I was really hoping to write a different kind of review. I loved JLS in the 80's. They turned to crap so stopped going till around 2019. The food was so bad that I did call and complain. Manager extremely rude. So, stopped going again until this afternoon. Since the original has been torn down and newly rebuilt we gave it a try. Ordered 2 fish&chix dinners and a kids popcorn shrimp. Grandson would not eat his. Said it was too greasy. Hubby ate his Cole slaw, fries and one piece Chix. I couldn't eat mine at all. The fish was fried so long it was all crunch and no meat. Of the three pieces of Chix two were pink in the center with almost no breading. Third was done well enough but when I bit into it a got a good sized piece of raw-ish skin. The hush puppies were the same - half just barely cooked and the other half overcooked and full of grease. Fries were full of grease and undercooked. Too bad my fish craving arrived a day late. Next time I'll be ordering from Palmer House. Much better food and about $6 cheaper. read more

I've been here twice since they reopened. I had been waiting and counting down the days and was so looking forward to it. In all honesty, the food was better before the remodel. The first time I went, I ordered online and then I sat in line for 40 minutes and when I got up to the speaker, the staff insisted that I needed to come inside to pick up my order because it was an online order. I told them I wasn't aware of that and I was not coming inside because I had already waited in line for 40 minutes and there was nowhere to park in the lot because it was packed. The female was extremely rude, but finally agreed to let me pick it up at the window. Hush puppies were almost too large and full of grease. No flavor, just oil. Inedible!! We also ordered fish, shrimp, and clam strips. The fish was also completely full of grease. We decided to give it another shot a few weeks later and the food was the same. Oversized hush puppies with no flavor that were completely soaked with grease and same with the fish. The shrimp were a bit greasy, but still decent. Not sure why they changed for the worse after the remodel, but we were extremely disappointed, especially to pay all that money and throw the food in the garbage. read more

They are short handed so it took 30 minutes to get my food after the Kiosk. I do not blame them. They were working hard. The food does not look as appealing as the commercials, but the fried fish was delicious. The green beans were edible but also kinda gross. Order something else unless u like them mushy. The hush puppies we're yummy. The Cole slaw was really good. My shrimp was yummy too. Their drink machine had no ice and all the liquids were warm. The place is clean and nicely remodeled. I had a platter of some sort and it cost me just under 20 bucks. I did eat everything so it must have been good but most certainly not healthy. I will return but only once a year. read more

I was on the management team in the early 80s. Recently, I went to the Long Johns that I used to manage on telegraph and goddard. I was appalled, it seemed like there were only two people working there. It took forever to get our meals., I can tell you right now. They weren't following Long, John Silvers, rules on how things were supposed to work. I hand fish and shrimp. The shrimp we're little curled up balls we were trained to do something called swimming the shrimp, which means you drag it across the oil and it will stay straight and the fish had batter all out on the edges.The only thing that was any good were the hush puppies. read more

That was a total mess of fried food I have ever witnessed. I like fast food and it can be fun and tasty. The was a mess they were out of wraps outs of Mac and cheese. The wraps could be picked up at the aldi next door. Staff were loud rude and mouthy. All the sauces that go with the food are behind the counter un marked.... Yes tartar sauce and ranch go with that type of food. Pepsi only for coke lovers. The atmosphere is dreadful if you enjoy bare light bulbs burning your eyes while you eat this is the place for you. I've been here 4 times since they reopened. Every time my food is hot, but wait times are getting longer and longer. The third visit, I was in the drive thru 30+ minutes. My last trip, I ordered on the app and waited 10 minutes before I left my house. I went inside and there were 3 people at first, but one left. Then there was 2. At 5pm prime dinner rush. There was a young lady that was completely overwhelmed and a gentleman that was new and never assembled a meal, just ran the fryer. But he gave it a shot. I'm happy to say he did ok, but I was short a cole slaw! I waited in the lobby for about 30 minutes to get 2 dinners. I hope they are not on the path they were before the remodel. The food is pretty pricy. They need help to get orders out quickly or they won't last long. I was a little upset that a manager was not there to help with the chaos. LJS has arguably the unhealthiest menu in all of fast food. Unfortunately though, the best days of this chain are far behind it. Along with the ill fated Arthur Treacher's, this restaurant is most famous for offering a majority seafood based menu. It's truly one of the greasiest fish & chips you could possibly eat, but man is that batter amazing. Many will argue that the best item they offer is their hush puppies, which I can say is quite delicious. At the end of the day unless you grew up eating this, you're not going to find anything special here. For the money that you spend on their meals, you could go to a traditional bar or restaurant that offers better quality fried fish or shrimp. This place does LJs right! The food is on point LJs fried fish, chicken and hush puppies. This is how I remembered growing up. Everything was fresh fried, crisp, hot and tasty. It is not the healthiest way to eat your food, but wow flavor if you have the craving for some good LJ style fish and chicken! Wow I enjoyed how Aaron cooked up the food and he wanted to make sure it was good for me and that I enjoyed it last time - this was our second visit! I thought this was very cool and shows pride in his work! Tiffany is always so friendly taking your order and she makes sure your to go orders are right! I haven't had LJS food since I was a kid, and came in hopes of hush puppies and flaky fish. I ended up ordering a family meal. I was the only person there, so the service was fairly quick and the woman at the window was very nice. The food, however, was not. Grease, grease, and grease. The fish and chicken were odd shapes and flat, and appeared to be more oil and breading than actual meat. Craving fried fish I came here but was disappointed. The drive thru was sloooooooooow. It took 20+minutes to order and get my food. The cashier joked about how slow it was which I did not find funny. Instead of making jokes why not help the kitchen get the food out faster. Frustratingly, the wait was as long as Popeyes. I had a Pollack combo with fried shrimp and hush puppies. The fish was poor quality and SALTY. It wasn't a thick piece like it used to be. The fish was like minced pieces fried together in a salty batter. I like fried food in moderation but this was just awful and almost inedible. Unfortunately, my days of eating LJS are over. The amount of salt and grease my body cannot handle anymore. read more

My family and I went through the drive-thru just now. Due to Covid-19, they don't have their dining room open (Even though, the governor finally opened restaurants at 25% capacity a month ago! And, we know, there's NO way they are anywhere NEAR 25% capacity!) My friend was driving. He is a 71-yr-old Vietnam Vet who is on oxygen. But, she told us we couldn't use 3 coupons, because it's only "1 per customer". He told her there were 4 people in the vehicle, and therefore, we should be able to use them, and that it was a ridiculous rule. She went silent, and didn't talk for about 2 minutes. I thought maybe she walked away to ask a manager. After us repeatedly saying "Hello??" (no less than 5 times). She finally said "Uh, yeah sir. I'm WAITING on YOU!" I told her perhaps we could solve it by going through the drive through and placing 3-4 orders. She nonchalantly replied "Sure. If you want to." My friend on the other hand figured they would probably spit in our food by now, if we ordered, so we left. They lost out on no less than $40, but it was more important for them to cater to the DoorDash delivery person, who was the only other customer. I'm surprised LJS is still in business, and this is the kind of lazy-@$$ rude employee they employ to chase their customers away??? read more

I've gone here many times in the past because it's right around the corner and LJS are few and far between. The fish in the past used to be white, flaky, and in that original triangle-ish shape. This fish was flat, dark meat, not flaky, weirdly shaped, non-crunchy, and small. The chicken used to be the same as the fish. Shaped the same and everything. This chicken was just a chunk of chicken breast that was dark, greasy, non-crunchy without the original shape. It seems to me that they are not using the original LJS chicken and fish. It seems they are using store-bought or Gordon Foods to cut cost because this is not original meat. Will have to travel to the Telegraph LJS or just go to Captain Jay's. Sorry 'bout that. read more

Stopped by LJS in hopes they had lobster bites, but they didn't! BUT what they did have at this location was employees who wanted to be there, employees who were patient, you can tell they work as a team here by the energy you feel when you walk into the place! I placed my order to go and witness the manager coming from around the counter to bring. Unheroic customers their food as they say comfortably in the lobby! The food was so hot and fresh! HORRIBLE!!! I will never go to another Long John Silver's because of the way I was treated when I went into this one. It took almost 10 minutes for someone to take my order, then after 3 other customers came in, were waited on and got their food, mine was finally ready. Took it home to my parents and it was dripping in grease, the hush puppies were raw, chicken was too tough to chew, but the corn was great. Wifey and I recently moved into this area and while she's not a huge seafood fan overall, for some strange reason she is absolutely loving the fried fish- before, we maybe had it once a month- now we have yellow box fish at home every week and, now with a Long John Silvers literally the closest fast food restaurant near us (Wendy's is right next door), our arteries will probably not thank us down the road. I came for a quick drive-through lunch for the both of us and so I cannot comment on the cleanliness or atmosphere, but let's just say, once you've been to one LJS, you've been to them all. I ordered a Fish and Chicken platter with two sides of fries instead of the coleslaw and it came to around $10. The two pieces of fish and the three pieces of chicken planks were HUGE. Surprisingly, the batter and the overall quality of the chicken was exactly how I remembered from eating there maybe 2-3 years ago. It was hot, golden crispy and delicious to me anyways. The fish was decent also- wasn't pure white fish, but then again, it's LJS. Fries were blah, but at least they were hot, and the hushpuppies were just two balls of cornbread. Found out that we receive monthly coupons because of our new proximity to this LJS and saw I can get the same platter (which easily fed both of us) for around $6. Not too shabby for deep fried seafood that both of us will enjoy... we probably won't go every week but definitely for a big cheap lunch, we will keep LJS on the radar. But we'll definitely drive through rather than go in. 4 stars for value for the money and quantities, not neccessarily quality and service. read more

So tonight was one of those nights where I didn't feel like cooking or dressing up to be around people. So to the drive-thru I went. I hadn't had LJS (Long John Silver) so I took the ride. One thing I am not a fan of is the soda selection. Although I am more partial to Coke beverages LJS could stand to expand there drink selection. After placing my order, I drove up to pay and drive home with tonight's dinner. After handing over my payment the cashier told me that they only had one of my orders. I had to pull over wait. Which it wasn't a long wait. So I ordered the Fish Meal which consist of 2 pieces of fish, 2 sides and 3 hushpuppies with a regular size drink. I was only given 4 tartar sauces for my meal so I definitely had to request more. Once I got home and was ready for dinner one thing I must ask LJS WHY DID YOU ALL CHANGE THE TO GO CONTAINER????? No happy about that. The coleslaw is as good as I remember. The fish was crispy on the outside, it was okay. But the star of the meal...drumroll please The HUSHPUPPIES were the highlights of the meal. Those hushpuppies made hush as I bit into the warm, fluffy goodness. I would go back for the hushpuppies!
