Not at all impressed. Sunday brunch and the place was relatively slow. $45 for 2 breakfasts which were cold and undercooked. When I returned poached eggs because egg whites were running all over the plate, the waiter to educate me on over easy vs over medium eggs. Told him that I didn't order either (eggs were poached) and regardless egg shite should not be "dripping". Regardless my wife was already done eating by the time he checked on us and she was already feeling queasy. Not sure of the cause, but wife barely made it home before "losing" her breakfast. Worst customer service i ever experienced in Texas. Got arrived at 10:05 AM and never bother to get my orders I need to call them after waiting 20 mins.l and it's not busy. But I'll give a 5 star for kitchen crew less than 10 mins mu food arrived and it was good. Yummy food. The four stars are just for the food. The service was ok... But the waiter talked badly about the owner for not updating the menu because they were out of many beers on the list. It's tacky to talk about the owner in that way the waiter should want the guests to have a positive experience. Anyway... He did do a nice job of when the fourth beer my husband asked for was also out of stock, he went ahead and brought another that was similar and that was fine. He also suggested the Tuna Wontons that we went for and were SO GOOD.... It's like if sushi were a nacho. Yum! Wasn't a huge fan of the crab cakes or fried rissoto balls, which were identical btw. Just differentiated by sauce they were served on and rather bland. The crab cakes were on this green whip that had zero flavor and added nothing to the dish but to keep them from rolling off the plate. My biggest complaint of the experience... ANTS! Ok so we sat outside... And yea we know bugs are to be expected outside in Texas... But a nice restaurant should make an effort to keep them away and I have eaten at many outdoor dining places and never experienced ants like this. From the strat when we went to sit down the waiter wiped them off the table... I was like oh ok... But by the end of our meal when waiting for the check they had taken over all around our plates it was awful! We finally got up because we couldn't sit there any longer... I even left with bites all over my feet that are itching like hell today. So they definitely need to do something about that. I'll go back but I will never done outside there again. I had brunch on their deck with some family this past weekend. The food was just *okay* and the service was relatively slow, but the ambiance at least made the experience worth it. One important thing though, is that their coffee was really bad -- it was super weak and watered down. It was like as if I was going to need 4+ cups of it to get the effect of a standard cup of medium roast. So perhaps they can work on their coffee and on expanding their brunch menu, as their brunch selection is quite small. Overall: not that bad, but not great. On 7/13/24 I went to Lola's and made a reservation for 15 people for 9/14/24. I made it very clear that this was to be a bridal luncheon. I asked if I needed to leave a deposit and was told no. I called at least 3 times to confirm the reservation. My family worked with the catering/event person, Jose Luis, to plan a set menu for everyone. When we called him on 8/22/24 to confirm the menu, he casually informed us he had another offsite gig on 9/14/24 and would not have enough staff for the restaurant and the event, so he was cancelling our lunch reservation. Our invitations had already been set, plans had been made, but he didn't care. He offered no apology. In the many times we communicated with restaurant staff and him, no one ever said there was another event they had to tend to. It was obvious he had recently taken on the event. He also made no effort to inform us. We called to confirm our menu and that's when he said he was cancelling. Needless to say, I will never step foot in this place again! I definitely won't miss it - poor customer service, very loud environment, overpriced mediocre food. read more

If there is anything negative to say about the place is that they could use some decor in the walls. But this is a very distant concern when you realize that Lola's has a top notch service and the food is of a grand quality I did not expect. Let me start with this place is a whole vibe!!! The music was We arrived without reservations and they said the wait was up to 40 minutes. We laughed and said perfect. DFW waits are 1.5 hours. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The manager poured me a iced coffee while I waited and it was delicious. We started with biscuits Mom orders the house breakfast I ordered Avocado toast friends had the chicken and waffles as well as the smoke salmon flat bread , we I did not take pictures it was too good for me to stop. Last night was our first dinner at Lola's. Friends had recommended and we were not disappointed! Lots of unique offerings on the menu. We had the beet salad (beets, goat cheese, grapefruit, orange with a red - prickly tuna? - purée). Even though it was sweeter than I prefer, it was delicious! We started with the crab cakes. They were actually formed into balls and deep-fried. They were reminiscent to something we would have gotten in Mexico when we used to cross the bridge - and something we will definitely have again. My shrimp risotto was a bit too cheddar cheesy but there were lots of other things I want to try. Creme brûlée ended our evening perfectly. read more

Exceptional and unexpected for many reasons. The menu offered a tempting array of appetizers, small and larger plates, and drinks. Waiter Francisco was extremely helpful and welcoming. The buratta salad was superb, rarely seen on menus. We learned from charming Lola that the buratta was sourced from San Antonio! Francisco's suggestion of seared tuna on wonton was much appreciated: unusual and delicious! Lamb meatballs with Calabrian chile offered another unusual, tasty treat with Nan bread. Other breads, made in-house, were especially good. And the unusual, crispy shrimp dish my wife ordered was to die for. Too full to try a tempting dessert. Note: the back area of the restaurant is lovely, including an outdoor seating area with a fine view. My rating is a 5+. read more

My friend in the town recommended me to visit this place. When I first went, I loved the atmosphere in the restaurant. I have not seen many places like this around this area. I went during weekday lunch and there was a separate lunch menu from the dinner and weekend brunch. We ordered the rigatoni pasta and steak churrasco. The rigatoni was a bomb. It was so perfectly cheesy/creamy, which was the best one I had in a while. The steak was juicy and good but I saw nothing too special. Other thing about this place was the service. (I drink it black so i don't know if that makes a difference to some) the only complaint I might have is the wait time but I did go on a busy Sunday. First time going here. Service was attentive and friendly. I had the avocado toast with salmon, which was delicious although I am not sure I would have it with the salmon again. The other breakfast options looked good as well. The cheesecake was well received and the carrot cake was moist although it looked a bit small next to the cheesecake. I went there today for brunch and ordered the chicken and waffles. Very well served and the taste was amazing. A bit too much syrup for my liking. This is one of my favorite places to have lunch in town. Their Brie Melt sandwich is deliciously decadent with sweet and strong flavors. But it's a $9 sandwich, which might be a turn off for some people, but I think it's totally worth it. Also, place is gorgeous and it has a nice view if you sit on the back. We made a reservation last night on a recommendation. The stars are based on the dinner portion of the meal not service or atmosphere. The atmosphere was nice, great server but the food was well, how can I explain it. The appetizers were beyond amazing. We had crab cakes and the tuna aghuai(ceviche). As we scanned the menu for what to eat my wife and I both look at the 6oz filet towards the bottom of the menu for $25. I ordered mine medium rare and my wife medium well. Mine came out medium well and my wife was about well done. We didn't send them back we just thought we would enjoy the meal. The steak had a sauce that was mixed with mushrooms. The steak really didn't have flavor to it. The mashed potatoes were just your run of the mill mashed potatoes no seasoning of any kind. And the asparagus was just basic. We felt the plate was not worth the 25 dollars of the plate. When the server asked how our steaks were we mentioned they were a little over cooked. My wife said that when the server brought it up to the manager from what we said about he steals it seemed like he blew the server off. We were not trying to get any free meals just trying to let them know. We will give it another shot and try something else on the dinner menu. read more

Service was great! I loved the atmosphere and choices of wine. My only complaint was the filet mignon steak I ordered came topped with a brown gravy that tasted a lot like the brown gravy that goes on a Salisbury Steak. I felt that it hindered the taste of the steak and all I could taste was the gravy. Hopefully they will change the recipe for this dish. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now and unfortunately choose Valentine's Day to do so. I say unfortunately because of the set menu that was presented to us once being seated! This was not going to I've me the choices I had already chosen as my meal but I rolled with it. Atmosphere is great! Service was awesome! But...I had to immediately ask them to blow out a candle that was overwhelming (gardenia scented) the entire room. I was there to Samek yummy food not flowers . Cocktails were delicious. Everything else was so so. Tuna and avocado appetizer was disappointing. Small pieces of tuna, way too much avocado. Sauce was good, but doesn't make up for the lack of the main ingredient, & chips were stale as well. The crab cakes (balls), again , only so so. Nothing special and needed more of the spicy sauce that was drizzled on top to give some flavor. It was all mushy inside. Hated the avocado mush underneath the balls. Didn't do anything to add to the already bland flavor. Main dish was the best. Steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. So good it didn't need the cheese on top ( this I also found strange), but of well, it was delicious. Sides of mashed potatoes, a few pieces of asparagus and a few leaves of spinach...were all good too but if you're menu says severed with sautéed spinach, I generally expect more than 5 leaves . All this said, steak and cocktails saving the meal, I will go again and try the menu items I originally wanted and hope to fair better! They overcharged me at the end, they said the items had been removed from my ticket, once I did the math and showed them items overcharged, they couldn't do the refund. Every time I have eaten here, it has taken no less than an hour and a half to get in and out. They are also always out of everything. How are you out of turkey for weeks at a time? There only seems to be one person in the kitchen making everything and servers come by once and then forget about you. Every time I've been here I've had servers apologizing for slow service. We were in Brownsville visiting family and met up with some people for a holiday happy hour at Lola's Bake Shop. We sat outside on the deck, which was lovely. The weather was perfect and the service was great. We had a server for food and one for the bar. I'm not sure if that's standard or because we had a large party. They have a full bar and several specialty cocktails (variety of margaritas, martinis). They also have a good amount of food options from tapas to sliders. We ordered some appetizers and everything was pretty tasty. Very reasonably priced too, particularly for the portion sizes. Overall...if you're looking for a fun place to grab cocktails with your friends, I highly recommend you give Lola's a try. read more

Disappointing first experience at Lolas Bistro. After about 15/20mins and seeing tables who came in after us get their food; our waiter comes to us and tells us, "I'm sorry, what did you order again, it seems like they lost the little paper thing in the back." That should have been our sign to just say forget it. But I had been wanting to stop by and we just got out of school, so we gave our order again: Eggs Benedict and Salmon Bagel. Hubby was disappointed bc his bagel sucked and was chewy. My biscuit was already soggy when i got it (I've had eggs Benedict many times and have never gotten a soggy biscuit like that). We ate and i asked for the check. It took another 10mins just to get the check and give our card and leave... maybe it's because we didn't speak Spanish, maybe we were judged bc of how we were dressed.
