We are currently here for only one night with our kids. Place is amazing so far. Awesome cozy little rooms that make you feel like you are in your own cabins . They basically are your own cabins with the fire place in each room and bunk beds for the kids. Very close to multiple ski resorts and very close to downtown truckee. Very clean, spacious and the guy I spoke with on the phone that manages the place is great to work with, I'm guessing he is the owner. Self check in with code at the doors to rooms make it easy. 10/10 recommend. Not a lot of snow right now but we will definitely be back with the family again next time we have a lot of snow. Possibly may even come back during summer to enjoy the lake. Price is reasonable, definitely worth every penny. read more

Great little place. Not like other BnBs, good privacy and on-suites. Cozy but well thought out rooms. More of a mini hotel with nice private grounds and a very nice grab and go breakfast. Loosing a star for the bed. I'm a side sleeper and my shoulder is throbbing. Thin, cheap, too firm mattress for 200lb me with shoulder issues. Will gladly come back after mattress upgrade. Awesome location right off 50 access road at lake level. Across from dope Truckee Ice Creamery. Beautiful walks in either direction. If you fish, bring your pole... Stay here if you want to be treated like family. Paul and Mindy were great hosts, who made us feel welcomed, cared for, and valued. They were very knowledgeable of the area as well, and we had a lot of success in following their recommendations for activities and eateries. The cozy little cabin rooms are just enough space, with comfortable accommodations (we stayed in the Moose Crossing room). The sleigh bed and gas fire kept us warm at night. We took a dip in the hot tub, which was so relaxing. The breakfast was delicious and the afternoon snack we got to enjoy with the hosts and other guests was a lot of fun. We did have to contend with quite a bit of snow during our stay, but they kept up with it as best as possible and we had no issues coming and going. I would highly recommend this place and we will absolutely be returning if we end up back this way. read more

A few weeks ago, my wife and I had a weekend totally free, which is an extremely rare occurrence for us, so we decided to escape the heat of the Sacramento Valley for a weekend. As I was looking for a place to stay, I came across the listing for the Dinner Lake Inn and was very interested, but the listing said we needed to check-in by 6 pm. And my wife wouldn't get home until that time and we would still have to drive a little over an hour to get there. So I was disappointed, but was able to find and book a hotel room in Truckee. The next day, I called the Donner Lake Inn to get some info on fishing the lake and mentioned that I was interested in a room they had available, but we wouldn't be able to make their check-in time and would probably wouldn't arrive until 8 pm. The kind voice on the other end of the phone was Mindy and she was more than accommodating for us, so I booked the room for 2 nights and was able to cancel the hotel. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly greeted by Paul, who showed us to our very cozy room and told us about breakfast in the morning and a Happy Hour in the afternoon. The room was so relaxed and comfortable feeling that all of our stress from the week instantly melted away. The tasty breakfasts that we were treated to each morning were expertly prepared by Mindy and Paul themselves. As a chef myself, I can fully appreciate the love and dedication they put into presenting us with such a pretty and delicious breakfast. We were fortunate to share the table (socially distanced, of course) with one other guest and had very pleasant conversation with him over breakfast. This was no run of the mill continental breakfast. After enjoying activities for the day and the splendor of the lake, we came back to the Inn for the Happy Hour and were served a nice glass of wine and some nibbles prepared by Mindy on their deck. No other guests came up and so we spent over 2 hours just chatting with Mindy and Paul like we were old friends. To say that we had an enjoyable stay at the Donner Lake Inn would be a huge understatement!!! It was such a pleasure to meet Mindy and Paul and have this charming couple welcome us into their home and treat us like family. We look forward to making a return trip soon!!! read more

Very nice B&B next to Donner Lake. We were glad we found this place for a weekend getaway with friends. Our room was very cozy, clean and comfortable. It was the perfect space for a family of four (2 adults, 2 children). You can walk to the beach from the Inn and a short drive takes you pretty much everywhere in the Donner/Truckee area. Paul and Mindy, the innkeepers are very friendly and you can see their passion to receive and help their guests. The breakfast is excellent. We will sure come back! read more

Very impressed with their adherence to Covid guidelines. They've reduced the number of rooms available to allow thorough cleaning between visits including minimum 24 hour vacancy in each room. Hosts and guest wearing masks, except when guests are eating. Plenty of space between tables (30 feet for breakfast). Hosts are constantly cleaning contact surfaces: doorknobs, banisters, etc. We are older and in a high risk group, so we appreciated their diligent efforts to protect everyone. Food is still excellent and it was great to spend a few days in the land of the tall pines and beautiful Donner Lake. Managed to find a boat rental in Donner State Park and rented a canoe for several hours each day. Even the staff at the boat rental followed Covid guidelines, sanitizing life jackets and paddles. Bottom line: A great B&B in a beautiful location that is working hard to keep guests stay safe while enjoying the great outdoors. read more

The room was immaculate and comfortable with well crafted fishing related decorations. Mindy and Paul were welcoming, warm and helpful. Their gourmet breakfasts were delicious. A winter wonderland getaway! Thank you to Paul and Mindy for the hospitality . This B&B was amazing and will definitely be coming back soon. Even though covid regulations were still implemented we still feel like we got the full experience. The room that we choose was Bear's Lair and it is exactly as described and shown on the website but much bigger/very spacious. The beautiful room has a window that you can't not stop starting out of , it has such a beautiful view. Breakfast was amazing and definitely kept us full for the morning, Paul was able to bring us coffee and our "to go" breakfast to the room. The room was also very cozy and the heater definitely kept us warm at night. We also took a morning walk and 5 min down we were able to see Donner Lake it was breathtaking! Downtown truckee is only 15 min or less away from the B&B and it has some really good restaurants we got to enjoy for dinner. I can't wait to go back soon, we shared our experience with our family and friends they are also exited too stay here soon ! read more

Couldn't have asked for more. Called up to make reservations and in the course of the conversation, I mentioned that the trip was a birthday get away. She asked how I'd heard about them, and I told her I'd seen the reviews of her cinnamon bread french toast here on yelp. When we arrived... she was baking fresh cinnamon bread for our breakfast the next morning, and made me an extra loaf to take home as a birthday present! My friend and I are both lactose adverse, and she made everything for us with soy (despite having 4 other lactose friendly guests). Steaming cups of hot cocoa and homemade peanut butter cookies in the afternoon after a long day snow shoeing were a welcome site. As was the electric pot bellied stove in our cozy room by the creek. I had the hot tub all to myself that night under the trees and snow. Amazing place, convenient to Royal Gorge, Tahoe Donner, and a short hop from Squaw. Praying for snow so I can go back and visit Mindy and the Inn at least once more before the season ends! read more

This is a four-star review of a great little b&b right on the shores of Donner Lake and right off the freeway. We loved the location, the clean room, chocolates and robes in the room, the burning gas stoves keeping the rooms toasty, and the delightful breakfasts each morning. There's also a hot tub and a comfortable lounge to play games and enjoy an afternoon snack. Everything was quite comfortable, and the hosts Mindy and Paul are extraordinarily attentive. In fact, our only concern was that perhaps they're just a tad too attentive, and perhaps there are just a few too many rules. This place will shine and this will be a 5-star review once the hosts relax just a little bit. If you don't want us to set foot in the kitchen nook in the lounge, rope it off, rather than reminding us three times per day not to set foot in the kitchen; the hot tub has random hours it's on- and off-limits, so we never got to use it; the lounge and living room too is off-limits much of the day. I think this place will truly be excellent once the hosts have been doing this a few more years and relax just a little bit, which will let guests relax a little bit more. As it is, it feels a little like the hosts are babysitting you. Not a bad thing, just something to be aware of. ps: I have bumped this review up to 5 stars as a snow storm blew in and we couldn't leave as planned. Mindy and Paul are sooo super sweet. I would highly recommend you staying at this B&B if you are going to be at the Sugar Bowl. or any of the other resorts around the area. Mindy makes these amazing brownie cookies. OMG soooo good. YOU must ask her to make you some. I was there with my hubby and friend and they left us chocolates and water. How cute? And she took photos of us without being asked. Super nice! We had spinach and pepper frittatas with her fresh herbs and biscuits, melt in your mouth biscuits. The best place we've ever stayed at! Donner Lake Inn is minutes away from West End Beach - the starting point for the sprint triathlon we were participating in. Breakfast is served every day at 8 am by the superstar Chef Mindy. Although our race went from 7:30-9, Mindy was kind enough to keep our breakfast warm. The scrumptious egg souffle, home fries, sausage, and homemade biscuit and was the perfect feast after our race. We stayed at the Bear's Lair - it was very clean and home-y and every room has their own bathroom. Our family took a mid-week getaway here in November, right after an early snow in the Sierras. Due to the owner's Covid protocols, we had the Inn to ourselves, and had a safe, relaxing, enjoyable visit. Hosts Mindy and Paul provide clean rustic rooms, great breakfasts, and tested local trail/activities/restaurant recommendations. A charming Inn nestled in the woods across from Donner Lake, with the most gracious and hospitable hosts, Paul and Mindy! The rooms are very comfortable and overlook the creek, and provide a lovely resting place after all the activities at Donner Lake and surroundings. Breakfasts were delicious and thoughtful in the presentation and the variety, and the attention to any dietary needs. Also, Paul and Mindy provide an afternoon snack on the deck overlooking the creek (with a peek at the lake!) and are most engaging, making us feel most welcome. They were entirely careful with all sanitation during this challenging COVID time, and we felt safe in this regard. They provide outdoor couches and comfortable chairs by the creek for lounging, and we thoroughly enjoyed these too. We will return! read more

My husband and kids had driven up to ski at Boreal this past Saturday but got caught in the snow storm. The normally 4 hour drive turned into a 9 hour traffic standstill nightmare. They still had 25 miles to go to get to their original lodging site so my husband had me call hotels in the area to find any last minute cancellations. I was losing hope when Paul from Donner Lake Inn answered the phone on the 2nd ring and told me that he did indeed have a room available for them (hooray!). It was 8pm when I made the first call. My family was only 4 miles away but traffic was so bad that they still hadn't moved. I called Paul again at 9:15pm to let them know what was going on. He was so gracious about waiting up for them and told me not to worry about inconveniencing them. Considering that Donner Lake Inn is a bed and breakfast run by 2 people and that normal check-in time was between 4pm and 6pm, I am extremely grateful that they were willing to go above and beyond. My family finally arrived at 10pm and were taken to their cabin which was already nice and toasty because Paul and Mindy had turned on the heat when I made the reservation. The next morning brought blueberry pancakes and bacon. Paul and Mindy even took pictures of my family and emailed them to me. They also sent a loaf of delicious banana chocolate chip bread with them so they could have something to snack on for the trip home! In a world where most people are just out to make a buck, Paul and Mindy's personalized attention and sweet nature definitely stood out! Big thanks to them for helping make my son's first snow experience a great success. We will definitely stay here again! read more

We just got back from a two night stay here. One of the best B&B experiences I have had. Mindy was super nice, made us feel so welcome. She makes awesome breakfast, especially the cinnamon bread pudding. There was a complimentary glass of wine, tea, cookies etc offered each evening. We spent a long time chatting with her. Rooms are cozy and beds are comfortable. We got vouchers for tubing at soda springs, the purpose of our visit. Our dinner plans at Zanos on the second night ended in disaster but Mindy was kind enough to offer pies, bananas and a glass of milk for my son so we did not sleep hungry. She even gave us muffins for the road the day we left. Superb service. The hot tub in the back is awesome too, right next to a creek. Definitely going back here if we go to Tahoe again. read more

Paul and mindy. Where to start? My son and I had an impromptu getaway and lucky us. We landed here. Mindy greeted us at our car. Every detail is thought out. Evening wine and homemade cookies and drinks for my 6 yo. They had a menu to our new favorite dinner spot, and board games to play. Everything spotless, from the spa, to the bathrobes. Beds are comfy, and free wifi. Breakfast, omg. Fresh fruit with mint garnish, bacon, and brioche french toast with berry syrup, regular maple for the kiddo and she customized the menu to make us happy. Clearly they have both raised kids. We were welcomed with hot cocoa/coffee. The room had a nice (electric)wood stove that made us feel like we were in a log cabin but with all the comforts- plenty of blankets, pillows, toiletries, wifi, tv, etc. As mentioned by other reviewers, the breakfast was magnificent-we had fresh juice, cocoa/coffee, bacon, blueberry frittata, potatoes- all homemade and baked/cooked to perfection.
