We decided to try a new place to eat out, and we selected the local goat in Ootelwah, Tennessee. We were not quite sure what the type of menu that they had or what they served, but from the outside it looked inviting. The service was good, and the restaurant reminded me of a local dining establishment mixed with a sports bar since it had a large projection screen with ESPN playing. Food came out in a timely manner, and our server was very pleasant. The bathrooms were very clean. I ordered the fish and chips with the fish fried "hard". Side dish were hand cut fries. When the food arrived, the fish was warm, but the fries were just barely above room temperature. Also, the fries were not hand cut fries, but shoestring fries that were also very limp and greasy. Our other order for the table was Maui chicken. It was lightly seasoned and didn't live up to the name. It also came out warm and not as hot as we preferred. There seemed to be a lot of returning patrons that we overheard saying that the food was great. But our experience was slightly different. The service was great, food was decent, clean bathrooms, but wished the food was warmer when we got it. I didn't take any pictures other than the fish and chips. We didn't make any complaints when the Manager came around to see how things were or send any food back since we were short on time before a scheduled appointment. read more

Cesar Salad always Fresh with the best house made dressing with croutons. Can't go wrong with throwing a Salmon on top either!

Service is very good; charming staff. Ambiance is a sports bar with booths and a giant TV (10 - 15 ft diagonal) dominating the eating space. The Smoked shrimp and crab bisque was very good - I thoroughly enjoyed it. The grilled Ahi Tuna, described as "soy-ginger-pineapple glazed" with fried rice and steamed broccoli was bland and unremarkable. Broccoli was steamed and put on the plate - nothing added - just overcooked mushy veg; fried rice wasn't fried rice - it was boiled rice with a few pieces of canned veg in it and no salt or any spices or flavorings; the tuna that I ordered medium rare (slightly red in the middle) was seared 1-2 minutes max on each side (cold rare in the center) and the glaze was not a glaze - it was a thin watery, barely detectable flavor veneer that one would not notice if not informed that it was there. This was a completely bland entree. The online photo has it with spinach and mashed potatoes ... a little schizophrenic. Get a steak or a burger, they looked and smelled good - obviously what they want to serve and know how to cook, but not what I wanted. The fish seems to be an "Oh well, guess we need to have a fish offering". My thought is that the tuna is NOT what this restaurant wants to sell ( and has no idea how to prepare) and anyone ordering it is punished for not selecting something else. On the other hand, a burger with peanut butter and bananas doesn't seem too appealing either. However, despite the food, it *was* expensive. Really wanted to love this place. Descriptions sound amazing, but execution failed. Ordered a strawberry salad. Looked like a package of stale pre-packaged -- romaine, with wilted stalks, purple cabbage. Some of the strawberry slices were brown and not fresh. Dressing was super sweet, almost like a strawberry purée. Needed acid to balance it out. Candied pecans were tasty! Also ordered the fried green tomato appetizer. About 5 big slices of fried green tomatoes w/ caramelized onions, a little too much crumbled chees and a bacon relish jam. Very tasty! read more

I learned about this restaurant after my niece informed me she works there (at the one in Pigeon Forge, TN). Her inside info about how the food is prepared from scratch, really got me intrigued. I live in Chattanooga and I decided to try this local one in Ooltewah. I've been here twice now. I used to love Red Robin, but now I love Local Goat more for burgers and American food cravings. While sitting on his porch on two different occasions, my neighbor recommended eating at the Local Goat. He raved about the chicken tenders and the piles of fresh, hand-cut fries. So, as he is a discerning man, I took him up on his recommendation. Now, I don't have the heart to tell him how disappointed my wife and I were after eating there. We went to the Local Goat on a Wednesday. The restaurant was not crowded; so we were quickly seated at our table. The nearby bar was loud and lively, and on the opposite wall an immense screen showed two guys playing cards. The bright light of the server's entrance shown out across the room. Our waitress was prompt, friendly, and fairly efficient. My wife immediately ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes, which came out hot and quick. The goat cheese, bacon jam, and caramelized onions were overwhelming, but it was fair. I told the waitress that on a different night I might have appreciated them more. It was the first sign of bad things to come. Although my first thought was the appetizer tasted like something prepackaged at a local, big-box-store deli, I dismissed the idea as being overcritical. My wife ordered the Maui Chicken, and I ordered the Fish 'n Chips. My wife, bless her heart, is not the most critical person in the world. She rarely complains, and this night was no exception. However, I looked at the three, fried "cod logs" on my mound of old fries, and I knew I was done. After one bite of the fries, which were room temperature and matted together, I moved to the fish. It was hot, over-battered, and frankly tasteless. None of the salt mills worked; so there was zero relief from them. I asked the server to take it away, and I cut my losses. I am grateful that our waitress took it off the bill. After doing so, she tried to make excuses and apologized profusely. She said, "Our fries never sit around." If that is the case, I would hate to see ones that did. My wife ate her rubbery chicken and salad-bar-quality broccoli, and we hit the road. I can imagine owners who read this missive will say, "Jeez, what a [insert expletive here]!" However, the only way to save a restaurant from shutting down is to watch what goes out to the customer. Be honest with your observations, and although with enough beer some people will eat a deep-fried doorknob, many more will not. read more

My Daughter and son-in-law took me there for my birthday. They had never been to a Local Goat and I thought they'd enjoy it. The server wasn't as good as usual, we had to ask for appetizer plates, she forgot our drinks, but all in all everything was going fine. We ordered appetizers, burgers and drinks everything was good, about halfway through the meal I was picking at my fries AND FOUND A HAIR, and it wasn't mine! I called the server over who seemed not that concerned. Although she did make the right facial gestures. She asked if I wanted another meal, I told her just a new burger, NO fries and make it to go (we had all lost our appetites). she said a manager would be over to talk to us and left. 5 minutes passed and nothing. I ordered and ate my creme brulé. Still no manager, after about 10 minutes she brings the check, they deducted a little over 9.00 off the 129.00 bill, but no manager ever came, no real apology from any management staff. I have been going there since it opened, I go there with coworkers as well. I was pretty shocked by the lack of concern or well anything. I have never found a hair in my food in my life and I'm not sure exactly what could have fixed this but choosing to ignore us wasn't the way to go, so now I won't be back, nor will my coworkers. read more

I made a reservation at Local Goat for my husband and I for Thanksgiving. It was a 2pm reservation that I called to make sure they would be open. We are up grading our kitchen and I have not been able to use it. Since I wanted to make sure we had a nice Thanksgiving I called to make a reservation at Local Goat. So refreshing going to a nice restaurant that isn't a food chain there are only two of these but should be more. Wonderful atmosphere. Our waitress was very patient and polite as we looked over their large menu. Ready to be blown away? The local Goat is one of few who make their own recipes from scratch. We had house made not "frozen" onion rings paired with house made ranch jalapeño dip. It was out of this world with just the right amount of kick. They get it mostly right. I've been here a few times now and I love the idea that everything is local but the last couple times I visited there was part of my meal that just wasn't right. I got the salmon with the sautéed spinach and broccoli. Salmon was perfectly cooked (very small portion) but the spinach was insanely garlicky. So much so that I couldn't eat it. Last time I had the ahi and the pineapple salsa had big chunks and was more like a sweet and sour sauce that totally overpowered the dish. First time there, five of us. There is plenty of off street parking and have both inside and outside seating. They have a good size bar to sit in as well as a lot of booths and some tables. The menu has a good selection and from what the waitress (oh or is it wait person) told us is they make everything fresh on site, including the ketchup and salad dressings. They have a full bar and good selection of craft draught beer (+1). I was excited and since I did not know many of the beers on the list I asked if I could get a sample of one I was interested in. Yes you can for FIFTY CENTS!!!! WTF. I must admit the waitress was nice because when I said what and geezz she took it in stride. I will never understand why businesses nickel and dime you by doing stupid stuff like that. OK enough venting. Bottom line is the place is new, nice, neat, atmosphere is good and the food is very well prepared. Oh they give you string fries which are excellent. The waitress was really good and attentive. I would give it a 5 but the 50 cent thing just irritated me and I won't go back. Exterior of the restaurant is very impressive which led to high expectations inside. Decor was more like a high end cafeteria, cold and not unwelcoming but not where it could be. Some local art in the walls would be nice. Bar area is different, it is nice with a warm welcoming feel. Out door seating is available on a patio area which is where we would have sat had it not been 90 degrees with about 80 percent humidity. Parking is free and plentiful. Now to the good stuff. Staff was extremely friendly from the moment we walked through the door. Server was excellent. Always smiling and perfect timing on her visits. Pleasant with conversation, but not one of those who makes you feel like they want to sit down an talk to you until your food gets cold. She was perfect! I had the fish and chips and I would say they were above average in flavor, and WAY above average in portion size. You could easily split this plate with someone else. I don't think the pic does it justice in showing just how big these pieces of fish were. I think most people would have been completely satisfied (as was I over all) but I am a little more picky about my fish n chips. The batter was really crispy actually perfectly so, but the batter has a bit of a sour flavor maybe like butter milk, that was not bad at all, only unexpected. It also made it taste funny with ketchup but was fantastic with the tarter sauce. I think they needed a side of slaw to break up the heaviness of the oil in the fries and fish. Shoestring fries were spot on perfect as well. My brother had the chicken tenders and he loved them. Should you check them out? I say sure! Food is reasonable, $17 for that massive order of fish n chips, and it's better than most. Liven this place up and they will have a home run! read more

We were recommended here by the hotel behind the restaurant. They had a copy of their menu on hand and I decided I had to go there. I got the spicy pasta that has the shrimp and sausage in it. It was to die for and I regret not getting it the next day for lunch while we were still in town. My husband got the lamb burger which was delicious as well. I ordered a beer flight which was amazing and allowed me to try numerous local beers. Our server was Caroline, she recommended the pasta to me and was very attentive the entire time. Ever get stuck trying to find food late at night because you drove too long. Such is the case with local goat. Fortunately they were open late. Probably had the juiciest hamburger's that I've ever had in my entire life and they were huge. The burgers were very good the fries however were soggy and left a lot to be desired. If it wasn't for the high prices for the burgers I would probably give a higher rating, but I think $55 for 3 people for burgers with no alcohol plus tip is on the pricey side. read more
