The place was busy -- maybe a dozen tables plus bar seating, and about 80% full -- but even with a busboy helping, the waiter/operator barely paid me any attention. Maybe it was the beard and the autumn work attire, maybe it was just bad timing, but I felt pretty ignored overall. I was so irritated that I only tipped fifty cents -- and that's saying something, because I always tip well. Fast forward to now: he's much better. It seems like he may have seen my original review (the 4-star one) and wasn't thrilled about it. Still, to his credit, the service has definitely improved, and the food remains phenomenal. On my return visits, I've tried the Western Omelette (pro tip: ask for it with their jalapeño cream cheese for a delicious kick!) and, for the first time ever, chicken and waffles. Both were fantastic -- and honestly, I'll probably never order chicken and waffles anywhere else again. Still, I always find myself coming back for the huevos rancheros. Funny story: I asked the owner/waiter about their huevos rancheros recipe. He told me it's been in the family for 45 years. The ingredients are surprisingly simple -- nothing fancy, not even cumin -- so either he's guarding a well-kept family secret, or his father, the cook, has simply perfected the art of turning ordinary ingredients into something extraordinary. As far as ambience, this place is just an ordinary, mountain diner. I love their floor though, and I would like to replicate it in the next cabin I build.

The restaurant didn't seem to be absolutely packed so we were pretty excited to get fast, friendly, service, after all we were there for breakfast and it was great service. We started off with warm beers, wasn't the end of the world, after we asked for iced/chilled cups she did decide to tell us they probably just re stocked.. okay fine no problem :) Well thankfully we had good company because after an hour of talking and hardly seeing our server, I flagged her down to ask an ETA on our food.. She went to the window and we witnessed the cook proceed to tell our server that he hasn't even gotten that ticket .. She came back to tell us that the kitchen didn't give her a set time and at least the kitchen is closed now so should be any minute .... What's frustrating is that there was no communication at all. Yeah we had good company but that shouldn't mean to ignore our table until we have to flag you down.. Well as anyone would, we finally said to just bring us our bill for our drinks and our single appetizer we actually did get... 30 min after ordering.... Magically our food was done and she proceed to bring out two dishes to say "my manager wants me to show you it's done now see?" Well we were unfortunately already fed up, but you know we did decide to ask if we could at least get a discount on what we did get.. what sucks is we didn't get a single apology.. you know what we got? At the end after asking about the discount we got told the manager was mad at US for not eating it when it finally came out.. I mean seriously we have one person in our party who is a diabetic, one who is hypoglycemic, and myself who is 17 weeks pregnant.. so forgive us for being a little upset at our experience..
