Mike made a personal visit to my apartment initially to take measurements and he brought a variety of swatches that closely matched the initial request I made while at the store. I felt very heard because my request was not the most common (100% cotton velvet); yet, Mike clearly directly responded to the design guidance I gave to the shop and came fully prepared. Because I live in a rental apartment, I wanted to install draperies that would serve as a wise investment and be versatile even when I eventually move. Mike helped me to make specific, cogent choices along these lines that will serve me well in the longterm. Mike also sent a full catalog to me so that I could browse rod and finial options and replied promptly and with care to my various follow-up questions. When the order arrived, I received a call to schedule the installation. I appreciated the clear, proactive communication. Mike, Chris and Peter, a capable trio, arrived on time on the appointed morning and worked meticulously, precisely and with thorough zest and dedication to their craft. They planned ahead and spent a generous amount of time to ensure that the draperies were installed to the highest standard. I felt that they deeply respected my space, not hesitating to take off their shoes at the door. They came prepared with tarps on which they laid their tools to protect my rugs. They made sure I was happy with the work and even went to great lengths to steam each velvet pleat, resulting in an impressively polished and opulent appearance. Clearly, Mike (and DB&D) bring decades of experience and refinement on all levels of the business. This is a local business that deeply cares about and invests in its relationships with both its customers and other local businesses. The entire experience was luxurious and it's really the kind that can only derive from extensive pre-planning, comprehensive logistical coordination, and a developed intuition for emotional attunement - because making the customer feel comfortable and the entire process feel effortless is ultimately the acme of immeasurable value. We had 3 tricky windows (a…read morevery, very large window; a sliding door; and a kitchen sink window with a small "eyelash" at the top) that I wasn't sure that we would be able to put Lutron smart blinds on but he was able to come up with a very elegant solution for all 3 that was also within our budget. He did a great job of walking us through all of our options, pros/cons of each, and provided us recommendations that felt tailored to our situation & budget (ie, I never felt like I was being upsold on anything). After having an in-home consultation to go over everything and take measurements we placed our order. The day of install, James and a colleague arrived on-time and installed the 9 blinds in less than an hour (seriously, they were so fast). They were very professional and respectful of our home (eg, cleaned up after themselves). There was a delivery issue with one of blinds (not Budget Blinds fault) and James sorted the issue that day and came by outside of business hours to finish the install for that last blind, which was greatly appreciated. Four months later and I am still in love with the Lutron smart blinds--one of the best upgrades we made to our home. I was the most hesitant about the shade for the kitchen sink window, as I was having trouble visualizing what it would look like, but that shade turned out absolutely beautiful. Overall, I had a really great experience and if I ever needed to purchase & install blinds again, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to James and Budget Blinds.

When the blinds came in less than a month, they called us right away to schedule a time to install the new blinds and get rid of the old window treatments. Mike, the gentleman who came to install and get rid of the old treatments, was extremely polite and efficient. I am so thrilled with our new window treatments. I called for information on Hunter Douglas shades and had a good talk with a woman here, after which we made an appointment for her and a technical person to come by the house a few days later to discuss details about how the mechanized shades work, and look at colors and fabrics.. About five minutes before the expected arrival that day I had a message saying "we" are running late but "we" expect to be there within 15 minutes. About 30 min later though, the doorbell rang and a man stood there. He did not introduce himself but his shirt was labeled "Hunter Douglas". I asked where the design person was with whom I had spoken and who had sent me that message. He didn't know. He came in and I asked if we should wait for her. He didn't know. No attempt to wear a mask or ask if I preferred he do so, and as he walked into the living room I saw he was wearing dirty tennis shoes as he walked on our Oriental carpet--no attempt on his part to remove or cover them. He was very terse (I could not tell if he was shy or upset about coming alone) but did the measuring. I asked what was going on, as I was expecting a designer to come with color books, fabric etc. He offered he had a color book in his car and could go get it, but I had expected to interact with a designer. He was in and out within five minutes. I called the shop, and another employee explained my contact was with a customer, and then, most oddly, proceded to explain to me what this other customer was asking about and was going to order. I stopped her as I wasn't interested at all in another person's order, said I had had a message that "we" were coming and who was this solo quiet man who turned up without ever giving his name even. I asked for my contact to call me back but was told they close at 2p and she would be leaving (heaven forbid they return a call past 2p apparently). I got the email address and sent off an email saying I found this all very unprofessional. I very well could understand running late with a client, but then why not call to say that and ask if we could re-schedule? But sending out this man alone, an employee who clearly was not at his best when speaking directly with customers and who didn't know what was going on even with his own workmate, was unacceptable. She had my email and phone number, but now five days later still no response. Very unprofessional and apparently don't like being called on it! The whole effect was very disorganized and unprofessional.
