Love this place! It's been 10 years since we've stayed here and it's even more amazing! They recently renovated the dock/deck area it looks so beautiful. They soon will be adding tables, chairs, and flower beds to make it more beautiful. Our room is perfect for 2 and the view from our room is just spectacular! Second time coming up here with my family. The kids and I Love it, it's our new spot for family vacations!

We have been coming here for several years, we try to make it up there a couple times per year. We have stayed in several of the rooms and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The location can not be beat, the scenery is nothing short of magnificent, the fishing can be good right from the deck. I usually do catch and release but if you like to eat your catch, they have grills right on the deck to cook up those deep, cold water beauties! While this place is in a very quite and peaceful location, Truckee town is only minutes away with all its amenities. Owners are vary accommodating and friendly. We had to cut our trip short at the last minute and they were very understanding. Great place, great people, great time! read more

My first visit to LLL and it didn't disappoint. Stayed in the 'bedroom's with a log cabin feel. Cozy with a mini fridge and microwave. Clean and comfy bed. Enjoyed having the window open at night for the cool breeze. View from our deck level room is stunning. Huge deck to lounge on, swim, fish, paddleboard etc from. Onsite staff a lovely young couple with their dog Luis. Only 8 rooms - plenty room for all. There's also a grill with a few bench tables. I see why there aren't many recent reviews. Almost feel like writing this review is the wrong thing to do because it feels like sharing the location of a gold mine no one else knows about. If you love the mountains, lakes I do not know of any other lodging around that you can be any closer to the water than right here ! The accomodations are pleasant, clean, nothing fancy. CHARMING. CUTE. CLEAN. COMFY. QUIET. MOUNTAIN VIEWS. LAKESIDE HOT TUB. What more do you really need in life? I stayed at Loch Leven this Saturday night (usually is a 2-night minimum), during a very quiet (no snow) period in Tahoe. This place is extremely charming, has that 1950s lodge feel but is very clean and well-kept with great character. Every room has a stunning view of Lake Donner and access to the lakeside hot tub. I was alone in the hot tub for a beautiful sunset with a glass of white wine = perfection. Great cable selection (more than the chain hotel I'm at tonight), comfortable bed, quiet, clean space, easy access, friendly manager (Debbie), small fridge, stove, basic kitchen essentials / cooking needs. Only a stand-up shower (no tub) but in my mind, that's a small price to pay for an otherwise fabulous little spot. And you can get your soaking done in the hot tub! I'm all for supporting local spots over chains and highly recommend Loch Leven. read more

This waterfront lodge has been a family favorite for decades. We have used it twice over the years for family reunions where we rent the entire lodge. We also pop up often during the year as a close get away. It is easy to see why Sunset magazine has featured it twice as a fantastic and close California getaway. Jamie and Daren, the hosts, do a great job of keeping it clean and operational. read more

The Loch Laven Lodge is my husbands and my favorite place to stay when we go to Donner Lake. The prices are reasonable and the staff working there will go over and beyond to make your experience great! The rooms are cozy, cute and CLEAN! They have kitchens and TVS and look onto the most gorgeous lake around. This family owned gem will not disappoint! It is hard to find places like this with such good service. The Lodge is very easy to get to and is near everything you may need. The patio is gorgeous with beautiful views for swimming and fishing. There are trails around the lake that are lovely to run or walk on. The market just walking distance and places to eat. There is a skate park nearby for kids, or a Rec Center. It is a short drive to downtown Truckee which offers plenty of shopping and places to eat. There is a lot to do in and around the Lodge if you want to leave otherwise, relax and enjoy all Lodge has to offer. read more

We visited MLK weekend in 2016. The lodge is very family friendly, and our lakefront suite had plenty of room for us and our two little girls. Easy driving distance to Soda Springs/Boreal/Sugar Bowl, and an easy 3 minute walk to Sticks market, making it one of the few places in the area where you can walk to both breakfast and a small grocery store. In room amenities included a kitchenette, Keurig, and a gas fired fireplace perfectly suited to drying out soggy snow gear. Very happy we came here and would love to visit again soon. read more

We stopped here on the way back from the Burn - which was a grand idea. Quiet, tranquil, beautiful spot to decompress. This place has everything: - you can fish right off the back deck - others in your group can swim in the lake and watch you not catch fish - or kick it in the hot tub and watch you not catch fish - there is a grill you can grill your imaginary fish on - there is a store a short walk away where you can buy worms to not catch fish and fixins to serve with your imaginary fish - there's a good restaurant walking distance away when you decide give up on fishing and come in from the cold. The rooms are nice, and actually sleep four (two on the fold-out couch), have a kitchenette, etc. read more

We come here every year for spring break! Awesome deck for fishing and lounging by the lake. It can't be beat. There's nothing better than a trout fresh from the lake! They usually have a kayak and/or rowboat that's fun if you want to get out on the lake a little. Rooms are pretty clean and cozy. The kitchenette is always clean and pretty well equipped. Debbie, the manager, is super friendly! She really makes you feel at home. One flaw: the bunk beds feel like cinder blocks. read more

Loved our stay here earlier this week. There were six of us: four adults and two of my grand children. We had a great time. We had the townhouse and it was spacious and well equipped. There were TVs in each room and a well equipped kitchen. The kids loved playing in the water by the deck. Lots of restaurants close by. Beautiful setting. I will be back soon. read more

This spot is the perfect getaway for the 9 to 5, suburbians wanting a break from reality. This place is very quiet during the off season(got the hot tub to ourselves both nights). The room is well equipped with a kitchenette(oven, stove top & microwave) including a Keurig, so bring your favorite Kcups from home. The room was well maintained and comfortable. Beyond the comforts of the Lodge itself, this place is worth the stay for the awesome views. Easily spend the day staring at the lake and surrounding mountains. Absolutely beautiful. I know... it's only three stars, but let me explain. I'd give it five stars if it had different owners. The rooms are nice, the staff is great. The dock is faboo with windbreaks for fishing, a canoe and row boat if you'd like to go out on the lake, and a shaded barbeque area. I've spent hours on the dock fishing successfully. The downside is the owners treat this as both their summer and winter home, spending several weeks each year entertaining guests. They take over the place, usually bringing loads of friends and family, and they treat paying guests with little or no respect. Good luck trying to use the barbecue. The hot tub will be full of them too. They have all sorts of personal water equipment they store in plain site year-round, but ask about it, and you'll find it's for the owner's use only. They are loud and the world revolves around them. Their guests don't clean up after themselves and are disrespectful of the staff as well as other guests. This is a *great* place to stay, just verify the owners aren't going to be there also when you make your reservations. If it weren't for them this would be a five star review. read more

We enjoyed a great stay at Loch Leven Lodge on Donner. We rented the lake front suite on the top floor and were very happy with our room and experience. This lodge is perfect for families or groups or a quick romantic getaway however it isn't the quietest place (the walls are thin) so if you don't mind hearing your neighbors conversations then you will have the best view of the lake in the whole area, clean and cozy rooms, friendly hosts who are full of great suggestions and quick access to Truckee. Luckily we had one full night with the place to ourselves and sat on the deck looking at the stars and listening to the train pass by. There is a fantastic hot tub and deck with plenty of room for fishing and picnics. read more

Solid place in gorgeous location. Went up for long weekend with family and stayed in lake view suite. Woman who runs the place is very kind and friendly. She let us check in very early, which allowed us to settle in, change and ski. Very cool. Room is well-kept and clean and well-heated. Kitchenette is perfect for prepping coffee, breakfast, etc. My only complaint was with the sofa bed. Mattress was as thin as could be. So bed felt like I was simply laying on an uneven bed of springs. It was really bad. Queen bed, on the other hand, was comfortable. View of lake is beautiful and you are only 10 minutes from Tahoe Donner, Sugar Bowl and downtown Truckee. I will go back, certainly. Free wifi. read more

We absolutely loved the redwood dock! The kids got a kick out of the putting green, then swimming after the golf balls that they knocked into Donner Lake. And then into the very clean hot tub. And repeat! Loch Leven Lodge was extremely family friendly, and with the huge dock, couples that wanted a quiet view of Donner could sneak off to one end or the other. The kitchenette was well equipped so we ended up making pancakes one morning and sandwiches for lunch. Dinner would have been easy on the gas grill on the dock, but we elected to make a shockingly short drive to downtown Truckee to window shop and have dinner on the town. My wife and I highly recommend visiting the lodge for classic Donner fun! read more

Loch Leven Lodge is the best place to stay in Truckee. It's in a beautiful location on Donner Lake. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean, and most of them have a kitchenette with all the things you need for cooking and dining. All the rooms have a stunning view overlooking the huge deck and the beautiful lake and mountains. If you're lucky you'll catch a view of a passing train on the adjacent mountain side that adds charm to an already picturesque landscape. We planned a family vacation there in July with my parents, siblings and their kids and oh my gosh! It was so fun. The deck is hands down the best deck on the lake. It's huge, there is plenty of sun and shade, and there is a community bar b cue that anyone staying there can use. There's also a jacuzzi and even a tiny putting green with nine holes. They have a canoe and other water toys as well as plenty of life jackets around for the kids. There is a floating island about 20 feet off the deck that fits about 7 or 8 people and it is really fun to jump off of and into the water. Overall, it has all the elements for both fun and relaxation. read more

The location makes this a great place for a night or two. We had a small bedroom but it was very clean. It was shoulder season so there were not many guests. Opening the window to the lake view was very nice, and we could sit in a number of places on the spacious deck. If it had been warmer we would have barbequed. We used the hot tub, and the manager loaned us a fishing rod and gear when she learned we like to fish. We recently stayed there over a weekend with our three daughters and found the accommodations in good condition, comfortable and clean, and so charming. We had the most relaxing time at Loch Leven Lodge. I wanted to stay there, having grown up in the area. You cannot beat the location. Beautiful decks right on the lake. Hot tub, BBQ and dock for summer swimming. We were there off season and it was nice and quiet. Rooms are well stocked with Keurig coffee maker, Starbucks coffee, mugs, wine glasses, water glasses, spoons, knife and even the single bedroom had a small refrigerator which served us well. The shower was small but a great shower head. Bath is also equipped with hairdryer and nice soaps and shampoo etc. Our blinds didn't close (except by hand) and I told Mike the mgr. about it but he knew and said they are getting all new blinds in few days. I especially enjoyed my coffee on the deck in the morning watching someone ski on very smooth water. So beautiful. This is a stickler for us... everything was CLEAN. We will be back soon as we can. Beautiful lodge and nice people. Hint: if you don't want the restaurant crowds and high prices go to Safeway deli and get a meal to bring back and enjoy a lakefront meal at the lodge. I was completely unprepared for how beautiful this place is. The dockside view of the lake and snow covered mountains is simply breathtaking. The hot tub's not bad either! We stayed at this quiet family owned lodge on the recommendation of a friend and we enjoyed our stay here more than our stay at the Ritz Carlton and for much less. The rooms have an old fashioned charm with a balcony that overlooks Donner Lake. The staff was really helpful and the owner's son was like an ambassador for Truckee; he made some great recommendations for where to go out at night. We can't wait to return to this beautiful lakeside hideaway. read more

I have stayed at the lodge many times over the past few years with the owners present at all times and I have always had wonderful interactions with them. They are always polite and happy to help you with anything as well as go above and beyond to make your stay lovely. There is nothing greater than waking up to the lake and sitting out on the pristine deck and having a cup of coffee with your morning cereal.
