It's rare that I give a restaurant 5 stars in my first visit, but scratch really hit It out of the park. A charming little building in Troy Hill that screams character welcomes you. Despite the fact that It was busy and the servers were clearly spread thin, everyone was so kind and hospitable. It felt like a true neighborhood vibe. All of the food tasted like home, homemade & with love. The trout was a nice ode to western Pennsylvania, clearly fresh & seasoned well. The chicken was excellent- reminded me of an elevated version of what my mom would make. The waiter was so kind to offer us the burger though it's not usually a weekend item, and It was next level. The cocktails were clearly crafted with care - highly recommend the Phipps Garden. Overall, my take away is that i can't wait to return.

We came here on a week night, and got seated within a few minutes. It looks really cute inside. Our company of four each ordered the chef's choice burger, and we all got something different. It was such a fun and creative idea! We just told the staff what we didn't like, and they surprised us with something yummy. Mine was basically a thanksgiving burger with mashed potatoes, gravy and crispy onions. Service was friendly and helpful. It did take a bit for the food to come, and to compensate they gave us each a fresh chocolate chip cookie! It was so yummy! In comparison, I liked it more than the apple rhubarb crisp we actually ordered. Can't wait to come try something else!

Nothing but great things to say. My only regret was taking this long to finally try this spot! Came for the insta promo for their trout sandwich. The menu was great. À la carte sides that sounded amazing. Instead of the carrots, I got the happy hour confit wings (half and half calabrain chili honey or old bay ranch rub). The fish sandwich was textural perfection (laurel hill trout filet stacked high, winter slaw, tartar, brioche). Perfectly cooked and stacked! Servers threw on complimentary chocolate chip cookies which was very nice... 2 girthy cookies that were especially memorable for its semi chunky salt on top before serving. The staff was super friendly. Had the vibe that this would be a pretentious fine dining experience but was way more casual and approachable than anticipated. Can't wait to come back and try more items!

Scratch & Co. is a local, neighborhood restaurant that serves daily dinner and Sunday brunch. Examples of menu items are quiche, shakshuka, confit wings, sandwiches, pasta, NY strip steak, apple crisp, cocktails, mocktails, wines, and beers. The restaurant sources its ingredients from local farms and their drinks from local breweries and distilleries. My husband and I ate one dinner here. We had made a reservation, although tables are often available for walk-ins. We parked our vehicle for free on the street. We arrived slightly early, but the host immediately greeted and seated us. Our waiter also provided prompt and courteous service. We were wearing casual clothes, and we fit in with the other customers who wore a mix of casual and upscale clothes. Here are my ratings for our foods: Focaccia - 4 stars - Several slices of warm focaccia were served with extra virgin olive oil and cabernet-sauvignon vinegar. Trout - 4 stars - The piece of trout was a good size, was cooked well, and was flavored nicely with butter, capers, lemon, and herbs. Meatloaf - 4 stars - A piece of meatloaf was served with mashed redskin potatoes, gravy, and crispy onions. Tetsukabuto Squash - 4 stars - Slices of squash were slightly burned. They were flavored with a unique combination of spicy banana peppers and some ricotta. Desire and Necessity Pie Duo - 3.5 stars - This dessert consisted of a rich chocolate chess pie (4.5 stars) and a vinegar pie (2.5 stars). Crushed, salty graham cracker was sprinkled on top. The total price was $106 plus tip. We used a coupon, gift card, and credit card in the InKind app to pay for it, although you could use just cash or a credit card. As we were leaving the restaurant, the host held the door for us and wished us a lovely evening. Event space is available to rent.

Scratch & Co. is a quaint little restaurant in Troy Hill close to the steepest hill in Pittsburgh. The owner of this restaurant was super accommodating for a large group, and he even was helpful in rescheduling after a very large snowstorm. Overall, the service was very good until the end when we were charged a large service fee and could not split our large group into individual checks. In their defense, I should have checked with the restaurant beforehand, but regardless, they were not very accommodating! Let's get to the food & drinks! This restaurant is known for their cocktails & they did not disappoint. I had this pear gin cocktail that was amazingly good! Their focaccia was to die for. Their bread had a different texture than the usual focaccia, but it was delicious. It was hard to determine my favorite dipping sauce because they all were so good! The foccacia came with whipped ricotta and Muhammara, which was incredible! For my dinner, I ordered their famous meatloaf. It was really delicious, but the meal came out lukewarm at best. Most of the meals at the table came out in this way. It was almost as though they didn't know how to accommodate a large group at once. Other people in my group tried the trout and steak and all the food got glowing reviews. For dessert, some of us had the mango gelato and others had the olive oil cake, which had concord grape jam on top. It was definitely an odd pairing. The Gelato was good but nothing special. Overall, this restaurant was pretty good. The service wasn't super great and some of the dishes were hit or miss. They change their menu seasonally, so I would be willing to come back and try the food again!

Absolutely lovely experience! Everything was at the perfect pace. The server was delightful and the food was delicious. We did not feel rushed at all and it was so nice to disappear from the world for a few hours in this cozy space. We tried many things from the menu, including the focaccia and buttermilk whipped ricotta, the Calabrian honey wings, and the meatloaf. For dessert, a Scratch Ice Cream Sundae. It was also a nice surprise to learn that they had Happy Hour cocktails until 7 pm on a Saturday! We enjoyed several. To top off the night, we each got a piece of apple cake for free. Our server explained they had extra tonight because of snow related reservation cancellations and they didn't want it to go to waste. This put our experience over the top. We can't wait to return!

I visited Scratch & Co. for a group event and had a marvelous time! It was a cozy, friendly, and delicious experience! The cocktails were on point, and watching them make two different cocktails at a time without missing a beat was fun. They had delicious focaccia and house made giardinera / pickles for us to snack They served our dinner family-style - butternut squash soup, meatloaf, chicken, cauliflower, carrots, and potatoes were all super tasty - impressive for a small restaurant with so many people in our party (about 30)!!! The staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming - we will be back!!!

11/22/2025 Ate list: Meatloaf - 10 Chocolate Chip Cookies w/ Ice Cream - 10 Olive Oil Cake - 8 From the reservation to when we left the restaurant - this was a five stars experience. My wife, while making the reservation, made note of her severe food allergies. When we arrived, we were handed a personalized menu that the chef had already reviewed and struck out the items and/or ingredients of dishes she'd be unable to have. Amazing. Needless to say, service was up to this standard and was truly wonderful. First - the meatloaf. It was quite literally perfect. It's the best meatloaf I've had and it was a dish where I didn't know that a meatloaf could taste that good. Extraordinary. Chocolate chip cookies with Millies Vanilla Ice Cream. Cookies were warm, ice cream was perfectly soft. Few things are better than that. Not trying to suck up - personally preferred my mother in law's Olive Oil cake. BUT one of the first times I've personally seen the dish on a menu. Was thoroughly impressed. Truly lives up to and deserves five stars. Hope to return soon.

A dimly lit, intimate restaurant that's perfect for a date night. Everyone on the floors fills the roll as bar tender, server, and host. It was neat watching the teamwork. We both ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly. Definitely one of the better steaks I've had in the city. For our sides we split the smashed potatoes, which I'm still dreaming about, and the carrots. I'd skip the carrots next time and try something else. Everything was so garlicy and I'm not mad about it!!

This place was SO good. Cute vibes, great service, and the food was top tier. Highly recommend saving room for dessert and getting the apple crisp!

Went for a brunch with a private party. The food was excellent as were the cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. With a larger party, the pacing of the food (small private buffet) was a bit behind because we all hit it at once, but after that things were smooth. The donuts and grits were my favorite!

Fantastic!!! I am so happy to have found and dined here! Such a cozy restaurant with seats right by the window making for a great evening. The food was wonderful. The service was amazing. Vibes were great! Started off with focaccia and whipped ricotta. Some of the lightest, airiest, delectable focaccia I've had. Ricotta was the chef's kiss. Cucumber salad was so flavorful and packed with texture variety! Minty, salty from pistachios, fresh, and delicious! I had the meatloaf for my entree, and it was the best meatloaf I've had. Thick, hearty, and seasoned to perfection. Best meatloaf in Pittsburgh! Fried onions on top... my mouth is watering for more. We split some asparagus, and it was loaded with dill and a touch of heat. Fantastic, shareable side dish! My wife got the fusilli, and the bites I had were excellent. A little jealous of her - I wanted this dish too! For dessert, the cookies come out freshly baked and warm. A touch of sea salt and some ice cream... what an epic bite! We also had the olive oil cake, which was very good. A little dense compared to other olive oil cakes, but it didn't lack any flavor. I loved the walnut and apricots. I also want to add everything tasted fresh and clean. We weren't disgustingly full after the meal, which I credit to their farm-to-table approach. We cannot wait to come back for more!!!

Great cozy atmosphere. They have seasonal cocktails that are unique and interesting (one had tahini foam, incredible), as well as a dealer's choice cocktail which is fun. Wine program could use a little work, but that's okay. The service is very attentive and pleasant! The food was fresh, unique, and has a focus on local ingredients. Our favorites were the wings, Campanelle (pictured), pickle plate, and Muhammara spread.

We sat outside, which was first come first serve. It took awhile for anyone to approach us but I was in the restaurant industry for some time so I surely realize it happens for many reasons ! My friend ordered two speciality drinks which we were then told they didn't have the ingredients to make those cocktails...Okay - it happens no problem . We then ordered food from the brunch menu ( also out of the first item we asked for , there are only about 6-7 items on that limited menu). We asked if the regular menu would be available that day and we were told "no not on Sunday's." We proceeded to order and consume the hot honey chicken and waffles( good but not much of a hot honey taste and be aware it's BONE IN chicken), French toast with berries ( delicious ), and the shrimp and grits (made to perfection). I ordered the Texas medicine beverage , which was exquisite! (Tequila cocktail, Pictured). We also had the Petal and Pearl , gin and procecco cocktail ,not pictured but very good as well. After we ate, we moved to the bar to grab one last beverage. Again, it took quite some time for someone to approach us, which was odd because many of the girls were making eye contact but walking by us. Finally a gentleman with curly hair came over to take our orders - thank you. We noticed people at the bar were eating wings and food that was not listed on the brunch menu. When I asked how they ordered that, they said the regular menu starts at 3 on Sundays! We were extremely disappointed our original server did not tell us this nor was enlightened that the menu was released at a later time on Sundays. Concerning. It was nice to sit on a roof top in Pittsburgh on a sunny day. They have the atmosphere done with perfection. The food seemed delectable and the beverages done with beautiful presentations. I really hope to give this place another chance and revise my review !

I've heard so many mixed things that I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed every aspect of my experience. It kind of has dive bar vibes but the food and drink options are definitely on the elevated side. They open at 4 on Sundays and I got there around 4:15. It was already pretty busy (and by the time I was leaving, every single table and bar stool were occupied). They have standard booth seats along the windows, hightop tables in the middle and bar seating along the bar that curves along the back of the restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar since I was by myself. I was promptly greeted by the bartender. They don't hand you copies of the menu, you have to scan the QR code to access. It is easy to read and follow with sections for drinks, specials (this time they were Wicked themed as a nod to the show at the Benedum) and a sushi section. I ordered the street corn dip. The chips were a bit overcooked and the dip was just OK. I thought it was pricey for what you got. The star of my meal, though, was the patty melt. It had the burger, a bacon jam, caramelized onions and was absolutely delicious! It was served with fries. I considered ordering sushi but wasn't sure what to expect. The patrons sitting on either side of my ordered rolls and they were a nice size and looked delicious, so that is something I would consider ordering in the future. It was a place I'll likely be back to because of the proximity to the theater (although their prices definitely reflect that). Just note how crowded it always is and give yourself plenty of time if you plan on heading here for dinner before the show.
