Logan Theatre used to be one of my favorite movie theaters. Their price is unbeatable, the popcorn was delicious, and the greeter at the entrance was always dressed so nicely! It was always a fun experience. Unfortunately, the place hasn't been the same the last few times I've been there. The prices for snacks was absurd, the place smelled like pee, and there was the most annoying clicking sound throughout the ENTIRE movie. Even when the sound would stop for five minutes all I could think about was when it would come back...and it did come back. Oh, and the man that took my ticket stub was in the process of eating a chicken wing. Logan is still a great place to catch a movie when you don't feel like paying $12 for a ticket and you're okay with seeing a movie that's been out for a while in a small theater. Despite its flaws, I know I'll be back. read more

All right, I'm going to word this carefully because I'm not trying to be a "wiseguy" (btw, the hints begin now) and I am not one to jump to conclusions, so I'll just describe what I witnessed at Logan Theater and we'll work from there. Yesterday was my first time attending a film at the LT, so I can't say what the norm is but they have quite a "professional" staff don't they? I've read from other reviews that this is a "family-owned" establishment. I have never been to a film theater that had two grown men with heavily gelled hair, wearing suits take my tickets. Are they bouncers? I believe in professionalism but why is the ticket attendant wearing sunglasses indoors and a blue-tooth? Are gold chains distributed to all male staff members? I certainly felt the moment I walked in that I was going to get a different film experience at LT. I was excited to get past the ticket attendants because I had miraculously made it from ticket purchase to food counter and still felt like I had money to spend on popcorn! These prices are really appreciated, but I have to admit I stop and wonder about things when the server behind the counter has to get my change from the BIG wad of cash that the ticket attendant (one of the well-dressed men I referred to earlier) keeps in his pocket. He must be the manager or owner, right? The cash register is on the fritz, or maybe he just runs a tight front-of-house "operation?" Before, I make it into my film's theater, I pass two more older gentlemen in, you guessed it, sharp suits, styled hair, and gold chains (or as I like to call it, the "Carlito's Way" to fashion) and I'm intrigued by the Logan Theater business model (and suddenly very worried about what will happen if they catch me eating the Kit-Kat bar I sneaked in.) Now a grown man can have any job he wants to have and is qualified for, but I have never seen a theater run by so many Good-older-fellas. Are they taking care of lot's of different aspects of the business, not just front-of-house? These men look very qualified to do lots of "jobs." Do not many teenagers or young twentysomethings work out in their staff? I just want to know: what's motivating these very fashion conscious men? What's their passion? And, why do I feel like that's a two-way mirror at the end of the hallway? I DO love those low-low prices, though....maybe it's nothing. read more

I'm torn with this review as I would love to give an old, cheap, theater a glowing review, using an adjective such as "charming," but there are just too many negatives associated with the Logan that bring it down. The place is dirty, the staff less than friendly, and attempting to sit in those seats (I kept changing seats before the movie until I found an almost decent on) for an entire film can be a challenge. If you want to pay $3 to see a film in theaters then it's worth it to go, it is just that you get what you're paying for. No matter how much I hate to write it, I do appreciate the amenities that paying 3x as much gets me at a big, corporate theater. read more

Indie films, cheap ticket prices, bar in the lobby, and vintage decor. This place is my neighborhood heaven! I really enjoy coming here for indie films that most other theaters don't show. It's the best neighborhood for films like that. They also show older films which is nice too - especially for $7 ticket prices! Sold. Next, can't forget the artsy bar in the lobby where you can get pre or post movie drinks (drinks not allowed in the actual theatre). Another huge plus are the comfy seats! Although the theaters themselves are pretty small, the seats are amazingly comfy! I've enjoyed every movie I've seen here! Definitely a neighborhood must! read more

I procrastinated on seeing a movie that I really wanted to see, and by the time my vacation rolled around, Logan Theatre was my only option. Street parking was plentiful when I arrived, I ended up right across the street. The ticket was $4 and popcorn/pop was another 6 bucks. Great prices! This is definitely not a a modern, high-class theater. The screen was small and filled with tons of scratches, the seats were uncomfortable and the sound mediocre. Don't save your action/visually stunning movies for this theater - they'd lose a lot of impact on the low-quality screen. I'd go here again as a last resort, but honestly, I think it's worth an extra buck or two to catch a matinee somewhere else. read more

Antique theater, $3.00 for a ticket, good-tasting inexpensive popcorn!!! If you can wait a few weeks to see the movie, you can't beat this deal. The lovely gentlemen who wait on you in the lobby, the ancient bathrooms and uncomfortable seats add to the charm. I Never notice the smell after the first 2 minutes. This is a historic place in the Logan Square area. Yest the place smells funky and the floors are sticky, but the prices and the friendliness of the staff make up for it. The renovations should also help the conditions. I just hope that the price does not change much. read more

Having lived in Logan Square all of my life I used to come here when I was a small child with my mom...when I cut school in my asshole teenage years and then I discovered big box theatres and I never came back. It was all skeevy and your shoes stuck to the bottom of the sticky floor. You had to watch out for mouse scampering on the floor around your feet waiting for popcorn to fall. You sat in the chairs and they were all lumpy and you sunk in.....but it was cheap and something to do. Fast forward to now and I must say this place is amazing. This place used to be the pits. I came here for the Grease Sing a Long and it was sooo fun. There always seems to be fun events going on here and I really appreciate that. The bar area is nice and roomy. I didn't get a chance to have any beers but the seemed to have a nice selection on hand. I am definitely making it my mission to support this theatre and come see more movies here. read more

I recently went to see a movie at the newly remodeled Logan Theater. The seats are so so so so much better! Very comfortable. I just wish the aisle wasn't right down the middle where the prime viewing seats could be. The new menu and lounge are great--it's nice to have better options when at the movies. I really like being able to have a drink too. My one complaint is that if you buy a beer to take into the theater, it's put into a small plastic cup that is not the size of a pint, whereas if you have your drink at the bar, it is pint-sized. read more

Walkin' to the movies for three bucks. If it's a weekend night and you go see something "hot," the crowd is usually all into it and it feels quite intimate in a good way. All movie theaters should be low cost like the Logan Theatre!!! Bring a damn pillow if those seats bother your bum so much. Yay!! :D read more

I had never been to this place. Rarely do I ever go to Logan's Square. However, this was the only place showing "Race to Witch Mountain" in the evening. After approaching the ticket counter, which comprises of a person sitting in a booth outside (just like the old theatres). She gave us our tickets (2 for $8). OMG, what a deal. But as they say, you get what you pay for. No frills here.. The building is a bit old, the washrooms are ok but clean and the theatre is a bit out date. If you don't mind second hand movies (where there is a line going down the movie screen the entire movie) then this is the place to go. Cannot beat the price. I am a fan!!! We just need one of these in Uptown, so that don't have to travel that far.. I think the Davies Theatre isn't too far and has the same amenities. read more

The theater is not the state of the art monstrosities we have become accustomed to. It's not lavish or comfy and it's a little creaky. But, here's the thing...you can watch a movie for $4! Today, my friend and I went to see Salt and we paid $8 for the two of us. I thought for sure it was an error...NOT. I don't mind the lack luster appeal, as I was able to park for free and see a kick ass movie for $4. I will return. read more

I love this theater and have been coming here for years to see second run movies. They used to have ushers with bow ties but I think the new owner got rid of them, he should totally bring them back. So the movies don't start on time and yes the seats can be super uncomfortable and maybe sometimes they don't always clean after each screening but damn is it cheap and its still charming. The washrooms are a trip as they are still 1920 style were you still have to pull the chain to flush. Another thing, cheap popcorn and snacks and the popcorn tastes way better than the big box theaters. Also in all the years I have come here I never had a problem with somebody being loud or the cell phone going off during a movie as I have at the big theaters. Yay for renovations! The Logan Theatre no longer smells like pee and is actually fun to hang out in! I love the new Logan. The "throwback" movie night are fun. I saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. How cool is that? The new lounge area is fantastic. I had popcorn and candy. Everything was really fresh and it was very clean. It wasn't crazy theatre prices either--compared to the big Showplace theatre on Western. We are totally going to go to Logan more often for movies and more! read more

Perfect for the neighborhood and offers an easy alternative to regal with a lot more character and charm. The one major downside, however, is the fact that each theater is way too bright when the movies play. The interior lights never seem to dim enough and it can be distracting. read more

I love the remodeling and new bar/lounge areas at the Logan! It's a pity that I will not be seeing anymore movies there. At least until my bad back is completely healed. They have installed wonderfully plush and ample seats in the theaters which are a huge improvement over the bare-spring, filthy, creaky ones they had before. BUT, the new seats recline way back whether you want them to or not. I cannot be in that position for two hours without my back seizing up, but there was no option to sit up straight. I could barely get out of my seat after the movie and had a difficult time walking home. Sad, but true, you guys. read more

I love the logan theatre. I wish I went there more often, we live just a couple blocks away. I moved to Chicago from Portland, OR and this is the closest I've seen of a McMenamins style theatre. And that is really as good as it gets. Anyway, they show good movies, are affordable and have a great lounge. I want to go for trivia night too! First I need to make some friends. read more

Sure the seats are slouching and a bit sticky, but they get some pretty good flicks through there and for $3 is hard to beat. I really wish they wouldn't make me check my bag anymore though. I sure enjoyed splitting a six pack with an accomplice during movies. read more

The Logan is super sweet. It's 3 bucks, and they have pretty sweet movies generally. They had Indiana Jones like a week or so after it got released in the $$$ theaters. Super classic vintage design work and architecture. The experience is great. It's the same as going to any other movie theater. read more

This is a "love it or hate it" place that makes you smell like pee when you leave. Yes, when you go, you are first greeted by an old fashioned ticket booth that is outside. You become even more skeptical when they only allow you to pay in cash; however, when the ticket booth attendant tells you the price for a matinee, you jump up in the air with joy. It is seriously only $4.00 to see a movie here at night. You do have to wait a couple of weeks for the new movies to even come out here, but you save so much cash. Now for the downfalls: I am convinced that either homeless people come in from the cold to use the hallways as a urinal, the staff are too lazy to make it to the bathrooms, or this place becomes loaded with drunk people at night too wasted to get up and walk. The theaters small like urine. Almost all of the seats are broken and the springs poke a little when you sit down due to a lack of comfy cushins. read more

This spot looks great after the renovations! I saw two throw back movies and while there were just a few technical difficulties at first, the experience was overall good. The bar has a great selection of beers and they are open through the movie. Only tiny downfall was the line. Once people started lining up, it was kind of chaotic. People were getting pushy, which is just silly. Hopefully they figure out a better plan for that. read more

This place is the dive bar of movie theaters, and I don't mean that in a bad way. My daughter and I came up to see a movie that wasn't playing anywhere else in the city. Cost us $4 to get in and we spent another $9 on popcorn and a couple of pops. The seats were sort of broke down, but not uncomfortable. Everything is sort of dingy, but not because it's dirty more just because it's old. I didn't note any kind of unpleasant smell. The screens are small, but adequate (so was the sound system). In the years I've lived downtown I've seen 99% of my movies at the AMC River East. It was nice to get in and out with less than I'd pay for parking there. The staff was friendly. All in all a very satisfactory outing. I don't think I'd come here to catch the premiere of The Dark Knight, but if you know what you're getting yourself into, it's great. Wow. I was so impressed with what has been done to the interior, especially the addition of the coffee shop and lounge. LOVE LOVE it. Love all the posters and photos inside. Came to see a late-night show - to see "GREMLINS" - and had a good time. I think there are 4 theaters, like they were before 2011's grand reopening. The theater I was in was small and intimate. Loved that. I am so glad this movie theater is open!!! read more

What a dump. The seats are always a little damp and the place smells like a porta potty. But it's cheap so why the hell not? I wish they'd renovate and clean this place up, but if they did the price might skyrocket to $6 like the Davis. Oh well. Had leftover food in my bag. They refuse to let me in, would have been smarter if they check my bag before getting the ticket. Got a refused but the lack of common sense on there behave and let me know of there policy. So now I will be boycotting this theater for awhile and they lost a customer tonight. I can honestly say that I never went to the Logan before it was updated so I have nothing to compare it to but I think the theater is great. We have seen two movies there and I have nothing to complain about. Parking is street but there is a large pay lot behind the chase that I don't think a lot of people know about because it is always empty. The bar is an interesting addition to a movie theater and although I have not had a cocktail I think it is a great addition. The price is what you expect to pay for a movie. Like I said I can't compare it to what it was but it is a great place to see a movie. I will be back. read more

Thought I'd blown my chance to see Scott Pilgrim until I realized, hey, I can still see it here, and for much less! I agree that the seats are terrible and the angle is not good, and I generally do not like it when they put the aisle in the middle of the theater, ensuring that no one gets the perfect seat. The truth is, you could get all of these "features" in many full-price small suburban theaters (at least in California). The thing I was most paranoid about was the projection, as the bargain joint back in Moreno Valley, CA (now closed) used to air films out of focus or mis-framed (boom mike visible, mouths, in close up, not visible, etc). There was no such trouble here. True, they didn't block off the left and right sides of the screen to fit the aspect ratio (if you don't know what this means, skip it, you're a happier person this way) and there were a few blemishes, but unfortunately this can happen anywhere. I will also say that I didn't notice the smell, although I'm always a bit congested due to allergies. I also cannot comment on the patrons as there were none! $3 movies are a steal. But as others have mentioned, the seats are old, feel a tad broken, and the movie room smells musty but if I overlooked those factors, I enjoyed the experience - I just recently saw Benjamin Button on Saturday night and was pleased by the mixed age crowd. The other drawback was that tickets aren't purchasable anywhere on-line, which is hard for a former New Yorker where instinctually, Saturday night movies translate into sold-out, and the box-office only opened 15 minutes before my show. I absolutely LOVE this theater. This is my favorite place in Chicago. The bar and lounge area is great. Come to the theater early before your movie to enjoy a drink and soak in the ambiance. They have a lot of beer on tap from local breweries (revolution, two brothers, for example). All the staff who work there are super friendly and cool. I can't believe it... only $3 for a movie ticket to Burn After Reading and then hitting up Pollo Loco which is like 200 feet away... I thought Pollo Loco was only in Cali!!! I'm so stoked. Now I have 2 reasons to bike all the way from Lincoln Park to Logan. There's a McDonalds across the street too if you're more into burgers than the most awesome chicken! The popcorn is good here too. Most of the time I can't stand the place because the floors are always sticky, the seats are always creaky, and there's always someone somewhere in the theater being a total jackass. However, it's super cheap and the movies are always pretty awful so you don't feel bad about dropping money like $10.00 on the movie. And like most theaters, it's an excellent escape for the summer heat. read more

This place is GREAT! I'd never been before the renovation... and even without seeing the "swan-like transformation" I'm SO in love with this place! I love the layout - bar and concessions with a lounge area - clear entrances to the theatres. We arrived a bit early to check out the space, and were happy to discover that we could leave a tab open during the movie and pop back out for another round! Hurrah! They have a stellar beer list, creative cocktails, and even had "throwback shots" last weekend, based on Ghostbusters, etc. The food options were pretty solid - pretzels, popcorn, candy, soda, etc. Enough to get you through several rounds and a movie without dinner. Can't wait to see another movie here! read more

Solid five stars. In fact, I'd rather come here for every movie than go to a giganto-monster cinema any day. Ever since they had that makeover and added a lounge out front, it's truly the most pleasant place to waste fifteen minutes if you're the one in the group that shows up early all the time (that would be me). The popcorn is great, good selection of candy, and outrageously reasonable prices on tickets. The seats are even not that bad, though if you're unlucky and get a seat close to the screen, you will get a lasting crick in your neck. Even so, what a great theater. Classic & carefully crafted movie deco-palace aesthetic and polite folks at concessions and the (fully stocked) bar. Fewer pre-show ads and better seats that a lot of the megaplex theaters, plus great lounge space in the lobby to meet for a drink before hand or to discuss the movie after! Absolutely one of my favorite movie-going experiences in the city. There have been a couple times I've experienced show cancellations due to a projector issue, which is unfortunate, but 99% of the time it is a smooth & enjoyable experience. I went here this past weekend while my boyfriend was visiting from out of town. I don't really care for movies but he is a film fanatic. I had never been here before but it wasn't far from my place and I've heard a lot of positive things about it so we decided to check it out. We caught a 5 o'clock showing and when we got there, we found out it was just 5.75! I heard it was inexpensive but I was extremely impressed by that factor. Concessions weren't terribly priced either in comparison to other movie theaters. The interior is beautiful and the lounge is a nice touch. My boyfriend hated the chairs. He has a bad back and found that they were too stiff for him. Comfort wise, the chairs met my standards yet I found they were a bit creaky as the couple in front of us kept moving around. It wasn't terribly loud but it was a bit bothersome. One other thing that bothered me was that during the quiet scenes of our movie, you could hear the other movie next door. Maybe it was because we were in the back row next to the door but it was loud and a bit distracting. The Logan Theatre is a gem. It's inexpensive and overall a great place to spend a date night. I definitely plan on returning. read more
