BBQ Pork Skewer, Lumpia, and Magu Magu
    Rob S.

A hidden gem along I-55! Was driving to Springfield and found this great spot along the way. Well worth the visit. Ordered the lumpia, bbq pork with an extra skewer, and the Magu Magu drink (mango juice with fruit pieces inside). I've been to a few Filipino restaurants and I will say Lola's lumpia were the best I've had. Served with a lightly spicy dipping sauce, they were crispy, warm, and really good! The BBQ pork skewers were served over rice and were perfectly cooked. If you have a decent appetite, I definitely recommend ordering the extra skewer as I wouldn't have found two skewers to be enough. The pork was not chewy, came off the skewer with an easy tug, and left a little sauce on the rice. Served with a vinegary dipping sauce which gave the perfect blend of a sweet sauce and a little acidity. Tried a Magu Magu drink which was really good and washed down the food perfect. I'll be heading back through Pontiac on my way home and will stop by again to try more. And then when I make my periodic trips downstate, will be by again and again. Salamat!

    Rice was good

Great place. Was very impressed with the barbecue pork skewer kabobs, the flavors were intense and flavorful. Casual inside dinning food was great.

So happy that Lola's is along the way home from EIU. Stopped by for late lunch. Everything we ordered were delicious. I had the lechon with rice. Made crisp and the archara and vinegar sauce made the meal complete. My husband had the adobo wings with rice. Looked really good too! My daughter ate up the longsilog really fast. My other daughter ordered the poke and fries. She was pleased. Our drinks were perfect. The calamansi was refreshing and the Thai tea hit the spot. They were friendly and the cost of the food was just right. The restaurant was clean and airy. More customers came in as we were finishing our meal. The place did not feel over-crowded. Kudos to the owner! We got to meet her. Very kind and welcoming.

I went once for lunch and the chicken wings were fabulous. Perfectly deep fried and more importantly not over cooked. I also had lumpias and pork skewers. It was all pretty decent albeit on the salty side. Overall, I remembered how perfect the chicken wings were. I raved about the chicken wings to my friends at work and so they went with me for dinner on a different day. This turned out to be a very different experience than the previous time. We had two orders of chicken wings and they were completely dry. The meat was either over cooked or re-cooked but it was absolutely terrible. Two of us ordered ramen and we both felt it was far too salty. If they cut the salt by about 75%, that would be closer in the ballpark for my tastes. The spam is a good touch though. It tasted sweet compared to the saltiness of the broth. For dessert, I've tried the shaved ice and the tapioca bubble tea. The shaved ice dessert was too far too sweet for my liking but I'm going to guess that kids will like it. The Ube boba tea was reasonable. The tapioca pearls were not fully cooked however.

I was in town for a business trip and found this place on Yelp. So glad I stopped by here. The Chef recommended the crispy pork and pork skewers. They were so tasty!!! I also ordered the Halo2 ice, but it was too sweet for me. Next time I'm in Pontiac, IL, I will definitely stop by here again!

Well, I still haven't tried the Ramen but today I tried the Pork Belly Adobo Tacos and the Popcorn Chicken with K-Sauce. Great meal for sure. The Pork Belly Adobo Tacos are easily the best tacos in Pontiac. The Popcorn Chicken was delicious. K-Sauce was awesome but you get your choice so pick and enjoy. I could argue that with the K-Sauce, this is the best Chicken on Pontiac. Garlic Rice is the best Rice in Pontiac as well so you tell me...is this a good place to eat? I still want to try the ramen but so far so good. Friendly service seems to be a given at Lola's. This is a place that you need to try.

They have a huge selection of foods predominantly from China, South Korea, and Japan. I have seen some Indian, Vietnamese, and Filipino stuff though including a generous section of spices and whatnot. The prices are quite affordable and they have a great assortment of fresh produce, deli foods like ready to eat kimbap or squid salad, baked goods, pick your own hotpot items, and fresh bbq (put out at 11am). Their staff is super friendly and diverse (a sign at the entrance touts the multilingual abilities of the staff). They seem to have everything including more niche ingredients and even live seafood! I also appreciate that they freshly butcher meat to sell unlike other stores like Amko that freeze it all. There's also a home goods section with cute bowls, makeup, and other stuff. This is all relatively close to campus too and worth the trip. It's also right next to Golden Harbor, which is a plus. I found out about their membership card. You get 1 point per dollar spent and it builds up - it seems handy especially if you shop here frequently. They are still in the opening stage but hopefully the food court will open up soon!

Red dates, Gogi Berry, ginger tea, kimchi, Vita drinks, matcha soymilk, miso paste, whole wall of lee kum kee sauces, japanese candies, Korean banana milk, coffee milk, instant noodles, and much more. Their fresh produce was a bit low in stock but they had Taiwan and Napa cabbage and fresh ginger. Inside seems clean and there is parking right outside of the market. Cashier was really friendly. There is a membership to earn points to redeem for coupon. Don't forget to grab some Japanese or Korean instant coffee packs and special lays flavored chips! Those are so good.

It is a quaint store with a variety of Filipino items, produce, and frozen foods. In the back is where the food is and they were out of the pork belly by the time we arrived. We bought some barbecue ribs and the last of the barbecue chicken wings. They also gave barbecue sauce to go with it. The barbecue ribs and chicken were good. The ribs were really tender and there was a hint of spice in them, but not overbearing. We are unsure if they make their own barbecue sauce, but it was just as delicious. I spoke with one of the ladies there and she said on Saturdays, they will have more food aside from the pork belly, ribs, and chicken wings. All I can remember is brisket. I wish we were going back tomorrow just so we can try it. But, next time we are in Highland, we definitely will!
