The food, atmosphere, and service were all excellent! My wife and I went to the Locals Raw Bar while on vacation in Beaufort. We arrived before they opened at 5:00 so we sat at a table out front. To our surprise the hostess saw us and bought us two glasses of water. At 5:00 she came and got us to be seated. We chose to sit at the bar. Their bar overlooked the kitchen, which was a nice treat for us. Between the two of us we had their raw Lil Stoners oysters, the Spider Sushi roll, and the Ramen. The noodles in my Ramen were Al dente and I personally prefer my pasta more cooked, but the flavor was spot on. Soft shell crabs were in season, so that helped my wife decide on the Spider Roll which she thoroughly enjoyed. The server helped my wife decide which oysters she should get and it was the perfect choice! She wanted to go back the next night to get them again. Everything we had was fresh and flavorful. It really was a very wonderful meal and evening! Will definitely eat there again if we visit Beaufort in the future. read more

My wife and I were visiting Beaufort for our first time. We wanted something "fresh" in the area and we popped in. Our server, who I can't remember her name, tattoos, black hair, young and cute, was extremely friendly. She was excited to share her knowledge on the menu and made fantastic recommendations. We enjoy ourselves very much here and wanted to come back, but didn't get the chance too. We ordered the tuna roll (one she recommended) it was AMAZING! And this harvest bowl I think it was called. The steak was cooked perfectly in it. I highly recommend. And I hope their business does well. Maybe they should consider expanding? Bravo & cheers! read more

Friendly service, open kitchen and dining area. Seasonal, limited, rotated menu. Chef and owner was active and visibly helping the restaurant run but also going around to greet customers. General consensus of our 6-person party was that the food was good. The poke bowls were just okay, definitely on the small side for an entree and entree price. Lobster roll, brussel sprouts, oysters, sushi, and shrimp and grits all received praise at the table. The kicker was the RANCH. Do not miss out on their house made ranch. We came here tonight with family and friends. We ordered the sashimi , as we are adding fish protein to our Wfpb diet. The pieces were large, which is great. The fish tasted fresh, which is always nice. The only 2 places in beaufort to get sashimi is here or at Saltus. They are pretty close in quality, but I think the fish at Saltus is a little better flavor. It is a casual place, almost like a cafe...our waitress was very sweet. I heard other guests rave about their fried chicken, but I can't opine since we are not eating meat. read more

Our friends who live in Beaufort frequent this small restaurant frequently, so we ended up having two dinners here during our 3-night visit. Of course, the menu was heavy with sea food and they change the menu offerings often relative to what they can get from their suppliers. Off of their grub is fresh and done nicely. We love oysters and start off each meal with at lease a half dozen each. Basically they are priced at $3 each. There are specials and sushi. Yes, interesting combinations for sure. Spicy tuna ($18), Cali $18 (lump crab, cucumber, avocado, house sauce, eel sauce), shrimp ($18), flounder ($21), mahi ($22), The Patton $25 (avocado, carrot, cucumber, infringer garlic sauce) and Hamachi $28 (crab, preserved lemon, pineapple, avocado and chili ponzu). Non-seafood offerings are fried chicken $23 (that I felt was too much breading and over-fried), salads and soups and some other things. Wine and beer are served. It is table service and there is a child menu. Very much a family place. Local, convenient and friendly service...like you are part of their family. read more

On the drive from Charleston to Hilton Head, we stopped here for a bite. The whole restaurant was running on young adults. They were clearly being trained well, cooking high end food with great service. Our server, Walker, was friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered the lobster roll and it was melt in your mouth good. My bf ordered the Cesar salad with jfs and a hand roll. The Cesar was just fair, small portion for the price. Overall great experience. We sat at the bar and could watch the whole cooking experience. Lobster roll consisted of a tail and claw. Decent amount of meat on a dark overcooked bun. However, the lobster was extremely difficult to chew! Rubber at it's best. If you are expecting a Maine lobster roll you will be very disappointed! Fries were not eatable as it was extremely over salted. Not worth giving it another try. read more

I love their Locals Raw Bar lighted sign. The restaurant sits just off Sea Island Parkway but the entrance to their parking lot is off Sunset. Happened upon Locals Raw Bar while spending the night in Beaufort on a boat that we docked at Lady's Island Marina, which is literally a 4 minute walk away. The sashimi was perfectly cut and perfectly served. We walked in just as they opened at 5pm and when we left there was not an empty seat in the house. Feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon this place. We will return for sure, but will call ahead for a reservation as I'd hate to not get a seat. Truely 5 stars!!! read more

This is the best restaurant we've eaten at in Beaufort. It's in a small place (not for long) but the food was fresh and delicious. Lots of small plates! The sushi was some of the best we've had and we've eaten sushi up and down the east coat. Very different! The spicy tuna hand roll was awesome! The owners are very involved and the service was great. I will be eating here again soon. If I had to make a complaint, I'd say the menu is a little hard to navigate, but the servers will help. Like I said - think small plates! Top notch! read more

Visiting Beaufort and was really excited to try this place for lunch as our first meal. The menu is interesting enough, creative, and has potential. Unfortunately we were disappointed after tasting a few dishes that were extremely over salted, like the top of the salt shaker went missing, from the fried pickles, to the JFC (Japanese fried chicken) in the Ginger salad, and the soft shell crab in the spider roll, which was a nice presentation otherwise. The grouper ceviche was a tiny portion a surrounded by greasy tortilla chips. The positives were the waiter was super nice, enthusiastic, and appreciative of us being there. The place was somewhat cute located in a small plaza with some outdoor seating. Beware of the fried food which was borderline inedible due to saltiness. For their sake, I hope this was an outlier day. read more

Great new restaurant in the area. I went this summer for a late lunch. It has an open kitchen concept, so we decided to sit at the bar. The staff were very welcoming, and you could tell that they love what they do. We had the Tuna Melt, which was our favorite plate we tried. The best tuna melt we have ever had. The pickles added a much needed freshness to a usually heavy dish. The Gazpacho (half portion pictured, other half my partner had. It was very lovely that they separated it for us without us asking.) was perfect on a hot summer day. We had the oysters, which were great as usual. The Pork Belly Buns were terrific and beautifully marinated, and I recommend getting these to share. The Shrimpin Aint Easy roll was well executed. read more

Sad to say that this is the third time I have been to this restaurant and as I do think the food is quite tasty and will give it good stars It is the 2nd time that I actually brought my partner here for his birthday . I told the person on the phone it was his bday because they asked and thought they would do something nice this time as they forgot the year before . but yet again they "forgot" sad as why bother asking when making the reservation if it is a special occasion if you are not going to at least say Happy birthday . We were so excited to see a new restaurant open up on Lady's Island. The place is small and the main focal point is the open kitchen. A fun concept, but the view from the bar stools was kind of sad. It was quite a bare bones prep and cook area. Nothing attractive about it. By all means, though, not a deal breaker. Folks can sit at the handful of tables or even eat outside in the courtyard. The service was pleasant and courteous but if pressed for time, it may not be the ideal lunch place. We waited over a half hour for a sandwich and fried shrimp. Not sure if they had a lot of to go orders or what, as the restaurant was not crowded yet the line cook kept cranking out the days special - lobster grilled cheese. Even when our order was finally called out, nothing was started immediately. Thankfully, we had the time. When our food was served, I noticed that the kitchen cut the local shrimp in a way that stopped them from curling so they kind of resembled the French fries. Curl or no curl, local fresh shrimp was what we were craving so the shape was inconsequential in the end. Unfortunately, though, there was too much not particularly tasty breading, which masked the flavor of the delicate shrimp. Another shortcoming was the heavy hand with the salt which robbed the taste buds of any sweetness from the crustaceans. A dunk in the cocktail sauce didn't help. We prefer a predominant horseradish punch not a sugar one. Considering this is a Japanese style eatery, I expected the shrimp to be prepared in more of a tempura style, with a light and shatteringly crispy crust. The house made fries were very good, dark, crunchy, with lots of potato flavor. The big cuts of cabbage in the coleslaw were a bit hard to eat. The slaw was very creamy but had a predominant taste of sesame oil. It needed more zing. The $26 price tag was too steep for the lobster roll, as it just didn't have enough meat to deliver the quintessential experience of indulging in big chunks of tail, often whole claw meat, and knuckle. We lived in New England and traveled the area extensively. Lobster rolls were everywhere, even McDonald's offered its own version. Locals' roll had good, fresh lemony flavor, but it ate wet which caused puddling on the plate and made the uncharacteristically not buttered bun get a bit mushy. My husband and I split the sandwich and I still left some bread on the plate because it was void of any filling. The sandwich was accompanied by a small Caesar salad which was well dressed, and was sprinkled with rice pearls. I'm all for anchovies in the dressing, but this just had too much of a fish forward flavor. The beauty of this salad is the flavor that results in the sum of its parts - all the ingredients working together, without one blasting out another. I just didn't care for Local's Raw Bar's version of this preparation. Even with the shortcomings we experienced during our visit, we won't hesitate to go back and give it another go. Maybe we chose the wrong items, maybe the staff had an off day, maybe it all came down to personal preference with our meals. Hard to tell. We were asked how are food was several times, and my answer was "good". Which was honest. I wasn't about to bring up the particulars I listed here of course, because again, it could have just been our personal taste preferences. read more
