Dog Bar Poutine. Some good stuff!!!!
    Judy B.

Stopped in because we actually found a place to park. Nice shady tables outside on the deck. All the servers were very nice and ours was great. We really only wanted a margarita but decided to try the BBQ Nachos. Just say yes please. They should rename them to be Dog Bar Poutine. It starts with crispy fries. Then add queso. Then pile on some slaw. Then pork burnt ends and top with BBQ sauce. You eat it with a fork. So delish. They also had really good looking pizzas, burgers and other stuff. Beers on tap. The margaritas were also good. Get the cucumber jalapeño margarita. It has cucumber tequila from 21 Seeds, a women owned distillery in Mexico.

This is the perfect mountain restaurant! It was our first time in Cuchara, and knew the Dog Bar was the place to be. After reading reviews I was prepared to wait and seeing that it was busy on a Saturday afternoon I figured that would be the case. We sat on the patio as the storm rolled in and was told by the waitress the bar was backed up and our drinks would take some time. We also ordered fried mushrooms for apps and put in our food order as we figured there would be a wait. Much to our surprise our drinks came out much quicker then expected and the mushrooms came out shortly after that! The mushrooms were exactly as advertised in these reviews - very hot, fresh and tasty! The only rookie mistake was I forgot to ask for the jalapeño ranch. As we continued to watch the storm roll in, our food came out, again not even 5-10 min later. I had a buffalo chicken salad which is my all time fave. The salad was fresh and the sauce was tangy. Maybe only minor complaint was the portion wasn't huge like salads normally are, but that's OK! My husband had the fish and chips who also had no complaints. Overall the food, atmosphere and service was great and we beat the rain! Perfect little mountain restaurant for a day trip. I'd also love to check out the Local Lodge across the street for overnight stays, as it really looks like they've improved and developed this local area. Pro tip -make sure you check out the gift shop, it had the cutest modern touristy items without being cheap and gimmicky! Loved everything in there. We even bought some items to remember our trip to Cuchara and the dog bar :)

My friend and I chose this for lunch on our trip The the nearby area. Definitely worth it! We sat down immediately and a server dropped off menus. Another server came back to grab our drink menus a few minutes later. My ultimate lunch decision : chicken, bacon, avocado, and cheese sandwich. It was grilled and delicious! Plus, the homemade onion rings were crispy too. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was for the wait time on our food. We waited close to twenty five minutes for our food. There were two other tables : both with 4 people at each table. I know they are in their slow season so maybe they don't have that many employees for weekday lunch rush. Either way the food was delicious and highly recommended.

We had a great experience at Dog Bar & Grill during our first visit. The deep fried pickles and mushrooms are spot on. I could've eaten the entire tray of the mushrooms - they're fried to perfection! Whatever you get, make sure to ask for a side of their jalapeño ranch dressing. We also ordered the Hangover Burger and bowl of green chili and both were good. If you're driving through southeast Colorado or visiting Cuchara, make sure to pop in. And don't leave without trying the Famous Dog Bar Mud Pie - the perfect mix of ice cream pie loaded with coffee ice cream, almonds, & a chocolate cookie crust. Excited to go back and explore more of their menu.

This is a yearly stop we make in Cuchara and we were SO DISAPPOINTED. When we walked in, one of the servers told us they were understaffed but we could wait and they would get to us as soon as possible, so we did. Waitstaff was helping regular customers rather than helping other customers so our experience was the worst we've had in almost 10 yrs. We barely got drinks and appetizers, and when we asked for the check the server said she forgot we were there.... We had three ketchup packets for the tray of onion rings (the waitress said she would bring us a bunch more and they never showed up) but we made the most of it and ate as many onion rings as we could since they tasted great. I'm not sure we'll be back.... We were prepared to wait, but not to be ignored.... Very sad.

After seeing the ad for Alys' in the local paper for years, we finally tried it and loved it! Fantastic food, charming ambiance and super friendly folks. They have a limited menu and extensive wine list, but everything was delicious! To fully appreciate the experience, you have to shed your expectations of a traditional fine dining experience. This is more like going to your favorite Aunt's house for dinner who happens to be a gourmet cook and talented wine collector. The place is literally a residential building. Walk in the front door of the house into a front room that houses a awesome (and great priced) wine collection, then you are seated in a modest but comfortable dining room. We were handed a wine list before a menu and then after the wine was poured, the server verbally shared the few entre options (no prices). I had the NY strip, my wife ordered the grilled tuna, and both were outstanding. No appetizers offered, but your meal comes with a choice of soup or salad. Nice dessert options. The vibe is definitely more private dinner party than commercial enterprise. The bill was startingly modest. Reservations are required, and Alys treats everyone like a personal guest whether you know her well or just met her. Enjoy!

Our server (unfortunately I don't remember his name) asked if we wanted a wine list but we decided against it (my grandmother ended up getting the cab later, one of the smoothest wines she has ever had and it was only 6 dollars). He brought out our antipasto which was a tomato pesto (forgot the name unfortunately), sheep cheese, and Chinese 5 seasoned pork with fresh bread, truly delicious. Our appetizer choices were house salad or New England clam chowder, my grandmother got the salad I got the clam chowder, I have to admit I was a little skeptical when it came out, I prefer a thicker clam chowder, but this was truly one of the best clam chowders I have ever had, and I am from a costal state. My grandmother loved her salad. It is an entirely verbal menu, he gave us 7ish (maybe 8 lol) different options, I went with the Duck confit with a blackberry currant glaze, jasmine rice, and brown beech mushroom and green bean. My grandmother had the teriyaki pork loin chop on jasmine rice paired with the beech mushroom and green beans. I have been to France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Gordon Ramseys Hell's Kitchen, and other Michelin restaurants. When I say this is truly the best piece of poultry I have ever consumed, I mean it. It was tender but not mushy, the rice was cooked perfectly and the glaze brought just enough sweetness and tartness to balance the fat from the duck. It was one of the only meals I have ever consumed and absolutely loved every aspect of. I don't even like mushrooms and I ate every single one. My grandmother loved her food, she has been having some slight stomach issues and she said it felt very good to her body. The loin was evidently pulled just before 145, allowing it to rest and remain extra, extraordinarily juicy and tender, the teriyaki sauce was sweet but not too sweet, it had just the perfect amount of tang as well as notes of ginger I believe. For desert we had the crème brûlée which was extraordinary, one of the best I have ever had. I talked with the head chef (he went to a culinary school in Scottsdale Arizona), and he was a very kind man who brought out our crème brûlée personally to us. If you are hearing all of this and thinking "man this is out of my price range" it is priced at $40 dollars for the antipasto, the soup/salad, and the entree, which is absolutely ludicrous for this quality of food, they could easily charge 60-80 a plate. I highly recommend you give this place a try.

The restaurant wasn't fooling around when it comes to garlic. You could smell the enticing aroma of it as soon as you walk through the door. The ambience was quaint. It is connected to a hotel which I'd check out if I were traveling through here again. We arrived at the restaurant around 530pm. The happy hour menu had both drinks and some dinner items on it. My companion ordered the Spaghetti & Meatballs from the happy hour menu. We were told the portion is the same as from the regular menu. It was $14. ($18 on regular menu.) It was a generous portion with three large meatballs. I opted for the Picatta Pasta at $12 and added four shrimp for an extra $6. They gave me five so I'm not sure if the chef made a mistake or was just feeling generous. I'll say the latter! The dish had tomatoes, capers, lemon, and white wine. The only thing I'd add to my taste would be pine nuts! We both totally enjoyed our meals including the bread! I forced myself to leave a little for lunch the next day and it was even better then! Comments I heard from around the dinner were equally enthusiastic about their meals, especially those who ordered the mussels. We're in town for a week and I don't usually go back to the same restaurant twice when I'm visiting a new location but my companion and I are definitely going back again before we leave. It was a Fri and a bit of busy night when we were there but our server Jillian did a great job and was super nice.
