The best meal I've had in a restaurant in some time. In a world of cheap ingredients and meals that get old quick, here is an original spot with delicious, well crafted German cuisine, that consistently impressed with every bite. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel with kraut on the side. I enjoy a good kraut--this is the best I've had. The schnitzel was crispy and juicy and the mushroom gravy did its part to pull the dish together without overpowering it or making it bland. We visited on a Saturday evening, and were able to be seated right away. Our server was helpful, suggesting a dish for our picky toddler, and the food came out quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In the spirit of full disclosure, the house was not packed. We were one of 4 or 5 tables dining at the time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In sum, this is a restaurant that impressed me, and did a good enough job that I was inspired to write my first Yelp review. We were in Indiana visiting family and wanted to eat here because one of our favorite YouTubers had done the challenge. We came in the middle of the afternoon and it was empty. The server seemed dazed and confused. We asked him questions but he didn't seem to know anything. We absolutely love German food so we were excited. However, this wasn't really German food. First, how does a German restaurant not have German beer on tap? Then I ordered the schnitzel. It wasn't pounded out correctly and was too thick to be considered schnitzel. The breading had no seasoning. My husband (vegetarian) ordered the veggie melt, which was on the menu, but he was told they no longer make it. He ended up getting a "sides plate." When it arrived, there were 4 of the smallest portions of sides ever. Why not just make spaetzel a main dish? Voila, you have a vegetarian option! My daughter ended up getting a pretzel because the spaetzel she wanted had too many other ingredients in it for her liking. That's on us not the restaurant. What a fantastic little German gem I decided to take a road trip with my Mom as we both love German food and it was all that and more. The Jaeger schnitzel was hearty tender and delicious with a great crunch on the breading! Red cabbage was seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of sweet and tangy with a couple of Hintz of the spice. I'm not even sure what it was, but it was really awesome. If you get the Spaetzle and you're a traditionalist be sure to ask for it just the buttered version not the saucy white sauce, cheese version. I would definitely make the trip again and recommend it to anyone looking for a good German meal. The menu is a little bit limited, but I'm guessing everything they do is exquisite. Seymour is not a town with a lot of interesting food options, to say the least. I can recommend this place to the extent that at least you're not eating at a chain. But ultimately, it's just okay. Service was fast (perhaps too fast) and friendly. But our dishes were just okay. We didn't have a bad experience, but it's not a must dine, to say the least. read more

We decided to have our lunch meeting here today. The food and service were excellent.

Such a wonderful meal with the best host. I loved this restaurant. We got the perigees for our app. My husband got the schnitzel. My son got the wurst sampler. Decided to try this place for lunch on our way to Nashville, Brown County. When I called, I asked if there was a possibility to get perogies or potato pancakes at lunch...nope, but since Louisville has lost ALL German options. We stopped anyway. Wow...the service and atmosphere are great, but the food was amazing. We ordered the pretzel and beer cheese, potato soup, a brisket and sauerkraut sandwich (Reuben), and spatzle with Parmesan. Every bite was mouth-watering delicious!! The pretzel was slightly overdone, but the cheese was awesome. You could taste the beer and it had a good consistency. The potato soup was more like delicious mashed potatoes. There were red potatoes, some skins, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and chives. What made it even more tasty was a secret flavor. It was like a savory dessert in my mouth. The spatzle was like the most delicious mac and cheese you've ever tasted, and then the sandwich...yum! The brisket was cooked 18-19 hours (per the server), but it was juicy, but had some crispy edges. The sauerkraut was tangy and the rye bread was yummy. Overall an OK experience. The waiter could have known the menu better. Dragons milk fondue was a special, he could not tell me what dragons milk was not did he know what fondue meant. Giving 4 stars on food because the tenderloin was excellent! Thick with just enough breading! Beer batter fries were good but not sure why they use the term battered. They are seasoned at best. Pretzel was very good, the beer cheese was a tad pasty. The garden salad ($7) was not impressive. Spinach/ little romaine with 2 tomato slices and 3 slivers of onion. My wife's family are German immigrants. The food here is what I had become familiar with her family's cooking. Food was great. Service was excellent. I hate to post this because I want to keep it a secret but I can't. It's just so good. The history as the previous Chatterbox in downtown Seymour is fascinating. The food is obviously made from scratch and finish your plate worthy! I had the knack worst box lunch. The bun was no regular bun- toasted and hearty that stayed together with sauerkraut. The coleslaw was creamy and a perfect pie with the salty chips and pickle. My husband got the ham and cheese- no thin sliced deli meat here. It was a thick slice of ham and caramelized onion. The service was top notch. Erik showed the lay of the land so when we bring our friends we can share. Next time we'd like to come for dinner and try some of the many libations! We were there the day before Octoberfest so they were using a limited menu in expectation of large crowds. I had Bratwurst Poutine which was sliced brat covered with fries covered with cheese and curry laced ketchup. Absolutely delicious. My wife had Saurkraut soup and said it was delicious as well. Can't wait to go back and see what's offered on full menu. Also have full array of German and domestic beers. read more

Restaurant is small in space, but is in a cool building. Lots of options for beer. The menu was fairly limited at lunch time. There was maybe 4-5 entree options, so in our large party a lot of us got the same thing. I was a little bummed they didn't have any soup. Portions were large, so I had to get 1/2 of mine to go. Hardly consider this any type of German restraurant. No options for real German food at noon. What was available was not what I would consider German. Schnitzel never served on a bun. Usually served with some kind of sauce on it. What we did get was dry and overcooked read more

Tried this for the first time based on other reviews. The only thing I can say is if you like this "German" food, you've never had authentic German food. To begin I asked what type of sausages were in the Wurst platter. Our server said "typical German sausages". She had to go find out what actual types of sausages were in the platter. When the sausages arrived she didn't tell us which were which or explain the types of mustard. The jagerschnitzel was fine for a fried pork tenderloin, but not a schnitzel. It was a thick piece breaded pork tenderloin with very little gravy. The German potato salad was more like boiled potatoes without any seasoning. All in all the service was awful and the food was average non-German food at best. We were so hopeful but won't be going back. read more
