I have used this place many times now, and I do believe they are honest and have the right intentions...HOWEVER, whenever the father helps me out, he is very offensive towards women that have questions or concerns. He even went as far as to tell me to "have my husband call him so he could explain the problem to him". He has NO patience to explain the cause/repair. The mechanics are great and the son is very friendly and honest. I just dread when the father is the one helping me out or answering the phone....not a good feeling as a women to be made to feel like you are an idiot in the 1940's. read more

I normally don't write reviews, only read them but I thought this place deserved one. I have been taking my 95 Tahoe here for 5 years now and I have nothing but great things to say about it. I have dealt with both father and son and both are extremely helpful and honest. He will tell you what's wrong with it, how much it will cost and fix it for you right away with your permission. Doesn't try to sell you on anything else. They always give me a good price and I always leave with my car fixed. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a good mechanic. I know some things about cars but not a lot and he was always willing to talk to my Dad on the phone and explain the problems to him. I have just had my Honda CRV AC repaired by John at Long Beach Auto Clinic. There was a leak and the compressor needed to be changed. John was forthright about some of the problems Honda has had with their AC systems and made his recommendations to fix the problem honestly and fairly. It was the same recommendation the dealer had made at a much more affordable price. These guys we're recommended by my father who has had them work on all his cars over the last couple years, from his classics to new. So I took my car here to have two large dents, one small dent and two scratches fixed and they did a pristine job. You couldn't even tell that they were there, I needed to fix them as my car was a lease and I needed to turn it back in pristine condition. They knew actually what the inspectors look for and how to fix it like new and on top of it they gave me a great price to fix it. I was truly happy and guess what? Have been given a lot of recommendations for this Long Beach Auto Clinic, not sure after what happened to someone I know if this place is all that after all. Most of the recommendations came from those who used to work with the father, have gone for years. It just sounds like the son who took over needs to be a little more respectful and accept it's ok not to know everything and ask the mechanics. My question to Long Beach Auto Clinic, does it matter if you are a new or old customer? Like I said I know someone who was talked to condescending and constant joking around by the son. This person was a new customer, felt disrespected. Do you take care of all the parts or do you have the customer go and get it themselves? Have been told if we buy the part, LBAC will put it in for you? What?! How does that work for guaranteeing the work performed? Then have it checked, only to find the work was not done? Really would like to try but am not confident. Like all new places it's what works for you or trial and error. Tried to call several times but the son was always busy or there was no one available to answer my questions. What is the true specialty of your business. Be truthful. Last year I paid a mechanic 1200.00 to fix the problem I had they replaced the rear end. The problem still existed and they wouldn't stand by the warranty. I recently went to Long Beach Auto Clinic. John was great. I hade several things I wanted done, one of them included fixing the original issue I had with the other mechanic. John was in constant contact with me letting me know where we were at and what was completed. He even called me when he got stumped on the issue at hand. He researched and reached out to other resources and discovered the problem. I cant believe how well my car runs now. I take my car here every time I need service/repairs on my old van. I am disabled and in a wheelchair. So it's hard to do even simple maintenance on my van. I get great service every time! I recently moved into the area. I'm not a mechanical whiz and I needed a repair facility I could trust. LBAC checked over my car and told me what I needed now and what could wait. When my power steering started acting up, they diagnosed the problem and repaired it...and they fixed an old problem that my previous mechanic had been unable to repair for several years, even though I invested a couple thousand dollars in parts over that time. My previous mechanic charged less in the beginning, but his prices kept going up and his incompetence cost me a lot more in the long run. At LGAC, there's no BS and no upselling. The prices aren't rock bottom, but they are more than fair...and I think you get what you pay for! read more

I do not drive nearly as much as I used to because I work pretty close to my office now. Accordingly, my truck doesn't take nearly as much of a beating as it would otherwise. I don't drive anywhere unless I absolutely have to. All of a sudden over the weekend, my brakes started to grind, and that made me nervous because I drive a truck. The last thing I would want is for my brakes to stop functioning! Considering how heavy of a vehicle it is, I could obviously do a lot more damage to someone else's car than my own. I just want to be safe! The fact that I am female makes it nearly impossible to find a place to take my car to get serviced without being ass-raped. That being said, I turned to Yelp to find a place that was affordable yet reputable for customer service. Unfortunately, Yelp did me wrong for the first time ever! I figured that with all the decent reviews and the proximity to my office that LB Auto Clinic would be the most logical place to go to get my brake pads replaced and possibly the rotors as well.. No such luck. I called ahead because I needed to drop off the truck and then get to work. The son seemed nice, so I had hope. He offered to drive me to work from there, so I took my car over first thing in the morning. Mind you, I was scared to even drive it to the shop because the grinding had increased overnight. One of the mechanics said he'd drive me to my office, but in my car!!! I'm sorry, but who drives someone in her own broken car to and from work?!?! Great! So we got to grind the brakes all the way there and back, probably just adding to the damage???? I should've just changed my mind then and there. But I am a laid-back person, and I believe in second chances. So I figured I'd see if they could surpass that bad omen with service... Nope! It took over three hours before I even got a call to tell me what the inspection result was. I had done my research, too. Like I said, I'm a girl, and I ALWAYS get overcharged for anything that has to do with my car. Sure enough, he quoted me at $420+ just for a simple job. I said, "No thank you, that is way out of my price range." I immediately walked over to pick up my truck because it wasn't worth it asking them to pick me up and make my problem worse. I ended up getting shafted and waiting 20 minutes just to get my keys handed to me. Not to mention that they parked my car down the street from the shop! So much for customer service. If you would like to be shafted and low-balled, then by all means, this is the place for you! However, to be fair, I have two good things to say about this place. The location is ideal because it is right next to the 405, so it's easy to see and get to. Additionally, they did not charge me a measly diagnostic fee, which I am grateful for. Perhaps they have bigger fish to fry by ensnaring new customers into the clinic and then performing services for them at twice the cost. I turned to Yelp again out of desperation, and found a place about five minutes from there with WAY better customer service and the same work at half the cost. Yes, HALF the cost. I am not an idiot, and I know when I'm being charged an astronomical amount. This was a ridiculous experience. Needless to say, I do not like wasting my or anyone else's time, so I will not be returning to this "clinic." read more

I have been going to LB Auto Clinic for over 35 years (yes,before they moved to LB Blvd from Spring and Orange. Today they did their usual awesome job for s very fair price. I have compared their prices to other shops and dealers and they are a lot less. After 35 years I have seen no change in prices or fairness since the son took over from his dad.I send every female I know there because I know they will not get taken advantage of like some other shops. They only change extra belts and hoses when they know it will save me money in the long run. John is the most dedicated and honest man I have ever met. He took time and was very exact in diagnosing the overheating problem with my 1996 Olds Aurora. He found the problem, replaced the sensor and asked me to drive it to be completely satisfied or come back and he would dig deeper. My car will be in his car from this point forward. I've been going to Long Beach Auto Clinic for around 20 years. They have always been consistently friendly and thorough. This last visit was no different. We needed the normal oil and filter change, cabin air filter changed, brakes checked and a/c checked. As a woman, I'm always afraid of being taken advantage of - but that has never happened at the Long Beach Auto Clinic. As part of their normal service, they check everything. If something is found to be wrong, they will call you and discuss your options and they do not try to pressure you into anything. my truck had a coolant problem , come to find out it needed a radiator and intake gaskets..this place took me to the cleaners..there your best friend when your talking face to face.once you leave ? they could give a rats azzzz about you..after my truck was fixed, i headed back to Texas..once i left New Mexico, i had to fill my radiator every time i stopped for gas.. i called Mr know it all at lb auto clinic to ask what they might have done wrong ? he asked if i was in CA ? i said no ? i am in TX..his reply :your basically on your own i got your money ! fix your own dam car.. i ended up fixing it . my problem was a heater hose that should have been replaced when radiator was installed ...MECHANICAL ERROR.. it had a clamp on the hose just dangling there..i wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.. if you do happen to go here ? bring Vaseline, they will bend you over..if your looking for a snake oil salesman ? DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! My husband took his 2007 Toyota Matrix into this mechanic after being referred by a co-worker of mine that had gone to them for years. We took my husband's car and explained to them that it was either his alternator or battery. His car was dropped off on a Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday we picked up his car and noticed that his check battery light was on. We informed the son John, who is the owner and he told us that if it did not shut off to bring it back in. The next morning my husband's car was having issues starting. I contacted John (the son) at the shop and explained to him about the issues and he said that it could be the battery since it was the original battery. I was concerned with this comment because typically mechanics run a test on a car to see if it is the alternator or the battery. Wouldn't they have discovered that the battery was bad when they did the original test? My husband's car struggled through out the weekend. By Monday, his car would not start. In the same parking lot of this mechanic is a battery shop (not owned by the same people) and John, the owner of the auto shop, recommended this battery place to us when he said that it might by my husband's battery. On Monday I had to jump start my husband's car and we took it to the battery place. We had them replace the battery and it was replaced with a refurbished battery. I have bought refurbished batteries in the past and have not had issues with them. They checked the voltage in front of my husband and my husband even started the car because he had to move it about 50-100 feet to a parking space in front of the mechanic's shop. Once the battery was replaced the check battery light was still on so we suspected the there was something wrong with the alternator that they had replaced the old one with. John informed my husband that it would get it looked at and would get back to us. Around 1030AM, my husband received a call from John who informed him that a bad alternator had been put in the car and a new alternator would arrive around 1PM and that he would contact my husband once the car was ready. At 430PM my husband called because the shop closes @ 5PM and my husband had not heard back from them. He was informed that his car was ready. When my husband arrived, his hood of his car was open and they were putting the battery back in the car and trying to close the hood. My husband stopped them because he realized that the battery that they were putting back in his car was NOT the one he had just bought that morning. It was way smaller and was moving around. Once my husband starting arguing this point to John he started to cuss at my husband and giving attitude. Of course my husband gave it right back. Then John tried to say that the battery issue was between my husband and the battery place and that they sold him a bad battery. How is that if the car started perfectly fine when he moved it after it was installed.....how about you drained the battery that we had just bought and you now need to replace it with a correct sized battery. After much arguing between the battery place, John the mechanic, and my husband, John informed my husband that he would get him a new battery and to come back in the next day. The next day my husband went down to the battery place and to the mechanic's and was informed by John that he got the price down on the new battery and we just owed $16. His reasoning was because he was getting us a new battery and we had paid for a refurbished battery. Does this make sense to anyone? The auto shop put the bad alternator on in the first place and we think this caused the refurbished battery to drain, then they try to cover up the fact that they had drained our just purchased battery by replacing it with one that does not fit and want us to pay more for a new battery because they are doing us a favor by replacing the battery that they had drained with a newer battery.....really....this is not logical. Of course my husband was not happy with this and he and John began to exchange words. Additionally the day before John got into my husband's face and my husband felt threatened. I was on the phone with my husband the entire time on both of these days and heard every word that was exchanged. This is by far the WORST customer service any where that I have ever experienced. I can not believe that the owner cussed at my husband and called him names. I have been a manager and in customer service for many years. I have had customers yell at me and call me names. I have NEVER yelled or cussed at a customer. Now we are stuck with a car that has a battery that does not fit. The battery place will not do anything for us and John from the auto shop informed us that our warranty is voided because we did not purchase a new battery. Bottom line, auto shop made $300 off of us suckers probably for a battery problem to begin with. So much for honesty. read more
