Went into the shop just to browse around with friends and once I heard the good advice the folks at the shop were giving my friends, I started chatting with them too. One thing I'd been struggling with the day before was my goggles - it was consistently cloudy and low light day 1. But my low light lenses were all sorts of scratched up. When I asked for what the options were for low light lenses, I was surprised that the woman behind the counter started with a practical $40 pair of goggles. So many other spots would start with the $240 pair, but she didn't. And in the end, I ended up with the pair that she "swore by" - some transition lenses by Bolle for $150. And, as promised, they were awesome! The next two days I could see well in low light and medium light. Still haven't tried them in bright / full sun, but I'm delighted by the recommendation and appreciate the folks at Lone Mountain! read more

Love this shop. Been our go to on trips to Big Sky. Great location makes it perfect for demo'ing skis. Easy to ski up to the back door and trade out. But even better than the location is the staff. Buyer Beware! Their demo ski program, where they credit 2 days towards the purchase is a scam. They purposefully increase the price of their ski over msrp retail cost by $140, so actually you are renting the demo skis, and still pay $25 over the msrp, plus the cost of the demo, if you want to purchase. My problem is they are sneaky and dishonest instead of being up front about their deciptive retail practices. But I guess that is part for the course in big sky, over charge and under deliver. I guess the only way to make a profit in this town is to cheat. read more

Boot fitting happens here. I love my ski boots. They're comfortable and perform well but I've developed a bruise under one of my big toes. This is the third place I've taken my boots. The other two evaluated the fit and made helpful adjustments. However, Morgan from Lone Mountain made a quick diagnosis that really made perfect sense. He stretched the liner in a way that the other two did not. It cost $10. Considering that my alternative was to buy replacement liners which would have cost over $200, I'm grateful for his knowledge and integrity. read more

Top notch experience with a business. I am an Ikon Base pass holder and while not over budgeting, not looking to spend unnecessary costs. The first way they were helpful is I emailed with them prior to my arrival with regards to renting equipment for my girlfriend. They emailed me back an affordable cost with a 20% discount code. While visiting the store, the owner, Carey provided local's dining recommendations. She also found us real estate in her ski locker room for nightly storage, which is 50% of the mountain cost at the base. The staff was very friendly. Ski and boot rentals worked out great. We rented our skis from here during our trip to Big Sky and were very happy with the experience. Lone Mountain's website has a reservation form that we filled out prior to our trip but no one at the rental counter seemed to care about that. The rental equipment appeared to be in good shape and reasonably priced. The actual process of getting gear was slightly slower and less efficient than I've seen at other rental shops but we still got in and out quite quickly. Equipment return was very easy and fast. Two of us brought back our group's skis, they were quickly checked back in and we were done. It was nice not to have to spend a lot of time giving back gear at the end of the trip. If it was just the rental shop I'd say Lone Mountain Sports is closer to four stars than five but the store they have upstairs was fantastic. I was finally convinced to buy a ski helmet this year and the salesperson I dealt with was really great about helping me find one that fit well and was comfortable. Prices appeared to be at regular retail levels, not inflated like I'd expect them to be at a ski resort. It's good to know that if you need to make a last minute equipment purchase you can get it from a store that has a good staff and is reasonably priced. read more

I have enormous gratitude for the fine folks at Lone Mountain Sports. Scott spent so much time with me finding a ski boot solution for a complex foot issue. I have a dramatic Achilles scar (keloid) which has prevented me from wearing ski boots/hiking boots/ etc because it immediately turns into a huge raw blister that doesn't heal for weeks. Scott was patient and insisted I come back throughout the day, throughout the week until he had a perfect custom boot liner for me. There was no up-sell (far from it!) like you'd expect from a shop right on the mountain. Instead of selling me a new pair of boots, he actually sold me a used rental boot so that I could invest in custom boot liners that he perfected for me. He's just an incredibly honest, kind person and about as Montanan as you can get. My family will use them for everything in the future. They're awesome people and have an amazing selection of goods. I picked up a new ski helmet while I was there as well and again, they helped to me find a perfect fit. read more

Fantastic selection of skis. Recently rented some upper-end skis for myself and 2 teens to avoid the hassle and cost of flying with our equipment. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. We all switched skis at somepoint during the trip to better match snow conditions. When most shops try to get rid of their gear before the end of the year, thus depleting the selection, LMS had plenty to choose from. I highly recommend this shop and their great crew. read more

Great customer service! I've had trouble with my boots for several years and tried 2-3 pairs through the demo service on the mountain without finding a type that worked. Lone Mountain Sports spent the day with me to find a pair that fit and to help with the arch support that really made them a success. Let me demo the boots to make sure they worked and were super flexible as I tried them out on the mountain and returned for tweaks multiple times. Don't believe I would have been satisfied with any boot without this superb service. Really appreciated Sam and his help with the search. If you are having issues, this is the place to go! read more

This place was just outstanding to us. We rented our skis, boots and helmets here for our week at Big Sky. They work with you. If you are ever uncomfortable, they do everything they can to change that. We also did a full day ski lesson with Paul Atkins. Professional and Caring Long story short - they assisted in my decision to rent a similar ski, repair a blown edge vs buying a new pair. (Even consulted with the staff for a day over the repair - it was major) My Volkl RTM 84 is still servicable and the total pricing was unbelievably reasonable. This is a first class professional shop staffed by very good people. Two of our party had issues with our own boots and were lucky enough to go to Lone Mountain Sports (very conveniently located at the base). We each had a different guy help us and were both extremely impressed with their knowledge, friendliness and willingness to take time to investigate the problem, suggest solutions and a graduated approach to solving the issues, all at a very reasonable price. In addition, you pay once and they keep working on adjustments until your problems are solved. I've already recommended them to friends who are going to Big Sky later this year. read more

Lone Mountain Sports has the best customer service of any ski shop I have ever been to. If you need to buy or rent ski equipment while in Big Sky you have to go see these folks. I spent 3 days trying new ski boots on the slopes. That's right they have you ski in the boots, and not just walk around in the shop before you spend a lot of money. After 3 days of skiing in new boots they finally let me pay them for all of the work they did, but they would not let me go without a full binding adjustment and release check on my skis that they did as part of the boot purchase, and not an extra fee. This shop has it all! Great merchandise, extremely friendly people, rentals, demos, etc. I am a beginner to skiing, and they helped me find just the right ski and boot! The boot fitters molded my boots to fit perfectly! I also had a knee flex issue and the boot fitting team worked together to fix my boots! They were so patient when I changed my mind and continued to try skis. Great shop! Also cool that you can ski in/out for bar & restaurant access so you can avoid the chaos of the Mountain Mall. read more

Their ski equipment is better than the resort's equipment, but the board equipment was not as nice. You can usually get a coupon for 25% off their rental rates through your lodging management which makes rental gear significantly cheaper than the resort's rental shop. Location is just to the south of the main resort entrance, so it's a very convenient location as well. read more

Good as it gets. I purchased ski boots on Lone Mt Sport's year end sale in spring of 2016 in warm weather. Months later, in cold December my aging feet were cold. The people in Lone Mt Sports were excellent in making a number of adjustments to the boots as well as providing advice on circulation to extremities (I turn 65 this season) for older skiers. All as part of the original sale (no charge). This has extended my enjoyment and the weather I am comfortable skiing in. Thank you. read more
