We live a couple hours away, but come by when we visit family in the area. We stopped in to check out the inventory and so much had changed! The lot seems to have expanded, and the inventory definitely has. A large inventory of beautiful trees, statement pieces for the garden with rare form, variegation, or hard to find cultivars. For example, a golden lace cypress that was simply stunning caught my eye. Boughs of golden lacy leaves with a gorgeous form. Many more very interesting trees, like a gold form Mugo pine, rare ginkgos, unique maples, bonsai stock trees, native oaks, elms. If you are planning a garden design and want a unique tree this is definitely your place. Great for Japanese style and any other garden design. Many dwarf species available. In addition, they have a wide assortment of pond plants, koi fish, pond equipment, pond kits, and the like. They also have a great assortment of succulents and bonsais. They even sell minerals and cute hand made paver stones that look like reds wood trunk slices. Scott, the owner, was a delight and gave me the honor of seeing his private collection (an expansive selection!) of Dyckia and bromeliads and rare euphorbia and other succulents. I could have spent hours in there just taking in all the beauty of the plants. I felt like I found a kindred plant loving spirit in Scott. He's a really nice guy and treated us really well. The best part was the prices were really great. I picked out numerous plants expecting really marked up prices as is typical for nurseries (it IS a business after all). However, I was pleasantly surprised by the fair pricing. I can't wait to come back to pet the dogs, check out the pigeons (they have homing pigeons in a big aviary out back), and nerd out on bonsais and succulents again. I have to say the last owner wasn't particularly nice - the new owners are quite welcoming. There's a huge selection of variety of Rhododendrum's, Japanese maples, Dahlia's and Clivia's with huge redwoods surrounding. The grounds are gorgeous as ever with lovely shaded paths throughout. A new addition is the small shop with soaps and lotions made from herbs. Additionally, we were told by one of the new owners that they know offer event space for weddings. There is no charge to park or to enter the nursery. It seemed like the prices were a bit higher, but for a specialty plant it would be worth it.

Fortunately, they had more than one and I selected a 4.5 foot version--we love it! The plants at Peacock Horticulture are carefully selected by this friendly awesome duo, so you won't find too many plants they carry at Home Depot or Lowe's. Also, although they have a nice selection of bamboo and palms, their intention is not to compete with the Big 3 local palm/bamboo nurseries.

This particular location has a terrific selection of most types of plants. Lots of edible stuff like veggie starts and fruiting bushes and trees. The majority of the available plants are mix of Mediterranean and CA native landscaping plants with a handful of the standard shrubs/trees you'll find at every nursery in the U.S. like crepe myrtles and ornamental conifers. Also tons of herbaceous flowering perennials ranging from 4" pots up to 5 gallons. Also, a great house plant selection! I also believe this spot deserves some serious credit for their selection of native plants. One of the only spots in California you can readily purchase 4" starts of native annuals as well as cryptic and rare perennials. Just a couple days ago, I saw they were selling tomcat clover! That is just too cool. I also just bought a ground cover cultivar o CA buckwheat I've never even heard of. They clearly have someone in their procurement department who knows a good deal about natives. In terms of dry goods, they have a wide variety of pottery as well as all your standard garden center goods such as fertilizers, pest control, irrigation equipment, and general gardening supplies. What really tickles me is their bulk seeds. They have a full hallway with containers on either side with scoopers where you can buy any Lb amount of these seeds. They have tons of landscaping and pasture grass seed as well as some neat cover crop and cover crop mixes. My only complaint about this section is that not all labels have the scientific names. Some do, which is great since you know exactly the species that is being sold. However, one of the erosion control mix listed an annual "California festuca" and a perennial "California festuca". Unsure what species are being sold or if they are actually CA natives. Ultimately not a big deal and I'm sure the staff would be happy to get me the details. BUT if I made the labels...I may include the scientific name ;) All in all, this store and its other locations are a shining light in a dim world of big box stores selling garbage. You truly can find whatever you need for your projects here. I aways stop in when I'm in the area and buy a handful of things. I'll be a customer for as long as they are around!

On my recent visit I spent about 30 minutes outside and 15 inside looking at various plants, fertilizer and tools. I passed about 5 employees and not a single one greeted me. When I checked out the cashier never looked at me or greeted me at all- the only conversation was whether I needed a box or receipt. It's really sad to see their service be so lackluster! Service is warm, intelligent, and deeply informed. Plant selection for quality native plants is very good. Their plants are a little pricey --(perhaps 10-15% more than Home Depot for example) but they stand behind their plants/products. Any plants or products that don't work out, just bring your receipt and they will give you a store credit or credit your card. Much of the value Harmony offers is in the quality of the products, the plants, and the intelligent service. Seriously, there is nowhere else I could go to find out how to dig up a fern from acidic soil, and properly care for it while it overwinters before planting it under a nearby redwood tree in the Spring! Harmony Farms also carries extraordinarily unique products, such as Stella Natura's biodynamic planting guide and a wide variety of seasonal, organic specialty plants as well as hard-to-find organic soil amendments. Parking is abundant. They're located just off of the Hwy 101/Penngrove exit heading east. A large sign that says "Barn" offers a fairly quick turn on your R into a wide gravel driveway. Enjoy!

Their selection is varied and not what you would normally see at other nurseries. I've noticed their plants at other stores so they wholesale as well. When the weather is nice, it is a peaceful quiet place to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the property. Their employees are always very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It's hard to walk away without a new green friend in your arms. Parking could be tight on Saturdays. Open limited days and hours.

We are creating a landscape for a senior community, where thriving trees, fruit trees, flowers, birds, hummingbirds, and butterflies can nourish the heart and create opportunities for residents to step outside, linger, notice the seasons, and connect with one another. Ashley Eddy understood that mission immediately. She didn't simply help me choose trees--she visualized what we were trying to create. Touring the vast nursery with Ashley in our little open-air "botanical safari vehicle" was like having a landscape designer, master horticulturalist, botanist, and wonderfully charming docent all in one. She could look at a tree and help me imagine not just where it would go, but what it might contribute to the life of the community. Ashley guided me through climate, foliage, placement, fruiting trees, seasonal interest, and varieties that would attract birds and butterflies. Her knowledge was extraordinary, but equally important was her ability to listen. She understood that our goal wasn't simply beautiful grounds--it was beauty with purpose. The entire Moon Valley team carried that same spirit, from our adventure through acres of plants and trees, to conducting business in the office, to delivery. Everything was done with knowledge, warmth, humor, and genuine joy in bringing living things to their new home. Someday a resident may pick a piece of fruit, watch a hummingbird visit a blossom, sit beneath one of these trees with a neighbor, or simply say, "Look how much that tree has grown." We stopped by on a cold and wet day earlier this year and ended up getting a Fuji apple tree, a small fig plant, a nectaplum spice zee tree and an aprium flavor delight tree. There are rows upon rows of different kinds of citrus and fruit trees. We didn't go to the other areas of the nursery because we already planned out ahead of time what we wanted. If you need help loading your goods to your car the staff is available to give you a hand. My husband even emailed them some questions about the condition of the trees after we planted them and they got back to us with lots of helpful information. I recommend checking them out!
