Kamakana Ali'i has many great food options but I Love Korean BBQ is definetly one of the top contenders in the most unique and flavorful places to go to in this mall. (Ambiance) Whilst walking through the food court I realized most of the stores didn't really have a eye popping appeal like this resturant had. The pictures of the food on the TV's immediately caught my attention and lured me into the store. The place looked clean and the music filled the room (Food) In the store there were many drink options to choose from and they even have a fridge full of almost all monster energy drink flavors. I think out of all the stores in the food court they had the most diverse amount of drinks to choose from. Going there and getting the Spicy Pork and Meat jun it was very flavorful they are must try items. The sides picked in the front were so many to choose from, also placed with so much care by the worker in the front. (Service) The worker in the front was very kind and helpful and they were able to help me with what are some of the popular items to get. The service was fast and was cooked to order. Came here for the first time. They were closing within 45mins. We ordered the bbq chicken and meat jun combo, kalbi and poke combo, and the mini kalbi. Food tasted pretty good except the poke. It looks decent, but tastes old and mushy. The sides were ok. We tried to order the garlic chicken, but they told me they put it away. I noticed the staff had intentionally left the phone on dead tone so they don't receive phone calls because it was a bit busy within the store. I told them about the phone originally because I could hear it and he did correct it until the phones started ringing again. Then I seen him purposely leave it on. Staff are friendly, but with the putting away of the food too early and not answering their phones is pretty mind blowing. This is a counter-service Korean restaurant. I got the bip bim bop, which was just okay. Loved the variety of vegetables and size, but the flavor was lacking for a bipbimbop that's $18.50. Located in the kamakana alii mall food court. I ordered the spicy pork and it was terrible. The food does not seem like it is marinated. The pork seemed like they grilled plain meat and slathered sauce onto it. It was bland. The sides... the long rice had no taste and I knew it before even trying it, color was so light compared to most Korean spots. Everything was just bland. Ka Makana Ali'i shopping center has a lot of great places to eat, wish we had more of these great grinds on the Windward side. The food (I got the kali bi) was good, the meat was tender and tasty. The service was absolutely horrible! There's a line to order, wait to select your banchan and then wait for your food. On this day that I visited, there was only 2 guys working the front, 1 guy running the register and 1 guy plating the banchan so meticulous on the plate that it was an art work (not joking) - even the boss lady in the back scolded this guy for how he plated the banchan . These days it's so hard to find workers, let alone good workers, I hope this lady who looked the the owner remembers that. the banchan selection was great and tasty, it's a small take out place with no tables for dine in but lots of tables outside. I must have waited 45 mins for my Kalbi plate. Would like to return this place when I'm in the area, but the service would give me a second thought. read more

The rice portion was also much smaller than expected -- not even half of the takeout container. I do appreciate that the vegetables were packed generously like always -- thank you for that -- but overall the portion and quality just didn't match the price this time. The place is clean and well kept. No concerns with food handling that I observed. They do need more front end help. There was only one girl in front that was both cashier and helping to place the sides selections into the plate. Given it was lunch time they had phone or prior orders needing to be filled. So we waited a bit before she could take our order. She was trying her best and was kind and courteous. That isnt her fault. And I know everywhere is struggling to staff these days. There were multiple people in the back. Someone could have come forward to help her. She was struggling as the line grew. I felt for her. We got the K special. The teri beef was good. Cooked just right. Good flavor. The Teri chicken was way overcooked and salty. And I like salty things. As my mom says, if I say it is salty, its like licking salt. Kalbi was ok. The sides.. we got taegu, fishcake, and 2x mayo potatoes bc my son likes the garlic potatoes he gets at Yummy's so he figured it would be similar. The taegu is a premium item so you can't get 2 of it (we tried) and they give little bit of it compared to the other items. Other items they are pretry generous. Taegu was ok. Fishcake was ok. The potatoes... I do not know why or how they got frozen but they were frozen in the middle... my son said his piece was frozen as well which was bizarre to me. They make their stuff so far in advanced them freeze them then thaw out before serving?? Due to having been frozen the potatoes did not have a creamy mouth feel. It squished when you bit into it then you hit frozen icicles on the inside and seemed fluid overloaded as the ice was still melting inside. Which made the mayo sauce it was in runny. Very weird textures for red potatoes. That really threw me off. It also came with two deep fried gyozas. Those were good. My son ate one before I could get a pic. I was rather disappointed. I Love Korean BBQ is a fast casual spot in Kapolei's Ka Makana Aliʻi food court area. Local style Korean food means meat jun and a line of banchan side dishes that you can pile up in your plate lunch. Here you can get your plate lunch in either their mini size or regular. I think that the regular size is enough to share between two people - especially with a choice of 4 of their banchan sides. The sauces here are really good too and they have them in big squeezable bottles at the end of the counter- some spots charge extra for it but here you can load up as much sauce as you want! The service is friendly and quick here. You order at the register and then they give you a ticket with a number on it. Don't lose that ticket- they will ask for it again when you pick up your food! And while they're cooking your food in the back, you get to go through the banchan line and pick all the side dishes you want. I recently got their regular meat jun plate with kimchi cucumber, japchae, shoyu potato, and fish cake (어묵볶음). I personally like a more 50/50 meat to batter ratio with the egg being a bit more fluffy but the meat jun here is pretty good! read more

First time trying this eatery located in the Kamakana Alii Mall foodcourt. There's tough competition here but after today, I Love Korean BBQ has won me over. I walked into the foodcourt hungry for lunch and couldn't decide what to eat right away. Wanting to try something new this was the perfect place and one of the few in the foodcourt I haven't yet tried. With a casual to go ambiance, it was nice and easy to quickly pick a plate to try with a huge variety. The service was quick despite it just being Jay at the counter who took my order payment veggies (choice of two) for a mini Fish Jun plate & did all the communication and order pick ups from the cooks. With a line that formed quickly behind he worked very hard and efficiently and soon everyone was waiting for their food. The Fish Jun plate was delicious and I especially loved the Kim chee which was very authentically spicy. I'm a huge Korean plate foodie and this definitely satisfied my cravings. I recently visited this Korean takeout place where I noticed an interesting situation. The owner, a Korean lady with brown-blonde hair, was scolding her cashier to call out orders and add the banchan sides. However, he was already overwhelmed handling a long line of customers placing orders. She mentioned that the food was ready in the back, but instead of just giving directions, it would have been more helpful if she came to the front to assist her employees. It was clear that they were overwhelmed, and a bit more teamwork from the owner would have greatly helped manage the rush. I hope Andrei and Caleb, the two hardworking employees, get to keep their well-deserved tips. My friend and I were so hungry.. we decided to come here instead of the other establishments.. Got a combo kalbi and meat Jun plate for almost $30. Got the greens, the beans sprouts and the potatoes with mayo. The meat was amazing, I can tell you that. Took a bite of the potato and it was like par boiled, so I went back inside to see if I could get a replacement for it. So he went to see if he can ask the owner I believe, so she came out and I told her the same thing as what I already told the worker. Her reply was, "I'm here 7days a week and I never had any complaint lol. Which was really funny because I just looked her up on yelp and her rating are low. She then took a knife and poked one of the potato to prove me wrong, It's unbelievable that she did that, I'm a customer, I'm giving her feedback. .. I Oh I just want to add this on. When you first walk into the store you see a whole variety of monsters and reign to choose from, vegetables full of color, and a very unique selection of food compared to the other stores around the Kamakana Alii food court. From my experiences there was always very professional and stunning plating done by the people in the front. I've never seen a plate place care so much about the presentation of their plates, the little things like how the sides look on the plate is what separates good food from amazing food and this place from any ordinary plate place. My family and I have been coming here for YEARS and decided to use their catering for a house warming party. Let me just start by saying that they absolutely exceeded our expectations and all of our guests loved the food. We got a kalbi pan, mandoo and nori spring rolls, chicken katsu, meat Jun, and a wide array of banchan pans for our vegetarian and vegan friends. We also got the japchae pan which comes with beef and extras compared to what they usually have on their veggie display. We used their online website to place our order but they request you place catering orders ahead of time which is what we did. We also paid extra to have plastic trays for the banchan instead of foil pans. I was walking through the food court and had seen someone eating a plate of bi bim kook soo and thought that it looked really good especially since I hadn't had it for a long time. I needed dinner and decided to stop in and order a plate for myself. I ordered takeout. I opened up the plate and was impressed at the presentation but once I took a bite, I was very disappointed. The flavor was very very bland and all I could taste was spice. The spice did not bother me, but the fact that it was just spice and no salt or any other flavor was sooooo disappointing. Not even the kimchee, other veggies, or beef helped it. The kim chee was also bland and the beef barely had any flavor either. It was so bad that I could not eat it and only tried to eat some of the topping which did not help. It looked really good but it did not taste anything like it looked. I had to throw it away. The service on the other hand was good. The employee who helped me was nice and the restaurant was clean. If you're expecting a hefty korean plate lunch that'll feed you two meals or two people like other places (Gina's, Yummy's), this isn't it. I ordered the $21.50 meat jun + fish jun plate combo. The container used was the mini size plate that other places use, so the veges were just 1 tong amount (bean sprouts, chop chae), 4 cucumber slices, 4 shoyu potatos, 4 brocollis (got no rice so extra vege instead). They can use a smaller container to make the food amount look fuller, but it really doesn't fool anyone. The meats were even less... 1 piece fish jun and 1 meat jun. That's it! I can't imagine how small the mini is. I wonder what a regular single choice plate would've been. For a combo plate, I expect more meat than a regular plate. On the plus side, the meat jun was tasty (and i think they add a little sugar because the outside has a slight crisp and sweetness). The fish jun had no flavor but good texture. Tasty gyoza. I still rate 3 stars because it's clean, good service, good vege choices, fairly quick, and taste decent. Just way too pricey for the quantity of food. read more

This used to be a great place to order at. I ordered a bibimbap this evening and paid over $18. It's a good thing we decided to eat in the mall. When I opened my plate, I received an equivalence of 3T of rice. I returned to the counter to show them the amount of rice in my dish and requested for additional rice. I was told that if I wanted more rice, I would have to pay for extra scoops. The owner came out and created a plate to show me what two scoops of rice. I showed her the amount of rice in my plate. She asked me if I wanted more rice. I said yes. She gave me an equivalence of two more scoops. I don't even want to share the rest of the story. The owner, doesn't care about the quality of their plate, about customer service (when I was leaving, I turned around and just so happen to see her mocking me) and she scolded her employees in front of me. I would give them a zero but it's not an option. We dine out frequently and try to support local eateries. I do know that I will never come back to I Love Korean BBQ ever again and will share my story with everyone I know. All of this for less than two scoops of rice. The spicy pork and meat jun are one of their best dishes along with the creamy potato (mayo, garlic, and sugar) is my usual order. The workers always make the vegetables neat and organized. The service is also really quick too! They always have music playing and pictures of every side and choices of protein on the TV. Overall 10/10 would come again! read more

We placed an order online for a small tray of kalbi, small tray of meat jun, and 4-choice vegetable tray. The meat jun's meat is cut thin and the egg around is not greasy. I'd say theirs is one of the best. The kalbi, is a bit more chewy than I would like but my two-year-old (who doesn't have all her teeth yet) has no problem eating it. They also offer a large variety of vegetable sides to choose from. We got the choi sum, long rice, bean sprouts, and sweet potatoes which are THE BEST I've had. Coated in a sweat Korean sauce and garnished with green onions. There is ample parking as it is located in Ka Makana Alii and 15-minute stalls for takeout orders.
