We had a wonderful experience this weekend at Rockledge park. We made reservations the night before. The website was so easy to use. We made a reservation for a 1 hour double kayak and a paddle board. The morning of our reservation, our 3rd person decided not to come and the staff at lone star were so accommodating, they gave us a credit for the paddle board for us to use next time. The staff were so warm and welcoming, they made the check in process so smooth and we were out on the water within a few minutes. This was our first time at the lake and they gave us an overview of where to paddle, etc., as well. Over all a wonderful experience, and we will be back again with some friends. We did the sunset tour, it was fun. We're experienced kayakers but did notice the instructions for others were comprehensive. Trying to keep the group together proved challenging due to wind but the guides managed that challenge well. A clear direction of our destination would have been helpful but otherwise we had a good time paddling around. read more

I truly cannot speak highly enough of this incredible place. What I thought would be a simple one-hour boat ride turned into the discovery of a fantastic new hobby--and even better, a great community of people who genuinely love the water. Peter at Lonestar Adventure Sports is phenomenal. He set me up with an excellent captain for my very first outing on a Hobie Getaway catamaran, and I was instantly hooked. I haven't been sailing in years but the team made me very comfortable and excited to get to do this again. After my 1hr sailing trip with Captain Chad, Peter introduced me to Captain David, and let me tell you--this man is the real deal. On Sunday, he took me under his wing and walked me through the rigging and setup of a Hobie cat, generously sharing his knowledge and passion while we prepared one of his boats for the water. Although the wind wasn't in our favor that day and we didn't get to sail, I left feeling incredibly grateful. I thought that was the end of the adventure--until I received a text from Peter inviting me back out on Tuesday. As luck would have it, my work schedule shifted, and I was able to join them. The wind was perfect, and we had three boats on the water, sailing in sync and enjoying every minute. It was an unforgettable experience. When I wrapped up that day, I left not only with a renewed love for sailing but with some new friends as well. I'll absolutely be back the next time I'm in Dallas. I take customer service escalations for a living so I HATE complaining. But I rent from these guys about every other weekend and never had a problem until today. Unfortunately nothing was done to fix my experience. I arrived for my one hour paddle board rental to be told "their pos iPad" is down so my reservation couldn't be retrieved. I had to dig through emails to prove my purchase when I should've been on the water. THEN, after on the water for about 10 minutes, the paddle board was so full of water the ENTIRE thing submerged under water - rendered useless. I spent my hour swimming back to the nearest shore with a paddle in one hand and a heavy board in the other. Emptied the paddle board on another swim beach because it couldn't make it back to where you leave from. Then hiked it back and explained to the staff what happened. The high schoolers working the stand didn't seem to care. Their response was "yeah we'll empty them at the end of the day." No apologies. No attempts to make it right. Maybe you should empty the board BEFORE I arrive for my $30 rental - not just at the end of the day. Listen I am not the outdoors type so when we decided to try this out I was afraid! When arrived about a hour before closing and they allowed us to still go out with the canoes. We signed our wavier and was given a step by step guide on how to canoe and properly Maneuver in the lake. With the help of the staff we actually did really good ! We went out into the water and didn't fall out the boats hahaha. The water was pretty clear also so I felt comfortable if we did accidentally fall in. read more

The kayak I rented didn't have a cap to the storage compartment which filled with water. When I mentioned it to a manager I'm not sure if he didn't care or just didn't understand the logistics of the problem but I wouldn't recommend this rental company. The kayak was also filthy. Was there 9/5/11 for Labor Day weekend. All the employees looked like they did not want to be there at all and just had a don't care attitude. My partner and I rented the double kayak and when one of the workers pushed us into the lake he tipped us over and I scraped my leg so bad and our cellphones were completely soaked and didn't want to charge. The guy tipped us over and just walked away. Didn't say sorry or help us on nothing. Horrible service. read more

I had given these guys nice advertisement in my neighborhood next to Rockledge. park. After today, I will not do business with this company ever. We paid for a 2 hr kayak, registered our 5 nephews and nieces with a nice gent. Submitted paperwork online. Kayak ready to launch. Then the owner Peter came down to shore and told us we had to pay for $5 per kid. I asked why wasn't this handled before earlier during the transaction. He states it's the law because it's for life jackets. Our kids already had their life jackets provided by the park. He would not let us launch eating our time, arguing back and forth. He kept making statements and implying he was being robbed. Accused us of 'not abiding by the law while the kids stood there with lifejackets on". At that point, after watching how he treats his customers after his employee makes a mistake, we cancelled. The guy had the nerve to say oh, "You can't be over in this cove. Your family can't swim here." I told him last I checked this was a public park and unless he owned the cove, people can swim where they want. Additionally we frequent this park given its next to Lakeside DFW and told him there were plenty of people swimming this cove just last 4th of July weekend. Completely unprofessional megomaniac! The story gets better. I added an extra star because he finally came over and apologized. However he blamed his employee. He said they had not been trained." My jaw dropped because he never apologized for his behavior and instead blamed his staff. He offered a free hour which we declined. I truly hopes he learns from this review. Response to his reply Dropping him down to a one star as this owner is a liar. I never spoke to his employees after he started accusing us and only spoke to him. I refused his offer after he blamed his employees. My nephews found him deplorable. He cannot see his treatment of my family as absolutely rude esp towards my brother who is a military doctor. I think he saw our brown skin as somehow an issue and hence treated us poorly. Say what you want. This review stays on. read more

My boyfriend and I took my younger sister kayaking for her birthday this past week. We all had been kayaking a handful of times previously but since we do no own any we decided to pick Lonestar Adventure Sports. Our biggest desire was to fish while on the kayak and I was unsure if this was even going to be allowed BUT 2/3 of us caught a fish! Overall, we had a good time but I was not very impressed with the service. I booked online the day before for a 3 hour trip. We showed up at about 2:45 for our 3 o'clock appointment to sign in and be able to launch right at 3. But, a couple walked up before us and rented a double yak and took 2 of the 3 remaining waterproof phone cases were told come with any rental so we only got 1 waterproof case with no type of compensation or refund. read more

Went kayaking for my birthday and although we both enjoyed it, but I was not very impressed with the service we received. We rented a double kayak ahead of time online. Upon arrival I explained that neither one of us had ever been kayaking. We did not receive any information from the gentlemen working they just sent us on our way. I paid for a waterproof speaker to use, but we were told none of them were charged. They didn't offer any sort of compensation and I was not refunded. We discovered a perfect way to relax on a Friday night on the water. We set out with a crew of about a dozen other people of all ages. After 10 years in the area, my wife and I found that Kayaking at Sunset at Lake Grapevine is hard to beat. This Lonestar Adventure Sports outfit is top-notch and made it seem so easy even though we aren't very experienced at water sports. We felt safe and comfortable in a double kayak on a one-hour evening trek! Water and sodas were provided by Peter and his team at the end of the trip. Capped off the night at the same site with weekly Friday night Fireworks lighting the sky with color and reflecting off the lake while Lonestar plays some tunes. Worst experience for our first time trying to go Kayaking. The owner was so rude that we end up refusing his service before we could even get on the water. When my family and I were getting ready to go the owner came up to offer a free pass which we denied due to his lack of apology. He blame his staff for his rude behavior. As a business owner this is the perfect example on how to kill your business. I hope he learned something from that day and humbles him self to bring a better service to his costumers who keeps his business alive and thriving. read more

We kayak a lot, and I can honestly say this is the worst experience we've had. We arrived at 8:50 for our 9 a.m. booking. There was only one guy working. I think the other man ran late because he didn't show up until after nine. We were the first people in line, but because of the lack of organization we didn't get into the water until 9:45. The first speaker they gave us didn't work, got another one and asked how to use it and the worker said "I don't know" Our kayak allowed water to come into the bottom of it and we were soaked. I brought my wife and 2 kids to Rockledge Park to rent kayaks and it was one of the most fun experiences we've had this summer! None of us were very experienced, but the employees gave us a paddle instruction and made us feel very safe. The young man helping us was extremely friendly and helped accomodate us in any way he could. It's a very relaxing, family friendly activity with cool music and a safari-like atmosphere. I was a bit disappointed in the organization. We booked online Friday for a Saturday trip. When we got there for our reservation, the person that handles them did not saying anything to the people there. The times we had booked had not been recorded and they did not know we were coming. Also, they did not have all the equipment promised from the web page. No cell phone covers to take your cellphone with. Over all it was an ok trip, just wish there was more communication with the team members. read more
