Very well-maintained nursery tucked away on the south side of town just a couple minutes from Gravenstein Highway South. They have an amazing collection of healthy plants, succulents, cacti, bonsai trees as well as numerous greenhouses you can walk through filled with all kinds of potted plants. Their selection is varied and not what you would normally see at other nurseries. I've noticed their plants at other stores so they wholesale as well. When the weather is nice, it is a peaceful quiet place to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the property. Their employees are always very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It's hard to walk away without a new green friend in your arms. Parking could be tight on Saturdays. Open limited days and hours. read more

I had this great idea to give Bonsai plants as gifts to a team that helped with a campaign. Little did I know how difficult it would be to actually find a nursery that specialized in Bonsai. I searched most of the east bay and finally got a few recommendations from expert plant growers to head up to Sebastopol and visit Lone Pine Gardens. Almost an hour and a half drive and the entrance is just a gate off on Lone Pine with only a couple of places to even park on the narrow road. But definitely worth the drive if you're looking for a variety of Bonsai at different stages and for incredibly reasonable prices. Lone Pine has a fantastic variety of species, stages, and styles of Bonsai plants and trees. What I liked l most was the variety of prices and sizes. Most places charge an arms and a leg but an early bonsai here is close to half the price at other places. The bonus was the nice variety of succulents. A bit out of the way, but the best place to shop for bonsai and browse succulents and other potted plants. read more

Walking into Lone Pine for someone beginning to delve into bonsai, is like walking into a wonderland of beautiful scenery and everything one could want including the owners and their pups, all of whom were as friendly as could be. Steve showed tremendous patience with me and answered what I believe could have been eye rolling questions, with absolute pleasure. On a visit, you will find everything from established and stunning bonsai to all sorts of starters and succulents to almost overwhelm you. If you're looking for Japanese garden trees, they are there too and there is no comparison to a big box store's selection if that look is what you are after. I would say comparing their plants/trees to anything you find in a commercial garden center is apples to oranges, these are purpose grown with a lot of attention to detail and love. Bonsai Pots....lots of pots, glazed unglazed, small to large, I was in heaven since that is not something one never finds just anywhere! I am so happy we discovered them in our own backyard, Sonoma county and west county in particular is a treasure trove of good stuff and people. This family owned business is case in point. read more

A fabulous nursery of cactus, succulents and bonsai. Their bonsai plants are sold in many plant shops in the Bay Area but the actual nursery's selections are amazing to behold. I came looking for ume and sakura today, as my miniature trees bit the dust recently. They had several varieties to choose from and beyond these there were tiny maple, quince, cedar, pine, oak, ivy, azalea, and all manner of miniature grasses and flowering bushes. At checkout, there was a couple purchasing several cacti that reminded them of their home in Arizona. The drive along the Gravenstein Highway is quite lovely; the nursery is located on a country lane off the main road. read more

July 5, 2018 Came back again and they have different selections from our last time in 2016 , I just notice they have some red and yellow plum trees , Apple and possible Asian pear trees in the premises and the plums looks ready to be picked. We came to see if they have some rare cacti or succulents, but over the years we have most of them in our collection. I love Lone Pine Gardens. It is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth it. We visited Lone Pine Gardens a few months back looking for air plants and succulents. My son wanted to make terrariums for his teachers for the Holidays. It's a wonderful places with greenhouses full of goodies. It probably has more types of succulents that you can think of and bonsais too. We ended up with succulents, air plants and an incredible staghorn fern. Not only are the plants great, the owner and lady working there are wonderful. My 10 year old learned so much about succulents and air plants during the couple of times we were there. He now has a mini collection of succulents and air plants. The owner is terrific. He went above and beyond. I dropped my wallet in the parking lot on a Saturday without realizing it til much later. They are closed on Sundays, so I thought I'll swing by on Monday to look for it. The owner got my address from my driver's license and came by my house to drop it off. Wow! That was a great surprise! I truly appreciated it. I was fully expecting to have to cancel all my credit cards and make a trip to DMV. Forget San Francisco.... I left my heart in lone pine gardens! This place can entertain me for hours. Iam addicted to succulents, and they have by far the most exotic variety of them. Not to mention beautiful cacti! I mean I actually find it hard to control myself while Iam there. I'm ooohing and awewing at every corner. Their selection of bonsai are to die for. You can see the art and love put into each one! Some of them are true masterpieces. I found the little touches at Lone Pine to really grab my attention. Like in the bonsai greenhouse, they have a please don't disturb the hard working frogs sign. Or the countless abalone shells scattered with little pebbles. This place is my husband's dream. They have a bountiful selection of succulents and cacti to choose from. Their hours are odd, as previously stated but they are open on Saturdays, just not Sundays. So not too bad. We usually only come here for the succulents and cacti but I know the other selection of plants they have is supposed to be great as well. The owners are super nice, informative and don't charge up the guzoo for their plants. It is a fun way to spend the day, hit up Lone Pine, grab a burger at Sequoia and enjoy the beautiful west county scenery. read more

I went to Lone Pine because I've been starting to take up bonsai and wanted to get material that wasn't grossly overpriced. Lone Pine had a great selection, and at all levels of development, from very cheap cuttings / seedlings to couple year old stock (gallon containers tended to be around $10) to somewhat older stock that had had some shape work done, and then fully developed trees. The selection was great as well--they had a bunch of stuff that id only ever seen online. Best part though was the help i got. Janet, one of the owners, walked the yard with me and helped me think about what was worth getting to get started, how to go about developing what i got, etc. She was extremely helpful, and way more patient with me than i could have hoped for. The ladies at Lone Pine were so amazing in helping me find the perfect succulents for my wedding. We even told them what kind we wanted months before and they told us we could set them aside and they would nurture and care for them until we picked them up a couple days before the wedding. They even helped me pick the right succulents to make my bouquet. I even used a few for my wedding cake. If you're interested in Bonsai - taking the drive out to Lone Pine Gardens is a no brainer. This is the place to go for small seedlings, pots, pre-bonsai, or ground matured aged trees. Selection is amazing. All the folks working on-site were immensely helpful, and even spent time walking through the (thousands) of trees to help me find exactly what I was looking for. My initial goal of three trees quickly escalated to five, and there's a good chance I'll be going back next weekend! Bonsai isn't necessarily a "cheap" hobby - especially in volume... but the prices here are very reasonable for the quality and age of the trees you'll run into. read more

Purchased a Dendrobium that was root rotted, checked a week after purchase and almost none of the roots were still alive. I'm certain this place is great, it has a good atmosphere and so on, but this was a very disheartening purchase that has scarred my experience. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lone Pine Gardens!!! I always come here during the Spring and Summer months (even though they are open year round) when I am in Sonoma County to get new cacti and succulent plants for my garden! I always look forward to coming here, they have an amazing selection with great prices! They have one huge greenhouse right when you walk in with small to medium sized succulents and cacti inside. The selection is amazing! Anything you ever need is here. When you walk out of the main greenhouse they have a few rows right outside with even more different succulents and cacti! Keep walking and you pass a huge selection of bonsai trees and a bonsai greenhouse. Then come two more greenhouses for plants they are growing for retail stores. Lastly when you round the final corner they have more rows of medium to large sized cacti sitting out in the sun. Prices are the same for smaller plants or cheaper for larger plants then you would find in the store! Smaller plants are about $3-6 where medium and large plants are mostly $6-15. I don't think that there is a succulent or cacti plant that I haven't been able to find here. It's a cactus lovers dream!!! Best nursery that I have found. Definitely worth the drive.
