Love, love, love Lorentz!! I found it by accident (kind of). I was just looking for something to do in my neighborhood, walked by, saw noticed they were starting a new beginner class. I was SO nervous. I've always thought I could dance... but def not salsa. It looked intimidating and not for someone like me. I don't exactly have coordination. I almost didn't go in. But when I looked through the window and saw how many people were signed up, and that they looked just like me, I felt a sense of comfort. I'm so glad I walked through that door. A year later, I still consider myself a beginner. I'm not that great. I still mess up. I slip in my heels all of the time. Truth is if you really want to get better, you have to show up to socials too (which I don't do :x ) But those two hours every week are probably the best two hours of my week. Feels like therapy. Chris and Rosh are amazing my fav duo. I couldn't have asked for better instructors. I've always felt welcome, supported, and never judged. When the studio closes for weather or holidays, I actually get sad without my salsa steps If you're shy, nervous, or convinced you "can't dance," that was me. You eventually stop overthinking and just let go. And that's kind of the magic. 12/10! Hope to see you on the dance floor!! read more

Wonderful and unique experience! I came to the Lorenz Latin Dance studio as part of a celebration for my dear friend on her birthday. She booked a salsa class for her family and friends to participate, in early April. Lorenz Latin Dance studio is located in the heart of Spanish Harlem (now known as East Harlem). The space is small but I like that because it allows for a personalized experience and no one gets left out. Instantly upon walking in, we were greeted and allowed to start right on time. The studio seems to be very community oriented as they host a number of activities throughout the month. Let me say firstly, that salsa is not at all what I thought it was lol. That little two-step you see on TV was nothing of what I learned during this event. Our instructor Jose (I believe that was his name), took time to educate with grace and rhythm! He took us step-by-step thru a basic salsa routine that included diverse foot work, a couple spins, and some partnering moves. When all was said and done, we were able to successfully complete a small routine with some basic techniques. Overall, very fun and a great opportunity for families, solo, or couples to partake! Our group had a variety of adult ages including elderly, who seemed to keep up without issues. In total, the class was about 1 to 1.5 hours however, I'm not sure what the cost was. The only thing I would've loved to see, is the instructor actually performing a routine for us. It's great to do the class but to actually see what the routine looks like professionally, really ties everything together. Otherwise, it was great! I would definitely return and highly recommend. Tip - wear comfy shoes! I work 3 inch heels and got tired so quick. read more

I was taking salsa classes here this past fall and really enjoyed them at first, but the instructor I had, Jose, tried to initiate an inappropriate relationship with me even though he was dating someone that also worked in the studio. He was very inappropriate. I ended up switching my instructor to a different one who was actually decent but ultimately stopped going to the studio because the whole experience made me uncomfortable. Sad because I would still be taking classes if that hadn't happened! read more

No one left behind," is the impression I got from the start! Everyone is so engaging in making sure you are getting and learning the dance moves. I enjoy the lay back atmosphere, yet the dedication each instructor puts in, to ensure you learn. Instructors are always available to teach any requested dance moves on demand. I was able to perform within months of joining the studio. I'm going into my first anniversary of joining this studio, and my second upcoming performance. I highly recommend this dance studio. This studio has my heart. It was the first studio that I started dancing Salsa with as a long time passion. Over the years the staff have become friends. I always recommend this studio for first time dancers because they will help you find the passion you are looking for and get out into the salsa scene that is so dominant in New York. It's a progressive program so you have to go every week and build on what you learn from. The instructors are always willing and able to show you what you missed out on! I've reached out to multiple places for salsa classes for my 2 children. This is the only studio my girls felt comfortable going. At first, I didn't want to pay tolls plus travel to the city on a weekly basis but I had to do it for them. After a couple of times going I looked forward to it, not only because of my children but the staff showed great hospitality and made my children and I feel welcomed. Lorenz is where I learned how to dance salsa. I started in December of 2014 and I have been coming every week since then. I love that the class is 2 hours. The first part of the class is individual shines work, and the second part of the class is partner work. Chris is an amazing instructor and breaks everything down so that everyone understands. Rosh dances with Chris and always demonstrates how to do the shines with her amazing styling. Each class we learn a new partner work routine that is very socially friendly, and the style is soooo slick and smooth. Every time I come to class at Lorenz, I always leave feeling happy and inspired by Chris and Rosh's dancing. All of the Lorenz dancers are so nice and helpful, and you can see how much they are enjoying themselves. Their social once a week plays the best music and dancers of all levels are having the best time. I always find myself watching the advanced dancers and feel so inspired because 1) they have amazingly smooth moves & technique and 2) they are relaxed and enjoying themselves. I feel very lucky that I learned how to dance salsa at Lorenz. I started taking the classes in the Manhattan studio, as a total beginner. The classes are weekly, and you can easily make-up any missed classes. The folks that work there are friendly and helpful. The teachers are knowledgeable, skilled, and have great personalities. I've mostly had Jose as instructor, and he's patient, helpful, and stresses the different moves, whether its the hands, arms, footwork, etc.. Although its a group class, he and the demo assistants are watching and see/point out when something is wrong ... as is often the case with me! but I've been there, learned there... Want to dance Salsa? How about Bachata? Maybe you have a trip to PR coming up and you need some basics so you don't look like a complete idiot. LLDS is the place to be (I sound like their sales person). I would never promote a dance studio that didnt know what they were doing. I love this place!!! And it's cheap compared to other studios in Manhattan--$55/mo and if you take 2 diff dance classes they give you a discount (instead of paying $110). The instructors are amazing... Chris and Jose are truly great at what they do. I know Chris better since he's my instructor... He's very patient, has a great personality, and really knows his stuff. I can tell he's been dancing for years. What to expect when you walk in: A friendly greeting from the staff-- check in. First 30min or so you learn shines. Chris plays music and you review what you already learned. Then he teaches the new steps of the day & you review. Then partner work. You team up with a guy/gal. Don't worry-- you get to dance with every guy/gal in the class. Sorry if you're shy but this will def help that problem. If you stick it out, which you most likely will do because it's so much fun, the class will be your dance family. You will plan on coming to Friday night socials with some and join the student dance team with others. I recommend you get your butt to LLDS Manhattan asap. My 12yr old daughter takes lessons there and LOVES it. They're great with kids and everyone has lots of fun. The instructors are really down to earth and approachable. Taking Salsa Classes at Lorenz Latin Dance Studio is the best decision I made in 2017. I have been at it for 9 months and I have to say I have actually learned how to dance Salsa. My instructor Jose is the best. The atmosphere is fantastic. The classes are two hours and the system they use works. I never thought I could do it but woohoo I can. I am planning on continuing to dance. The price is unbeatable at $55 per month and $45 per month for students. Every Friday they have social dancing where you can practice your new acquired skills. And have I mentioned that my instructor Jose Mariscal is super great. The other Instructor Chris is also fabulous. Everyone is friendly and its a lot of fun. I started Beginner Level 1 Salsa classes the beginning of April after years of wanting to try but being intimidated by not having a partner to join me. Well...this place is great and no partner necessary!! The instructor,Chris, is super nice, very knowledgeable, tons of good energy and the class moves at a pace where everyone has a chance to learn the steps. It's also really affordable--I paid $55 for four weekly 2-hour classes. Once the first month is over, the class proceeds to Beginner Level 2 and so on. I just started my second month and plan to stick with it and maybe attend a couple of the Friday night socials. I highly recommend this studio for anyone interested in dance lessons! read more

I've taken salsa classes while traveling in South America but no one was able to explain the moves to me like the pros at Lorenz. After the first class I knew that this was the right place for me. As a novice I had no idea how to count the beats in the music. How can you practice the moves if you aren't listening to the music correctly ? Apparently other schools assume that you already know how to do this. Never assume anything ! The owner is a great dancer and a great teacher. He has developed a program that WILL WORK for you if you put the effort into it. His sense of humor is an added bonus. Affordable prices and beautiful women. What's not to love ? After more than 50 years of inaction, I walked into Lorenz in Manhattan nervous, never having taken a dancing lesson and finally working up the courage to learn. After my first six 2-hour group lessons ( beginners class every Sunday ), I can say it is one of the best and most fun things I have ever done. A beautiful studio with great dance instructors and a family environment. I love my salsa and bachata classes. I get help from the instructor and from any one of the many assistants who are easy to find with their black and yellow tee shirts. Everyone is so pleasant to talk to and the studio is always clean. I also love the Friday night dance socials where we dance and practice what we're learning in class. This is a safe and family style setting to come and learn to dance and have fun.
