Our server was wonderful. We were there at an off time and she was literally hostess, waitress and bartender. I had a strawberry lemonade that was delicious. My husband had the bourbon and cherry and is still talking about it. They had a lunch special - 10 inch pizza for &12 which is what I ordered. I got the hot honey sriracha jalapeño chicken pizza and asked them to go light on the sriracha . It was delicious and filling. I took half home for lunch the next day. My husband was very happy with his veggie pizza. Definitely a place to check out. They have their own beers and also have a wine tasting area.

And just the normal, run of the mill beer. None of that fruity, hazy stuff. The ones I got were good. Damn good. I wish I had a designated driver so I could have tasted their Whisky Flight. I did buy some of their Ready to Drink cocktails for the hotel. I always judge a place by the likelihood I would return. If this weren't 13 hours away, the answer would be a resounding yes.

We started with the sauer kraut balls, pretzel with beer cheese, and pickle fries. All were delicious! The pickle fries have a great pickle to breading ratio, will gladly order these again! I went full toddler and ordered the chicken tenders and fries, they were exactly what I wanted and were a generous portion.

I ended up ordering a basic brat sandwich which was honestly not very good. It came on non toasted or grilled rye swirl bread. My friend and I split the sauerkraut balls which were small but fine. We both had ordered German Potato Salad only to be told after they were out. I ended up changing to the potato pancakes which I must say were delicious! They were side dish sized in diameter about 2 inches. I had never had them prepared this way but I did greatly enjoy them as a side. My friend had the wedge potatoes which were hot and plentiful in place of the potato salad. We both walked away full which was a win. I was just disappointed and or surprised by the minimal German options. I was hoping for different full meal options. I will give some slack on the potato salad being that it was a holiday weekend and staff was probably minimal and the patrons kept coming in while we dined. While in Oldenburg this restaurant is a must. Just a heads up if you are expecting authentic German meals you may not find what you are expecting.

The old Bavarian charm remains throughout the restaurant. Our visit this time was prior to the MJ MUSICAL at Old National. It's right across the street. The staff is well aware of their diner's itinerary and backs certain you can enjoy cocktails, wine, and dinner in time for the 7:00 pm start time. I applaud that courtesy. It was evident that our server, Cindy was a seasoned employee (20 years). Her attention throughout our visit left us wanting for nothing. I noticed many times her surveying our table for refills, empty plates. Her big smile and friendly personality only added to the exceptional experience. The food is prepared in the traditional German style. It is rich and very filling. The portions are enormous. Our party enjoyed an appetizer of Brat & Kraut balls and entrees of Schnitzel Parm., Jäeger schnitzel, spinach dinner salad with hot bacon dressing and my favorite "Oxtail Soup". Just the item for a cold winter night. Patrons of OLD NATIONAL CENTER shows should start their evening off right with dinner at THE RATHSKELLER. You won't be disappointed.

I ordered the Schnitzel and my guest ordered the Jagerschnitzel. Both looked good, unfortunately the meat was either tough or overcooked for both orders. The potato pancakes and applesauce sides were good. The highlight of the meal was the large soft pretzels and mustard that was provided instead of bread. Perhaps we caught them on a bad night, and are giving them the benefit of the doubt. The Biergarten had quite the crowd and would be worth a visit during Oktoberfest.
