. But I wound up with that "I love my hair, feeling bouncy and happy" post-salon feeling, which is priceless. I also really liked the vibe of the salon -- the service is attentive without feeling suffocating and the space is really relaxing. I like to keep the chitchat to a minimum and just let my stylist do their thing -- I appreciate the chance to zone out for a bit. I got on great with Stephanie without feeling pressured to talk through the appointment. I am not super knowledgeable on what haircut is best for my face shape/hair texture, but usually just know what length I want and Jake did a great job of shaping my hair to fit my needs and made it look great! I came to Atlas for the first time this summer- it was the safest place I've been in during quarantine. They take safety really seriously. My stylist (Sara) was incredible.
