My office has catered from Pear…read moreTree for a number of years so I've been fortunate enough to be able to try many of the delicious items that they offer. I love the amazing presentation across all items I've seen -- many times exceeding what I've ever seen at weddings. They also provide wonderful cards with descriptions and dietary indicators that look great and are very informative. What really stands out here though is the food quality. All the fruits and vegetables I've had, whether it be in a fruit tray, salad, grilled veggies, etc. are top notch. Generally I won't go towards fresh produce when given other options, but Pear Tree has won me over with their absolutely delicious items. Even items such as breadsticks and crackers with a mix of cheese are absolutely delicious, where the commitment to sourcing quality ingredients is evident with every bite. Salads are also incredibly good here, with fresh greens that are nice and crisp and nice juicy tomatoes and other items like cheese, nuts, fruits, etc. that once again show their commitment to top notch ingredients. Overall, I'm glad that we do so much corporate catering with Pear Tree Catering. Employees are genuinely excited every time they bring in delicious food to the office, as they are consistently excellent across the board with all their offerings

Could not have nicer things to say about working with My Chef and Jamie Walsh for our wedding day…read morecatering. We met Jamie at our venue's vendor expo and were immediately impressed by their services, pricing, and vast food offerings. It was a no brainer to book with their group! We had our tasting a couple months before our wedding day; which is complimentary to the couple and a $50 charge for any additional guest to join. They have you select 8-10 appetizers, 2 salads, and 4 entrees to taste at their Naperville location. They also have displays of china, silverware, glasses and more to help couples select what aligns aesthetically for their special day. Jamie worked with us to make small modifications to their standard offerings to make the food exactly what we wanted! Our wedding day came and we were floored by the quality/presentation of food, level of detail in place settings, and service from all staff members. We had multiple guests say that this was some of the best wedding food they've had, steaks were not over cooked, and food tasted fresh. Jamie also let us add desserts a week out to reallocate money from a couple of guests who last minute were unable to attend. Their team was even nice enough to service items not purchased through their group: disposables for the late night snack, display and refilling of cupcakes, etc. Overall, their group went above and beyond for us under Jamie's leadership. Our tables looked great, our food was wonderful, and their team was fabulous. We truly appreciate all they've done for us and could not recommend them more! Appetizers Selected: Mac & Cheese Bites, Bacon Wrapped Dates w Honey Citrus Sauce, Cocktail Meatballs, Bruschetta Bar Salad Selected: Mixed Field Greens w Pears, Goat Cheese, Pear Infused Vinaigrette. *Alts: Candied Walnuts & Second Balsamic Dressing to offer Dinner Selections: 1. Catering Made Simple was, without question, the most stressful, unprofessional, and disappointing vendor of my entire wedding. What makes it worse is that the owner chose coercion over accountability -- attempting to pressure me into deleting my review before even agreeing to speak with me. That alone should tell you how they handle their mistakes. I posted multiple public notices tagging them and gave them a deadline -- Friday, September 26 at 12:00 PM -- to reach out and make things right. Despite several attempts, they ignored every one. Planning Failures: Our contract clearly stated a plated dinner, and I provided a detailed color-coded diagram with guest names, allergies, and meal choices weeks in advance. Despite this, staff insisted it was a buffet while we were lined up for our ceremony. I had to walk into the reception in my gown minutes before walking down the aisle to correct them. Because of their confusion and refusal to listen, our ceremony was delayed -- critical time lost as we were already working around rain. Execution Failures: We paid for full cake service, but utensils were missing, and flimsy tools from a décor box labeled "Do not use" were handed to us. Our cake, made by a close friend, was ruined when staff shoved a fragile custom topper -- still in its frame -- into the cake, splitting the top tier. One staff member even called it "cheap." They also failed to provide the highboy table we paid for and placed our cake awkwardly in the back of the dessert table. Guest Service Failures: Staff hovered over tables and repeatedly asked guests if they were finished. My own half-eaten meal was cleared while I was in the restroom, leaving me hungry at my own wedding. When I asked for water, I was escorted to the bar instead of being served. Professionalism & Accountability: My coordinator was harassed to the point of tears, and staff even threatened to pull me aside during the reception to complain about her. The owner, Greg, was present all night, saw me address problems directly, and never once spoke to me or apologized. Instead, he posted defensive public comments and tried to coerce me into removing my review. The only positive: the food was warm, tasty, and as expected from the tasting -- but that's where the good ends. The impact on our wedding was significant: * Our ceremony was delayed. * My coordinator was harassed. * Our cake -- lovingly made by a friend -- was ruined. * Guests felt uncomfortable. * I was left hungry. * The owner refused to take responsibility. To top it all off, I have since been blocked from a major Chicago wedding vendor group -- likely due to a complaint from Catering Made Simple -- instead of them engaging in constructive dialogue. Catering Made Simple failed in planning, execution, professionalism, and accountability. They caused unnecessary stress and ruined key moments of a once-in-a-lifetime day -- and then tried to silence me. Brides and grooms: do not risk your wedding on this company.

I've trusted Greg with everything from professional meetings to one of the most important family events of my life, and he has exceeded expectations every single time. For business, he makes it easy. Whether it's a quick breakfast meeting or a client lunch, he works with your budget and still delivers food that has people asking, "Who catered this?" His talent shows in the details, and I've even had friends in fine dining call his dishes "delicious" and "well executed." For personal occasions, there is no one I would trust more. Greg helped make our family gathering not only beautiful but meaningful. He created one of my dad's favorite recipes, elevating it into something that honored him perfectly. The food was outstanding, the presentation gorgeous, and his staff were warm, professional, and genuinely caring. They went above and beyond to make the night unforgettable--we didn't want the evening to end. Greg can do it all: an intimate dinner at home, a business lunch that leaves an impression, or a white-glove wedding that feels like a dream. He's incredibly talented, endlessly creative, and completely reliable. If you can dream it, he can make it happen. I can say with full sincerity that Catering Made Simple is the only caterer I'll ever recommend to call. Once you work with Greg, you'll understand why.

We've been regular customers of the Picnic Basket (restaurant side of this business) for years and Gourmet Food Works actually catered my husband's christening years ago, so there was little doubt they'd be the best choice for our big day. That said, we were very budget conscious, so we definitely did our homework (checked with other caterers, etc.), but in the end no one compared from a price, quality, or service standpoint, and I know we made the right choice going with Gourmet Food Works! From our initial meeting with Ivan, where he answered our million questions and clearly laid out our options.. to the food tasting where he provided us with so many delicious options to choose from.. to the morning of the big day where he and his team showed up early to ensure everything was ready to go.. and finally to the day-of coordination and food service, everything was excellent and far exceeded our expectations. We had our wedding at an amazing but non-traditional location (see: Cypress Resort & Marine in Antioch) which required a bit more logistical consideration than some of the other more traditional venues out there. Ivan and his team actually went out to the site to scope things out ahead of time (on more than one occasion, I believe) to ensure what we were envisioning was feasible. There were also a number of changes and several 'special requests' we made during the process (which I know caused a lot of extra work for Ivan), and throughout everything, he was patient, responsive, and extremely helpful. Arguably most importantly, the food at our wedding was fantastic! We received a number of compliments from our guests, which of course was great to hear. It was also very nice knowing that the day was fully taken care of, as Ivan & Cathie & crew did a great job working with us and our other vendors to ensure everything went off without a hitch. We'd HIGHLY recommend having Gourmet Food Works cater your wedding or party!

He was very familiar with our venue and helped with alot of the planning for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. He really made the whole process a breeze! We had some menu ideas when we arrived for the tasting, months before our wedding, but Ivan brought out samples of SO much food and we ended up picking something completely different. As the bride, I have food allergies (allergic to gluten and dairy) and Ivan was SO accommodating with all the menu choices. Alot of our guests were also GF and he made sure our buffet was all clearly marked with tons of options for everyone. We also had two vegan guests, which had their meals prepared on the side, and they raved about their dish! The day of the wedding, Ivan and his staff were very prompt, professional and smiling all night! At the end of the dinner, the food was packed up for us to take home! They also handled our cake perfectly. I would HIGHLY recommend using Gourmet Food Works for their wedding or special event!

I had to arrange all this from out of town being away unexpectedly for a month until literally the night before my event and had no worries whatsoever. We just held it last weekend and it was a smash. Mitchie and Wan were so accessible and had great suggestions for the menu within my budget, for timing and with all details. Raphael and Isidoro, who were on site the whole event, were fantastic from set up to tear down, keeping things full and fresh, including presentation with tablecloths and flowers on the buffet, and even helping to wrap things and relocate food indoors when the rain started later. We had many, many compliments on the quality and flavor of the food from the main courses to the potato salad and corn sides, cookies and even the trimmings--cherry tomatoes so sweet, pepperoncinis with right bite, and, oh, the pork! Yum. I will now always mix horseradish with my BBQ sauce. Happy to support a family run business who puts people and quality first! Looking forward to using them again for future events.
