He chatted with me about my options and was very nice, writing in perfect English. He even sent me some links and answered all my questions in detail. Thanks, Jay!!! Lost a bag with my keys and license in it so was concerned about someone finding both. I contacted Lockbusters through the form on their website and heard back quickly. Sent a photo on my locks and easily had a quote and appointment set. But, then I had a knock on the door at 1am with the person who found my things returning them. He said that he didn't have the keys but had gotten in the front building door (claimed it was unlocked). Small chance he was a very odd do-gooder, large chance he was casing out the place. Freaked out, I reached back out to Jay and he was able to come that day (a Sunday) instead of the next for the appointment. Replacing the cylinders within our two old locks he used his own screws and a spare pieces to make our old locks more secure. I had actually meant to only query businesses in Brooklyn, but I think Yelp caused me to inadvertantly message other locksmiths, and I'm glad they did, because Jay texted right away asking for photos, and once I sent the photos he called me and walked me through my options. Both of our locks needed some work, and we were in contact with Jay several times while deciding on various options. Jay is a knowledgeable locksmith. He impressed me immediately when i called for service. I needed my front door lock repaired or replaced. He asked for pics of lock and informed me he didn't have those parts. Instead of trying to sell me something else, he offered to look for those parts. He came out and tried to repair the lock and when he couldn't he found a distributor for my lock. Jay acquired the needed parts through some difficulty and time getting the middleman to respond even after the part came in. He came back out and replaced the broken part making sure it worked well. It works smoothly and properly. Jay was always polite and so apologetic for the time it took. I am so grateful that i got to keep my beautiful lock. This young man operates in an old time style - respond to customer's calls and wishes, do it efficiently, do it as quickly as possible, and the customer is always right! His rates were reasonable and he took on a lot of the time costs himself feeling badly that it took a longer than would have. Alright, so I'm typically skeptical about businesses on Yelp that have stellar reviews. WHAT'S THE CATCH? Originally I sent in a request for a quote to another business on Yelp but then saw that most folks were one-shot reviewers. When I saw Lockbusters, I messaged Jay and within minutes he responded on Yelp. I needed someone to open up a lock on a vacated storage unit in my building and needed someone sooner than later and early (9am on a Friday morning). He asked for pictures to assess, and I skipped out on a Mets game after dinner to make sure I could get home and respond in an expedient manner.* Sent the picture, Jay AGAIN responded quickly. [Thanks, Jane!] One frantic phone call to Lockbusters and Jay arrived with superhero speed: within 20 minutes. Jay was able to open the lock immediately, take apart the pieces, and explain to us what the problem was. (Something about how the lock components weren't laying flat like a sandwich and it's like when the beef patty falls out of a hamburger. I don't really understand what that means but that's why people don't call me in the middle of the night to bust open their locks.) Not only did Jay fix the lock, he's this cool, young guy who was not creepy and really cute--so cute that none of us minded one bit that a stranger had crashed our late-night house party and was making loud mechanical noises in the entranceway. The door at my daughters apartment was a disaster, yet he made it work. He saved us money because the guts of one of the locks was actually already installed by the landlord, only needed a new cylinder... know many locksmiths who would do that? I know one.. HIRE HIM MOM and DAD! Worst sound to hear is that loud "THUD" when your apt door closes and you realize you left your keys inside....at 12:30 AM on a weeknight....with only 3% of battery left on your phone. Doing a frantic search for locksmiths before my phone died, my mind was put at ease when I saw the stellar reviews for Lockbusters. One call to Jay's service and he phoned me back promptly, I explained my situation (and that my phone battery might give out) and he gave me an estimate and said he'd be at my building within 30 minutes. Twenty-six minutes later I see Jay pull up in his SUV and greet me with tools in hand.
