The grilled cheese was very small and I think cheese got into the pan because it was also cooked onto the bottom side of the sandwich. It was a very small grilled cheese. The London fog tasted quite strong and the sugar pie didn't really stand out. There were other items on the menu though that I'd love to try if I ever go back. What I think took this down to 3 stars was the service. When I went to order, I was just stared at and I thought maybe they weren't ready for me yet but they were. There was just no greeting of "Hi, welcome in" or even a "What can I get for you?" It was just a stare and silence. Now the staff were not unkind...they certainly seemed friendly but that lack of greeting didn't feel great. Additionally, they were very quiet or mumbled when calling out orders and so it seemed like many people listening never heard their order including me. I also had to ask again for the pie after having paid. I bought a bandana as well and didn't see the price tag. When I asked how much it was the staff member said it was either 12 or 15 dollars. She rang it up as 15 when later I saw the price tag and it clearly said $12. I showed the staff member and she said it was $15 and it was a handwriting issue for the price tag. I rarely write reviews less than five stars but I do think if there could be a bit more initiative from the staff and orders called out more clearly and louder for drinks so they don't spoil that would really help.

I tried her cake at Skosh, a coffee shop in Garfield Park in Indianapolis, and loved very bite...and I'm not usually a cake person. But the flavors melded together so well and weren't overly sweet but rather robust. I'd been craving a Russian honey cake which is hard to find here and reminded me of my time overseas. When I asked Shelley (the baker) about doing this cake she hadn't tried it before but was up for the challenge. She went out of her way to source the unusual ingredients and went above and beyond in completing this cake for me! She even delivered it and was very gracious in asking for feedback to perfect her next round. I loved her approach and investment in doing it right and with high quality ingredients. And the cake is amazing! So light and with icing and the honey flavor which is just as I remember it. It is a hard cake to make with over 9 layers and various steps...very impressive! She took the time to let us know about the history, the quality of the local-sourced food, her personal recommendations for beer and food. She was exactly what we love about trying a new brewery and sitting at the bar. She let us try a few samples and we found some pretty good brews. These are lighter than our personal preference in craft brews, but they were delicious. The food was amazing. My husband had the burger and I had the Caesar salad. Very good!!!! The overall vibe of the brewery combines elements of history with the pride of keeping things fresh and modern. It's a really nice balance. The brewery is situated right on the river and once the boardwalk and construction is done, it's going to be beautiful!!!! It's still beautiful and the construction didn't affect us at all, but it's an exciting project that Sally told us about. Highly recommend stopping here for some food and drinks. We loved it and heard the brunch is the best around.

The building sits on the banks of Driftwood River (now called East Fork White River) and offers spectacular views of the famous Robert N. Stewart Bridge in Columbus, Indiana. Upland Brewing Company is a local brewery that started in Bloomington, Indiana in 1998. Now, they have a number of popular restaurants/pubs across Indiana. The building, built in 1871, served as the Pump House supplying water to the city of Columbus, Indiana. The Pump House faced financial, water and quality challenges over the years, but was instrumental in industrial growth of the city. The Pump House operated until 1950, when the city moved to well water. The Pump House served a number of businesses and organizations since 1950. Upland opened the pub in 2016. We were greeted and promptly seated in the bar when we entered. Our server/bartender, Jess, was attentive and friendly. Several other servers also engaged with us, as well. One brought me a fascinating pamphlet describing the history of the building because I was curious. We arrived in time to sample their 3:00 - 5:00 pm Happy Hour. (I love a good Happy Hour.) We ordered Dragonfly IPAs, which went down smooth on a hot summer day. We also enjoyed a couple of sliders from the Happy Hour menu. The Bad Elmer's Fav burger was good with lots of bacon but my favorite was the Hoosier Tenderloin. I should note that much of the food is locally sourced. The building has a large dining room, bar, private dining, private event room, and a fabulous patio with river views. The landscaping is gorgeous. Their signature beers are available for purchase to go along with the logo shirt and a few other logo items. I highly recommend a visit. The food and beer are first class. The setting is lovely and service is attentive.
