I'm visiting Beaufort for a work trip & decided to have a nice dinner with my coworkers. Our server, Kelsey, was amazing. She was so friendly & helpful. Let's talk about the food Everything that we all had was absolutely amazing. I had a glass of sangria, Caesar salad, and the blackened dorado. I love mahi, it's one of my favorite fish dishes, and this was cooked so well. Not only was it glistening and just sliding apart, it was seasoned really well. The potato cake, pickled vegetables, and beurre blanc went really well together. I forgot that I ordered the bread pudding for dessert. Absolutely delicious! I didn't want to stop eating it haha. It's been a while since I enjoyed a meal like this one! I hope to visit again when we're in town! Also, this would be a cute date night spot. It's right on the water & the ambiance inside is soothing.

My veg roll... I have never had the presentation and the roll done so well. I hope that continue in this manner.

We are not eating meat... so when we come to Saltus, we order the veg sushi roll and the sashimi. These are the best in beaufort for sure. You can count on the fish being fresh 90% of the time. And they know how to make cocktails, which is also uncommon in beaufort... except for Old Bull (they make good cocktails too).

Dinner with the family while visiting Beaufort South Carolina. This is one of the town's staples and has some really good comfort food that hits the spot. On our most recent visit to start, I ordered the Tuna Nachos.... I like how the dish was prepared and the tuna was great. We ordered the Sea Island Shrimp & Grits... very good but heavy. The shrimp were fresh that's for sure and good. Also had the Diver Scallops.... I thought they were ideal in size and fit for the meal. The usual cocktails were ordered and the Spicy Margarita was a nice hit for me with the heat. Located on the waterfront area, they do have some patio seating but we opted for inside with a reservation due to the warm weather. The service was just "ok" that day for us. We were trying to engage with the server about her menu options, but responses were brief & short which made us feel like our questions were more of a burden. Granted, it was a busy night so it seemed that things were moving just too fast to really make it a personal experience but that shifted of experience. Great low country style food but like others reported, the premium pricing seems to be too high based on what is served.

We LOVED Saltus! We ended up arriving early and sitting at the bar for about an hour. The bartenders and sushi chefs are so hospitable. We ended up talking to many of them and they made our pre dinner experience perfect! Not to mention the drinks were amazing. For dinner we had the crab bisque (some of the best we've had and we order it everywhere we go) and the tuna sashimi. It was so fresh! For entrees we did the Blackened Dorado and the Filet Mignon with truffle fries and they were both so incredible. The filet could be cut with a butter knife and the fish was so clean and bright! We couldn't recommend this place more!

With the place not being very crowded...the service was very slow but with that being said our waitress was incredibly nice The shrimp and grits were phenomenal The ceasar salad was really good and the croutons were a highlight (not too crunchy but nicely toasted) The sushi though...I wouldn't pay half the price to get it again The salmon sashimi was good quality but the rolls were skimpy with the fish and the chili sauce was a weird combo...my roll was supposed to have a citrus yuzu but instead it tasted like sweet and sour sauce from chick fil a was poured over it I probably wouldn't recommend this place unless someone was really jonesing for some shrimp and grits.

Saltus seems to always deliver. We have never had a bad meal or service. Cocktails and wine list are always great starters. The local Bird Island Oysters along with the Fried Oysters were the standout this time. First time tying their Salmon and it was cooked perfectly to order. My only issue with Saltus is that they need to change up their menu. It has been pretty much the same for years.

Apparently it is "The Place to Be"! Looks like a favorite of the locals, which is always a positive sign. I opted for a lighter dinner of a dozen oysters on the half shell. Served with cocktail, mignonette and lemon. They were nice sized, slightly salty and perfect for a hot evening! Lots of dishes on the menu looked interesting, but I just didn't have room to try. Will be back! Service was great, and nice atmosphere!

Ask the Community - Saltus River Grill

Do they have all you can eat sushi?

they do not as far as I know. Their food is exceptional. Check out the menu for yourself: https://saltusrivergrill.com/menus/

Does Saltus have a beer list?

Yes, but limited. Good beers though.

    Do we need reservations?

No, but since they are still short-staffed due to covid, it would help avoid a 30min to 2 hour wait time depending on how busy they are.

Are well-behaved dogs allowed on the patio?

Yes, well behaved dogs are welcome. Hope to see you soon!

My friend had the short rib lasagne ($26). My meal was absolutely perfect, everything seasoned/flavored perfectly. My friend's dish looked a little heavy for me but she loved it, also. We chose a nice wine, I Googled it: Banfi Belnero is a premium Super Tuscan IGT wine from Castello Banfi in Montalcino, primarily crafted from Sangiovese blended with international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It features a deep ruby color with notes of black cherry, plum, spice, and vanilla, offering a full-bodied, structured palate with balanced tannins. Enjoyed 2 glasses of it ($32)! We split the chocolate Pot de Creme ($10) for dessert, so good. The restaurant was crowded, as we went a dinner time. Were lucky to get a table, in the bar area, near the window. Our server was running by and I didn't mind at all calling out to him, as he didn't check on us as much as the table to next to us, who were regulars. Once they left, he honored us with his presence, actually lingered to explain the quality of the wine we chose. I enjoyed this visit, although I am spoiled on getting much better service in Dallas, but every time I visit the islands, I try to remember to focus on the food, company and atmosphere.

I ordered the sterling filet mignon medium rare with additional onions... For the few slices of onion I had it was not worth the six dollars. We considered going to a different steak restaurant but the reviews were comparable so we thought we would try wise guys. Big mistake. The only thing good about our experience was the warm bread with butter. Our server never asked us how our food was and was not attentive. We were there on a Tuesday night so not a busy crowd. While most of the rooftops are regularly accessible to the public, there's something about Myrtle & Rose which has caused it to elude us. Often, it has been closed for a private party, or perhaps it was full. In any case, we finally were carded and sent up the elevator with the slightly aggressive doors. Yes, they close fast. Keep a move on! We were offered a table overlooking the river and served by Will. My wife enjoyed her Amber Hour, and I an old fashioned. I suppose they don't want us getting tipsy and falling off, since my drink may have had 2 or 3 ounces. A good little taste, but not for long for this Wisconsin boy. Let's not go down the road of it being a "real" old fashioned -- I know and enjoy both kinds. (You must when you also own a distillery.) The two shining points of the evening were the view and our server. This spot offers a nice, close-up view of the river from both directions -- perfect for the occasional ships passing in the night. Our server, Will, was very professional, attentive, and thoughtful. By the end of the 50° night, Will had brought a blanket for my wife. While we can handle below-zero temps at home, there's something about 50° on vacation that gives us the shivers. Perhaps it was the dress -- I'm not sure, since I wasn't the one wearing it tonight. Anywho, finally a great experience was had at this well-done rooftop bar.

Another customer apparently had a phone number similar to mine, and the hostess mistakenly entered my number into their reservation system through OpenTable. During my first call, the hostess stated that the reservation needed to remain in place in order to hold the other customer's reservation. I attempted to cancel the reservation myself through OpenTable, but the app indicated that only the restaurant could remove it.
