Writing a review for both the inn and the restaurant/bar. This is a beautiful inn and bar that overlooks the Truckee River. I would highly recommend going to the bar and restaurant, which is 1 block away from the bustling activity of downtown. If you can get a seat facing the river, it's a beautiful view to eat, drink, and enjoy Truckee. I got the 3-meat sampler plate, which had great brisket and pulled pork. The tri-tip, unfortunately, turned out really dry and flavorless. For the inn, it was a remodeled room that still felt quaint. The windows are incredibly old school and heavy to open, propped up by a wooden plank on the side. Since there is no AC, you do have to get your workout in by lifting the window to get some air, especially during the summer. The largest annoyance was the loud train that runs every 1-2 hours in the middle of the night. It woke us up consistently. It's not something the innkeepers can do anything about, but the city of Truckee should help look into it. Bed and breakfast was a Mr. Coffee brewed pot and some pre-made muffins and oranges. They have a parking lot across the street that's free for guests, and it's conveniently located next to downtown and the river. read more

It probably doesn't get better than this cozy little inn with a view of the river behind it. It's a small place, very rustic with a log-and-cabin kind of feel. The owners, a very friendly couple, run the inn and were there to check me in and make sure I had everything I needed. This was a nice touch, although I did have to wait about 5 minutes for one of them to arrive to check me in. The room I stayed in was sized well, had a very comfy bed with plenty of pillows, a great view of the river, a TV with cable, and free wireless internet access. The heater kept the room cozy, although the bathroom (with stone flooring) was quite icy. I was pleased that, although the bathroom fixtures are circa 1920, they work great. Water pressure was amazing! The bathroom could have used nicer towels, but if that's my only complaint then this is a nice place. When I woke, there was fresh coffee and your typical breakfast choices (cereal, oatmeal, toast, etc) waiting for me in the kitchenette. The only thing missing here was a crackling fire. Since I was staying on a weekday, my stay was only $126 after taxes. I am definitely returning the next time I find myself in Truckee. River Street Inn - Main Entrance - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Truckee, California

Me and the wifey enjoyed a very pleasant stay here recently. We were coming back from the national bowling tourney in Reno and didn't want to drive all the way back to the Bay Area in one day. It helped that before we left to go to Reno, DDD featured Jax diner. We almost didn't get there, though. The Internet directions says to turn right on Brockway. We never found Brockway, but we did find Bridge. The nice Asian gentleman in the gas station directed us to go over the tracks, and there we were. So it's actually located on Bridge and East River Street. Our hostess greeted us shortly after letting us in. I had a few minutes to snap a few pictures of the common area. Not only did it remind me of the look of my grandmothers house, it even smelled like it! lol. Don't make a change though, it's nice to be reminded of her. We had the choice of two rooms. Both were very nice. One was located on the quieter side of the building, the other faced Bridge St and the river. It seemed brighter and we loved the fireplace, so we chose that one. Our hostess kindly even helped take some of our heavy baggage to our room. Faye wasted no time getting comfy in the big bed and checked out the TV channels. It wasn't long before she was snoozing. lol. I hope the proprietors won't mind that with camera in hand, I went exploring and took a few pictures. I want them to know, I did not in any way disturb anything in any of the other rooms I explored. I hope my photos bring them more business. Bridge street was busy with traffic until about 7pm, but that really didn't bother us. After that it was significantly quieter. We went to dinner about 8pm. It was only then that I started to pay attention to the trains. One went by about 9:30p, another about 11pm and a third one about 12:30am. I work at night, and try to stick close to my schedule on vacations. There were no more trains until 5:30am. Frankly, the 11 and 12:30 ones Faye slept through. Yes, it blows it's horn when crossing the intersection, but I didn't think it was that loud. At about 7:30 am you can smell the coffee. LOL Faye had to go have some. We were happy for that. I don't drink coffee, but Faye has to have her jolt in the morning. I was also happy for the spacious refrigerator in the kitchenette of the common area. Our hosts didn't seem to mind that I stored my Jax leftovers in there. Thank you very much. The only minus point is I couldn't get online. Though there were plenty of connections, they were all secure, so of course I couldn't piggyback from them. Maybe next year that will change, or even put some dsl cable hookups in the common area. LOL, I'll be the only one sitting there at 2am. :) All in all a pleasant and relaxing stay and we intend to visit next year when it's time for bowling tourneys again. read more

We stayed at River Street Inn years ago when our son was learning to ski. It was a great stay. Good value, lovely innkeepers, great accommodations. Fast forward to 2017. We heard that Squaw would be open on July 4th! Wild! Kirkwood is our home mountain for the last 6 years so we didn't have a clue where to stay near Squaw in July. But then we thought about the great place we stayed in Truckee years ago. We messaged and they were still there, going strong! We booked immediately. It was awesome to visit again. The same amazing family owned the place. Since we had been there last, they opened up a great bar and restaurant facing the river. Still a good value, lovely innkeepers, great accommodations. And now, you can get a cold pint on the deck by the river. Highly endorse. Would stay again. read more

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5. God, I hate to take the half star away from this otherwise perfect inn. It is one of the best B&B's I've ever experienced. The owners are super nice, dedicated and friendly; and the Inn is very comfortable and decorated to the "T". Our room was the loft/suite that faces the street looking onto the main drag of downtown Truckee. Jax's Diner was just kiddie corner from the room, with its quaint aluminum shine and flashing neon lights. Continental breakfast included, with wafts of freshly brewed coffee that float into your room by 7:30am. The communal breakfast table allows everyone to chat and eat; compare snow reports, ski resorts and best apres ski bars between bites of granola, toast and fruit. The only misgiving I have about this Inn is its proximity to the train tracks, with Union Pacifics rumbling through multiple times a night, blaring their horns as they roll through downtown Truckee. The first time it happened, I sat straight out of bed and screamed, "WTF?!" After the horn and after the clunkclunkclunkclunkclunk of seemingly endless cars that follow, it's once again peacefully still. It's so frustrating because I'm not one to complain about street noise (I live off of a major intersection in Oakland), but I experienced absolutely heart-pounding awakenings. I wish the owners had intimated the noise issue in the beginning. We would have been more prepared if we had some warning, and then made the decision to stay anyway. All in all, great inn. Just beware of the midnight expresses. read more

Well, this will be my first bad review. I booked this place for my boyfriend's birthday, thinking it would be a nice, romantic getaway - WRONG!!! We were given the front room (by the main front door and lobby area) and were assured, without prompting, that the noise wouldn't be a problem since we were the last to check in. Well... the building is on the intersection of a fairly busy road and mere feet from the train tracks. We knew we'd need earplugs solely due to that, but had no idea the night we were in for. Since the room was by the front door, we got to hear EVERYONE coming in. First there was the banging of their feet (to get off the snow, but which sounded like someone pounding on our door), then there was the creek of the front door (in dire need of WD-40) then the slam of the door closing, then the clumping of feet down the hallway. Not to mention in the morning you can hear every word from the lobby area (which, of course is where breakfast is served.) This is all in addition to the train horn that sounds throughout the night. We told the owner in the morning that we'd had a horrible night's sleep and that we wanted to negotiate the rate - especially since he'd gone out of his way to say that the noise wasn't a problem. He told us that he'd have to talk to his wife since he didn't know how to use the credit card machine (which is weird, because he knew how to use it when we paid for it upon checking in. And that's another thing - always be cautious when they make you pay AHEAD of your stay.) So his wife calls me and tells me that there's no way she can refund any portion of our money, but that she'll give me a gift certificate to come back. I told her I wasn't planning on coming back to Truckee anytime soon and that that really wouldn't do me any good. After a lot of back and forth she claimed the best she could do was send a gift certificate. Bottom line: if you want a good night's sleep, don't stay here. Earplugs don't work here. I really hate writing bad reviews, but if I can save someone nearly $200 and a crappy night's "sleep"... read more

We arrived at the River Street Inn late and the innkeeper was helpful to tell us how to get in, came over to the property to get us checked in and recommended a restaurant. Our room was cozy with a nice bath with a claw foot tub. So far so good. Went out to dinner and came right back. Then the first train went by (around 10:00 pm) on the tracks that are one block away. Let me note that because of the crossing the trains are required to blow their horn and it is loud, even with the window closed. We went to bed and the next train came by around midnight. Another one at 2:30. There was another one, I think around 5:30 or so. I realize that it is no fault of the innkeeper that trains go by constantly. I just want people to be aware that if noise wakes you up, bring earplugs or stay somewhere else, although Truckee is so little that I imagine that at any place you stay in town you will hear the train. We got up and went down for the continental breakfast. What to say? I guess when I heard "continental breakfast" I assumed there would be some nice pastries or something freshly baked available. At every other B&B we've stayed in we were served a hot breakfast with the innkeepers present and chatting with us. Let me say that we were aware going in that a continental breakfast was to be served. At The River Street Inn that consisted of English muffins (packaged), raisin bread from Costco, granola, juice, corn flakes, coffee, milk and maybe something else I'm forgetting. Everything was laid out on the counter and it was serve yourself with the innkeeper nowhere to be found. She did show up for about 5 minutes, saw that everyone was talking, and left again. Checkout consisted of us leaving our room key on the desk. We were not impressed. read more

Charming, romantic, convenient and affordable! I booked this place because the queen beds have down comfortors that "are perfect for snuggling". This is really what the website says. The building has some history and great exposed beams, and an comfortbale living room area, which I used to curl up with a good book. Our room was right on the river and the rooms are a good size with clean bathrooms complete, with an old fashioned claw tub and toilet flushing system. However, all the plumbing has been totally updated so, you get the charm and look of a clean, victorian building with all the updates, including flat panel T.V.'s in the rooms - but, they're not huge by any means. The owners are great, very friendly. The only drawback, truthfully, is the traffic noise that you might be able to hear. We were right on the river (at my request), so our room was probably closest to the road than some of the other rooms and thus, the traffic was audible from our place. But, it didn't really bother us at all, and once it was time to go to bed, the traffic died down. But, at the fantastic rates we received (which beat both the Holiday Inn Express and Best Western Hotel), I was thrilled and I think it was the best choice for the price! I would definatley go back there when I'm in town again. read more

We stayed with our small dog in the bottom floor room in what looked like the handicap accessible room with a ramp providing direct access to the outdoors. The owner was very nice and the room was adorable and cozy, and judging by the quality of the furnishings and every last detail of this pretty inn, it looked like no expense was spared. I was certain we'd get a good nights sleep. I was wrong. First, the bed was horribly uncomfortable and hard. I have to say it's the worst bed I've ever slept in. Second, the room was so hot, it was unbearable and the heater was turned off. I'm usually always chilly so it's rare for me to complain about the heat. My dog was panting so loud, she woke me up one of the few times I was actually able to fall asleep, and I had to take us both outside for a cool down in the 40 degree night air. We had the only window opened from both ends the minute we checked in, but it still didn't help. Third, the trains go by every hour and a half and are LOUD, and the neighbors nearby have barking dogs that seem to live outside in their yard and barked at every sound. I also feel that $175 in low season is just way too much money for what you get here. We also didn't partake of the dismal looking continental breakfast the next morning. Overall, I just didn't think it was a good value at all and our plans were ruined the next day because we were so sleep deprived. read more

My wife and I stayed here during our honeymoon. I grew up in Truckee and wanted to show her where I grew up. Ironically I had actually lived in this place back when there was a restaurant downstairs and an apartment in the upstairs. It was quite fun to stay here after so many years. Of course it does not look anything like it did when I was a child because this has been converted to a Bed and Breakfast. Okay, for the review. The Inn Keepers were very pleasant from the get go. I explained to them about my history and they were very accommodating. There is a wonderful common area at the entrance with a stocked refrigerator in the kitchen. We were told to help ourselves. We did. :) We sat and listened to music and just enjoyed ourselves. As for the room. We were able to pick out the room that we wanted. Each room has its own full bathroom which was nice. The rooms are cozy. The bed unfortunately was not very comfortable and was noisy whenever one of us would move. Did I mention that we were on our honeymoon? :) Finally, the noise level is a bit much. I knew that the noise level would be a bit elevated since I had once resided here, however I'm being honest for those looking at staying here. If you do not mind traffic noise and an occassional train going by, yes, this place is by the railroad tracks, then this place is well worth the stay. I hope this is helpful. This place is quirky. Very rustic, and perhaps good for one night. If you want some good rest while in Truckee, you might consider finding a more traditional hotel. read more

Had a nice stay in Truckee at the River Street Inn. Close enough to walk to all amenities in Old Town Truckee. Staff was super friendly. Rooms were clean and warm. We had no problems with the heat even though it was 18 degrees outside. Like any other city, there will be noise. Just go with it. Wear earplugs if it bothers you or stay in some lonely cabin out in the sticks. read more

We arrived as a group of eight people at the front door where a sign greeted us telling us to walk around to the bar for check-in. So we hike around to the other side, luggage and all, and walk into the bar where no one seems to know they do hotel check-ins. We were told to wait and then observed as the two employees continued to serve drinks to customers of the bar. This is all as eight people in our family stood holding our luggage in a small crowded bar. Eventually I called the owner who very tersely, and without apology, said that she forgot to give them our paperwork and she would be right there. So we waited. We got checked in and during the check-in process it was explained that the bar &a grill closes at 9. What the owner failed to mention is that the staff stays past 9:00 and cleans while blasting their music and banging things around. I had to call and leave a voicemail for the owner at 9:30 asking for the noise to stop. She never bothered to return my call. The owners seem to be offsite nearly all the time and trying to operate this place on auto-pilot. Pretty unfair to the guests! The train is extremely close and will wake you during the night. Continental breakfast was ONE overripe banana, some apples, old granola, juice, and yogurts. We opted to go elsewhere. But the worst part of the stay (yes, I haven't even mentioned it yet) is the sheer filth of the rooms. Visible dirt and dust everywhere, a shower curtain that is absolutely disgusting, etc. Did I also mention that the two smoke detectors I saw had no batteries in them? Avoid this place... at $165 per night, I wish I had spent my money elsewhere!! read more

Location, Location, Location! The proximity to downtown Truckee is one of the main perks of this B&B. There's not much better than being a block away from bed after some post-snow wine and dinner (at Moody's - of course). I personally don't have a problem with the train noise - to me it's one of the most charming things about Truckee. And, the owners did an awesome job of updating the building while paying homage to its historic architectural elements. But, let's talk downsides: 1. Cleanliness: The Inn is clean in all the ways that really matter - i.e. bathrooms, floor, linens etc. However, there is definitely something to be said about DUSTING and staying on top of cobwebs. During our most recent stay, I literally wrote my name in the dust sitting on top of the wainscoating and couldn't get over the webs hanging from the (gorgeous) lofted ceiling in our room. They could definitely kick it up a notch in this department. 2. Service: We've never had a problem with service before our most recent stay. But, because they don't have on-site management, any unforseen situations (read false fire-alarms) aren't handled very efficiently. During our last stay, the alarm went off around midnight - despite the efforts of the guests, fire department, and alarm company, no one could get ahold of the owners for a good 45 minutes (during which time we listened to the relentless alarm and shivered outside in the cold). If you aren't going to have on-site staff, then at least be constantly available by phone for any issues that arise! All in all, it's a pleasant and charming inn. There is definitely room for improvement, but I'll be stopping in for a stay from time to time to see how they are doing. read more

My wife's birthday so she got to pick a place that I perhaps wouldn't have,a bed and breakfast kind of place located in Old Truckee close to the tracks. It was built in the late 1800, built to last and its still here. You loose a little modern day luxury when you stay in a place like this and that's just fine as you are staying in a piece of history. It's umm...cute, cozy, convenient.m, with the Truckee River right out our window. There is a restaurant and bar on the bottom floor...who doesn't like a bar just one spiral flight of stairs down. Inside it was quite and calming, outside car, train and snow plow traffic can get a bit much. My wife was happy so I was happy and it did kinda calm me down staying here. I would say that I spent an extra amount of time relaxing in this place. I must note that parking in Old Truckee is tricky so this place is perfectly located to restaurants, shops and convenient stores...convenient walking distance. Bless these small places that make you feel at home in the middle of somewhere different. read more

This review is a little delayed, but I can't stress enough how impressed I was with this bed and breakfast. The room was very clean, the bathroom was nice and big, and the owners are wonderful. My mom and I stayed at this while we were visiting Truckee for a cycling race. She's an avid cyclist, and was looking forward to participating in the Tahoe Century Ride this past Sept. Still, due to poor planning on my part there was not enough room in my little car for both our bicycles. Without us even asking the owners of the Inn offered to take us and our bikes to the starting line. I couldn't believe how generous they were. The day after the race the owner sat with my mom for over an hour during breakfast listening to stories about the race, and offering alternative routes she could take with her bike that day. He was really knowledgeable, and incredibly friendly. He was simply having fun hanging out with us. We felt like we were visiting an old friend, not staying at a hotel. I had a great time. As for the room. The bed was comfortable. We didn't stay near the street, so I didn't really notice any noise. The breakfast was nice, and there were lots of options for cereal, toast, etc. My favorite aspect of this b and b is its vicinity to town. Seriously, when you stay here you are within a block of the restaurants and shops in downtown Truckee. I would recommend staying here to anyone. read more

Cons - street noise, train noise, adjacent room noise, restaurant noise (our room was directly above the restaurant, so the noise from its music and loud customers was nonstop from afternoon until close). Looks like a bed and breakfast but operates like a standard hotel - never saw/met the hosts (restaurant waitstaff processed our check-in); breakfast was of the skimpy continental breakfast variety (stale mass produced tasting pastries, some sorry looking whole fruit). Fun to stay there once for the historic charm, but given the noise level, I would not stay there again. read more

This place was just what we needed in an emergency, and exceeded our expectations in service. Our car broke down on the way home, and because it was a Sunday, we had no hope of making it home that day. We found River Inn on Yelp, and booked a room. It's an old building, be aware. It can get a little chilly, but we had two space heaters in our room, and only needed one. Being bummed about getting stranded wasn't great, but looking out our window at the falling snow on the hills was a pretty solid remedy. The rooms are decently sized, and the bathroom is large given the age of the building. We had a little deck at the edge of our hallway, and if it hadn't have been snowing and freezing, we would've sat and watched the river down below. In the morning, the owner saw us in the living room and gave us some great advice about the car shop. Wendy and Matt extends themselves and told us to call if we needed anything. They were super kind. Breakfast downstairs is provided, and there's also a great coffee place across the street. The inn is really centrally located, so if you need things downtown or need to catch the train, this is a great spot. We'd definitely stay here again, and hopefully under better circumstances. The good: great people, lovely rooms, cool building. The bad: room was pretty loud with passing traffic. Just ask for a room on the other side of the building, and problem solved. read more

A comfortable, yet romantic inn that is run by the nice and attentive owners (who live upstairs). The rooms and bathrooms are very clean with nice amenities. Since it's on the river, there's a nice backdrop of flowing water to fall asleep to. The nearby historic downtown has a great atmosphere, with some good restaurants and saloons. I did not like the place. For 200.00 a room, I was not impressed at all. The rooms are so small you barely can walk around the bed. There is no Air conditioning in rooms. Our room was at least 95 degrees.. we were up all night , the train blows the horn all night and its loud.. Its Right outside the window. The breakfast in the morning was old fruit and cereal. The back Patio over the river is small and filled with people drinking that are not guest so you cant ever find a seat out there unless you are waiting around to wait to grab a seat . I am sure that the bar is a good portion of the revenue so its nice that its busy, but I would never recommend to stay there. read more

We booked a room at the River Street Inn at the last minute. Prices were very reasonable! The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was very cute and we had a private bath. The restaurant they have down stairs is great! The entire inn is run by a sweet family. I found this place on line and booked it sight unseen. The Inn was cute and the owner was really nice when we got there. We got in late in the afternoon and went downtown for shopping and early dinner before going to bed. It was less than an hour before the train parade started. EVERY HOUR we had a massive frieght train go through blowing their ear splitting air horns. Needless to say no sleep. We looked for a differnt place but all were booked. I tried to get a small refund and they refused. They did put ear plugs in our room...did not help. The breakfast was a joke and thank god there was a diner across the street. NEVER AGAIN! read more

My husband and I have stayed here many times - since the inn first opened, in fact. Previously we'd stayed at the Truckee Hotel, across the tracks, and used to look longingly at this place, wishing someone would open it as a hotel. When Wendy Smith and Matt Brown did so, we gave it a try - and now never book anywhere else. The hotel is a piece of Truckee history, updated in a way that gives all the comfort of the modern age without sacrificing any of the charm. Location is awesome - right in the heart of shopping and dining and drinking of Old Truckee. You can hear the train when it goes by - but that's one of the reasons I love Truckee. Never been bothered by traffic noise or other guests. And Wendy and Matt treat us like family - they couldn't be nicer or better hosts. read more

My husband and I have been coming to this charming Inn for over 12 years now-First, the location is prime-You can walk to downtown Truckee and not have to deal with parking-Wonderful if you want to enjoy a few drinks too and not worry about driving :) The rooms are super cozy and comfortable with a rustic mountain charm. All very warm and comforting. Now, if you know anything about Truckee, you know it's on a major train line..and the Inn is right next to the railroad line-The union pacific comes through the night, but it's part of the charm of this historical town. If you are a light sleeper, ask the inn keepers to put you towards the back of the inn-they are VERY accommodating! :) The next major factor we love about the inn is that we can come up and stay for 2 days or 5 days-and during a major holiday, it's nice to be able to come and find a spot that fits with our pocket book. It's getting harder to find places that allow for a minimum stay and The River Street Inn is still doing this. The owners, Wendy and Matt are so kind and gracious and always make us feel like family when we visit. We couldn't say enough about this little gem! FREEEEEEEEeeeeeezing They are too cheap too turn on the heat when it was 0 degrees outside. Instead you get a small space heater in your closet. The lobby had no heat whatsoever. In addition, there is no insulation and wood floors without carpets so that you can hear every footstep walking up and down the hall and stairs. We booked this room to attend a wedding in the area. When we found out the wedding was off three days prior to our stay, we called to cancel only to be told that they have a seven-day cancellation policy and they couldn't make an exception. We decided to go ahead and make the trip up to get away for the night. Upon arrival, we had to use a phone by the front door to gain access to the building. We were given an access code and told they weren't there to check us in but would arrive momentarily. We waited ten minutes during which I rechecked the confirmation email I had received and found that check-in is only allowed between 4:00 and 8:00 pm. I had added to my reservation that we required a quiet room. When the owner finally got there to check us in, in his very casual skater clothes, he informed us our room was located directly off the lobby/breakfast room, which a quick glance at other reviews of this property show that this is the loudest location in the building. When I explained that I had specifically requested a quiet location for my sleep issues, he said he had nowhere else to put us. We ended up leaving, without staying and without a refund, after the owner went into painstaking detail about what it's like to be a small business owner. Sounds like they're in the wrong business. Truckee was jam packed for the weekend, and we even had trouble finding a place with a vacancy to begin with... This wouldn't have been our first choice otherwise. The owner could have easily re-rented the room, especially with the three days advance notice we gave them, if they had chosen to. read more

What a wonderful place!! My Husband and I have been coming here for years, and it's so nice to be treated with such hospitality and friendliness by the Owners every time. The rooms are nice and cozy and they have WiFi (huge plus). Also, they just opened 1882 Bar & Grill downstairs, and it has delicious food, a fun atmosphere, and great customer service. Note: To address the 1 and 2 star reviews.... You obviously don't understand small businesses and as a small business owner myself, I would have done everything they did. Don't give this family a hard time for your lack of research, impatience and poor planning! read more

Restaurant, full bar and historic Inn in the heart of Truckee overlooking the Truckee River. Unlike most lodging establishments in the area, River Street Inn is literally in downtown Truckee. Outdoor BBQ and deck overlooking the river was a real treat. Room was very clean, charming and well appointed. Morning coffee, oj, fruit, muffins. The staff is always very pleasant and will stay here again. read more

Used to stay here all of the time. Now that we've had some issues and the prices continue to go up... we don't make it our first choice. The great owners have not kept the place up and its just not as clean and hospitable as it used to be. read more

Solid 10! Wendy is awesome and super accommodating. I think "rustic charm" does this place little justice. It's really a well done renovation of a historic building. My daughter and I stayed in late August. The weather was perfect, we slept with the windows open. We will be back for sure. Bed was great and the train will be heard at any hotel nearby, not an issue. Food at the restaurant downstairs was really good too. read more

We came to Truckee on Amtrak and were delighted that there was a nice place to stay within an easy walk of the station. We only stayed one night, but felt very welcome and were very comfortable in our room. Loved the living room, we had the place to ourselves so we watched the news then read in the large comfortable seats the rest of the evening. The bed was a bit hard, but we have a select comfort at home so are spoiled in that department. the room we stayed in was totally handicap accessible complete with a large shower and a ramp to the street, which was a real plus for my cane using husband. The owners were charming and very willing to accommodate our needs, the coffee was hot and fresh for breakfast and the continental breakfast was more than adequate. We weren't bothered by the train sounds at all, it just added to the charm when we did hear it. We plan to visit again, can't get a better recommendation than that! read more

Although close to train tracks - this is, after all, Truckee - that didn't keep us from having a fabulous time. I came after Christmas with thirteen family members (ranging from 15 to 80 years of age), and we all had fun. Some went snowboarding nearby, some went and hung out at a local lodge, some went shopping, some stayed and played in the snow. It was incredible to find a central place that had a little bit of everything for everyone, and the Inn was so incredibly comfortable (not too hot, not too cold) and cozy and convenient that everyone had a great time. And when we all came back together here, we could assemble in the common area and play games, converse, or hang out on the comfortable furniture. Any time I hear someone's going to Tahoe or nearby, I'll recommend this place again and again. read more

Stayed here after taking the California Zephyr up, awesome train ride! The Inn is very near the train station, even with a lot of bags, it's an easy walk. A very cute place, lovely owners, breakfast was minimal, which is all I want anyhow. The trains didn't bother me at night, and I slept on a 'rollaway' mattress that was quite comfortable. I would happily go back here. read more
