We had a great experience here at Locals! We had Dolores as our waitress and she was so amazing! Very attentive and very friendly! We sat outside and was able to enjoy the water view. Even though we where the only ones outside she still never left us without checking in. She brought waters out right away just after sitting down. We had the crab stuffed mushrooms ,they were a bit small, but they were very tasteful! I had the surf and turf ribeye with scallops ! Steak cooked perfectly and the scallops tender. My husband had the seafood pasta and it was also very fresh and tasty! I recommend this place for sure! We will for sure will be back. Sorry no pics to share . read more

Very disappointed Took over 20 minutes just to get our drinks and an hour for our food. Got a rotten baked potato and the mac n cheese has zero flavor along with a hair in it. Scallops still had sand in them and tasted like they were just pulled from the ocean. The table next to us had tons of problems with their food. I thought I would give this place another try as the first time I went people who were seated well after us got their food before us and food came out cold, thought it was because they had just opened. I don't think I'll be back nor would I recommend this place unless they really step up their game, the place does have potential, but still has work to do food and service wise. read more

Went here after disembarking from the Cumberland Island Ferry. We had great service from Ro, who quickly brought our drinks, side salads, and shrimp & grits. I was so grateful for the fast service because we were HUNGRY! The salad was far superior to what you get in most restaurants. The greens were fresh and tasty! The shrimp & grits were perfection. I wasn't sure I would like the gravy on top, but it mixed well with shrimp, sausage, peppers, and onions to have a gumbo-like essence. The grits were cooked with just the right amount of butter and cheese. I'm so glad we stopped here. We even got chocolate cake to go. Too full after dinner. read more

I'm hard to please and usually find something in my dining experience that needs improvement. But not today at "Locals". I started my meal with the Ahi tuna as my appetizer. It was delightful. My entree was a flaky white fish called Hake on an olive and tomato Vera Cruz sauce. It was a standout dish perfectly cooked. Every bite was a burst of deliciousness that left me craving for more. The service was attentive and friendly. To top off the meal the restaurant has a stunning view of the St Mary's River. Overall my visit to this seafood restaurant was a memorable one. Amazing place- lots of choices for fresh seafood and they know how to cook it well! Everything was tasty and amazing! My teen girls are not typically fond of seafood, but they both loved it! We had everything from steak to kids chicken fingers to crab legs and everything was great. Shrimp po boy was better than the one we had in New Orleans. Kids chicken is so tender but actual chicken. Be advised they but season steak so ask before you order and they put broil seasoning on crab legs. We were visiting but wouldn't hesitate to go again if every back in town. read more

$20 for 5 scallops the size of my thumbnail and 6 fried shrimp- not a good value. Everything grilled has the same strong spice mix so you cannot taste the fish. Service was very nice and friendly and I love the view. They added a bar on one side, right in front of the best window view in the house but when you sit at the bar, you face a giant cooler ?!? So the bar people have no view and there are fewer tables with a view. read more

While on our ride back to Saint Mary's from Cumberland Island, the ferry Captain recommended we try Locals Dockside for seafood. As soon as we docked we took a short walk to a small unassuming building that bordered the park and overlooked the marsh. Without the recommendation, we might not have noticed it, but so glad we tried it! The inside isn't anything fancy but very welcoming. My husband ordered the Captain Cal Platter and although it's a little pricey, you get your moneys worth. He picked the scallops, grilled fish and fried shrimp. The plate was overflowing, at least a dozen shrimp, five grilled scallops and a large piece of fish with two sides. It was delicious and full of flavor. I ordered the crab cakes and honestly wasn't sure what to expect, and almost changed my order. I'm glad I gave them a try, they were the size of a small saucer and not over seasoned. Very filling with a great flavor. Their honey butter with the hush puppies is yummy! Our waitress also provided great service, so if you plan to visit Cumberland Island (also amazing), give them a try! read more

Has potential. Okay service (as expected in north florida, south georgia area). Misleading menu items. Got blackened shrimp and it came out fried. Told our server to which she nodded her head and nothing to come of it (not her fault at all, she did the place justice). No share plates came with the appetizers, just the serving plate set in the middle of a large table of 5. Table was dirty when sat, actually watched them brush off crumbs as we were being seated. lol. I've worked in the service industry for 6+ years and usually expect the bad service but management... Maybe don't hire some old lady server who repeats the word "crackers" to herself at level 9 volume walking across the restaurant (again not our server). Was eager to try this place out after it opened. We ordered the stuffed oysters; I ordered the swordfish and my husband got the ribeye with a lobster tail. The food was ok. My sweet potato fries looked similar to something I buy frozen and cook at home, and were lukewarm. My husband's lobster tail was exceptionally small. We waited a long time for a refill on our beverages (just a beer and glass of wine) and never received water. I get that they are new and figuring things out, which is why I'm giving them three stars, but I will probably go somewhere else next time we have date night. read more

We were SO hopeful but ended up disappointed. The food was hit and miss for our entire party. Ahi tuna came without the customary accompaniments. Appetizers were served without plates to share so we all sat looking at our food as it got cold. Fish and scallops were just okay, nothing spectacular. Fried shrimp was the only positive recommendation any of us could make. The wine list is IMPOSSIBLE to read as the print is microscopic and the lighting is HORRIBLE! Cold white bulbs made our entire party look sickly. No one wanted to come back and sit under the hideous interrogation lamps again! If you want the best scenic inside view, sit at the bar. We all thought it took up good table space and should have been placed in a different location. read more

The seafood was fairly fresh tasting; scallops were good. Baked potato was cooked the day before or at least it tasted that way. It was barely warm and hard. Bad baked potato is a poor representation. Appetizer of the shrimp with cheese and jalapeño was a hit at our table. Server was Izzy and did a fabulous job. I found this place while looking for a halfway point to meet our friends from St. Simon's - a perfect midway point from Jacksonville. I was skeptical because of the poor reviews, but I was willing to give it a try because they were new, and had maybe worked out any issues. We were greeted immediately and had a choice of eating inside or out. Although it was hot, the outside deck had a great view of the river and marsh. Our server, Rae was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and specials; and very accommodating. We ordered drinks and they came right away. Our party of 4 all had something different to eat and everything was tasty. I had grilled mahi, mashed red potatoes and asparagus - all cooked perfectly. There was a great variety of desserts, all homemade. Rae described each one and I chose the Hummingbird Cake... yum! The customer service was great and speedy, but we never felt rushed to leave. After we ate, we walked out on the dock to enjoy the river breeze. We will definitely go back. *Bonus: We drove through the little town of St. Mary's and it was adorable! read more

below average. we got to the restaurant over an hour before they close and were greeted by staff who looked less than excited to see us there. within 15 minutes they are already flipping chairs and the music was turned off. this was all before 9:30 (they close at 10). i work in the restaurant industry and i understand the urge to leave after a long day, but flipping chairs and turning off music while customers are still in the restaurant is so unprofessional. we got to-go boxes before we were even finished because we were so uncomfortable. food was not good-the mac and cheese was cold and the seafood did not taste fresh at all. will not be returning read more
