What a fun spot, located right at the center of the universe! Seriously, it says it a few steps outside the front door. I was recently visiting the town of Arcata and found my way to Logger Bar on a Friday night because my friend's band was there playing some tunes. The was place was divey but country divey... if that makes any sense. Chain saws adorn the walls, alongside hard hats and other tools. The bartenders, specifically one named Bunny I believe, were quick to serve you and the prices on shots of tequila were spot on ($5). There's a patio out back, a pool table (score!), and plenty of room for dancing. You can also find parking outside and they don't mind if you need to leave it there for the night. The bathrooms were big and they have a few snacks available for purchase, just in case you need to get something in your stomach before your next drink. This is exactly the type of bar I would picture in Blue Lake and if I were a local, I'd be back regularly. Definitely swing by for a drink if you're near. read more

Sadly the Logger Bar is closed and up for sale. The times we live in today put a damper on doing business. Kate, the current owner really put her heart into upgrading this establishment. Thank you, Kate. Bunny is my favorite bar tender who makes my favorite cocktail. A ginger lemon drop. No one else makes those. Now what? With the challenges facing our community and the world with COVID-19 I understand. It is so hard to see this old watering hole dry up. It was a fine meeting place and close to home. A gem of a bar located in sleepy little Blue Lake. I wanted to come to this bar because it was a set in a movie I saw before I came to Eureka (the appropriately named "Humboldt County", if you're curious. It's a decent flick). The interior has since been remodeled, but the bar itself is still very charming on the inside, with a healthy nod to the region's timber industry past well represented through saws, helmets, boots, etc. on the walls and ceiling. They make their own syrups here, which is kind of neat. If you order something that is usually fed syrup through the gun you're in for a treat. Decent beers on tap, too. Pool table in the back. This is such a crazy but wonderful historic dive bar, and you need to come here with an open mind and sense of humor to enjoy the experience. The bartender is just as surly as she can be, there isn't much "happening" here (it's usually fairly empty), and there isn't much of a drink selection. You're expected to buy a beer or a whiskey, and pay with cash. But apparently this bar has been here for about a century, since the logging days. It's not just a "logging themed bar"; it's the real deal. Loggers drank here back in the day and the place is decorated with their equipment, photographs, and memorabilia. I don't get what all the hype is about. I've lived in Blue Lake for two years now and have only had one good experience here out of about 5 try's. Last night the bartender didn't let me close out on a $8 tab saying I needed to spend $10 and tried to get me to buy chips. Earlier in the day I got screwed by my mechanic and didn't feel like throwing more of my hard earned blue collar money at someone behind a counter. I had the same situation at Richard's Goat and they were totally cool about it and let me slide. Great place for checking out old time logging goods, and the wood stove with the office chair is to die for! With that said, the rest of it kind of sucked. We walked in after the Hoptober Fest last weekend, and were the only people there for an hour or so. The bartender was more than surly, she was downright rude and wouldn't get off her computer for over ten minutes to come serve us anything. It seemed to be a huge issue for her to actually do her job, and it was not how business should be run. Later that night I was at a party in Arcata, and the Logger Bar came up in conversation. The consensus of the locals who spent time there in the past was the bartender was worthless, and pulled the same crappy service because she was on play station instead of the computer. Fabulous neighborhood bar of Blue Lake! They have live music and fun gaming events {billiards, turtle races, ping pong, etc...} The Logger has friendly and awesome bartenders all of the time!! Like a logger museum you can drink in. Saw blades are part of the floor and other tools serve as wall decoration, crushed helmets and massive chainsaws hang from the ceiling. Nice back deck and an old contraption serves as the wood stove to heat the polace in the winter. The bartenders are all great and all the events are free. This is definitely a locals spot, but welcomes anyone from anywhere. There is a lot of neat stuff to see in the bar, tons of history, and funky traditions. They often have live music (though at the time of this review there is a legal action to stop that). They have turtle racing one night a month. Drinks are top notch. Ask what the specials are and get one. You will not be disappointed. At least I hope not. You can almost always get a game of pool in, but don't drop the que. Any review before 2012 is the old Logger. New owner Kate has really done a fabulous job of retaining the history yet updating the bar and the drinks and the service. That whole thing about surly bartender was the old place - not that way no mo'! Good local music frequently, good brews on tap, good wood fired pizza and burger place across the street, good live theater on the same block, good brewery tasting room just down the street, good evening walk along the Mad River - it's all good in Blue Lake! There's a list a mile long on the wall of community folks who volunteered their time to work on revamping the place - it takes an entire village to raise a bar! Come in just to see the old sawmill circular sawblades inlaid into the floor by local craftsmen. read more

The new Logger Bar cannot even be compared to the old one. Kate has renovated it into a comfortable (yet still historical) place to have a great drink with friends or by yourself. The new floor is way cool with huge saw blades laid into it. There is a little beer garden out back so you can enjoy the sunshine so abundant in Blue Lake. They have a great selection of local beers and awesome mojitos made with home grown mint and organic local strawberries.mmmm. Also, The little cafe across the street does wood fired pizza and they'll deliver right to the bar! AND, there is often great local music for no cover! Definitely a place to be checked out. read more
