During recent heavy rains we noticed we had rain dripping inside our fireplace and afterwards it smelled musty and moldy so we wasted no time looking for a reputable chimney repair company. Lone Star Chimney had excellent reviews, so I called them. First, Val came out to assess the problem and he was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. In his inspection he discovered we did not even have a chimney cap and there were cracks in the cover, thus the reason we were getting leaks inside. He took pictures while he was up on the roof which made it very clear what the issue was. Val explained the issue and the options for a solution as well as answering all our questions. We ended up replacing our gas log assembly too when inquiring about issues we had with our existing system. The following week Val and Eli installed the custom made chimney cap and gas log system. My chimney hadn't been cleaned for 32 years. Val came out and looked at everything, gave me an explanation of all my problems and his solutions for fixing them, and gave me an estimate. It took them a couple of days to get it done because the chemicals had to soak in. Not only was my chimney filthy the fireplace screen was no longer fireproof; the flashing had come off and water was leaking in our attic, the flue was no longer functioning, and the chimney cap had blown off. I reached out to Lone Star Chimney to perform a cleaning and inspection on my fireplace. We had never used it since we bought the home, and wanted to make sure everything was safe. Edgar came out and did an initial inspection and provided us with a run-through of what issues he discovered. We're very glad we did that before attempting to use our fireplace. Earlier this year we had annual inspection of the fireplace but when we built a fire last week we experienced some backflow issues with our chimney. After researching reviews and options we contacted Lone Star Chimney. David came out and inspected top to bottom including using a camera to inspect for any blockages or cracks. He explained issues with the cap and crown and buildup of creosote - all contributors to poor draft. He did all the corrective work including the cleaning and built a fire to ensure that there was improved draft and no back flow. He was very professional and thorough and kept us informed the entire way. Edgar was prompt, informative, and considerate. He called prior to his arrival and was accurate in the time he would be there. He was quick to diagnose the cause of our problem (wasps entering through our chimney) and gave a solution that he easily completed. He used my phone to make a video for me to show my husband of what he had done and how to maintain it for the future. He was concerned about the safety of our house with the current layout of the gas logs and rearranged them. When he went outside, he complimented the chimney! The wooden structure of my chimney surround was leaking, so I called Lone Star Chimney to get a quote for repairs. Val came out right away and took pictures of the the problems to show me. He was able to give me a quote for repairs, and I thought the price was quite reasonable.
