I needed a dryer vent installed in a new upstairs laundry room. The technician who came out was nice, but he told me that a dryer vent couldn't be installed because the laundry room was too small. He said I needed six inches between the wall and the dryer, and I didn't have that. The technician said the only solution was to move the wall back six inches, which would have meant redoing all the plumbing and electrical, and reducing the size of my bathroom. After some research, I now know that oval dryer vents with recessed boxes (that meet code) are available for spaces just like mine. They quoted me $2,580 to install the vent after I moved the wall. BEWARE, BEWARE! I would never recommend Lord's Chimney. read more

I had them come out to evaluate a chimney that had damage to it. They quoted $2200 to pressure wash, repoint, and apply water sealer. I said ok, even though I thought the price was a bit high, and they came out to do the job. About an hour after they got there, they called to say they were unable to complete the job. The damage was worse than they thought, and the entire chimney would have to be torn down and rebuilt. WTF. They damaged my chimney, and then left. I also have them on video calling my home disgusting. The website also states they offer free estimates, but the woman on the phone tried to charge me $140. They also stated they would call later in the day with a price, but I haven't heard anything from them since. So I called another company to have them give a second opinion on a tear down/rebuild. The owner of the company knew exactly who had told me that before I even mentioned it. He stated this was a known scam with them. Two other chimney companies came out, did a full inspection, and stated the damage to the bricks is purely cosmetic, and that my chimney needed no work done at all. I have used Lords Chimney and Dryer vent services twice now. My father's dryer was taking forever to dry and smelled like it was burning a little. We called Lords Chimney, scheduled an appointment, and they were able to quickly assess his dryer vent. His vent was so full of twists and turns that it actually needed to be rerouted. We made another appointment and someone came to reroute the vent and clean the whole system. They were professional and on time. So, when I noticed a slightly longer drying time I wondered if my own home clothes dryer needed the same service. I've lived in my home 8 years and never had the dryer vent cleaned. I scheduled an appointment and the guys actually got here early (of course they called first to see if that was ok). I always like it when people are prompt and don't waste my time. It took about 20 minutes to clean out the vent including the adventures into my attic. I also appreciated that they put covers over their shoes when they came in the house. Before they left, they told me I probably don't need the vent cleaned again for 10+ years. I'm glad they didn't tell me I need this done every year. I appreciate that they didn't try and sell me on a yearly service that isn't needed. Cost for service: $150 plus tax. Lord's Chimney was pretty professional and I feel like they really were able to point out most of the issues in my fireplace and the chimney stack. It was neat watching the camera go up and seeing everything inside the chimney, so that when they gave me a quote to fix everything, I felt like it was honest as far as the scope of work went. As far as the price, I'm not sure, as I haven't gotten comparable quotes yet. It wasn't outrageous though. I am docking one star for two reasons: One is the loooong wait. I mean, look, it means they're really busy, which means they must be good and in high demand, right? But a month and a half is probably the longest I've ever waited for a contractor. That said, it turned out well. Also, they didn't go up on the roof to take a peek at the chimney during the inspection. I was kind of expecting that, though it was almost three stories up and I'm sure he didn't bring a ladder for a house that tall. But still... Hmm. Not sure if that's usually part of the process. Also, I forgot my tech's name, but he was a really nice guy. I enjoyed sitting there just chatting with him as he scoped my chimney. All in all, a good experience. What can I say? I paid them to clean my dryer vent last year and they didn't do it right, so I had them come check again (and paid again). They said it would need to be cleaned from the outside. Apparently the tech last year didn't do the job properly. 22 days later after numerous phone calls on my part (they never followed up) and 3 trips to the laundromat, I gave up and called another company who fixed it the next day. Our order was placed on April 20th. 3 months later and we still don't have our fireplace doors. Delays are totally understandable. But what makes this company terrible is that they have told me 4 times that my doors are here, they have scheduled timeslots to install these, I have waited for them and I still have no doors on my fireplace! And as of today they have no idea where the doors are! Please avoid them for any if your installation needs since they clearly have no idea what's going on. read more

We had a major chimney problem after Ike. Two other contractors tried to repair but it still leaked. The second contractor recommended Lord's Chimney and they fixed it and it has not leaked since. Part of their solution was a cap, and it blew off during the storm a couple of weeks ago. Lord's folks came out and fixed it under warranty - no games, no problems - just great service. Rainwater was getting into our fireplace every time we had a moderately heavy rain. Lord's Chimney came and ran some tests for a modest fee and recommended we waterproof the chimney and install a new, larger, chimney cap. We engaged them to do these tasks and they did a good job. The work was spread out over a long time partly because of weather, partly waiting for the mortar to dry from the tuck pointing (part of the waterproofing), and partly waiting for the chimney cap to be fashioned. We were happy with the work, except we did not like the color of the mortar, which made the brickwork look patchy. So Jose, our technician, and his crew came back three times, once to select a matching mortar color, once to repair the mortar, and today to acid wash and clean up the mortar and then respray the chimney with the waterproofing chemical. In all, the crew made a lot of trips from their Houston office to our house in Galveston, but they stayed with the job until it was completed. Lord's is easy to reach by phone, has an efficient system for scheduling appointments including e-mail and text notices, and they did everything the said the would, standing behind their work (with the mortar) even after they'd been paid. We were very happy with this company and highly recommend it. read more

Called for a chimney inspection AFTER I purchased my home...that was a mistake. Should have done the inspection before closing on the house...live and learn! Paid $140 for an inspection (was originally calling to get a clean, but they recommended not cleaning due to all the repairs). They found $9300 worth of repairs! Yowzah! The guy was nice and did mention that a couple things I could probably find someone else to do them cheaper. For example, my flashing was messed up on the roof and he mentioned this would be $1200 to repair. I ended up needing an entire new roof and so the roofer fixed the flashing issues, but had I not needed a new roof, I probably would have still gotten a roofer to fix the flashing for much cheaper than $1200. Nothing compared to the actual brick repair pricing though. I don't really have a comparison but the costs seemed astronomical to me. (As you can see there is a theme in my review. :) ) The firebox bricks were loose and because and to take them out and reinstall was $2500! And that didn't include any new repairs they found after they had removed them. Wow...also there were a few small holes in the tile on the inside of the smoke chamber (tall part of the chimney). He showed me on his camera that he put up through the chimney. He said there is no good way to repair those holes since the ID of the chamber is so small. So they use a machine that basically puts this triangular shaped plug in the chamber and then put mortar on top of the plug and slowly pull the plug from the top of the chimney and that way you kind of squeegee the mortar into the holes as you pull the plug out...if that makes sense. Anyhow, that was $4k, phew. I guess the downside of the repairs inside the chimney would be that although the holes are so small, they are still nearly impossible for anyone to get to without this special machine. So, even though the actual work wouldn't be hard, the machine is probably what you are paying for. I did question how much of this work I actually have to get done versus how much was just them writing up things that were probably okay but they could convince me that they were enough of a threat. I questioned to myself though and did not get a new quote so I have no idea what the answer to that is. :D In the end, I just paid for the inspection and haven't used my fireplace. The pros are that the guy was on time and very polite. He laid out plastic to not get my place dirty and was very thorough showing me the video and the pics he took on the roof with his ipad. The con would be the cost. read more

Dishonest owner, he tells you he will do a bid fee of $99 that will go towards services and then has his sweep tell you for $29 more he will do a full inspection, but they fail to tell you that waives the $99 towards services. When I pointed out I was not told about this, he was rude and I took my services somewhere else that ended up quoting me HALF of what he originally told me I "needed" . After investigating parts, etc. came back with a quote for almost $1000. We called a competitor that did it for $350. Big disconnect between the 2 quotes for the same repair. Very disappointing.
