About me! I'm a combat wounded veteran Xs3 with extensive surgerical history which has left me with medical issues. I had been seen by a few less than professional podiatrists before being referred to Barret Medical and Hièdi Ritter DPM by one of my frogman brothers! The V.A. has no podiatrists which leaves us at a serious disadvantage. Doc Hiedi,the awesome Medtechs and my superior nail technician were given a serious challenge with the condition of my feet which the team met head on which was no easy task. Again I had seen 4 others with no results. That was 7 years ago and today is a testament of their professionalism. The punishing extreme environents my feet have been through had me thinking I would never heal. I ceased taking pain meds 4 years ago due to the relief and care I have received. She sent me to physical therapy for some time which was going ok but I still wasn't getting much better so she sent me to a CHIROPRACTOR! $70 every week. Chiropractor did nothing absolutely nothing. That's when I decided to leave and see a new rheumatoid doctor and he immediately diagnosed me with Akylosing Spondylitis. Unfortunately Akylosing Spondylitis cannot be reversed so I can't get back the time and pain. Please save yourself the time pain and money.

I broke my foot earlier this year and had visited another podiatrist who quickly recommended…read moresurgery. I visited TSAOG and Dr. Hughes for a second opinion. I immediately felt at ease with both the location and visit. I saw Dr. Hughes at both the Ridgewood and Med Center locations. Both facilities were well-maintained and welcoming. I appreciated the time Dr. Hughes spent in answering my questions and I felt confident that he was prescribing the best care possible. I also appreciated his plan for not immediately recommending surgery and instead planned on taking new x-rays three weeks later to ensure recovery was progressing as expected. It would have been very easy to say "surgery is needed" as an easy way to get paid, so it made me feel I was truly being valued as a patient and with the best care in mind vs. making money off of me. After two follow-up visits with X-rays, he confirmed my foot was healing as expected and no surgery was needed. Now, 4 months post-injury, my foot is fully functional again and I know that wouldn't have been the case if I didn't trust my gut and get a second opinion from Dr. Hughes and TSAOG. Would absolutely use again if ever needed.

Nothing but positive things to say for Dr. Broome and his team at San Antonio Orthopaedic Specialists. I recently had knee surgery and I'm so glad I was referred to Dr. Broome. From the very beginning of setting up the appointment to after surgery and checking in, I am so impressed. At first glance, you can tell how beautiful their new space is and the care they took to make it welcoming. His staff is considerate of your time and took me back fairly quickly. I did not have to wait for more than 5-10 minutes after arriving each time. Dr. Broome takes his time on your first consultation to get to the root of what is bothering you, and why you are looking into having surgery. We discussed the different scenarios of what might happen, as we looked at each MRI image that was taken. His assistant will come in to discuss privately the payment options available, as well as who to call about insurance coverage. His staff also make sure everything is in order, even calling to remind you and go over the game plan the day before surgery. After surgery he made a curtesy call to make sure all was well, and to see if I had any questions or concerns. Overall, I am so impressed with the amount of communication and friendliness of this office. You can really tell Dr. Broome and his staff care about his patients and the overall well being of life after surgery. He gave my son a time frame of 2 weeks for surgery at the end of May. Then, we were told he was leaving the country the day after for a month and will not take accept our insurance in July. Immediately started looking for 2nd opinions and multiple spine surgeon, different offices, said he didn't need a fusion and admonished doctors that do this.

None of this "if you don't hear from us, results are good" or "don't worry, we'll let you know" and never getting a call. The doctor is excellent. She treats you like a person and not a vagina. None of this silly telling like 3 different people your medical history and your problems. You give a brief review to her assistants then she comes in with her "old fashioned" pen and paper chart, proceeds to sit down and talk to me which is how it should be. She asks how I am, makes jokes, then gets down to business. I know that I matter to her as a person and that my health is nothing to be taken lightly. Just wonderful!

So, I had a bond with her due to the issues I had. She was so unbelievably caring. Her Nurse Practitioner is awesome as well. I wouldn't change a thing about my birthing experience or the care I received. I referred people to her and they've continued to see her as well. She is super personable, a quality that can sometimes be hard to find in a doctor. If I could move her to Phoenix, I would. Seriously, she is a gem.

Basically, she referred me to the Nike store instead of addressing my problem. Several hundred dollars later at the Nike store, I realized the personnel at the store couldn't even fit my feet and I went online for information. I was able to cure my plantar fasciitis by a little research, no thanks to Jessica Rutstein. If you're looking for a social encounter, by all means see her. If you need medical attention for your feet, look elsewhere.
