As an Allston native, I am a local fan of this joint. My roommate and I wait only waited ten minutes or so at the bar for a two-top to clear. The drinks are bomb and reasonably priced. The space is very small and super cramped, but you should know this once you go again and decide to stay. On a typical Friday/Saturday night, expect a bit of a wait and at least one person in line waiting for the bathroom. The food is really good as well. You order tacos individually, so you can mix and match. The chips and guac is a must and I have heard the grilled corn is a staple. Food comes out as it is ordered. The service is okay. There was not a lot of communication between the servers and the bar staff, which made for some awkward moments, but overall, everyone's attitude is pretty chill. Good spot for vegans/vegetarians. Most tacos have meat/cheese but there are definitely sides and a vegan option, which is a heaven sent for me. I recommend going as a two/three person group; anything larger may not find room. read more

This place is a little hard to find. If you aren't looking for it you will definitely walk right by. The dining area is small but not tiny, I have definitely seen smaller. I went here on a Saturday afternoon and it actually wasn't too busy which was nice because we were seated immediately. I had the La Luna cocktail which was actually on the brunch menu. It was light and fruity and delicious. We then started out with the guacamole and chips which was so tasty honestly one of the best guacs I have ever had. The chips were also extra crispy and delicious. For the main I had the Fried Baja fish tacos. I ordered two but honestly one would have been enough. They were really a good size. Beware they are pretty spicy but totally yummy. Overall I would recommend you stop by and try it out if you are in the area! read more

This place will always be one of my favorite local spots in Allston. The margs are always consistent and they have such a friendly staff here. I also love the food! This was so delicious! Randomly wanted tacos one Tuesday so my bf and I decided to walk over. I wasn't expecting too much since I just searched for the closest tacos next to us. We had the chorizo, fish, Barbados tacos, chicken tostada and guacamole. The chicken tostada was massive. It was full of seasoned moist chicken, beans and cheese. The tostada itself was a little soggy but that's because it was covered in toppings. I really enjoyed the fish taco as well. There were 2 hot sauces on the table and I preferred the green one. The red was a little sweet for me. Also crushes the guacamole. I initially thought it was too much guacamole but we finished the entire bowl. I had a terra Chelada and loved it. If you like Bloody Caesars, you'll totally enjoy that drink. My bf had a mezcal drink that was also delicious. I totally would come back. That being said... let's get to the good parts: Good food; authentic as far as I know (female gringo here), delicious, well seasoned, served correctly Good drinks; the "mugarita" was STRONG. I had just gone for a run (my fault) but I was buzzed by the time I was half-way through Good service; the servers are very "Allston..."..Hip, tattoos, septum piercings,etc... but you get it. This place was smaller than I thought it would be but that didn't ruin the experience of course. We came at 6pm and, to my surprise because of how popular I heard Lone Star was, we were able to be seated immediately. There're benches on the wall and the other side of the table are stools. I sat on a stool so it was a bit uncomfortable but then I thought about how it's a bar, hence the same, so it was no big deal. The food menu was really small but there were plenty of drinks! It's a super casual ambience and the wait staff is very attentive and friendly. We ordered the grilled street corn to start and the wait wasn't too long. Their take on street corn wasn't too bad!! I would order it again if I visit again. I ordered the Dallas Spicy Beef taco and the Carnitas Pork taco. My friend also got the Carnitas Pork taco but got the Beef Barbacoa taco instead. We wanted to try the fish tacos but they're always a hit or miss and were hesitant. We saw another table's and the fish seemed like there was a lot of batter, which isn't how I like my fish tacos. Our tacos were good! Carnitas Pork sounded the best on the menu but I preferred the Dallas Spicy Beef. Something about all the flavors of it that really won me over. Don't come here to eat if you're not willing to get your hands dirty! But also don't expect amazing tacos and tequila if you're not willing to get a bit messy! If you're heading here on a Friday evening like I did yesterday, take advantage of the wait list! The host did mention that it was unusually busy that evening more so than not in the winter but that's probably because the weather was a bit warmer than usual as well so people were willing to bear the wait. I joined the wait list at home at 7:50pm and didn't get seated until 8:45pm. It's not as bad if you're proactive and getting on the list before you arrive so that by the time you get there the wait isn't too long before you're seated. You will have to wait outside because there just isn't much space inside. The space was too dark to get any quality pictures of the food. We started with chips and guacamole. It was pretty decent, not too salty and it didn't seem to have cilantro in it from what I could tell. The bowl that it comes in is slightly deceiving in size. It's very wide and they fill it to the brim but also very shallow. Overall, quality guac and the tortilla chips were not overly salty or oily as well. We asked for a refill on the chips to finish out guacamole which they gladly provided with no additional cost. We also got the grilled street corner which comes smothered in cheese ( DROOL)! The dish arrived with 3 small corn on the cobs which was perfect for our party of three as each person was able to get their own share. I opted for 3 tacos - chorizo, baja fish, and carnitas. Yum, yum and yummmm! They were all very juicy and flavorful and well cooked. I would say the baja fish could've done with a little less pickled red cabbage because it seemed to overpower the fish just a bit but it was still delicious. Can't to come back to try the other kinds. It seems like you really can't go wrong with the taco selection. I also got the Paloma to drink. It was nothing special but the liquor pour was definitely hefty. I was very satisfied after one drink. I could see them being dangerously strong after a few, so beware! This is the best place to come for hipster tacos (you'll see what I mean when you get there). The chips and guac appetizer is, by far, the best item on the menu. The chips are always piping hot and perfectly salted, and the guac is very lime-y and fresh. The MUG-arita is strong, and not too sweet. As for the tacos, my friends seem to REALLY like the Barbacoa, but I think the Baja Fish is the best one. (You need about 3-4 to get full, so you could always order one of each.) Lastly, it really bugs me that the Elotes are listed as "Grilled Street Corn" on the menu. If you're going to call the Salad entree "La Nueva Ensalada," you MIGHT as well call the corn dish what it actually is (or what it's supposed to be). read more

Not to mention that the victory club nacho was also trash. The description said "the original 1943 bar snack" but I didn't know people liked to eat lettuce in their nachos in 1943. The huevos rancheros was also a disappointment. You know it's bad when I had better huevos ranchero on a cruise than this place. Overall I thought everything I ordered was disappointing besides the Veracruz Fish Tacos. The flavor on the fish was spectacular, something that left me shook. I saw a few rats that are as big as a small dog. This establishment is disgusting, the food gave food poisoning. The service is not great either unfortunately. I don't usually make Yelp reviews but I think people should know that this place doesn't care about if we see the huge rats. They obviously don't want to shut down for a few days. I was sitting in the back patio and as I went to my car to grab something I saw not 1 but 4 rats running out of their kitchen where they just made my food. TLDR: Delicious tacos at a not so delicious portion and price. Order and eat with caution to remember that you'll be sad over the bill later. I got two tacos- the Dallas beef and their special of the night: a BBQ pork belly with habanero sauce and collard greens- and an order of their victory nachos. The pork belly taco truly stood out to me and I was so sad after taking three bites that it was gone. The other one was good but not as amazing as the pork belly. These tacos are street taco size but what I love about them is that the shell and the filling taste great. They don't fall apart and the flavors and textures go well. They came garnished with the TINIEST piece of radish and lime. Literally like a 1.5 cm cube that seemed laughable. I would have ordered more but at $4 each ($4.25 for the special), I stopped at 2 and decided to get the nachos as a more filling option. The nachos were generously portioned but not that generous on the toppings. Tons of chips, but only half of them were covered in cheese (sadly not queso cheese sauce), guacamole, cabbage and pickled jalapeño. This place makes me miss Southern California- amazing street tacos at $1 each. The "bouncer"/ maybe owner (?) also carded me as soon as I came in. I came in with a friend from out of town, & I don't really go out in the Allston area. Its a small spot that is really cozy. The music and the music had like a punky vibe. We tried a couple of beers that tasted good. We tried the guacamole which was made fresh to order! We asked for it spicy and it was, it was a little too citrus-y for my liking and it could have used more onions for from crunch, but it was delicious and i'd order it again. Disclaimer* this review is for the server/manager and NOT the food/restaurant. Coming for 3 years now, service and tacos are always outstanding. Came in 11/21, seated promptly, sanitizer on the table was a bonus, awesome protocol. Our server was wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with the acronym ACAB. For those who don't know, that stands for "All Cops are Bastar**" While I appreciate and support free speech, I have immediate family who are police and this was extremely inappropriate. We let it go until the end of the meal and then asked him what his sweatshirt stood for. Rather then lie or brush it off, he doubled down and told us he believes all police are scum. When we asked for the manager, she told us that the restaurant is proud to give their employees the right to freedom of speech. The food is good and the drinks are pretty good i won't lie. But I am 23 and they denied my ID on the basis that they have a "government issues app" that said my ID was fake. It was an ID I got 3 weeks prior from the DMV that was the new federal ID. I was at a loss for words and they claimed the police would say the same which is actually preposterous. This hasn't happened to me once since I turned 21 and I couldn't believe they were denying me when it was an IN STATE federal ID. Completely disappointed by this especially considering this was at the door when it is a restaurant and I've eaten there three other times. They need to find a new way to correctly assess ID's because their system is CLEARLY faulty. read more

This place is pricey per taco, but so good. They have the expected offerings (chips with salsa and guac, street corn, barbacoa, chorizo, carnitas, etc.), but some surprises, too. What matters is that the food is full-flavor and the staff are excellent. How they maneuver through this very narrow space is impressive. As for their bar offerings, I love me a Modelo Negra, but sometimes you just need Mexican Happy Meal (Dos Equis, tequila shot, tomato shot.) I like their creativity! As I mentioned, this is a small space, so it can be difficult to get a table on the weekends. Prepare to wait on the sidewalk, if that's the case, or try to angle for an early dinner! read more

Ok so I walked into a bar in Boston, MA called Lone Star Taco Bar ... uhh am I really in Boston or did I go back home to Austin, TX?? Ok seriously this bar was like many bars I have encountered in Austin, TX. It is doing a pretty dang good job too. I definitely felt at home. The only thing missing was the giant patio. I orderd the El Diablo, which was like a spicy margarita with mezcal ... texas much ... I think so. My husband got the Mexican happy meal, which is a tequila shot, side of sangrita, and pint of Modelo Especial. The place was hoppin when we stopped in during happy hour time. The staff was super friendly. We only drank and our drinks were definitely tasty. I would say that Lone Star is winning at being a texas bar in Boston, so how could I not be a fan! read more

It took me way too long to try this place. It's been in my bookmarks for literally years but either there wasn't parking or some other thing didn't work out. Well. I finally made it last week and it was definitely worth the hype. We sat at the bar, got great service and amazing food. Everything was super fresh - I don't know of a better place open late. But the CORN. OMG. You must get it. Tacos were a bit spicy for my liking but I'm a wimp and I had a great alcoholic beverage (I forget which) that made it all good. Great prices, great everything. Lone Star is just... sigh. It's a restaurant you sigh over longingly, wilting over your chaise lounge, like a scene from Gone with the Wind. The guac is masterful, mostly due to their avocado crema which is one of the best things in the world. Anything on the menu that mentions avocado crema? Pretty much can't go wrong there. The breakfast taco is heaven on earth, especially with the sauces they have at the table, which I call Orange Sass and Green Sass. Hit those with a lil' Orange Sass and Bob's your uncle. (Why is that a saying? Is he a really good uncle or something?) I like their Barbacoa tacos too, and the Chicken Ranchero Tostada is only $1 more than the other tacos (at $5) but don't be fooled because it is pretty huge, and there's a lot of meat, which means more space to douse with Orange and Green Sass. The Carnitas Pork taco is solid too, and more consistent than the Barbacoa, which can sometimes have big chunks of stringy meat. Did not love the Jalapeno Pancakes. They sound delicious in theory, and I love me some Jalapenos, but they just didn't cut it. Definitely hit this taqueria for brunch because then you can have the breakfast tacos and the guac and the meat tacos and all the things plus a mimosa! No downside! read more

BEST tacos in Boston, in my opinion! Tiny venue, stool bar seating with only a handful of small wooden tables. We were lucky to get seated immediately and the service was quick as all can be. Super casual, affordable, and families welcome. Fish tacos are the way to go, and the way to my heart, and the pickled onions said it all. I believe it was house made verde sauce that was a tasty topper that added that extra kick and punch to every delicious bite. Start with the guacamole and you won't regret it. Served in a heavy stone mortar and pestle bowl, and house fried chips! I hesitate to give anything Texas-themed less than 5 stars... *sigh* but I will. Not to say this place isn't awesome. It has a great vibe, and a lot of thought went into the design of the space (which I always appreciate). The service is fantastic. The drinks are overpriced... confusingly so. I canNOT bring myself to purchase a Lone Star for $4.50... it just goes against my morals as a Texan. I can go home and get pitchers of the stuff for less... literally. The food is pretty good. The queso packs a little spice-punch, and the chips that come with it are great. The grilled avocado/griddled queso was disappointing. I got it because it was so warmly recommended by other reviewers. It was pretty bland. The Dallas Spicy Beef was also disappointing, and on a tostada (I would rather they mention that in the menu). The barbacoa was really good! It came with crumbled cheese and pickled red onion, which complemented each other nicely. Overall, I really liked it. They played damn good music. My biggest qualm was the tacos. Seriously. Why did I pay $4 for 3 inch tacos? They were TINY. Could we add another inch or two? Maybe? They were ridiculously small. I still can't get over it. They were actually, seriously, 3 inches in diameter. Little baby tacos. Look at your index finger. Now! Look at it. That's probably around 3 inches. That is how wide these tortillas were. Baby. Then since there was no room on our table we used a side table they had next to us to put our dirty/extra plates and Mr.A$$ says oh those are not for placing plates smh. Well we dont have room first of all, we r literally eating on top of each others. The drinks where not good! Some where too strong and others water down. The food was mediocre! A taco is a taco is a taco, right? WRONG. Lone Star Taco Bar does a lot of things Mexican right... and tacos are just one of them. I respect a place that has brunch everyday until 4PM (because sometimes I am lazy, and alternatively, sometimes I want breakfast items for lunch, but) I revere this place for its brunch because of their phenomenal breakfast tacos. These amazing tacos come with the option of homemade chorizo (its delicious add it - it has a nice meaty flavor and it does NOT add a ton of grease - actually little at all). These breakfast tacos are by no means a "Juan in a million" migas plate - the standard of any breakfast burrito or taco in my book, but I could eat them all day. I am happy to find a place that serves a delicious version in Boston. Holy cow, fish, and pork (seriously). Starting with my least favorite and ending with my most delicious: 1) The beef barbacoa was a decent taco made from a good marinade on beef brisket and garnished with pickled red onion and avocado crema (the beef is juicy and good but crema is the star). It's a good beef taco, if that is your thing. 2) The California style fish taco with fried "catch of the day" whitefish, pickled cabbage, and chili mango aioli is probably the best fish taco I have had in the Boston area. The fish fry was a little on the greasy side (but not saturated), the pickled cabbage was awesome, and the chili mango aioli was a nice "sweet but spicy" addition. 3) My favorite taco of the day, second only to the breakfast taco, was the pork carnitas with salsa verde. This taco is authentic - "Texas airlifted to Boston" good. The meat is so tender and juicy; the salsa is a bit tart/bitter - in a way that compliments the pork perfectly. I am going to have serious troubles in the future deciding between a plate of these bad boys, or breakfast tacos (I will definitely get both). I never understood the fascination of folks for grilled street corn, that is, until I begrudgingly tried it at Lone Star Taco Bar. Thank God I have friends who have seen the light. This corn is the bomb. They have a nice amount of char, very sweet corn, cotija, cilantro and some amazing chili lime aioli (that I could not get enough of - luckily it is slathered all over the plate). Unfortunately, I took the photo after we ate the corn - it was too delicious to stop eating it once we started. Finally, the drinks. If you like them of the alcoholic variety... you should have them here. I had the breakfast margarita (St. Germain, grapefruit juice, tequila) and a standard "on the rocks" margarita. Both were delicious. There are only three drawbacks to this amazing place: 1) There is no sign on the door - it is located right next to Deep Ellum. 2) Little parking. 3) The venue is small (there are multiple locations, which may solve all of these problems). read more

Absolutely loved this place. Got to know about this place from the show on food network; Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. We came here for a Saturday night dinner and the ambience and music was perfect. They have a good selection of tequilas and other alcoholic beverages to choose from. The food menu is small and conscience. For an appetizer we ordered the guacamole and chips. The guac was nice and fresh, but the chips were not my favorite, but made a good combination with the guac. The tacos are all one per plate unless you ask for two in a plate. We had the spicy beef, Baja fish and the grilled avocado w/tofu. The spicy beef had a nice heat to it and was not overpowering, but the baja fish had a splash (probably a lil over a splash) of mango habanero sauce in it. It was delicious, but a lil over powerful for me. Overall, a great place for tacos and drinks and a nice hangout too. Will definitely come back. read more
