That said, we were very budget conscious, so we definitely did our homework (checked with other caterers, etc.), but in the end no one compared from a price, quality, or service standpoint, and I know we made the right choice going with Gourmet Food Works! From our initial meeting with Ivan, where he answered our million questions and clearly laid out our options.. to the food tasting where he provided us with so many delicious options to choose from.. to the morning of the big day where he and his team showed up early to ensure everything was ready to go.. and finally to the day-of coordination and food service, everything was excellent and far exceeded our expectations. We had our wedding at an amazing but non-traditional location (see: Cypress Resort & Marine in Antioch) which required a bit more logistical consideration than some of the other more traditional venues out there. Ivan and his team actually went out to the site to scope things out ahead of time (on more than one occasion, I believe) to ensure what we were envisioning was feasible. There were also a number of changes and several 'special requests' we made during the process (which I know caused a lot of extra work for Ivan), and throughout everything, he was patient, responsive, and extremely helpful. Arguably most importantly, the food at our wedding was fantastic! We received a number of compliments from our guests, which of course was great to hear. We had some menu ideas when we arrived for the tasting, months before our wedding, but Ivan brought out samples of SO much food and we ended up picking something completely different. As the bride, I have food allergies (allergic to gluten and dairy) and Ivan was SO accommodating with all the menu choices. Alot of our guests were also GF and he made sure our buffet was all clearly marked with tons of options for everyone. We also had two vegan guests, which had their meals prepared on the side, and they raved about their dish! The day of the wedding, Ivan and his staff were very prompt, professional and smiling all night! At the end of the dinner, the food was packed up for us to take home! We had our tasting a couple months before our wedding day; which is complimentary to the couple and a $50 charge for any additional guest to join. They have you select 8-10 appetizers, 2 salads, and 4 entrees to taste at their Naperville location. They also have displays of china, silverware, glasses and more to help couples select what aligns aesthetically for their special day. Jamie worked with us to make small modifications to their standard offerings to make the food exactly what we wanted! Our wedding day came and we were floored by the quality/presentation of food, level of detail in place settings, and service from all staff members. We had multiple guests say that this was some of the best wedding food they've had, steaks were not over cooked, and food tasted fresh. Jamie also let us add desserts a week out to reallocate money from a couple of guests who last minute were unable to attend. Their team was even nice enough to service items not purchased through their group: disposables for the late night snack, display and refilling of cupcakes, etc. Overall, their group went above and beyond for us under Jamie's leadership. Well as we all know, that changed due to COVID and while it could have been awful in deciding what we wanted to do, Hels and all of our vendors made us feel so confident in our new plan: 50 people in our backyard. After planning and re-planning and having 3 back up plans just in case, not a beat was missed by Linda and her team. Not only did I have full confidence in them working with our coordinator I had full confidence in stepping back as a bride and just letting them do what they are great at - catering. Our guests are still talking about the food - and that is NOT typical for a wedding. Truly, some of the best food many of us have ever had. From appetizers, to service to plated meals of chicken & steak - Hels is the choice you should make for your next event (big, small or anywhere in between). I would absolutely recommend them, I'm thrilled they are here in Northbrook. As for the food, taste is so subjective and it is hard to please all the people with every dish. Everyone thought the Thai chicken skewers with peanut sauce were delicious. The Mediterranean chicken was also very good (loved the artichokes). The sweet potato mini pancakes were also a hit. The Tangine vegetables were too bland. I like more flavor, spices. To their credit, they use very little salt. The bourbon chicken skewers went untouched. The Jerusalem salad desperately needed dressing, it was also untouched (but of good quality). Having them cater saved us days of time preparing and cooking, it was well worth the money. They are super organized and, as I mentioned above, great people to do business with. We'll certainly try them again now that we know what we like.

We just held it last weekend and it was a smash. Mitchie and Wan were so accessible and had great suggestions for the menu within my budget, for timing and with all details. Raphael and Isidoro, who were on site the whole event, were fantastic from set up to tear down, keeping things full and fresh, including presentation with tablecloths and flowers on the buffet, and even helping to wrap things and relocate food indoors when the rain started later.
