Last month, I came here with my friends and boyfriend for a birthday dinner. My boyfriend and I came here once back in 2012, but that was the ONLY time we came and then we never came back. I was trying real hard to remember why we never returned until recently and then it hit me. The answer was the food. Nothing changed in the last four years - decor, atmosphere, menu, and pricing remained the same. Even the food was mediocre. So this is what we had/shared: Best Seller Roll Combo (eel roll, spicy scallop roll, spicy salmon roll, and California roll). - The sushi was okay, but not the best I've had. I feel like they've all tasted the same. Takoykai - one of my favorite Japanese appetizers and it was on par! It was moist, delicious, and just melts in your mouth. Stuffed Squid - is one of the more popular menu items and it was one of the better tasting dishes we had all night. I liked this appetizer a lot! Since it was freezing outsid,we ended up getting ramen. I'm a huge fan of Tonkotsu so that's what I ordered. The ramen had everything a typical ramen would have - half egg, fish cake, bamboo shoots, scallions, corn, chashu, but the problem here is the noodles were well done and didn't taste or feel like ramen. The broth was extremely white like a cream based soup. Another issue was the ramen was tasteless, couldn't enjoy that pork-like taste very much. One friend got the Satay Grilled Chicken Ramen and my boyfriend and the birthday girl got the Curry Seafood Ramen. They said their ramen wasn't very savory either . There was also minimal curry flavor to it. This experience reminded me why my boyfriend and I have never thought of going to Longevous Joy for food. The quality of the food can use improvement. I would rather travel out to East Village for delicious Japanese soul food isntead and ramen with flavorless broth is heart breaking. I think the chances of coming back would be close to slim. I think the only time I would come back to this restaurant is if a friend just wanted to come to try it out and of course at that point I would put away my opinions of this restaurant. Don't be captivated by their low prices and pretty pictures because the hassle just is NOT worth it. I already expected them to be busy since it was NYE so I placed my order around 5:45 pm for pickup later that evening giving them more than enough time. I show up around 8pm ready to pick up a platter of sushi for my potluck dinner. The lady tells me it's cancelled. I was confused... I'm like excuse me? What? She goes "yea we had a lot of cancellations so we cancelled everyone's orders." I. WAS. LIVID. I was in shock and disbelief that's how a small business is treating their customers? They cancelled my order with no explanation or phone call even though they had my number down. She even gave me an order number and everything. The girl definitely knew she f'd up because when I confronted her, I saw her looking down and flipping through some receipts or papers. She remembered me placing the order but obviously that doesn't matter to this establishment. Ok maybe not those $$$$ sushi restaurants but it was definitely more worth it than Ki Sushi. If you read my review for Ki Sushi, I was definitely not impressed or pleased with my experience but this place definitely got me wanting more. We ordered the sashimi special ($21) which was super worth it for more than 20 different types of sashimi (peep my picture), best seller combo (spicy salmon), which had four rolls of sushi for only $12!!!, tako wasabi ($6), tako yaki which comes in six ($5), and hokkaido sashimi bowl ($16). It can literally feed 6 of me with all this food for only $60!!!!!! Yes all those exclamation marks are needed. YOU MUST GO AND TRY IT FOR YOURSELF. Even if it may not satisfy you because you had top notch sushi before, this is still worth it for its price! BUT beware - the person sitting by the door wasn't very nice. It's definitely the way he was brought up but if all you do is focus on how amazing the sushi is, then you're good. Anddddd she's back for sushi. After discovering uni a few months ago I went on a frenzy for it. I couldn't stop scoping out where it was served and how I can get it at $$ and below prices. Longevous offers a variety of uni dishes, including mini uni aburi rice, uni sashimi for $3 a piece, uni sushi with squid and unagi. Course I had to have it all and then some. In addition i ordered their spicy scallop and sweet potato shrimp. All these dishes are small, could almost call it japanese tapas. I loved all the uni dishes, fresh and creamy just the way it's suppose to be. Very good uni for a very good deal. Their scallop sushi and sweet potato shrimp was great too. Fresh and savory. They have so much delicious appetizers. Most of them comes with pictures for you to pick. Each appetizers has its own sauce. The temperatures of the food were just right. With the price that's listed on the menu the portion was a pretty big. Compare to all the local Japanese restaurants around here, the price is not that bad. Longevousjoy used to be my go to spot until management changed to another group. I've been seriously taken aback by the service provided at this restaurant. For starters, the workers are rude and gives everyone attitude. When I went to pick up my lunch, instead of handing me my take out order, the waiter pointed at the side table and made me grab it myself. I handed you money for this order, the least you can do is hand me my food. Later in the afternoon, we find workers smoking weed inside the restaurant. To my understanding drugs are not for use while on duty, especially if you are doing so in public eye. Keep your personal decisions personal! This is a nice spot for Japanese food, pretty unique spot compare to the other family owned ones. Their sashimi are fresh most of the time. The rolls are at a very reasonable price, but good. They recently added new items to the menu which is pretty impressive as well. My favorite thing about them is the fresh grind wasabi! The appetizers are really good! Wasabi mayonaise goes amazing with everything. The flavor isn't as strong as I'd liked it to be but you can still taste the wasabi-ness to it. My favorite dish here has to be the stuffed squid hands down. The texture and flavor is just right. they stuff immitation crab meat and a little piece of asparagus into a grilled squid and omg, the flavor is just delectable! The kickass fries were okay, Chili sauce that came with the kickass fries tasted like Wendy's Chili, kinda weird but I'll take it. I didn't like the calamari here though, I think I'm more into Italian kind. I found the batter to be a bit overwhelming and not as fresh as I'd like it to be. Mayo with calamari is a weird combo in my opinion. Okonomiyaki here was really fresh and delicious. I love how the bonito flakes flow, its kinda creepy but delicious when eaten. I came here with my parents on a Tuesday night around 7pm. We got a table immediately. I'm surprised the reviews aren't great - we had a delicious dinner and thought everything was fresh. Waiters were quick and dishes came out rapidly too. Food: We had the Feast Salmon, a shrimp tempura roll, unagi BBQ eel over rice bowl, and Japanese calamari. The six slices of salmon sashimi were thick and fresh (I was pleasantly surprised), and calamari was plentiful. The prices are very fair! Or maybe I'm just used to Manhattan prices :( Service: There were two waiters and they were quick taking our orders, bringing us the food, bringing out my dad's birthday cake, etc - even though it was a full house later around 8pm. I was hungry and appreciated the very efficient chefs! Decor: Cute! I was confused at the restaurant sign outside (it was all Chinese) but once you go in you'll see Japanese decor, including a plush octopus on the wall. I just had ayce sushi buffet like 2 days ago and the quality was way better than the rolls here! You know you have a problem when all the rolls taste the same...Honestly, if it didn't list which rolls are in this combo on the menu, I would've never been able to figure out what each roll was (ok maybe I'm not that stupid but you get the point). The eel roll was not fresh at all and the rice was stale. For the California roll, the rice was mushy and tasted like rice you would serve in a bowl for dinner. The spicy salmon roll did not have the texture of what spicy salmon should taste like and the spicy scallop roll tasted like nothing... Stuffed squid with crab- Bland!!! If it wasn't for the soy sauce that they drizzle on it, I'm sure it would've been completely flavorless. Texture of the squid was alright but the imitation crab stuffed inside was...I don't even know a good way to describe it besides not good. I hate giving 1 star reviews, especially when the service is nice. But the food here really was not good. And I think if they were cheaper, I'd give this place 4 stars... Each Don/noodle dish cost about $10. I personally ordered the Chirashu bowl ($13), which were about 10 pieces of fresh salmon (nice and tender, loves the texture on it. Just flavourless...) a slice of avocado, some cucumbers and half a bowl of rice. Wasn't blown away, but it hit the spot. It was a very fulfilling chirashu bowl. I think the assorted Chirashu bowl was $15, and I might like to try that sometime. Oh and when it comes to modifying your order, they suck at it. I asked for no rice, and the waiter just says to me," why don't you just order sashimi?" It's definitely not on par with some of the Ramen houses in Manhattan. I didn't like the lettuce/napa cabbage whatever the veggie was that they put into it. Hated the texture. One thing I have to say was the appetizers were pretty awesome and the one thing that saved this experience. I particularly enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and the tuna, avocado salad. I didn't enjoy the squid, in fact none of us had more than 1 or 2 bites of it. It was definitely not crispy as it was described by the other reviewer. I've been coming to this spot pretty often! I tried to give everything a try and see how well the place was doing. The atmosphere here is very family oriented but quite small! Don't let that bother you because they have more seating in the basement! Their sushi roll combo is what I always come back for because it's so good and it actually fills you up! By the looks of it outside, this restaurant stood out from the rest of the restaurants at Bay Parkway. My brother and I were looking for a place to eat in the evening. We've decided to take a paper menu from the inside of the restaurant to look at the selections before going in and sitting down. As we looked through them, we realized that everything on it was different from the menu we took from outside. The menu they gave us contained no specials nor bento boxes. We decided to look at the paper menu instead since it was easier to read, before a waiter came up to us and said, "That is the takeout menu. You can't order from it." I was quite astonished. Why is there a separate menu for takeout and dine-in? Seeing that we've already sat down, we decided that it was best to just give this place a go and order some food. We ordered some fries that came with a wasabi mayo dipping sauce along with eel rolls and a fried shrimp roll. My brother and I aren't picky eaters, but if we were to pay this much for food, we'd expect more. An order of fries costed $6 and it was just a small plate of fries, which wasn't bad, but definitely was not worth it. I can probably go across the street to Vivi's and get some similar quality and amount of french fries for less than half the price. Same with the rolls, they were mediocre. I've had similar quality rolls from AYCE sushi restaurants. The whole cost of our experience is similar to that of eating at an AYCE sushi restaurant, except we were still hungry after our meal. If only we were told the paper menu was different from what we can order dine-in, then we might've not eaten here. No where on the menu did it say it was a take-out menu. Will not ever visit again. The decor and menu of this place really reminds me of restaurants in the St. Marks area in Manhattan. We had the chili fries, mussels motoyaki, takoyaki donut, pork belly buta bara, stuffed squid, gyu don, best seller roll combo, and the combo D forgot what was in it. The fries were ok, not the best fries as how many people say it was. Probably wasn't even hand cut fries. The mussels were good and didn't have a bad ocean taste. The stuffed squid was ok but after eating a few more pieces, it didn't really taste that great. The takoyaki donuts were good. Flavorful and just great. Taste almost as good as the ones I had in some restaurant at St. Marks. The best seller combo and the other combo consisted of rolls which tasted fresh and the rice proportion was just right. But still not the best I have ever tasted. Overall, this is a nice little restaurant that is similar in style to restaurants at St. Marks. Service was good, was offered tea and it was consistently refilled. Food came out quickly. The food was just ok except the takoyaki donut. That stood out as the only good dish out of the night. Considering the fact that they're more expensive than the other Japanese cuisine restaurant close by, I expected better. The takoyaki was mushy, and had octopus pieces that were 1.5cm at max...probably even smaller, I didn't notice it most of the time. They fell flat by the time I came back home; I'm pretty sure they aren't supposed to fall flat. Though I don't know, maybe I have a misconception of proper takoyaki, since this has happened in 2 restaurants now. The spicy salmon roll & lobster salad roll are just overpriced california rolls with salmon/lobster put ontop. Would've been nice if that was mentioned on the menu, because spicy salmon roll usually means that the actual roll has salmon in it as well. This really irked me, because I do not like california rolls as much as I like salmon rolls. I'm not going to say this place has bad food. It doesn't. The food tasted good, the only 2 complaints I have is the misleading menu (takoyaki looked better on menu) & the price. Probably only going to come back to see if their Okonomiyaki is good. So finally Went to try this new place in the area.. we came around 540pm and it was pretty empty. We got seated right away. The place looks pretty cozy even though it was cold inside. We got served hot green tea in plastic cups, no water was given. The service was good. The food was Ok. Nothing special. I don't eat rice so I've got to try a real fish taste lol honestly for the price we paid it was Overrated and not as tasty as I though it's going to be. We packed more than 80% food to go. I would only go back there to try their ramen because it looks mad good but deff not coming back for sushi. Plus both and my friend got so sick from this place. read more

Well, I checked ppl's comments here before I went there. I saw a lot complains about their service but I decided to give a try. No problem! Their service is just fine. We were sent to a table nicely and they even tried to stop us to make more dishes because we ordered too much. Damn! I don't understand those naive ppl. Anyway, the sashimi is fresh. Pretty darn good with the people, the food, the decor. For a small establishment, you can leave with a decent bill where you'd be full and carry out a belief that the money was well spent. One star is removed because they serve hot tea in plastic cups. WHY are you pouring hot liquid in things that can melt?? read more

My pleasure to provide this update. This is my 3rd time at this place and their sashimi is consistently good. Probably the best in the area. I love their fresh wasabi. They only serve it with their sashimi. Highly recommend anyone to try their sashimi. read more
