My husband and I decided last minute to celebrate our anniversary at Lola Rose, and we were so happy we did for two reasons: the food and service were exceptional, and they are closing their doors at the end of March 2025, so we wanted to dine there before it's gone forever. Our server was amazing. From the moment we walked in until the end of our meal, the service was superb. Our server seated us and immediately brought water, menus, and a complimentary sample of hummus, which I love. I requested butternut squash soup, but they didn't have it that evening, so I ended up ordering the lobster bisque instead. My husband chose the mushroom chimichurri pasta. We also ordered two glasses of Madalena Cabernet Sauvignon to accompany our dishes. We didn't wait long before our meals arrived. My soup was delicious, featuring generous chunks of lobster, and it was served on a toasted slice of bread topped with crispy kale. As I wasn't very hungry, this was just the right portion for me. My husband had nothing but praise for his dish. Since we were celebrating, we also ordered dessert: their chocolate mousse tart. It was divine and paired well with the wine. I am sad to see such a unique place with seasonal menus close its doors, but I was excited to hear from our server that they have been bought out and will be returning in a month or two under a new name and remodeled store front, to bring new culinary delights to El Paso. First time at Lola Rose and it won't be our last. After hearing about it online, we couldn't turn down a chance to celebrate our anniversary with brunch. The restaurant is in a market type setting with several restaurants and professional buildings. The restaurant has a modern decor with tile on the walls, custom bar, etc. The brunch menu is diverse with Mexican and New Mexican dishes. My girlfriend's chilaquiles had good flavor, a little heat, and crisp but soft tortillas. The menu also has chicken and waffles, pasta with shrimp, and steak options. I had the grilled steak sandwich which was definitely a fork and knife meal. The steak was generous with perfectly cooked onions and Swiss cheese. The garlic aioli on grilled toast was incredible and a side of perfectly crispy French fries was spot on. The service was professional and attentive. We visited Lola Rose for a Girl's Night Out. The party coordinator requested a private area days in advance to ensure the 10 of us could have fun without being too noisy. From the moment we arrived, we asked several times for the curtains of our private area to be closed, but the staff did not close them. Then, when they finally did (after we had finished our dinner), the curtains were not fully closed, so I got up to close them; one of the staff seemed upset and made it clear to me that they had a business and we were being too loud. Once I fully closed the curtains, the waitress stated that the curtains had helped keep our noise down. At that time, I felt bad we had disturbed the restaurant, especially knowing it could have been avoided if the curtains had been closed all along. A guy pal was having a special birthday and I offered to take him for a special birthday dinner. He requested Lola Rosa, so I easily made reservations for an early dinner on Saturday. We were greeted by friendly staff and quickly seated . The inter I r was fool and delightful- the ambiance is sort of a lag garden or a ritzy tropical locale. We ordered cocktails and there were fabulous. Our server, Michelle, recommender different ryes for my pal's old fashioned and I had the Yacht to Ibiza...yes I was floating away on a delightful voyage. We ordered the citrus salad and the hummus for starters- both were really tasty. For the main, he ordered the pasta with shrimp and I ordered the NY steak topped with two eggs over easy- I taught several Pilates classes that morning so I wanted some protein! Bothe meals were beautifully plated, and tasted great. We ended the meal with cappuccino, the signature latte and a Mediterranean cheesecake dessert. Michelle made the event special with a birthday sparkler. The food was so good I never eat my entire meal, but today I did...well my pal did eat a lot off my plate after he polished off his own! You almost could not stop eating it was that good. So I had been here a year ago and please note that they updated their menu about 6-7 months ago and I love the new menu, there is something g for everyone on this new brunch menu from steak to French toast, chilaquiles, and pancakes. This is a very nice spot. Felt like going into a VIP spot. That's how you were treated as well. Had a somewhat dark/intimate ambiance. The food was fantastic. I got the Guacho Carne Asada and gf got the Lola's Magdalena. The Carne asada was a NY strip cooked medium rare and topped with a fried egg and piled high with shoe string fries. Looked like a lot but was the perfect portion. Tender flavorful, just hit the spot. Lola's Magdalena was a walnut banana bread with berries and wheat berries and came with a latte that you can either drink or pour on the bread, which I recommend. Gave it such a better flavor. I had the impression to be back in France at a sophisticated lounge with cool Buddha bar music. By hey reality check - we are in El Paso. The atmosphere is feutre and discotheque like. The food was orignal but simple in its conception and presentation. We had the Octopus for a starter that was tender but the sauce was too spicy for our taste. The Lamb chops were medium rare and rose really cooked to perfection. Also enjoyed their version of a French ratatouille. The tagliatelle with lobster were also a classic dish and delicious. Had the most disappointing meal for my husband's birthday. Started with the tuna which tasted old and dried out. The salads were wilted and hidden in sloppy dressing. The scallops were mushy and fishy...no where near seared. And the chicken...although dry and tasteless...was bloody at the bone. We didn't say anything as not to embarrass the guest we were with. So utterly disappointed. And the prices were outrageous for such poor food quality. I'm so sad because are period visit was outstanding. Celebrated my birthday there and was received with sparklers and a bottle of champagne (NOT complimentary but requested at reservation). I really wanted to like this place because of all the great recommendations from friends who have had a wonderful experience, albeit a pricey one (but it is fine dining so what else should I expect?). So I was pretty disappointed that my experience was, well, disappointing. We went for brunch. We were a large party, so again - what should I expect? The decor was nice and I was really hungry. Due to dietary issues, I asked if the chef could make a traditional hollandaise for the Eggs Benedict, not the chipotle version, and the answer was no (there were two large parties at the time, so what should I expect?). The server explained that they make all the Hollandaise up in the morning (they what?), so I immediately figured that the Benedict was not going to meet my expectations. The kind server brought me a sample to see if I could tolerate the chipotle they used in place of lemon, and it was then the server told me then that the chef uses Tabasco sauce, not chipotle. The menu said chipotle, which is nowhere close to the peppers used in Tabasco. So that left me scratching my head. Still, the hollandaise I sampled was pretty bland. I opted instead for a simple platter of scrambled eggs, bacon, fried breakfast potatoes, with a side of pancakes. The server actually did a pretty good job of getting all meals to the table at about the same time. It all looked good. But the fried potatoes on my plate were refrigerator-cold. I have never had this happen in any restaurant, let alone a fine dining restaurant. I wondered at this point if maybe this was some sort of new-fangled potato salad? No, the server assured me they were supposed to be served hot. She whisked my plate away to have the chef fix it. Who would refrigerate fried potatoes and then reheat them? I'm not an expert, but I do know that re-heated fried anything is pretty disgusting. Thankfully I had pancakes to eat while I waited and honestly those were pretty good. When the new plate came out, if I had to guess, I would say the potatoes had been microwaved because the heat in the center of them was volcanically hot, but the outsides not so much. So after a sub-standard meal not at all representative of fine dining or even the quality one would expect from a greasy spoon -- where I had limp bacon and average eggs, hot tea, and a dessert (that had to be substituted because they were out of what I ordered, then didn't arrive with the others) -- I paid over $50 including 20% gratuity for reheated leftovers. Ordinarily I would give restaurants as lauded as this one a second chance, because anyone can have a bad day, but I just can't justify it at these prices. TLDR: brunch was well below average quality for well above average prices. Dinner might be better. read more

I came here for a pre-birthday meal. We came in early on a weekend, and I was expecting the place to get crowded, but we were able to get a seat without a reservation. Daphne, the hostess, did a wonderful job of making sure we felt welcome for our first time. She sat us in an empty dining room that had a slightly tiki vibe. Fortunately, the lights were bright and music were low, until about 7 where they dimmed lights and did a kind of disco motif and the music changed. I much prefered the earlier feel. If I've never been to a place before (and sometimes even if I have), I go online to check the menu. I was excited to try a few things that I found on their website, only to find out the they aren't offered any more. I checked earlier today and the old menu is still on there. That is something management should keep track of. Also, adding a drink menu would be a nice touch. Both would make reviewing the place easier,too. The server brought out an amuse bouche with carrots and broccoli raab. It was good, but a little tough. My bouche was not as amused as it could have been. I prefer a lot of small dishes to a big meal, so we ordered a lot of the tapas. We started with homemade ricotta that had pepper corns, truffle oil that wasn't overpowered. I could have ordered about 10 of those and left happy. They serve it with a side of homemade naan with zataar on it. We had hummus with chimichurri, fried brussels (and harissa?), whic was nice and spicy and creamy. I just had to order an extra order of bread to make sure nothing was left over. We also had a mushroom flatbread pizza that had carmelized onions. I was expecting one of those thing pizzas you get at the Bee of Apples, but this was like a regular pizza. They brought it out with scissors to cut it, which echoed the chefs experience when he went to Italy. Lastly, we had lemon potatoes. I enjoyed them, and there was definitely enough to share, but I was looking forward to the charred leek yogurt on it which was/is on the menu, so it didn't exactly hit the spot that it was suppose to. While my dining companion stuck to wine, I stuck to mixed drinks. My favorite was one with an abuelita bitters that they lit on fire. It had a nice smokiness to it. It was strong, but not overpowering. The others were good, (the Too Wong Fu and Death Becomes Her), but I'd stick with the sunset before those. Lola Rose just celebrated their one year anniversary. Brunch Husband had green chili omelette and reported it was excellent. I had Chilaquiles in red sauce. The sauce was Smokey and mildly spiced. Nice blend of flavors. The dish was served in a bowl full of tortilla chips with lots of red sauce piled on. There was a bit of crema drizzled on and two eggs on top garnished with avocado slices and fresh cilantro. Eggs were cooked perfectly and there was artisanal salt visible on top. Overall very disappointing as the saltiness was overwhelming due to a massive pile of salty chips soaked in the red sauce. My friends and I went to this place and tried their usual mimosas, which were pretty decent. We ordered the kulchapuri as an appetizer, which is a flatbread dish with cheese and eggs, topped with arugula and roma tomatoes. While the dish had pretty good flavor, the edges were overdone and burnt. For our main course, we ordered the meat platter and the arugula salad (I can't recall the exact names of the dishes). The steak was flavorful, and the sauce was well-made, but unfortunately, the fries that came with the dish were stale and cold. We asked for a repeat order of fries, but we were disappointed to receive a new order that was still stale and almost burnt. On a positive note, the arugula salad was very flavorful and probably the best tasting dish of the meal. The ambience was decent overall, and the service was average. The food is decent. I had the grilled chicken which was amazing and a large portion, and my spouse tried the halibut unfortunately over cooked and a very small presentation. The Mediterranean bread starter is great with honey, but the spread had absolutely no hint of chèvre. Service is great, and the attendants are trying their best. I read reviews about the loud music, and it seemed a more moderate level. However, it was still loud enough that my spouse could barely hear me without yelling. The tables along the sides are WAY too close together. Despite a reservation, we were the first to sat along the sides; it quickly filled in with other groups. Despite the wind and colder El Paso weather, a party next to us requested to be moved outside. For the price, I expected better. Yes, it was Valentine's Day and we were sat immediately with great service, but the food and proximity to others is a definite negative. Lola Rose is obviously attempting to be a fine dining experience, but it will come at the cost of sitting uncomfortably close to strangers and yelling to be heard in the name of "vibe dining." My husband and I made a reservation for dinner here. Upon arrival we were greeted and were sat literally right in front of the kitchen door, which was odd and kind of off putting. I don't want to see your dirty kitchen floor while I'm eating... I asked if they had seating elsewhere and they said no, even though there was clearly open 2 tops the entire time we were there and even when we left. I really don't get the Spanish/Mexican fusion because the menu does not represent any of that. It's more Mediterranean and even that falls short. To drink the server suggested The Noche en Acapulco as a refreshing cocktail. It looked nice when it came to the table but the coconut water was non existent and it tasted like water and tequila which was weird. We opted for tapas instead of entrees and tried a few. We had the raw oysters that came with lemon, vinegar, and the house cocktail sauce. The oysters were good, but lacked salt, and the cocktail sauce was extremely bland and unsatisfying. Next we had the octopus, which was probably the best thing we had. My only complaint is the hummus that comes under it, it really does not pair well with the octopus as it has a bit of a bitter flavor. I would of much preferred a Spanish rice or something else to compliment it. The octopus was extremely tender and well prepared. Then came the wagyu tartare which I was excited for until I tasted it. Apparently it had a lot of olives and it came on a slice of bread. The olives overwhelmed the taste of the entire tartare and that is pretty much all you could taste. We couldn't even tell there was anything else in there and we were glad it came on bread to at least break up the bitterness of the olives. Lastly we had the Mediterranean Bread which was okay and probably the second best thing we had after the octopus. We ended the night with the millennial wedding cake, which was actually pretty good other than we should of topped it with ice cream. Overall I like the vibe of this place and the service from our waiter was phenomenal. I would go back to give this place another chance and try some entrees. But for now the food at least the tapas need work, they lack substance and flavor as do the cocktails in my opinion. I really didn't want to try another cocktail because the first one was so bad and nothing really called my attention on the menu. Also that table right next to the kitchen door should maybe be removed or moved or be saved for people do that do not have reservations because it takes away from the dining experience. I was excited to take friends here for brunch during a girls weekend. I've eaten there before and loved the food, service & atmosphere. We walked in and waited to be be seated (surprisingly it wasn't very busy) and finally after 5 minutes a young man greeted us and said he'd be with us shortly. We sat there another 10 or so minutes as several waiters walked by without acknowledging us. Finally a young lady asked us if we've been helped and told us she'd get a table ready for us, but it would be another 5 minutes. Finally after being seated we had a pleasant waitress greet us with menus. She said she'd be back shortly to get our order. We waited patiently for another 10 or so minutes and at this point I was no longer waiting patiently and we politely walked out. So I've had a great experience eating there and then this.
