This location is one of the two locations that I like. I like this one because if they got the deals I can just go during my lunch to shop for it...and I'm getting my steps in for the day as well...so it's a win win. I like that they have their sales posted up when you enter. I like to check it out in case there's something I didn't see earlier. Their best deal for me is their Tiger brand flasks. It's really expensive at regular price so it's suuuuuper worth it to but it when it's on sale. They also have good deals on snacks and candy. The staff there are nice and helpful when you need the help. For this Longs location being located in the mall, it's not ridiculously packed, which I like. I don't have to scramble through people just to browse for things. This past visit I came across "Mystery Oreos". If you're an oreo lover, go and buy it. I'm buying it the next time I go! read more

Many locals, including myself, loves shopping at Longs Drugs for their weekly sales, but this branch is definitely not one of my favorites to shop at. I do appreciate there being a drug store located at the Ala Moana Shopping Center because it comes in very handy while shopping or dining at the center for a quick gift card and wrapping paper, a necessity or two, but I save all of my weekly hefty sales shopping for one of their other many locations on Oahu. First reason would be because I don't want to be lugging large plastic Longs bags around the Mall or be forced to walk to my car mid shopping. Second would be that their prices aren't the cheapest, so if I had a long list of items I would save my shopping for my local Target or Walmart store instead. I find this branch is always crazy busy because of it's location always full of locals stocking up on their great weekly sales items or tourists picking up some travel necessities and their souvenirs. I am also not a fan of their weird cramped layout. I do give them a little credit for extending their store with the pharmacy and drug renovations, but the original portion of their store still remains cramped. I am glad to see that even though they were bought out by CVS a few years ago, they were still able to keep their familiar Hawaii household name that locals grew up with. read more

I like this Longs because it's conveniently located inside Ala Moana mall, and they are stocked with a lot of nice stuff pretty much everytime I come here. However, I feel kind of creeped out sometimes by some of the employees in the beauty/makeup section. I came here a couple days ago with a friend to help her buy makeup for a wedding reception, and there was a older woman employee who just stood behind us the entire time, very closely. She was acting like we were about to shoplift or something lol. I would assume she was there to help us but she tried to be sneaky and silent behind us, didn't say anything to us or offer us help. The second I noticed her and made eye contact, she knew that I noticed her acting suspicious of us and she steered away very quickly. Again, without a greeting or asking us if we were looking for anything, or if we needed help. There were plenty of other customers in that section and most of them were trying to get someone to help them, but this worker was just intent on lurking behind me and my friend. When I think about it, I've experienced this a couple times before when I visited this location but the other workers didn't make it as obvious, and they always greeted me and asked if I needed help once I noticed them. I get that being in Ala Moana, this store might have experienced a lot of shoplifting. But it doesn't feel good to be treated this way and stereotyped. I hope things will improve because I genuinely do enjoy coming to this location otherwise and I don't want this experience to happen to other innocent customers as well read more

Longs Drugs was a good company that provided quality goods and quality service geared towards a local clientele. Unfortunately that Longs Drugs was sold to CVS who gutted all that was good about the original company but kept the name in order to dupe elderly Kamaaina into buying low quality goods from a poorly managed store with the same name. +1 star for the kind pharmacy employees who are too nice to voice their frustrations with the understaffed checkout lines and the continuous gotcha corporate sale gimmicks. read more

In 2008, when I heard that CVS had acquired Longs and would convert all the Longs to CVS, I wondered how it would affect the Longs at Ala Moana Center, which has been on my "must-go" shopping destination whenever I visit Honolulu. From a friend that had worked at Longs headquarters, the Ala Moana Longs was the highest grossing store in the Longs chain. So it was good news when CVS announced that it would retain the Longs Drugs name in the Hawaii stores "because of its high name recognition and the geographical separation." So on my recent trip to Honolulu, it was great to see the Longs Drugs logo and not the CVS logo on the stores as on the mainland. Longs has been my store to pick up cans and bags of macadamia nuts and boxes of chocolate covered versions as well. They also carry the Hawaiian Sun fruit drinks, shortbread cookies and Hawaiian coffees. I even was able to find a haircare item,which is not sold in the SF Bay Area for my mom. Since we were in Honolulu during two weeks, I was able to pick up different gifts that were on sale during the two weeks. Similar to mainland stores, new sales prices start on Sunday, so plan your purchases accordingly. Longs is a truly shopping store for visitors and locals alike with prices that fare better than your ABC stores. So happy that Longs stayed unchanged and the only evidence of CVS ownership is that you need to show your CVS card to get sale prices. read more

This is by far, the worst Longs to shop at ever. They are extremely cramped as all Longs are but this one is small and crowded with a lot of stuff and customers. Thankfully, no carts and only baskets are available for customers to use. The lines are always long. Also it is full of tourists who tend to block the aisles as they debate over omiyage. They do have essentials and its convenient when you are in Ala Moana. I usually try to run in to get some candy or a drink, no heavy duty shopping. They also have some touristy things you don't find in the other Longs as well. It is located on the second floor in Ala Moana Center, on the Sears side. read more

I've been coming to this Longs drugs since I was a child. We used to parked in front of Longs (back then there were many parking spots to choose from), We would make our way towards Shirokiya, then buy some fancy clothes at Liberty House, then eat some kind of snack and walk back way towards Longs. This was way before they built another garage level. Way before they added the fancy shops. And inside here it's still mostly the same. It's always a walk down memory lane, going through the aisles and different departments (Pharmacy, cosmetics, etc). I love how nothing really changed at this store. I know now it's part of CVS, so it's kinda strange to see the mainland brand logo on some items in this local store. Prices are pretty decent here. I never noticed the souvenir aisle until now and they always have some really good sales. I can't leave Hawaii without buying boxes of chocolate mac nuts. Arare. Furikake. Pharmacist John of Longs/CVS inside Target Ala Moana is a true example of exemplary customer service. Yesterday, my regular hospital pharmacist could not provide my medication. This is the second time it had happened. On refill day I was out of my regular maintenance medicine and I had no other options. I became desperate and then I remembered pharmacist John at Longs Drugstore inside Target Ala Moana. John had helped my wife several times prior and was exceptionally kind and helpful to her. So I proceeded to Longs at the Ala Moana Mall. Pharmacist John understood my urgent need for my maintenance medication ,however, his pharmacy did not have my medicine in stock. Exceeding our expectation, John , despite being busy with other customers, called on several other Longs drugstore locations in the Kaka Ako area. Thankfully, John connected me to the new Longs Ward location that had my medication. Pharmacist John is a godsend! A pharmacist who cares for all his customers and especially seniors. John saved me from agony and discomfort. MAHALO John! You and your staff deserve 5 stars for your continued kindness and understanding. This review is for the pharmacy only. I recommend considering another pharmacy to fill your prescriptions. I've had several concerning incidents here. In one incident, someone else's prescription was somehow stapled to mine, so I walked out with theirs unknowingly. Of course, I was mortified when I discovered this, called the pharmacy and returned the package. I understand it's human error, but you really have to be careful because this is a huge HIPAA violation. The pharmacy staff was grateful when I brought it back and I didn't expect anything, but they didn't offer me any Longs coupon or anything for the inconvenience. Second, I feel the staff here aren't always looking out for the customer. My doctor prescribed a medication that I later learned is also available OTC and no one here thought to tell me this would be a cheaper option. When I called to complain, I was told, "You could've asked." Excuse me, but how is someone supposed to know this? We don't all work in the industry and this isn't common knowledge. Third, I tried to get a price adjustment since apparently by law they cannot take back prescription drugs. I found a coupon through GoodRx and called to ask if it would work. The person said the system wasn't accepting it and she could only find a coupon for $3 off. I didn't think it was worth it to go back just to save a few bucks. A few days later I had to go to the mall anyway, so I stopped by to try my luck in person and the woman who helped me was able to process the coupon without any problem. I guess it depends on who you get on the phone/in-person, some staff are more helpful than others. I still decided to transfer my prescriptions to another pharmacy though. I just don't want to go through the hassle of all this again and I want to patronize a business that's actually looking out for the consumer and not just concerned with policies and making money. Healthcare, insurance, prescription drug coverage, etc. are complex areas that most of us don't know much about, so we need to be able to rely on those are in those industries to help and guide us. read more

I came in here looking for a few select items. There was a lot of people! Well then again it is located in Ala Moana, it has less room than other Longs stores and it's after Christmas. The first item I went looking for was hair spray. I don't really use it but it's for someone. Couldn't find the specific one. I might as well look in a hair salon. There's just too much people. A great place for tourists to find gifts to take home. I wanted to get dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts as gifts. I couldn't just settle for milk chocolate covered nuts because the Costco in California has them for less than they cost in Hawaii! The selection at stores on Waikiki was abysmal. Prices are about the same unless Longs or ABC is running a special that week. I was totally lost in this oddly shaped store, but a friendly employee showed me the section. It's quite large and they carry many different boxes and bags. Be careful when picking the boxes. Some of them look big, but are mainly plastic packaging. It took me forever to decide because there were so many options and they were arranged back-to-back in separate aisles so I kept walking around to look at the choices. Seriously, Erica was super helpful and even though their store was mad busy with customers she kept calm and brought the line down quicker than I've ever seen it go. And all without compromising the level of service. When my turn came up I didn't expect any less. I had only found one coupon to use in my transaction, out of the million coupons CVS prints, and she was nice enough to take the coupon I knew I could use and even asked me for the other crumpled ones in my hand. I though she was being nice and was going to throw them away but just her skimming through them she realized that I could use even more of them. Instead of saving just $2 she saved me $12! That's $10 whole dollars more than I thought I was able to save! [And she took my eco bag and bagged all my stuff professional level too!] She's so professional for someone who looks so young! It has been awhile since I came to the Longs at Ala Moana. I remember last time they were doing some renovation and there was a lot of clutter. Its more organized now and there is more space in between shelves. Make up, soap, toiletries, perfume section looks more organized. CVS is intent on filling prescriptions that are not needed or wanted. Apparently this is a corporate imitative to boost sales. The local store has pleaded that they have nothing to do with automatic refills. Even when you ask not to have your prescription automatically filled you get a test that you have a prescription to be picked up. The texts continue to be sent until you call the store, wait 15 minutes to be helped and then are told you have to call corporate office to stop future texts. Time to change to Costco or Walgreens. read more

Need to be more CLEAR on their self checkout lanes. DISTINGUISH where the LINE actually starts or if it's just one line in general. I was told to wait in line next time because their were guests before me however I know I was before them just waiting in the lane that is pointed towards the card only self checkout. Last time I had used their self checkout, they had two lines for the self checkout one on the left and one on the right. Today I was on the right yet I was told I needed to wait on the left side. Very upset that this lady had told me that when she clearly didn't see me waiting in line for about 5 min and was waiting before everyone else that waited in the other lane. This is a review of the pharmacy (really the pharmacist) at this particular Longs Drugs. I generally like Longs and also appreciate the pharmacy at my home location on Kauai, but yesterday I was in Oahu for surgery on my back and needed to use this location to fill a prescription. Upon drop off of my prescription the pharmacist immediately declared the prescription by my surgeon to be inappropriate and refused to fill my prescription without confirming with the Dr first. Problem is, it was Aloha Friday and just after 5pm by the time I arrived at Longs and the clinic he works out of had just closed. When I objected to her handling of the situation (really it was her poor, entitled attitude) she became incredibly defensive and treated the situation as though it was an atrocious prescription of the pain meds. Mind you it was for a narcotic (oxy), but she made it out to be doses that were way higher than normal. And upon my objection declared that she would definitely not fill it for me now. It appeared obvious to me and my escort that she was treating me as though I was untrustworthy and like a drug abuser. I went to another pharmacy down the road (Sams Club) and they filled the order that the Dr had prescribed, because that's what Pharmacies do. Of course I was warned by the Pharmacist about the strength of this drug and how to use it. After returning home I started on the meds at half dose because there was a part of me that was scared based on the way she and the other Pharmacist treated the situation. After taking the drugs I waited for them to kick in, and waited, and waited, for nothing. I then did some research online and realized I had taken what appears to be the lowest possible dosing of this particular pain med (5mg) and it literally had no effect on the pain. I previously was prescribed Tramadol for this same injury to my back, which is of the mildest type of narcotic and it had a greater effect on the pain at the Dr prescribed dosing (50-100mg). I also learned in my searches that these meds can have a different effect for everybody based on the differences in our body chemistry. I understand that there is a concern for drug abuse of prescription narcotics and there is a responsibility to the community for Drs and Pharmacist to be cautious in their dealings, however I can't help but wonder how your personal trip interferes with the need of patients, and subsequently what is more dangerous? I also question what you know about back surgery and the pain relief requirements and body tolerances of all the different patients that walk through your doors? Shame on you for being a pain in the ass, post surgery on an Aloha Friday. read more

To continue with my complaint about the Longs Ala Moana Pharmacy policy of not having informing customers medications are not in stock until time of pick up, the Pharmacy technician checks the inventory and informs me the medication is in stock at the Waikiki location. Also the pharmacy technician informs me the order has been submitted to the Waikiki CVS Longs Pharmacy. I drive to the Waikiki Longs and wait 15-minutes for the pharmacy to open. As soon as it opens I inform the Waikiki pharmacy technician of my experience at the Ala Moana location and informed the pharmacy technician I was their to pick up my medication. To NO SURPRISE the pharmacy technician tells me the Waikiki pharmacy does not have the medication in stock and the order was never placed at the Waikiki pharmacy. To TOP IT OFF I not only drive from Ala Moana to Waikiki, I'm charged $2 for parking. The only area Longs CVS EXCELLED at was INCOMPETENCE.... Add MORE NEGATIVE STARS... I doubt there will be any response by Longs Drugs class act management! read more

This 5-star review is for the Long's in the Ala Moana center. I signed up online for a CVS card on a Saturday morning and was able to use my Extra Savings 30 minutes later in the store. The cashier was amazing... quick, friendly and she explained my future savings. My husband and I walked into their pharmacy for flu shots. The woman who checked us in and the pharmacy tech who vaccinated us, were both over the top friendly, fast and professional. The cashiers at this store are always kind and fast, plus they always tell me how much I saved. Whenever I am at Ala Moana Center I tend to find myself stopping in at Longs Drugs for some last minute items to pick up. There's a lot of merchandises for a customer to choose from whether it be for every day use like lotions, hygiene products, packaged beverages, and even can goods. People can also pick up greeting cards, gift cards, or even get their passport photo taken. (I had my passport photo taken here many years ago...the year before the Summer Olympics in China). The store is always clean and well stock. Employees are always busy with stocking of merchandises or ringing up the many customers that come to purchase what they need for home or a day at the beach. My most recent visit I had purchased some skin care lotions, mouthwash, and deodorant. I was searching for a checkout line with the least amount of people until I seen one cashier raise her hand and say "I can help you at this checkout line." Since I had several items to purchase the cashier asked if I wanted to have a brown bag...I quickly turned around and grabbed one of the small green eco friendly bags that was on sale for 99 cents. I showed my ExtraCare card to the cashier in order to receive discount receipts for certain items that's listed whether it be for $2.00 off $15.00 pain reliever, $2.00 off $6.00 Neutrogena, $1.50 off $4.00 deodorants, $1.00 off any Sensodyne toothpaste, or $1.00 off (3) Clif bars. I also received $2.00 rewards in extra bucks from Longs. Fast, friendly, and outstanding service from the cashier who rang me up at the checkout counter. Yes, you can shop at Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Banana Republic, have breakfast, lunch or dinner, snack on See's Candy, Yami Yogurt, enjoy entertainment at the Center's stage and then top everything off shopping at the Ala Moana Longs. But I think this is really a woman's perspective of shopping at this particular Longs. I think that men have a different perspective about shopping at the Ala Moana Center Longs. A woman shouldn't ask her husband or boyfriend to go shopping with her at the Ala Moana Longs because men know what that means. Men know this Longs opens late and it mean's they will be at the Ala Moana Center sitting in the mall for at least three hours; falling behind in their yardwork, or not be able to play golf, watch auto racing, college or pro football, basketball, baseball; while relaxing in front of their 48" HDTV, drinking a nice cold beer. Woman just don't get it! A man would much rather shop at a 24 hour Longs where a man can shop before a man does all these important things that a man must do. Most pharmacy departments just take your prescription form, prepare it and have it ready for you to pick up. Today I stopped by the pharmacy department to drop off a prescription form and waited about 5 minutes in line while the lady ahead of me was complaining to the clerk about Longs Drugs CVS policy for prescription pills. Of course the clerk refused to break the law just to make the lady happy. As I was waiting, a lady dressed in purple coat walked towards me, carrying a basket of water and candy. I quickly noticed she worked in cosmetics department and wondered what she was doing in the pharmacy department walking towards me with a smile on her face. Much to my surprise, the purple lady asked if I would like a water bottle and candy since I was waiting. I was slightly shocked and pleased, but I quickly declined since I was neither thirsty or craving candy. The purple coat lady responded "the refreshments are free." After that statement, how can I refuse? I have never been treated very well as I did today. I will certainly come back knowing I am treated with a warm smile and care. On the mainland, our local Longs wasn't much to look at and was kind of on the lame and dirty side for drug stores. In Hawaii, it's that local must stop where all the locals ask, "Eh, you git da Longs book dis week?" Referring to the weekly coupon book that comes out in the newspaper. This specific one is the busiest one on the island. Between the locals and visitors shopping here it really is a wonder how they keep everything stocked so well. As a whole, I actually really like Longs Drugs, but I don't really care for this particular location. If I ever go here, it's because I'm already at the Ala Moana mall, so it's convenient. I haven't been here recently, but whenever I would go, the service would be either hit, or miss. There have been times where workers don't really know how to help me, but other times where they're genuinely friendly and helpful. Their merchandise isn't the cheapest around, but when they have sales, they're really good ones. Their cashiers are either hit, or miss also. Once I had a cashier, and I guess she didn't like the way I put away my little basket, because she stopped what she was doing, left her post and fixed the basket right in front of me. Who does that?!? She had a sassy attitude and clearly didn't care that I was giving them my business. On another occasion, I was standing in line and some tourists clearly cut RIGHT in front of me. I was shocked and pretty peeved off, but I didn't say anything. I'm not sure if one of the other workers saw this, but another cashier came from behind and tapped me on my shoulder and told me that she was opening another line and that she could help me there. That was nice of her--so I wasn't so mad anymore. So I guess it just depends on whomever is working at the time--sometimes they're nice, sometimes they're not. I know that dealing with customers all day long and constantly being on your feet, must take a toll on the employees, but please fake some kindness for the sake of your customers. I hate this Long's Drugs Store. It's crowded, cramped and limited in items compared to other stores. Albeit that it is a drug store in the mall, this place is packed with rude tourists, and old people that block your way. There aren't enough cash registers open, and parking at the mall sucks - especially with all that construction going on in the parking lot. I went here twice to get my medication. The pharmacists were clueless. One called me on my cell to come in. When I came in, no one knew what I was talking about. Really annoying. I'll just stick to going to the Kapolei one... read more

Such a convenient location for people in town! I love Longs, it's my favorite store of it's kind. The prices are cheaper than Foodland and Safeway, and they have a pharmacy and photo lab(one hour processing chee!). Not a place for produce or "groceries", but definitely the best to get snacks, cheap makeup, drinks, etc. All the dry, nonliving things. I usually stop by whenever i'm at the mall to pick up SOMETHING. Whether it's a candy bar, vitamins, or a Monster, I usually never leave Longs empty handed. I remember coming here as a kid. When they would have a toilet paper sale, my dad would arm each of us kids with a coupon, and all of us would stand in line behind each other. Good memories. Fast forward a few decades, and Longs is still more a variety store than it is a drug store. I loved all the local products that brought me back to my youth. The good things about this place is that it is huge, and convenient only if you happen to be in the mall at the time and want to grab some goodies or toiletries and what not. This place inevitably gets super crowded on the weekends, but if you know where to look you should be in-and-out of here in no time!
