When you sign up it should say that. I just don't like the way the whole situation was dealt with. I was really looking forward to it but I definitely don't want to come The least the instructor could have done was made an accommodation for one class and have me take the "intro" class another day. This experience left such a bad taste in my mouth I never want to come back and I would never recommend this place to any of my friends. I have yet to get a response from the

While she did extend class time to make up for that, it doesn't change the fact that it could mess up a person's schedule. Anywho, I had a blast! And it is a complete body workout! If you're doing it right, you will feel sore. My class was a group of mixed levels and she was attentive to everyone's needs. It was only a few of us, so I'm not sure what my experience would have been in a larger sized class. I loved the musical selection, it's nice and ratchet lol... it's motivating! I'd definitely go back if I was in the NYC area again. P.S.- They offer you fresh fruit and wine... but eat/drink at the end, please lol.

It opened with The Cookout. Let's just say....It was a cookout that I would have left early....before the ribs were done and the potato salad came out. The dance came off tentative and not strongly executed. The movements seemed effortless and not very challenging. With songs like Bra and Movin by Brass Construction....I expected some powerhouse stand-out performances and felt disappointed. At first I thought it was just me but when the dance ended, my best friend said...."that looked more like a rehearsal". The costumes did not do it for me and I think this should have involved more dancers in vinettes telling different stories you would see at at cookout...."The drunk Uncle" The dancing Auntie that turns up......young folk crazy dances all interpreted through modern jazz and ballet. Even the sexy male lead dancers ...(and did I say SEXY) could not save this lackluster dance. This was clearly not DTH's lane. Like when Ailey did "Home" paying Homage to the Paradise Garage days paired with the aids crisis....I felt that all through my body...it connected and certainly resonated with everyone. The other three DTH pieces were brilliantly executed and beautiful to watch. This was truly their lane. All of the Principle dances were absolutely amazing!!!! Kouadio Davis' presences is captivating as well as Derek Brockington. Elias Re has the most beautiful long arms making his extensions memorable. Wanted to see more of this dancer. Carly Greene was FABULOUS!!!!!!!

This Business is Horrible…read more The owner Jessica Had stolen my money for my Children's fashion show event schedule for March 14 2015. I gave her a deposit of $750 dollars. I was schedule to have two rehearsal dated for Saturday March 7th and Sunday March 8th both 3 hours a piece 3pm to 6pm and my event for Saturday March 14th. On that Saturday the 7th Jessica had double booked us with another party who also had a contract for both floors at the same time and the same floors as my rehearsal. Because of this over booking the party upstairs became very rude to my guest and physically bumping my child models and their parents and they also took the initiative to verbal abuse my clients as soon as 6pm reach in order to speed up the process of them leaving. I tried to reach Jessica about the matter who wouldn't answer her phone or call me back. On the following day that Sunday I was supposed to have both floors to rehearsal Jessica's son (whom I ask not to be present around my Clients even before signing my receipt and doing business with this company because of his rude manner and Jessica reassured me he wouldn't) past me his phone with Jessica on the line who had cursed at me numerous times and threaten to cancel my event if I didn't give her more money than the remaining balance we had agreed and signed on, just because she didn't like the fact that I was demanding both floors as was promised to me. Also she had wanted the remaining price that day (a week before our original agreement) or else I would not be having my event and I would not be getting whatever remaining balance back. After hanging up the phone on me and not giving me a chance to speak, I had tried calling Jessica numerous times. It wasn't until I called for a business partners phone had I gotten in contact with her and once again she threaten not to give me my money back and also charged me high rates for my rehearsal time when she is listed online with prices that are clearly way lesser onhourspaces.com(where I found her and all the studios I rent from). Please I need help with this Situation I was forced to cancel my event yesterday because of short time to find another venue and I lost a lot of money and clients because of it. I had to reimburse for tickets sales and vendor space which cause me to lose money also I lost money on a deposit for my Disk Jockey, celebrity host and staff. I was told that Jessica doesn't even own the property, that she is the care taker. If I could get in contact with the true owners and inform them of what their employee is doing that would be much appreciated before I take this court and sue. I have also read about her reviews on popular websites such as yelp. Com, there is a long list of complaints about this women. I wish I would have done this before. Please someone help. Nikki brought an entirely different and equally valuable energy to the trip. The breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the Palisades make the visit even more memorable. There's also plenty of free parking, which makes getting there easy. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that it can get fairly crowded on beautiful weekends, but it's absolutely worth visiting and returning to throughout the year.

First time swimming in a public pool in NYC! I was initially I was worried about the crowds and…read morewater quality but it all turned out better than expected! After a quick bag search, I went upstairs to the women's locker room which was cleaner than expected. Staff were nice in reminding us to lock up our stuff. As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

I give props where they are due, so fuck it I am going to bestow 5 stars on this masterpiece of a studio. Jose and Chris seem to be very chill and charismatic people who are particularly on point. Their dancing counterparts Avery and Rosh also are very skilled. As a particularly kinesthetic and loving culture, it's a no brainer to study latin dancing from latin people. The instructors display, in addition to mastery, that convincing masculine/feminine polarity crucial to dancing and sustaining great relationships in general lol (REF: The way of the superior man by David Deida pub 1997). The social dynamics of the class are similar to a college class where everybody walks in all shy and unsure with a few confident people I guess then the usual conglomeration of friends, rebels, independent people, loud people, and quiet people EMERGES. Then the tentative friendships and flirtation etc. eventually appear to blossom...prob after about a month or so?? Anything beyond that (2+ mo's) and you are FAM YO. Atmosphere is very chill tho. I mean, people bring their kids there to chill during class (if their schedule gets too hectic I assume) and usually it's no problem. Basically it seems to be a simulacrum of college, it is a class after all, but there is a wider age-group and the professors are more chill. TBH it's like a MICROCOSM of the universe. (REF: bhagavad gita published 2nd century B.C.E.) Very friendly, true true, all that...but any dude who gets on a first name basis with the upper levels, and has even a modicum of swag juice, is going to be a happy man. Once it's spontaneous, and your moves are just coming off the top smooth like butter, it's pretty much over for the competition. If you have a couple BFFs and the means to trot the globe, I mean, with just this one skillset pulling the honeys will be like attracting small, small staples and paper clips to a 30 mile diameter CHARGED super magnet directly above. Also works the same way for Ladies to EASILY attract that confident, suave, debonair mercenary killer James Bond charmer that they've all been DREAMING ABOUT. I mean yeah, if you're globe trotting it's probably better to learn all the various styles of the salsa game, but I'm guessing it's wayyyy way easier to learn the other styles after you UP YOUR STEELO with lorenz salsa??? amirite? (REF: Casino Royale, 2006) I saw the 1 star comment by Noel and I lol'ed a little bit but that's pure mid-life crisis hate right there. This STUDIO is like a cornucopia. It is a diverse melting pot of sentient life which has assembled during this fleeting moment in space/time. In 10 years you're gonna be wondering - "where did the time go" so you might as well be a boss/bossette at salsa by that time (or well b4 that time;) tehehe) b/c it can only enhance your life. You will notice many people are rather frightened, nervous or standoffish at first but that's bc they're human and a bit nervous at learning new material with new ppl just like you. I find these behaviors to be providential because it lets you know that, while you might not vibe rainbows and unicorns with every1 (unless you are leading the group on some boss shit), you are learning a skill with fellow human beings who are not psycopaths. The psychopaths wouldn't get nervous ever and they'd prob be no good to be around long-term IMO, like they might try to kill you and shit so yeah, good to learn a dope skill with my fellow human comrades in an overall chill place with overall 5 star people. (REF. Handbook on Psychopathy and Law) They got free breath mints yo. I find this to be a nice touch bc I legit just enjoy the taste of mint lifesavers. Also this obvi makes your breath as crisp as cool morning air, slaloming down the Swiss alps during the brilliant sunrise of a new spring ADVENTURE...The mirrors are full length and span practically the entire width of the studio so I'd say you can effectively teach a class of 30 ppl easily there. You need these mirrors because while the pros make it look easy, you're gonna have to grind out the foot movements, hand moves, stay on beat, torso posture etc. etc. ad nauseam until you understand the levels of the game. In the beginning like driving a stick shift car it's hard to corral all these disparate elements into a coherent whole. However after some practice it starts to flow spontaneously. So IMO this is the best place to learn salsa where you don't have to learn from some stiff. The cavalier attitude of the teachers actually is part of what makes the place cool. I LOVE SALSA! Lorenz and its staff have helped me discover a new passion. The energy in the studio is so warm and inviting and encouraging to any first comers. All their locations are same in structure and even aesthetics. Classes are 1.5 hours and cover everything from shines to partner work. All concepts are broken down in a slow digest-able manner to allow group to learn together. If your looking to take up dance look no further. read more

This is a long, long overdue review so what I'm about to write may no longer apply…read more.. Anyway, way back in the day I was REALLY into salsa. This would have been in the timeframe of 2007-2010 perhaps... I had already taken classes at lots of other dance schools in Manhattan. I would say I was at a high intermediate level. I took my dancing very seriously, and I was more inclined to like the 'dancer's dancer' type studios....where it was all about carrying oneself like a professionally trained dancer. Eventually, of course, Santo Rico came onto my radar and I decided one day to brave it, and go for a group lesson there, all on my own. Now I'd already heard this would be a 'tough school', but....I was so not prepared for what I encountered. Perhaps I should first say that I already knew that the NYC ON-2 scene could be extremely competitive. I'd attended classes and socials at all the usual places...Carlos... Jimmy...Joe...Frankie....YSBD, etc., and had a few privates with Magna, Griselle, etc. When I first walked into Santo Rico, I naturally saw a bunch of other dancers in the studio who'd either just finished a class or were there for the next class. You could have cut the tension with a knife. (Or was I simply projecting, based upon what I'd already heard about this place??) Anyway, when it was time, I joined my group lesson. I recall the group was on the smaller side...there were maybe just six or so women and a more or less equal number of men. The teacher was a young latin male....perhaps in his late 20s at the time? As they say, a female salsa dancer is only as good as her lead. ;-) The man is supposed to give clear cues, and the woman is supposed to know how to interpret them. Up until this point, I normally had never had problems in group classes. But with this instructor, when it came time for us to rotate partners, and HE became my partner, it seemed that during our routine practice, I didn't 'interpret' a cue that he'd given me, 'correctly'. Most would say that HE was in the wrong...that he must not be a very good lead. But he, being the very small-minded man that he apparently was, actually 'yelled' at me, saying something like 'why did you do that....I didn't want you to turn!' (or something like that). I was so embarrassed and shocked that...I probably just blurted out something like '...I thought that's what you wanted me to do...'. In retrospect, his behavior was brutish, inappropriate and uncalled for. I, being so immersed in the NYC salsa scene at that time, however, allowed myself to feel embarrassed... as if maybe I DID do something wrong. But in fact, that's why we supposedly attend such schools...to LEARN. And I mean, it WAS my first time there, as this instructor full well knew. I understand that Santo Rico is all about creating the best of the best salsa dancers...that it's all about precision...and that their female dancers can spin on a dime. (It was their 'gangster' video from around 2008 or so, that inspired me to want to train there.) But, you can still try to create an atmosphere of excellence without having to be mean and embarrassing students. My experience there was such that I had no desire to return.

I realize that the owner was not friendly and did not have a pleasant demeanor. It is sad when a BLACK business that carters to BLACK people would have such unprofessionalism. Simone presented multiple options on how the lessons would occur and we opted for virtual lessons instead of in person lessons because my dance partner and I would have trouble commuting into NYC. I was worried about how effective these lessons would be, in an NYC living space with an instructor giving the lessons virtually. Relax, have no fear, Simone will be there! She even has a dancing dummy to demonstrate how Person A and Person B should stand/dance/act. Even with lessons conducted via video chat, Simone was able to catch the minor details that we would not have caught or even considered if we were to "learn" via Youtube (which a few of our friends did for their weddings, and it was obvious). For example, while doing a dip, Simone saw an opportunity and suggested that my partner (while being dipped) move her hand in a more graceful manner, a small movement added so much more meaning. We went in with no dancing skills and no idea what to do for choreography. All we had was our first dance song. After after lots of practice and guidance from Simone, when our first dance was performed, it was met with lots of cheer and practically a standing ovation from our friends and family when we hit the climax of the song and dance. Go with Simone. Don't underestimate the value of virtual lessons. She expressed patience and joy in helping us and I know she will continue to do so with all her customers.

I've been taking the online lunchtime dance workout class over Zoom for the last year and a half now, and it has been a lifesaver while working from home. It's a great opportunity to get some movement going in mid-day when I otherwise would be sitting in a chair all day. After the half hour class, I feel energized for the rest of my day. Also, the workout itself is mostly low impact, so I don't have to worry about getting too sweaty and needing to get a shower right away before going back to work. The dance steps are very accessible and she offers various modifications to the dance and workout level for people of different abilities.

The way salsa is usually taught, you become completely dependent on someone shouting out the counts to you, but Jonathan teaches you how to listen for elements of the music like the conga and the clave so that you actually learn to dance with the MUSIC. How novel. Thanks to Jonathan I was finally able to make the switch over from dancing on one to dancing on two. For those who don't know what that means, it basically means I will no longer be stepping on all my dance partners toes anymore in New York. He succeeded where all other dance studios in NYC failed. Finally, Jonathan is passionate about what he does, he'll launch into long spiels about the history and roots of the dance in the middle of class. Even though he clearly takes the dance seriously, he still manages to make the classes a lot of fun and teach to a very mixed level group. I stumbled upon the school from an online deal several moons ago and was so impressed with the quality of the classes and how mentally stimulating they were. Many activity or art form classes in NYC feel over-diluted or factory-assembly-line-esque. Not so at this tango school. The classes are well structured, with clear goals and directions. With all honesty, Jeni is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life so far. Elegant without haughtiness. She is effective and direct while being very encouraging and kind. Furthermore, Jeni and Mathew, they enable and inspire their students to learn. One can sense their genuine desire for the students to excel, from the frequent and valuable personalized feedback they provide during class. I highly recommend Jeni's Tango Academy if you are interested in tango. I've tried a few other studios, and I always got the feeling that teachers often just go through the motions; they love tango, but not necessarily teaching. Jeni and Matthew love both, and you feel it during every moment of their class; day in, day out. Their enthusiasm doesn't fade. This has made all the difference in my ~1 year of learning Tango (with no prior dance experience), during which I felt I've learned at a substantially faster rate than I would have otherwise. As a matter of fact, when people ask me how long I've been dancing, my answer is usually met with disbelief. I credit this wholly to Jeni's approach to teaching, which is forgiving enough to let you enjoy the dance and stay encouraged, but also disciplined enough to keep pushing you to the next level. Not only that, but Jeni's personality seems to attract and retain the most grounded, multi-faceted, and wholesome crowd of students. She took her time explaining the machine, was very attentive to everyone in the class and made the class enjoyable and fun. I purchased their new members deal that included 2 classes for $40 and can't wait to go back. Classes are small with about 8 reformers for each class which makes the experience intimate and not intimidating. There are lockers for you to place your things in and a nice bathroom for anyone who may need to change clothes before class.
