Instead of the usual katsu sauce, I asked if I could have the ginger sauce instead since I'd seen other places offer it. They said yes, and let me tell you... it was a game changer! If you're a ginger lover like me, definitely give it a try. With the coupon, both plates came out to $14.xx. Pretty affordable if you ask me. The chicken katsu was hot, crispy, and a generous portion. The garlic chicken came out fresh and delicious too. Plates come with Mac salad or toss greens with their pink homemade sweet dressing. It actually tastes pretty good, too. I always call my order in ahead of time because I don't like waiting, and every single time I arrive, my food is already ready. We usually just pick it up and eat there, and the service has always been quick and friendly. One tip: Yelp listed them as closing at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, but I called just to make sure since hours can change, and they actually closed at 8:30 p.m., which gave us plenty of time to pick up our food and eat. The only downside is there isn't a restroom inside the restaurant. They'll give you a code to use the restroom behind the shopping center, or you can walk to Safeway. If you use the one behind the mall, I'd recommend going with someone, especially at night, since that area can sometimes attract a few sketchy people. $30 small pans can't beat that price nowdays! This week I got chicken katsu to take to a potluck. It was overcooked, tasteless & hard to cut (even they couldn't slice it good). Super crunchy and buggah didn't wanna budge while my teeth tried to rip it. I've also gotten the mochiko chicken pans which usually have a good mix of ono and lil overcooked. When ordering the garlic chicken pans they don't give enough sauce to coat the chicken so it's not even like eating garlic chicken. Its really ono on the pieces that actually have sauce on it tho I don't know why they do that, anyone cooking & prepping can obviously see if there's sauce on a dish that's supposed to have it. But the front staff is always so nice & like i said $30 small pans can't beat when you in a rush or watching your funds. So I'll add one more star for service & price, but won't buy the katsu again. Props to Loco Moco for thriving all these years. When Kapolei had practically nothing 30-years ago, this was the go to place. This location had been our family caterer for the fist 5-years, 1995-2000 and beyond. I was craving a chicken katsu plate earlier in the day and since I needed to do some grocery shopping, so I decided to come here. Staff is very friendly. Price is good. Not too long after, my mini plate arrived. States off with the Mac salad and it was tasty, while the chicken katsu satisfied the craving. It's a tiny location with a few 4-seater tables available. Plenty of people walking in to take out while a few of us stayed to dine in. While waiting for dinner, I saw one of the staff members wrapping up a small platter for take out and it reminded me of when we would order our family take out here. Brought back fond memories. I ordered for delivery and that is always a lil nerve wracking cause u never know what ur going to get. I was very pleasantly surprised when my food got here. I ordered the chicken katsu to share with my mom and my dad got the bbq mixed plate. When I opened the container I was like woah!! Nice portions!!! I took a bite of my katsu (side order of curry) and I was like dang!! One of the best chicken katsu I've had! Also the curry was incredible! We decided use a coupon from a circular received in mail for buy one entree receive second for free. It is a great deal, purchased the Kailua pork and cabbage plate lunch and a chicken plate lunch free. Both came with rice and Mac, I ordered green salad instead. The pork and chicken were Ono, and have enough for husband I I to have lunch on left overs. All this for less than 17.00. The ordering was easy at counter, staff member very friendly. The Buy-one-get-one plate lunch coupon from the midweek paper is what got me in and I'm glad I used/turned it in. The teriyaki sauce was very sweet. The chicken, vegetables and eggplant on par with my expectations for this kind of place. The Mac salad however was bland. Portioning was just average. Beautiful large Hawaiian mural on wall and nostalgic photos. Lots of seating. Seems pretty clean. Service was good. Cashier greeted me, said Thank you after paying, asked me if I wanted my soda now. We found a BOGO free plate lunch deal for Loco Moco Drive Inn in Midweek and couldn't resist clipping it. We got the Pork Lau Lau and Mochiko Chicken Regular Plate. Both were decent plate lunches, and the BOGO deal made it even better. The Pork Lau Lau had the right amount of pork and salt. Sometimes other places make it too salty, but this one was just right and cooked perfectly. The Mochiko Chicken was a little overcooked, but still good. I stopped by Loco Moco- Kapolei on my way home. I was craving Mochiko Chicken. It's like a hit or miss. It's either good or not good. I ordered a special combo plate. The nice guy said that it was cheaper than purchasing two plates. I ordered the sweet and sour Spareribs with white rice & Mac Salad for Hubby. I got the Mochiko Chicken on the side for me. They cook it while you wait. The restaurant is small but spacious enough that you some feel crowded. When the server brought me my order, it smelled sooooo good. I couldn't wait. I immediately grabbed a piece of chicken to eat right then. Seasoned perfectly, hot as ever. Just delicious. I truly believed that I had eaten all my Mochiko chicken on my drive home to the North Shore. There was 1 piece left for Zeus. Last night for take out I ordered a regular loco moco and opted for the free garlic chicken. The loco moco is good. My son loves their gravy. I don't ever get garlic chicken from places so I'm glad I went with garlic chicken last night. The garlic chicken had good flavor and the batter wasn't so crispy where it hurts the roof of your mouth. Love that although the chicken plate is free they don't skimp on the food. The service was less than friendly too. People were fairly regularly coming in so hopefully our order was a one off. Decent amount of seating too. The size of these things are enormous. I'm normally not stuffed after a single serving, but this place gives sooo much food. Wow. Just terrible. The old Loco Moco is no more. Menu has changed, prices gone up. For awhile now, they have been featuring a BOGO offer in the Midweek.
