While I do stop in often for produce and haven't had any issues there, the food from the taqueria inside the store is enough to drop my review from 4 to 2 stars. We stopped by a few days ago for some burritos. We got asada and chicken. The chicken burrito was awful. For starters, the burrito was super dry. We asked for salsa and while there was some in the bag, no salsa made it inside the burrito. The rice and beans were okay but they chicken was so dry. It tasted like it had been made 3-4 days ago and was just being reheated. Very little flavor as well. I couldn't take more than a few bites. I didn't try the asada burrito because I don't eat red meat, but my mom had similar comments about the asada being dry as well. As mentioned, the burritos did come with salsa on the side but that wasn't any good either. The salsa heavily lacked flavor. The burritos came with chips which were just as dry as the chicken. I'm giving this place two stars because while I do like the store, the taqueria was disappointing enough to bring a 4 star place down to a 2. I don't recommend the food and I definitely won't order from the taqueria again. read more

Then hung up so I called back and again she hung up on me then the third time I asked to speak to the meat counter who spoke English and he hung up on me. A friend had mentioned Lola's as a great place for produce and Latin American cooking supplies so next time I was in the area I made a point of stopping by. They do have a nice produce section with great prices. They also have nice bakery, meat and fish departments. As I was looking at the fish I noticed some ceviches a little further down the case. I judge Latin markets by how their pan (bread/pastries) is... And Lola's is super tasty. They always have a large variety and it always tastes fresh. Sadly they were out of my niño envueltos (looks like a red jelly roll topped with coconut flakes) but man they still had a really good selection for me!!! I went home with 6 pieces (pineapple filled, a choco and regular butter muffins, etc). My lil Mexican self was happy. I honestly came for canela sticks (real cinnamon, powder doesn't cut for my use) for my arroz con leche, I found them pretty quickly with all the other spices. I love the restaurant, produce section, and bakery. I used to live in Florida and this store has many things I used to buy there. Goya products and other tropical groceries can be found here. I love their plantains and coconut products. The prices for churros and other baked goods aren't bad either, they haven't changed much in the last few years. They have a lot of good Mexican pastries and cakes that can't be found in regular grocery stores. The churros don't seem to be fried enough though. I have ordered many times from the restaurant and I do not recommend making extra requests. Often the cashiers will not make any note of it or remember it. I have asked for burritos to be fried but when I take it home it's not fried and the inside is cold. I love the combo plates and shrimp tacos. read more

This ethnic market and cafe is quite unique. One could find many south of the border ingredients and ready to eat food - including pastries. Fresh veggies and fruits are also available - some weekly specials are great values. The one thing that prevents it from a higher rating is customer service. A couple of the cashiers do not even greet or engage. You would observe that it is the customers who say thank you instead of the cashiers. Similarly, the workers at the cafe always put on a straight face. I like this market because you can everything you need in one place. Meats, salsa, desserts... The restaurant is the reason for the 2 stars. The girl working on the counter was not friendly and I ordered 10 tacos and got home to only find 6. I couldn't go back to pick up the rest of my meal and they couldn't refund the amount... I thought it was only me, but my wife shops separate from me and she said the same thing a couple times, then I took notice. Funny seeing how she talked me into that place because she liked the restaurant. There are a couple things priced ok, but most things are way over priced. But man, no matter how nice you greet them these people are just miserable. Now, the restaurant is separate rating, they are ok, but the meet counter is the worst miserable people on the planet, my wife said the same thing. Last two times my stomach let me know, there is just something wrong. Never again, this place is for people from Mexico that may be used to a lower quality, no offense meant I am part Mexican. Lolas is garbage, watch the meet counter people like a hawk, or better yet don't trust it. I don't know why I gave them so many chances, I'm an idiot for that. But every time you just meet miserable people. Last time the idiot wanted to charge me 2 dollars a pound to run it through the grinder. So for 10 pounds that is an extra twenty bucks for chicken that is horrible anyhow. I walked over to the bakery and got a few of the breads; When I went home to eat my food; the man that serviced me at the food counter put two slabs of fat and dried out skin and only two small pieces of carnitas! I was so furious; I drove back with the fat and dried out skin and told the manager. She saw that I was upset and acted as though she couldn't refund my money! In astrological terms, this senorita is a Gemini of the highest order. 1) This is a market, bodega or a whatchamacalit with ridiculously low-priced and outrageously high-priced regular food items, along with staples from shopping south of the U.S. border. The service is breathtakingly slow. There aren't enough checkout lanes to sustain a rush or busyness at this business. And when you get stuck, good luck. 2) They serve hot food and a have an outdoor grill. You can get elotes, mini-tacos, burritos and a bunch of other delicious food that takes forever to be ready. Yet, it's totally worth the wait. Oh my, it's great coming from a grocery market and more than makes up for the sloth-like conditions trying to shop here. Lots of specials and of course a far better and well priced selection of Latin American foods than Safeway or Raley's. Their meats are also quite good. I have been waiting for this market to open up, and when I finally was able to go in, I was definitely pleased. The staff is friendly and helpful. The produce was beautiful, I purchased avocados for a very reasonable price. There is an assortment of freshly baked Mexican breads, the meat department offers a vast amount of meat products and it didn't stink like most supermarket meat departments- which means it was fresh. My first visit to Lola's for a carnitas burrito. I was not disappointed! I ordered the super burrito with everything except hot sauce. I didn't know how hot it would be so I left it off and grabbed some of the salsa verde from the salsa bar. This thing was HUGE... I ate half for dinner and the other half for lunch the next day. It had plenty of meat, beans, rice, avocado, salsa and sour cream. They give you a bag of crispy chips and you can take what you like from the salsa and condiment bar. Lola's is a cool place on the main drag that is McDowell Boulevard. It's a nice, clean, spacious Mexican market with a taqueria in front. If you need a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe embracing Pope John Paul II, this is the place to go. They have several different brands of chipotle sauce. If you need the aphrodisiac damiana tea, this place has it. They carry locally made Clover milk... but at much lower prices than Whole Foods. On weekends, they barbecue chicken outside and it's delicious. It's a taste of Mexico in what was once the Spanish Empire. read more
