Beauty Bar - Leah is great with bright blondes

Beauty Bar is conveniently located on Central Avenue. I love that it has apothecary in the name…read more The people are pleasant, the space is nice, and they offer a wide variety of services. Today I received a facial, lat month a pedicure, and previously a massage.

Leah is amazing! She may not have some of the experience of some of the other stylist at beauty…read morebar, but she is talented and she LISTENS! I booked with her on a whim. I live in the neighborhood and was tired of driving 45 minutes to get my hair done. I keep my hair bright platinum blonde. As I get older, it gets harder for my hair to pull without damage or brassiness. She did better than my blonding specialist that I payed twice as much for. The salon itself is locally owned, clean, comfortable and has a great neighborhood vibe. They offer a ton of services including massage, headspa, nail services and more. I couldn't be happier with Leah. A few of the other stylists can be a bit overbearing- but I think they are just trying to "help" a less experiences stylist. Because she's fresh to the game she has a very different approach to her clients. I know my hair. I hate when I go to a new "experienced" stylist and they assume they know how to lift and tone my hair. They refuse to listen, and I either leave with purple gray hair or orange tiger stripes. Leah listens, and actually got the specific charcoal bleach that has been a godsend for my course, curly, stubborn hard to lift hair. If you want a high-end quality salon experience without the high-end quality salon price, She is a great way to get in and get the same experience without the insane price tag. I tried beauty bar a few years ago and was a bit underwhelmed with the experience and overwhelmed at the price. I'm so glad I came back after seeing her work on some local community sites and contacting her on FB. She got me in quickly and this is my third trip back. I waited until I had a few encounters to leave a detailed review. I hope this helps anyone looking for a new go-to spot for self care.

I booked a couple's massage as a gift for my husband with the intent for both of us to start out…read morerelaxed for a date night. I gave some stars as he had an excellent massage and that was the top priority for me. I did not know the therapists we booked with ahead of time, so had no expectation of the type of message we would receive. His therapist asked us both if we had an area to focus on and we both voiced that our shoulders could use some extra attention. He received this extra attention, so relieved he was heard. My massage was more like a gentle skin rub and very repetitive. There was no focus on a specific muscle. I would not give a poor review based on this as maybe that was her style. My only other critique during the message would have been that she did not communicate much. When directed to turn over onto my stomach the only direction I received was "I am going to lift this thing". I thought this was odd (if it was my first message that would have been confusing and uncomfortable), but I instinctively knew what she meant. Just odd. I thought maybe she was new. We were ready to leave and felt good about the experience for my husband and had no opinion of my own message experience. This is when my opinion changed. As I was walking out of the restroom, I saw the therapist that had just finished my message visibly upset with her hand over her face. Another therapist was rubbing her back and she said " I am just feeling so sick". This is when I became very uncomfortable and left. It was the only time I have ever left a message less relaxed than when I arrived! Needless to say, not the relaxing start to our date night. I couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling. I called the manager. He said he would speak to her. I have to give credit in that he at least called back and left a voicemail. He did confirm that she was unwell but pulled herself together to take another client. He assured me not to worry that she showed no sign of fever or knowledge of contagious illness to worry about. I would have more respect if this was handled professionally. I feel she should have communicated this prior to the message and left me the decision to opt out or for her to say she was not feeling able to give a suitable message based on how she felt. Instead, she just put me in a position of her going through the motions and after hearing how she felt, I in turn felt bad for her working through that honestly. I should not have been placed in that position. It was very unprofessional for a client to witness. Based on this experience, I don't have trust to return. It's one thing for a message to fall short of a desired expectation, but another to feel like a burden and to be given a poor follow up on an uncomfortable situation that would have been more relaxing if it never happened. Update: I appreciate the response from Dietra, Serenity Owner, acknowledging that my experience was not suitable, as it was not. In fact, the manager's voicemail response indicated that the therapist was lightheaded and nauseous during. Again, I stand by that a professional approach with client experience in mind would have been to communicate that she was unwell, regardless of what, and a poor experience for all avoided.

"No Frown Lines, No Horror Stories--Leslie is the GOAT!"…read more I'll be honest: I have injector trust issues. Like full-on Botox PTSD. Between being called a manchild at a med spa in Chicago, being so over-injected I looked like an a wax figurine at Madame Tussauds , and one charming injector who basically stubbed out their cigarette before coming at me with a needle (washing hands apparently optional), let's just say I was skeptical. Enter Nurse Leslie at Bella Via Med Spa. From my first appointment she immediately put me at ease, which is saying something since I'm usually gripping the chair like I'm on a rollercoaster. She doesn't try to upsell me after I mention I'm literally only comfortable with the bare minimum. No pressure to get a whole menu of treatments I don't want, and actually listens. She wipes me down with alcohol swabs to satisfy my inner germaphobe before administering my favorite poison (Botox, not actual poison, though let's be real, it kind of is). She's precise without being in a rush, presses on the injection sites to reduce any instant sting, and hasn't hit a nerve (figuratively or literally) once. Best of all? A couple weeks later, my forehead is smoother than a baby's bottom, without that frozen "NPC in a video game" look. If you're in Toledo and want to keep your facial expressions (but not your frown lines) in check, Leslie is the best.
