This place is only open for breakfast and lunch. On Mondays they offer Paella (see photo). The chips and salsa are fresh and delicious. Tuesday is advertised as Italian buffet for same price. Clean restroom, nice decor. The wait staff all wear collared shirts. Nice selection of 80's American music hits: tainted love, what's love got to do with it, against all odds, etc. The Paella was ok. Great hidden gem! Very family friendly! Went there for lunch with a party of 9, a toddler, 2 kids, a teenager and 5 adults, we all left very happy. The food was okay, if not a little too salty. My husband ordered the carne guisada and what he got looked like beef stew. I ordered the entomatadas with just cheese and they were pretty good. Good customer service and the food was A+ I had some enchiladas with ground beef and they were definitely awesome. To drink I had cucumber & pineapple water and I wanted some more but could not finish my food because I drank my water first. Be careful with the hidden charges, we were charged 1.20 for adding literally a little bit of beans to my breakfast taco, 1.25 for a flour tortilla( we had ordered a lunch plate and we were given the option of flour or corn, she made it sound like it was interchangeable) it was never mentioned to us that one was more expensive than the other one. We were charged two coffees even though I was the only person with a cup. And 0.25 cents for the to-go box. None of the charges were not mentioned to us beforehand. Always a busy place, but service is not terrible, considering the amount of clients each waitress takes care of. read more

Chef Ricardo is hands down the very best LEGITIMATE Mexican/International Chef in the country! I do not exaggerrate when I say this man has life-changing food. Lunch is perfect because it's a buffet that includes all kinds of delicious Mexican and International food. You must try his chile rellenos, fajitas, FRIED SHRIMP, and enchiladas. Each bite will leave you wanting more. Chef Ricardo is a very personable man and will probably introduce himself to you while you eat. Along with his mind blowing Mexican food is his creamy chicken and other catering type foods for weddings, graduations. etc. There is NOTHING bad at this at place. The ambiance is great not too small or too big. It makes you feel like you are not in the valley and experiencing cusine in a big city. The desserts are amazing too. We love Ricardo's and have been to his new location 3 times now in the week that we are in Brownsville. He's now located at 425 E. 10th St, off of Elizabeth St, near downtown. Open for breakfast and lunch only, very friendly staff and Ricardo often comes out to greet you. AND, they are always busy, the best sign of a good restaurant! Most often we were the only gringos in the restaurant, another good sign as far as I'm concerned :-) if I'm looking for good Mexican food. read more

This is a very special place to dine. The waitresses are friendly and attentive. The owner is very friendly also and is often in the dining room to greet customers. The restaurant is clean and the service is fast. The food is mostly Mexican and quite delicious. Many customers are local office workers and public servants and the place is usually busy. If you order one of the breakfast specials , you get coffee free. If you order one of the lunch specials , you get soup and salad bar included. Parking is on the street or at one of the 5 or 6 spots across the street from the restaurant. The restaurant only serves breakfast and lunch and closes at 3 PM. On Saturdays there is a breakfast buffet until 12:30 PM. Closed on Sundays. I am a visitor to Brownsville and highly recommend this establishment. My wife and I have gone to eat there several times while in the city. We have never been disappointed. My wife especially liked the shrimp and fish basket , the milanesa and the flour tortillas (made there). read more

It was not busy when we went for lunch but the service was slow and the cokes were flat. After waiting forever and finally flagging down the waitress she brought us new soft drinks that were also flat. Again having to flag her down to tell her they were flat too she just said oh sorry. Never did get a good coke and was not offered anything else. When we got the check they were actually charging us for the drinks ($2 each). That's not right. The food was so so, not great.
