In my opinion, this is one of the better local Mexican restaurants. It's almost always slammed for lunch. I was able to sneak in today with my wife and her friend. I normally get the nachos or the shrimp burrito but I decided to try the tacos today. I had a shrimp taco and a carne asada taco and they were both very good. I love their street tacos now. As we walked in, we were pleasantly greeted by the staff You order at the front bar area, you'll get a number and then when your food is ready, they will call your number and it's time to enjoy your goodies! I stopped by for dinner when I found myself in Tallahassee on business. I had been here previously a few years ago and remembered that I thought it was good. Well, after this visit, I hope that it was just an off night and not the current quality of this establishment. I ordered the burrito, which was the Thursday night special at only $5.99. I also ordered a carnitas street taco. The special was only on chicken or beef, so I opted on the chicken. It would have been great had they offered all the options, but it is understandable. My food was ready in a pretty quick manner and this is where it started to decline. The taco was ok, nothing special, but the burrito was comparable to something you would get at Taco Bell. It was bland almost to the point of flavorless. Truly disappointing. Plus, the burrito was a bit small. Again, a decent price, but if it was a small burrito, was it worth it? Will I try Loco's Taco & Bar again? Honestly, I don't know. It was good and my hopes would be that it was just an off night. My Wife and I are dealing with a newborn so with the free time I've had, I ain't really been on Yelp. Time to go ahead, though, and drop a few reviews before 2021 ends........and we'll start here.... Well, CLEARLY I'm in the minority of people who ain't feeling this place. I visited THREE. TIMES. JUST to make sure I wasn't missing out on something that everyone else may have experienced. At this point, I don't believe I did. I often mention how I'm from Louisiana mainly because when you grow up in Cajun Country, your taste buds are nurtured with seasonings. Lots of seasonings. The result of that is not enjoying food that isn't as seasoned as what we receive back home while others may think what they're eating is the bomb. I feel for those who didn't grow up on the intense flavors we did. lol As I stated, I've hit up Locos Tacos & Bar on three different occasions. I was disappointed on every rep. I've tried tacos, tortas, burritos......nothing. The food wasn't bad........it was all bland as hell. I had to add so much salt and pepper to ALL the meat. That should never be the case. The only thing I enjoyed was the queso. And not only that but one time I came during the summer and it was sweltering! I even took a picture of the thermostat so y'all can see just how hot it was inside during a FLORIDA summer. I'm not here to discourage any of you from peeping Los Tacos & Bar. 3.5 stars but that's not allowed so I go up. All the food is a la carte. I had street tacos and the flavor was good. Not amazing. But good. The green sauce and spicy red sauce saved it. Same with the burritos. Pretty tasty. Guacamole needed more flavor but we added salt so that helped. Cheese dip is good and has a nice kick. Parton margarita was on point. The best street tacos I've had since leaving SoCal! I've had Locos Tacos in my bookmarks to try for ages and finally made the jump recently. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG! Seriously, their street tacos are incredible and the best you will find in Tallahassee. I went with Al Pastor, Chorizo, and Carnitas and could not have been happier with the simple, perfectly balanced flavors of each. Street tacos are not meant to be "elevated" or "farm-to-table", just well-seasoned and straight up with some rojo sauce, onion, and cilantro on a corn tortilla. Don't make it anything more than it needs to be. And Locos Tacos does it to a T. Their street tacos are exactly what you ordered and exactly what you want. Then decided to pick up a to-go order to take home. I chose a burrito bowl. As I watched la chef make the bowl I was stunned at the amount of food she added. The bowl was probably 9" in diameter and for each ingredient used her ladle to spread it in a circle the diameter of the bowl until there was a full layer of each. (You choose four ingredients from a large list of options). The cashier sealed on the top, handed us the bowl and a plastic set up, and out we went, happy. Whenever I'm craving tacos, this is one of my go-to spots. Everything always tastes fresh. The menu is short and sweet. They offer several drink options. Your traditional fountain drinks, bottled Mexican sodas, Piña, Horchata and one other selection they switch out. Piña is my favorite! I've tried several things on their menu, but my favorites are the traditional items. Their rice and beans are super flavorful. You don't need to add anything to them. I always order the street tacos, Carnitas, extra cilantro and onions. The Carnitas is delicious! Juicy with little crispy bits. Be warned, the red sauce is SPICY! When it hits the tongue it's unassuming, then it revs up out of no where. I personally prefer the green sauce. It has hints of tomatillos and avocado. A lot milder. So good! We've been back twice already. Authentic Mexican food is what we've been searching for. Love the two for one margaritas and tequila shots, that's always a win! Super clean welcoming spot. The portion sizes are great just enough without being to little or to much. I'm pretty sure I saw a lady making the Tortillas fresh to order they are great and so fresh. The Salsa is great taste super fresh. The ceviche comes in these cute little tortilla bowl shells prefect portions size for me everything seems traditional from what I can see and everything seems fresh and not processed or prepackaged. Their chips and salsa were spot on and tasty. Crisp chips and spicy salsa, yum! We ordered the $2 soft shell 'classic' tacos, chicken, ground beef and vegetarian. Locos offers street tacos, salads, and burritos but personally, I can't help myself when it comes to amazing street tacos. I think what makes their tacos so amazing is that they are incredibly authentic. They are simple yet so flavorful! And at a great price-point Locos also has a full bar - we had margaritas and at my request for no sour mix was delighted to have a freshly made cocktail. The BEST tacos. On my first visit, I tried 3 different varieties of "street tacos" (carne asada, pastor & campechano), and loved each one of them. Ultimately, the pastor were my favorite. My husband got the "regular" tacos (beef & chicken), and he really enjoyed them too. The queso is absolute delicious as well. Since then, I've been 3 or 4 more times, and gotten the pastor street tacos every single time (with chips & queso), and they're so amazing every time. And the green, creamy avocado sauce it comes with is delicious too.
