This is a follow up on a review from 3 months ago. See my first for the start of this nightmare. Zero stars if it were an option. 2 days ago I had to put my dog down. He went steadily down hill after his ACL surgery on January 31 in their patchogue location. Although he went in fully active and healthy, he was a completely broken animal from February 1st. He came out blind, had tremors and lost his appetite. He went from a healthy 79lbs to 49lbs in his final days. Drs first response was "blind dogs do very well and adapt "???? After a few follow up visits He attributed his ailments to a brain tumor. Is it a possibility? I guess it could be. It just happened to manifest itself on the day after his surgery. D takes no responsibility. He still took my money though. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND, zero stars if I could. I brought two 14-15 week old kittens here to be fixed and one died in their care and the other also had issues upon discharge. For the one that passed away either during or after spay surgery, the vet couldn't give me a solid reason as to why she passed but she has been vetted elsewhere and had a clean bill of health besides a hernia. They didn't even call me to let me know she passed, I called to follow up after not hearing from them and they told me they were still waiting for her to wake up. When I got there the receptionist told me she escaped the carrier prior to surgery and was joking about moving cabinets to get her when the vet said "the little orange one? It passed." They couldn't give me a reason as to why she passed and suggested feline herpes (they were never sick), fading kitten syndrome or something genetically wrong with the litter such as liver shunt issues (#8 & #9 from this colony and the only ones who had issues). I had her for six weeks and she never showed any signs of anything being wrong. When I brought the second kitten out to the car with me I noticed she looked extremely out of it so I brought her back in. She was assessed by the vet in the lobby and I was told she was fine, to give her time. Two hours later she wasn't making eye contact and couldn't stand, let alone lift her head on her own so I rushed her to the closest vet that would see her. Her temperature was very low and she was given IV fluids, placed on a heat disc and given nutrical plus a can of recovery r/s. I had them run a blood panel and everything came back clear (so no liver issues). After posting on a LI cat group on FB I've had multiple PMs and comments from people all saying that they've had issues with this vet - from botched surgeries to animals that have lost their lives. Take your animals elsewhere. read more

AAAAA+++++ This place was our saving grace we have a 15 year old Pit Bull mix. We thought she had an abscess in her mouth. We were told by another vet that didn't do a proper exam that wanted $2000 to pull teeth. We immediately formed a relationship at D. Kolbert's office with the receptionist. She gave us an appointment. When Dr. Kolbert did his thorough exam he realized it wasn't a tooth abscess it was a tumor that was growing on the inside of her cheek. He gave us our options we decided to take a chance and have the surgery. He did the surgery that day we didn't have to come back!During his surgery he removed skin tags the dog had on her eye and body and cleaned her teeth. He truly cares for these animals. He was a life saver and they don't charge you and arm and a leg. We are truly grateful. Everything came to $1200. The office even gave us cell phone numbers to contact them if we had any issues. I'm not usually one to post reviews, but Long Island Surgery deserves praise. Collectively between my house and my parents, we have 12+ pets 5 or which are dogs so we're very experienced pet owners. When the baby of our pack, a 5 1/2 month old pit/bulldog mix injured his tibial crest, my husband and I were devastated. My vet referred me to Long Island Veterinary Specialists and I avidly said "no freaking way" LIVS operated on cancer-stricken Shiu Tzu, charged us $6000 and WANTED 80% PAYMENT UP FRONT. They said the surgery for my little puppy would be around $5k+ when we called to price it out. After calling multiple places (even in NJ) I stumbled on Long Island Animal Surgery and I could not be more happy. From the first second I called, Sue was truly amazing. She's definitely one of kind and we cannot thank her enough for keeping us in the loop thru ENTIRE process. By that I literally mean, answering her cell off hours, updating me after the surgeon reviewed my pup's X-rays, texting me to check in a couple days before surgery, updating me with photos while my pup was away from home, and texting me before she went to sleep to check in day of discharge. You are truly a gem Sue! The surgeon called me immediately after surgery and gave me a run down of what's needed, what his recovery will entail and so forth. He thoroughly explained what was done and warned me of worse case scenarios etc. Please if your pet finds itself injured, in need of surgery for ANYTHING call LIAS first. They charged me a fraction of what other places were quoting me, cared a great deal about my dog and not the money (I wasn't even asked for a deposit but gave one anyway bc I was truly amazed), and they give you PHENOMENAL care instructions for the weeks ahead, not just days but WEEKS. This clinic was God sent! My 5 year pitt developed bladder stones and his condition was getting worse. I called different surgical centers, even in neighboring states, and they either stated he had to come in for a consultation first, giving me a date months away, or they quoted me a very high price. We were in a tight spot financially and it hurt me so much to see my baby suffering. I was devastated until i found this place. They were able to see him right away, willing to use the MRI and paperwork from the ER, and they quoted me a reasonable price. They also neuter him for an additional fee. I cried! Took both my dogs here to get spayed and not only was it a fraction of the price my vet was going to charge, it was a wonderful experience. My dogs were treated kindly and very well taken care of. Upon leaving, I was given directions for care, and a cell phone number to call in case of emergency. The staff was friendly and made me feel extremely comfortable leaving my dogs there. I used this office years ago for my dog's leg amputation and had a great experience. When I brought her back years later for TPLO surgery, Dr. Kolbert was careless with her recovery. She has 3 legs and I knew recovery would take extra time. They outsourced another vet to do her procedure and Dr. Kolbert took my dog and kept her at his house without my knowledge for the first night of recovery. I only found out the after the procedure was done that this happened. For her 5 weeks post op, my dog ran into a lot of complications and Dr. Kolbert just passed them along like it was nothing. A severe seroma developed and I had to go to my regular vet to get this treated. They gave me additional pain medication and several antibiotics to treat her. I was there three times in one week. Dr. Kolbert and his wife were informed of this said I needed to wait a few days until they opened up again to come back. I was not going to wait while my dog was in pain. He told me I was not being patient and this takes time. During the process, I did not know who the surgeon was that even performed the surgery until the information was released to me weeks later. From that point, I made an appointment with the actual surgeon in Nassau County and he has been a huge help ever since. Upon meeting with the surgeon in Nassau County, he was very upset with the damage done to my dog. He said recovery will be more difficult now and she needed stronger medication since Dr. Kolbert did not put her on anything strong enough for the pain. I will NEVER refer anyone to this office again as I now had to dish out thousands of extra dollars for her recovery, physical therapy, and medications due to Dr. Kolbert's lack of compassion and attention. read more

I brought my dog Chloe to Dr Harrison to be spayed. This Office was much more affordable than other veterinarians I called.. this was not my first experience having a dog spayed so I absolutely have a point of reference. The procedure was quick and Chloe was home within a few hours. By the next morning she was absolutely fine.but the most remarkable part of it all is her scar, which after two weeks was virtually undetectable. I don't even know where to begin. I don't think there are enough positive words in the English language to describe how fantastic Dr. Harrison and her staff are. They are compassionate, and caring. You know from the minute you walk in that everyone there loves what they do. They specialize in general and major surgeries, as well as Low cost spay and neuter and dental work. They are also extremely affordable. Here is an example: My 8 year old Siberian Husky ruptured her ACL in her hind leg and required surgery. I brought her to the Vet she normally goes to for X-Rays and a diagnosis for the problem. After they diagnosed her with a ruptured ACL, they handed me an estimate for over $3,000 for the operation to fix it, with a little disclaimer that it could go as high as $3,300. I called Long Island Animal Surgery to get some information from them. They came back with an estimate of HALF the amount of the other vet. HALF!!!! They are not doing this for the money. They do not nickel and dime you for every little thing. AND! The aftercare visits are included in the price as well. They LOVE what they do. I love what they do, and how they treat my dog. I highly recommend them if your dog or cat needs any kind of surgery, dental cleaning, a spay or neuter. What a great place!!! Definitely 5 stars! read more

In the over thirty years of owning very large beautiful dogs, there have been only three veterinarians who I truly loved and respected for the care they gave to my animals. Dr Kolbert, Kelvin Cummings, and Regina Glandsberg are and have always been true advocates for giving proper care to animals before price and ability to pay. It's a human factor that I can't explain. This place is amazing!! I took my Boston Terrier to my regular vet because she had a protrusion on her stomachs area. My vet told me it was a mass and had to be surgically removed. He then sent in an assistant with an estimate of $1700! I decided to get a second opinion and came to Long Island Animal Surgery. The entire staff made you so comfortable, like you were seeing old friends.. Anyway, they took my girl in and within 10 seconds of feeling the area, the vet described it as being more of an infection, not a mass as my vet had stated. It was soft, not hard like a mass would be. Well they proceeded to do a fine needle aspiration and drain the area. Immediately the bulge went down. He sent me home with 2 weeks of antibiotics and a few days of warm compress therapy, and poof! It was gone. This procedure cost me a little over $100. I'm mentioning the dollar amount because even though I would have somehow found the money to fix my baby girl, it would have to been a little difficult to scrape together. I was extremely upset my original vet would put my baby through an unnecessary surgery. I had a two week follow up with Long Island Animal Surgery and all is well with my Boston. I am so relieved she didn't have to have surgery as well as saving me a ton of money! I would highly recommend this place for any of your animal emergency/ surgery needs! read more

READ ME! Stop looking around for the most talented surgeon and veterinary medical staff in the New York area. THIS IS IT! I can't begin to tell you how incredible the experience is/was. I traveled out from NYC and it was well worth it. Our 3-year-old English Bulldog just got five surgeries at once yesterday and I will update this review after her follow up in two weeks, but there's a reason why Long Island Animal Surgery, Dr. Infernuso (the board certified surgeon), Dr. Kobert, Ana, and Sue are so highly rated. Sue has been SO accessible and helpful--literally can text or call any time with questions which has put our mind at ease and is making the care/recovery process incredible. I've seen many other vets in experience owning dogs for the past 18 years and I've never ONCE encountered a team like this. They only do surgery at this facility--it's how they keep the prices so reasonable. Now obviously surgery is never cheap.. our bully went in for an episioplasty (aka vulvoplasty for her chronic UTIs), a double eye entropion correction (and she was presented with distichiasis found during the procedure that Dr. Infernuso took care of too!) and he did a soft palate resection and stenotic nares surgery...ALL AT ONCE! You never want to cheap out on the care for your beloved pet obviously, but the price point was beyond fair AND HONEST! Extraordinary for a surgeon to be so highly skilled in such a wide range of operations, and to be able to do them successfully at once. I can't believe the way our pup turned out. Most vets don't tell you the true total cost of care upfront--Sue did and her estimate was on point with what I ended up paying. I'm so glad I found out about this hospital! read more

On Wednesday our dog refused to eat (which is highly unusual) and was vomiting all over the place. I thought she had gastritis and brought her to our regular vet. I have been going to my vet for a very long time and have spent tens of thousands of dollars there over the last few years between our various pets. What I thought was going to be a simple visit turned into a nightmare when I found out she had a stomach filled with something that shouldn't have been there. She needed stomach surgery. My dog has fantastic insurance (trupanion) and I was not worried about the bill being covered (estimated around 3,000) but unfortunately after spending tens of thousands of dollars on previous surgeries for our various pets I was short on credit. My current vets office had just been taken over by a corporation and they were not willing to work with me. Luckily one of the sweetest most caring technicians in the world works for Long Island Animal Surgery and she helped me with the insurance to work out the finances. I brought our dog on thursday morning and she was prepped for surgery immediately. They took out the biggest, heaviest wad of disgusting "fibers, plastic and hair" you ever saw. It was as big as a zucchini and had to weigh over a pound. My dog would have DIED if we did not find this place and had their compassionate staff to help us.
