I'm writing this in hopes that they improve their menu because I think this place could be great. They have what they call a "green shakshouka" on the menu. Shakshouka is my favorite breakfast dish so I was super excited try it. I'm not sure if I should have asked the waitress to clarify what the construction of the dish was, but instead of eggs in sauce I was served eggs cooked into a giant pile of arugula. Not only was it less tasty than traditional shakshouka, it was also infuriating to eat because everything was stuck together. On top of that, the pile of greens was sitting in a broth that made everything soggy. Anytime I tried to cut into an egg, the yolk immediately seeped out and disappeared into the broth. I really wonder why they chose to put this on the menu instead of actually shakshouka. Or if this dish was the choice to be on the menu that it shouldn't be called shakshouka as it does not fit the definition of what that dish actually means. My other gripe would be the house made jam that was supposed to be blueberry but mostly tasted like cinnamon. The taste was also very heavily powdered cinnamon which also threw off the mouth feel of the jam as well, more akin to sawdust unfortunately. The decor is beautiful and we had good service (both the host staff and our waitress were awesome) but the food could be so much better. read more

We recently checked out this great new restaurant in Oakmont! The space is beautiful with pretty floral murals and fun decor. We each ordered a different drink from their bar menu and they all were delicious. I especially appreciated the creative mocktail options. To start, we had Grammy's Dill Dip which was a light, flavorful appetizer served with chips and fresh veggies. Three of us ordered the Parmesan Fried Chicken Salad, and it was very fresh with a generous portion size. Another person in our group had the Shotgun Burger and said it was juicy and delicious. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we finished with the delicious Bread Pudding for dessert. It was topped with creme and fresh blackberries. The service was great and the food and drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. I can't wait to come back and try their brunch! read more

Abode Kitchen & Bar is a new restaurant that serves dinner and weekend brunch. Examples of menu items are salads, oysters, shakshuka, pastas, chicken sandwich, burger, meatloaf, Nordic cod, and steak and potatoes. The dress code is smart casual. My husband and I ate brunch here one time. The seating hostess and the waitress provided timely and friendly service. My husband said that at first glance, the menu looked good, but when he looked at the ingredients, he thought that each menu item had 1-2 ingredients that he did not like. For example, he usually loves eggs Benedict, but this one had chipotle hollandaise rather than a classic hollandaise. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Cereal Milk French Toast - 4 stars - Thick, fluffy brioche was topped with cream anglaise, powdered sugar, and salted cornflake cereal. It definitely tasted sweet and salty and had a mixture of soft and crunchy textures. Birria Hash - 4 stars - This bowl contained tender braised beef, potatoes, queso fresco, red onion, a runny sunny-side egg, and cilantro. The sauce tasted spicy. Pastrami Bacon - 4 stars - My husband said that this bacon tasted like regular bacon rather than pastrami. At least it was crispy. The total price for these three menu items plus one soda and tax was $37, plus a tip. read more

The most beautiful new restaurant in Pittsburgh award goes to Abode in Oakmont. The visual aesthetics of this spot are just incredible. Gotta love the beautifully curated design!!! From the color palette, to the floral murals to the lighting everything was made for Instagrammers (which I AM!!) Thankfully, the food lived up to the atmosphere. We stopped in for brunch and coffee and were pleasantly surprised by how affordable everything was for the quality. The house-made cardamom syrup in my coffee was a standout. The Cereal Milk French Toast was massive, light, fluffy, and packed with delicious flavor. The Birria Hash was another winner. It was hearty, flavorful, and a generous portion. I also tried the Low Country Benedict. It was a beautiful, creative take on the classic, and I loved the addition of the hotcakes. Personally, though, I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to Eggs Benedict. I prefer a rich, creamy hollandaise, and the spicier sauce just wasn't my favorite. But I am sure others will enjoy as it was made well. Overall, this is absolutely worth a visit. Both for the gorgeous design, delicious brunch, and surprisingly reasonable prices. A friend of mine recently posted about this place and it looked great, especially the decor. Well, I learn my lesson not to pick a place for its looks. We had a reservation and got seated right away. The menu isn't labeled for allergens so I had many questions since I can't do gluten. I know, it's annoying for restaurants to make modifications and I normally don't judge them for it. However, this place has gluten in almost every single dish; even the salads have breadcrumbs. I asked the waitress about modifications and she said they couldn't because the items were already premade. The only thing she "thought" was gluten free was the jerk chicken. I told her that I don't do spicy and she assured me twice that the dish wasn't spicy. Well, guess what, it was super spicy and I could barely eat a few bites. I'm not sure if she had never tried the dish or if the kitchen had made it extra spicy that day. The only thing, I was able to eat was the carrot appetizer and my drink. The carrots in my opinion tasted a little too burned. My husband had the Caesar salad and mac and cheese. He said both were good. At the end of the meal, the waitress said that she had heard that they were going to change the menu soonish to be more inclusive. If it is the case, I will give them another chance perhaps. The waitress also told us that it was owned by the Lot and they have like 8 other restaurants in this part of town. Not sure if they are better for diet restrictions. read more

Abode Kitchen & Bar is a great new addition to Oakmont! The interior is beautiful and very Instagram worthy. There's lots of street parking but you are in the main strip of Oakmont so weekends might be a little more difficult. Our server was really friendly attentive & gave great suggestions from the menu. I started with the Shirley Temple cocktail and while it was good, it was definitely strong. Next, I had one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. They have a special one on the menu, but this was just a regular old martini. They use La Prima espresso too, which is probably why it was so delicious! My friend and I split two appetizers - fried feta sticks, which were incredible and the buffalo eggplant which was also good but a little bit too much sauce and not fried enough. Overall, I definitely will be returning. I'm excited to try the brunch menu and some dinner options! read more

Wonderful beautiful gem hidden in Oakmont . My friends and I long for a good brunch place that creates a relaxing yes elegant atmosphere and this place provides just that. Their menu is small and the plates are also on the smaller portion size but the items listed all look phenomenal and seem to all come with a great presentation. We sat at a circular booth which was simple yet classy , however we will certainly try the bar next time because the decor with the vine leaves hanging down looked peaceful yet trendy. (I am sorry I never ended up taking a photo of it!) Service was pretty on point and everyone seemed very pleasant from the host stand to the tables to the bar. We ordered the beet and bean toast, cereal French toast and the sausage egg breakfast sandwich. All pictured and very satisfying ! We enjoyed mimosas (made with clementine juice and just enough to give it a good taste but mostly was procecco which I love ). I ended the brunch with an iced strawberry matcha tea. Simple in taste but delicious none the less . I have heard rumors that they will open for dinner at some point and more scheduled days. But for now , make sure to go on a Saturday or Sunday as they are only open those days from 10-3pm. My suggestion- definitely give them a try! read more

I went for my birthday with some friends. I got the Birria hash it was good but it needed something like avocado to break up the flavor. My sister and bestie got the Parmesan fried chicken salad and liked it but wished they got dressing on the side! A few people got the French toast and it was yummy. The drinks were all so good. First off, kudos to the owner of this new restaurant for taking a chance on bringing a brunch spot to the eastern suburbs. We love brunch in the East just like folks in Cranberry Township and the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. The ambiance is truly right on the cusp of being spectacular. The wallpaper and soft oak tones warm up the restaurant and make you want to stay longer. The exception is the Ladies Room and downstairs areas. I understand that this is a new place, but the Ladies Room is rugged. The owners have wisely shut down access to the downstairs area until finished. I can't wait until the downstairs area is completely finished because it's supposed to be open for special events and we need places like this in the East. With regards to the service, it was wonderful, especially for a new place. Our server was on point and never missed a beat with our orders and was able to make astute recommendations. With regards to the food, the taste was scrumptious. I could kiss the chef for the Shrimp and Grits. Small complaint with the serving of the Shrimp and Grits. The dish needs to be plated in the same way as the Birria Hash. It was hard to maneuver around the bowl that the dish was served in. The Birria Hash was extremely tasty and the egg was cooked perfectly as were the fries and Pastrami bacon. My only suggestion here would be to switch to a back or English cut bacon for your English Fry Up dish. I don't know of another restaurant in the Pittsburgh area that serves an English cut of bacon and I think that cut would be more appropriate for the dish and differentiate it from other restaurants that serves brunch. The owner has a house-made bacon at The Lot nearby and should add it here. I'm extremely hopeful for this restaurant and can't wait until it opens for lunch and dinner hours. read more

They have one of the best looking restaurants in western PA. The inside is stunning. Service was what you would expect given the atmosphere. Food? Not so much. Lots of issues. Appetizers too messy to eat. Sauces overdone such that they virtually destroy the entree. The salads looked great as they passed by. Should have ordered one of those. read more

Lovely dining room and attentive servers. We went today for brunch. Not a menu for those that aren't a little bit adventurous. If you want traditional brunch, go to a diner. Hubby had the birria hash. Excellent flavor. Very good. Wish the potatoes stayed crispy. I had the low country Benedict. Hollandaise was a good spicy. Eggs perfect. Things I would do differently, add a protein to the Benedict. I added bacon but should have been part of the entree. Toast , tortilla or biscuit should be included with the button to soak up the yummy sauce. Would like to see fresh fruit as an option. Would also love to see a quiche or frittata of the day based on what is in season. Can't wait to try the salads! We will be back! read more

Atmosphere was nice but food was mediocre. No one at our table of 5 was floored by the food. Too many flavor combos and just not executed as well as you'd expect. For an anniversary dinner I was disappointed and just did not enjoy the experience. Will probably not return. read more

Overpriced menu that tries too hard to be different. No one in my table of four thought their meal was good. How do you mess up butter? It tastes like body odor. I'm not picky and like different foods, but the random flavors just don't go together. Nice waitress, pretty atmosphere. But the menu is just awful, which is a shame because it looked intriguing. read more
