I did receive a few plants that have done amazingly well here in the NE. I can't remember how I ended up with plants from them but I had ordered online and they were packaged wonderfully. Went there about 2 months ago with a friend that highly recommended it. They have unusual perennials, herbs, veggies, succulents, grasses plus books and gardening tools. I plan on coming back in the Spring to buy some plants. Lovely place to shop! Plants are healthy, well taken care of, and there are interesting selections that are placed logically, like with like; salvias together, grasses together, etc. The staff is great--super helpful and friendly in every way. *** UPDATE (1 DAY AFTER VISIT) *** This morning I potted the plants purchased from here yesterday afternoon. In a shady spot and with all my supplies at hand, I eased the little plastic containers off the plants and carefully planted them in prepared pots of high quality soil. 2 OF THE 5 LAVENDER PLANTS WERE DYING! With even the most gentle movement the stems were breaking off at the base of the plant. I did a google search for what I was seeing and was able to identify it as "wet feet"- a common lavender plant issue described as "really they are dead already (and just haven't realised it)." THANKS FOR THE DYING PLANTS, EMERISA GARDENS! Maybe take a break from garbling the Latin names of random plants and spend more time tending to the plants you over-price exorbitantly. After having once visited some years ago, I decided to return today to check out the selection of perennial herbs, hoping that there might be a wider selection than the standard issue lavender/rosemary/cilantro found at big box stores. Overall, I would have to say that I will NOT be returning to this nursery. It is smaller than I remembered and the selection was quite limited, although they did have some plants I know I would not find somewhere like Home Depot. The major turn-off for me was the outrageous pricing. $22 dollars for a 1 quart shade perennial?! Seriously? They don't even stock standard Terra cotta pots- only fancy glazed ceramics that are also ridiculously overpriced. Another turn-off was the customer service experience. I asked an employee if they carried sweet grass. Her reply was a snide "we use Latin names around here". Ok, no worries. I asked if they perhaps had something similar to sweet grass to which she said no, only to find a table in the back labeled "full sun grasses". I guess similar is a relative term. I understand that gardeners come in all different skill levels, but I must say that they could do better by being friendlier to beginners and casual enthusiasts of pretty flowers like myself. To their credit, all the plants were meticulously organized and labeled. I ended up spending about $150 on a small flat of assorted plants- a couple lavenders, a dahlia, 5 veggie starts and a couple shade plants. Hope they work out, because I will certainly not be spending that much on tiny plants again. read more

What an awesome nursery in my own backyard. I have been working on redoing a bed for the entry path to our house. We have been through numerous ideas and other nurseries in the area. Until now no one showed much interest in helping me to choose the best plants for the space that would be low maintenance and drought resistant. These people know their plants and take the time to educate you and help you make the best decisions. Their prices are more than reasonable and they have a great selection. This s the retail arm of one of Northern California's better wholesale nurseries. It was recommended by our favorite local nursery that was closing due to a drop off in business. The selection is extensive and all of the plants are extremely healthy - we have never lost a plant that Emerisa had supplied and their retail outlet has so many more plants to choose from that its hard to not leave with a truck load! The staff is extremely helpful, recommending varieties for the planting zone and offering suggestions as to unique varieties. We visited it on our way to Santa Rosa for a day of shopping and picked up the plants on our way home so they wouldn't have to swelter in the car all day... not a problem! You will not find a better Garden Center in all of Sonoma County. Although, Emerisa Gardens in mainly a wholesale grower they do have a great retail section. Their plants are extremely healthy, bloom profusely, and there is a great selection. They also carry a variety of Talavera Pottery in pots, animal shapes, bird houses and bird baths. You will have to go to Mexico to find a better price. Although, in my trips to Mexico I have never found a better selection or price. The crowning element in this business is the excellent, knowledgeable staff. Lori is the jewel in this crown. I am handicapped and have trouble negotiating the gravel paths. She runs all over for me bringing back shade plants or whatever I am looking for. "What about this one, Elaine?" "No'" Runs to get something else until I am satisfied with what she has found. I shopped here on the day before they closed for the season (before Thanksgiving), so a lot of things were for sale then. I bought four Talavera pots; one of them was a strawberry pot. Got lots of succulents, too. I received one beautiful pot for free because it was cracked extensively. The cashier gave me good tips on how to glue the pieces well. I'm happy to report many of the succulents are thriving this year! This is my favorite place for succulents. read more

Yo, Emerisa folks. I've knocked off two stars for this: You let me schlep around the grounds today and round up my own plants while wheeling a very large cart with the temperature soaring to somewhere between 106 and 109 degrees. The huzby helped me choose between the Maori Maiden and Starfire and then helped some more by walking behind me while he talked to his sister in NJ. (Hi, Sarah! Sorry I couldn't talk but I was busy sweating like a horse and finding the phormium, abutilon, fushias, derwentia etc...and concentrating on blinking my eyes so they wouldn't dessicate while I read the signs.) I asked you Emerisa folks from the start if maybe there was someone who could do this for me but no... you let me go out and do it myself. Fine. A bucket of sweat later, I come back and suddenly you realize I'm not a landscaper. I wasn't masquerading as a landscaper, I didn't tell you I was in the biz, you just assumed I was and I wasn't savvy enough to recognize your error. So I come back with my cart loaded with stuff and you tell me I have to pay the retail price. I'm OK paying the retail price except that I just went out there and DID ALL THE WORK MYSELF and you could have just pointed me to the retail area at the start and saved me the fluid loss. You should have just cut me some slack for YOUR mistake. If you'd knocked 20$ off my bill for doing YOUR job, I would've shrugged it off. We all make mistakes. But no. I had to wheel my loaded cart over to the retail area and pay full retail price. Hello? Yes, I did just almost incur heat stroke. A little customer love could go a long way, people. It's a long drive, I've gotta tell you. If I can get it here in Novato, that's what I'll do in the future because Sloat and Armstrong also offer me the privilige of paying full retail. I'm just lucky that way. And Greenpoint offers some pretty good customer consults in addition to having low prices. The problem is that you guys have stuff there I can't always get here. So I Iove you for what you've got but hate you for what you're not: customer friendly. Next time, (if there is one, and I'm not saying there will be) I'll dress and act like a landscaper. Very nice family owned and operated wholesale nursery that is also open to the public. They grow a lot of 4 inch perennials and also some gallons. They carry quite a few varieties of 1 gallon roses too which is hard to find. I havent had a chance to go to the nursery firsthand but Iwe buy from them and they have a lot of nice plants! read more

Helpful. Knowledgable. Decent prices. Patient with our newbie questions. A great selection of plants that includes some you won't find at big box stores or even some local nurseries. They also have a "demo garden" that lets you see how a lot of the seedling plants will look when fully grown. Big help. If they allowed dogs, I would probably give them 5 stars. I can't think of any other hardware, home, or nurseries that explicitly won't allow your to bring in your dog on a leash. read more

emerisa is a great source for perennials. i am a huge advocate of 4" plant material....it's cheaper and it usually establishes faster than a 1 gallon or 5 gallon size container. most of their plants are available in 4" containers which is really nice when you are on a budget. these guys offer a lot of the tried and true perennials and grasses, as well as the newest varieties on the market. when i did brokering, we used these guys all the time, since wholesale is their specialty...but they ARE open to the public. i would not say that they offer the same off the wall shit that Annies Annuals in Richmond does, but Annie's is also A LOT more expensive. go to annies for the more speciality items and come here for your more bread and butter material. read more
