Lofty Pigeon was a lovely bookstore! I made a trip out to Brooklyn to specifically go here. I was not disappointed. They have a nice selection of books and trinkets. They even have a few chairs to sit and read on. The staff were all so nice and helpful. The store is located not too far from the F or G train. read more

On the B103 heading home, I noticed a new bookstore blocks before the bus turned on Coney Island Avenue from Church. It took a couple more trips until I finally had the chance to visit (just a quick walk from the nearby limited B35 bus stop at Coney Island Avenue). This space is definitely roomy. I can imagine this as a convenient place for parents of young children to take them for a time. Like a typical independent bookstore, it has recommended books and tags throughout the store. Everything is spaced out in obvious sections so you won't get confused trying to find a book. So this place is definitely designed by someone with bookstore experience. What I like about independent bookstores is when they delve into their themes if they have one. In this case, I could definitely see some pigeon themed merchandise that I thought was so cute. In addition, they like many good bookstores have local non book products including candles, stickers and notepads. They also sell cards (I won't confirm or deny that I bought two Beyoncé themed Christmas cards). They also have a membership where if you spend a certain amount, you get $5 off. Which is great if you have a book addiction. I can see this place a nice place to go and peruse. read more

NEW LOCAL BOOKSTORE! I'm thrilled to see Lofty Pigeon Books opened! I visited the new store on Saturday for the first day of their soft opening. Their Grand opening is on September 9th, so the store is not fully stocked. They renovated the space of a drab eyeglasses store and transformed it into an airy, bright store with nicely designed tall shelving on either side of the store. And two tables of books to browse in the center. The vibe was welcoming, and I could see smiles of appreciation as people opened the front door for the first time. I bought a book, Hotel Splendide by Ludwig Bemelmans -- Pushkin Press, one of the friendly owners rang me up. Congrats to them and their new independent bookstore! I can't wait to return for more. Lofty Pigeon Books is a few stores down from Hinterlands (great bar) and Der Pioneer (fantastic bakery and coffee), so there are great options for buying your book and finding a nearby nook to start your read. read more

Beautiful bookstore with friendly booksellers, a well curated book selection, and fun merch and gifts. The children's section has some seating and is separated so when they are doing book readings for kids it is still easy to browse. They also have other events - I went to a stand up comedy night (which started super late but otherwise was a great time). I bought one of their staff picks I would never have picked up otherwise and really loved it! read more

I was so pleased to have stumbled upon this bright yellow beacon of a new bookstore after visiting a stretch of Church Ave. that I don't frequent on a pretty dreary winter day. The selection of new release titles was well- curated, and I also noticed some visually stunning paper products. There is an extensive selection of children's books in the back, which I plan to revisit for gifts for budding readers. The employee who rang me up was very friendly and told me about the membership that saves you $5 for every $100 you spend. I already have a return visit planned. read more

I had my first visit to this bookstore recently. They have a nice space with a little bit of seating and also a restroom. The selection of books is good--a lot of varied fiction and nonfiction, children's books and YA, etc. I like that they also have some sections set up featuring local authors. I want to come back and explore some more--I didn't buy anything on this trip--but it's great that Kensington and Ditmas Park have bookstores now (Ditmas Park has a bookshop called Taylor & Co on Cortelyou Road). read more

One day I was biking past this spot and was shocked to see a nice new bookstore opened in the neighborhood! It's a pretty large size, with a varied selection of books. Since Greenlight Bookstore on Flatbush closed several years ago we've been lacking in many bookstore options (save for Taylor and Co tiny bookshop on Cortelyou, and the many little free libraries). So many people have turned to Amazon and other services, enriching billionaires, and not enjoying the pleasure of browsing, with selections by real people. It's such a pleasure to walk in the door and wander, letting my eyes and happenstance lead me to a book. This new bookstore is contributing to a really nice spring shaping up in the neighborhood, and I hope folks will come out and buy books locally, and let the websites languish. What can you say about a perfectly curated, brand new bookstore. Went on opening day with my wife (an avid reader and book lover) and we fell in love with the warm atmosphere and kind service.
