I am very disappointed with my experience and feel that the training investment I made for my dog has not been fulfilled as promised. Jacob is very personable, knowledgeable, and clearly has experience with dog training. However, it has now been nearly a year since I enrolled in the training program, and only a fraction of the training I was originally promised has been completed. I paid over $1,000 for the program, and at this point, my dog has primarily learned basic commands such as "down," "stay," and not pulling on the leash. I was initially very happy with the training, but my concerns began when a prong collar was introduced and later transitioned to a shock collar. At our very first meeting, I specifically expressed that I was uncomfortable with the use of a shock collar and did not want one used on my dog. I was never informed that this would be necessary for her training. However, I later learned that it appeared to have been part of the intended training approach all along. Another major concern was that my dog became extremely fearful of the trainer. During sessions, she would often try to get away from him and was unable to focus or make meaningful progress. Interestingly, she would work very well with me when the trainer was not present. I communicated these concerns, but I did not feel that they were adequately addressed. I also became increasingly frustrated by the lack of communication. There were times when I felt that the trainer was avoiding contacting me, and sessions would only be scheduled after I reached out and expressed my concerns. We continued working on many of the same things during each session without seeing the progress I expected from the program. Eventually, I asked whether a partial refund would be possible because I felt the training was no longer progressing and that the trainer did not want to continue working with either me or my dog. During the conversation that followed, I was told that the trainer was hesitant to continue working with my dog because of her allergies and because she had previously required surgery to remove a cancerous mass. I understand that these may be valid concerns, but I was disappointed that this was not communicated to me earlier. It took me requesting a partial refund before I received an explanation for the lack of continued training. Since that conversation, I have not heard anything further from either the trainer or the company regarding my dog's training or how the situation would be resolved. Despite the training program not being completed, I have continued being charged. I do want to acknowledge that Jacob was initially helpful in working with me financially and adjusting the training price to make the program more affordable. I appreciated that accommodation. However, I feel that the discounted pricing should not be a reason for the training program to remain incomplete or for my concerns to go unresolved. Overall, I expected much more from this company. It might seem obvious, but life is so much easier with two well-trained dogs! I reached out to Lorenzo's Dog Training to work with my 4-year-old female Malamute, Luna, who was reactive to other dogs on walks and becoming increasingly aggressive and possessive of resources with our 9-year-old male Malamute, Rex. Rene from Lorenzo's came to our home for an initial assessment of both dogs. It was a bit of an embarrassing experience, to be honest! Both dogs were howling uncontrollably (which isn't their usual behavior), and we had a hard time getting them to settle down. Rene immediately noticed Luna's shift in behavior as she started to fixate on Rex before trying to attack him, and he had us separate them. He suggested a 2-week board-and-train program for Luna to work on basic training and behavior modification, and at-home sessions for Rex to focus on basic obedience. Rex knew the commands, but being the stubborn Malamute that he is, he chose to ignore them! It was hard for me to let Luna go; I was so worried about her being away from home. But Rene sent updates, videos, and pictures of her progress, and I was amazed at how much she improved in just a few days! She was walking alongside other dogs without issue and even in the same room with them without trying to attack. While Luna stayed with Rene, we started at-home sessions for Rex, focusing on basic things like proper leash handling to set the foundation for the rest of the training. Eight sessions later for Rex, and after Luna's board-and-train, they are like new dogs! They both listen to commands when given; the selective listening is gone. They can both walk on and off leash--we even walked around Santana Row with them off-leash! Not distracted by other people or dogs. Friends and family have commented on how well-behaved they are. There isn't 160+ pounds of dog rushing the door when people come over. They don't beg at the table. I can unload groceries, cook, do anything without constantly telling them to move or not run out the door. We can actually take them just about anywhere and know they will behave. These were all things I didn't consider when I reached out to Lorenzo's Dog Training. I was just hoping to fix some behavioral issues. If we had to do it all over again, we'd do it without hesitation! A little background -- we adopted Tiger back in 2021 and our 3-year-old boy is a 100 lbs GSD/pitbull mix who dealt with aggression out of fear and anxiety. He was the easiest puppy, but once he got to the age of two he started pulling in every which way direction during our walks, barked like crazy whenever the doorbell rang or someone knocked, and would lunge and bark at any dog (whether small or large) on walks and car rides. This was unfortunate because Tiger loved going out with us yet his reactivity made every outing stressful since we always had to check our surroundings for other dogs. Both my bf and I have fallen due to Tiger's pulling and we've also had to break up fights between Tiger and other dogs. We watched SO many YouTube videos on "how to condition your dog out of reactivity", but implementation is definitely easier said than done when it comes to DIY dog training. We love Tiger like crazy and wanted his life to be as fulfilling as possible, but felt discouraged as we couldn't have him be a liability and a danger to other dogs. So, fast forward to January 2024, I was venting to a friend about our dilemma with Tiger and she shared how her 7-year-old pup dealt with similar behavioral issues until they went through training with Lorenzo's Dog Team. I can't recommend Rene at Lorenzo's Dog Training enough! Rene came to our home for personalized training sessions with our 2 Frenchies. We were having behavioral issues where both dogs had very little impulse control and also were becoming aggressive towards other dogs, even starting to fight each other. We had had tried other dog trainers prior and had been going to group classes and 1-1 trainings for months since the onset of problems began about a 6 months ago. Where other trainers failed, Rene was able to succeed. Rene taught us how to build influence with our pups, helping us set the tone that we're in charge and their aggressive behavior was not acceptable or needed. His reinforcement techniques were effective, and he really focused on strengthening our relationship with our pups. After just a few weeks, both dogs are much more well-behaved. In August 2023 (7 months ago), I adopted Bubba, a 3.5 year old 85 pound HUGE rottweiler-shepherd mix who had been in four homes before mine (not his fault). While he had been through training through the rescue organization I got him from, he was a lot to deal with. I immediately began searching for trainers. Lorenzo's was recommended by my vet, so I called, made an appointment, and Rene came to my house. When Rene arrived, Bubba lunged, barked, growled, and was generally uncontrollable. Rene asked that I show him what Bubba's training was, so I showed him how Bubba sort of heeled, sort of sat, sort of went "down," and sort of came. Bubba was quite resistant. Then Rene took Bubba, and within 10 minutes, I was already watching a different dog. Quite clearly Rene was there to train me, not Bubba. Over the course of the next month, Bubba was transformed through my education from crazy dog to a well-mannered, excellent companion. I now take Bubba everywhere with me - restaurants, Home Depot, the bank, the drug store, to get my hair done (yep, they allow him because he is so good), the pet store (of course - his very favorite destination) - I even took him to get a healthy IV drip (who knew they'd allow dogs!) and he just laid at my feet and smiled at everyone who came in. Bubba has stayed at hotels and vacation rentals with me. When he is in the car, he knows he must be lying calmly in the back seat and stay "down" until the door is opened, his leash in my hand, and his release command given ("Bubba out") after which he is to immediately sit. No crazy blasting about the back seat while the car is moving or potentially jumping into traffic when the door opens. I take Bubba hiking a lot and he is off leash wherever permitted. His recall is instant. When he is at a distance, I can tell him "down" and he will go down wherever he is no matter how far away. Same with "sit." If I recall him to my heel, he looks like a military dog as he rushes over to my side. I am constantly complimented - and I mean ALL-the-time - on how well trained my dog is. When Bubba and I go for walks around my neighborhood, we are unfortunately subjected to poorly trained dogs who lunge, bark, growl, and generally pull at the end of their leashes aggressively trying to get to Bubba. I ask Bubba to heel, and he ignores all the poorly behaved dogs. I don't. I hate it and it takes away my peace. I hate it when we go to restaurants and dogs are barking or jumping about - all of this makes people dislike dogs in public places for good reason. Training your dog has two purposes. First, it gives you the companion you envisioned. A joy to have in the house, a well-mannered addition. Second, it is your responsibility as a dog owner to present the public with a well-behaved player in the scene. It is unfair to take your dog out in public only to bring it and everyone around it (you included) stress. Rene is no-nonsense and will get the job done. Finding a dog trainer is not easy, especially being somewhat new to the area. My husband and I completed a basic training for our poodle/chihuahua/dachshund rescue mix Lincoln a year prior but it was treat-based and difficult to maintain if we didn't have treats with us at all times. That's where Jollene came in to help. We started our basic obedience training with an at-home evaluation where both Jollene and Emmanuel assessed how Lincoln interacted with us. They also demonstrated some techniques, which quickly changed his behavior. We knew he needed more discipline and wasn't respecting us to listen to commands so this was a good evaluation to help us understand a different training technique; one that was just what we needed. After completing his training, he's a completely different dog. He now stays by our side until released and thinks twice before he does something (e.g. lunging at strangers, running towards small children, charging and barking aggressively at other dogs, nipping at peoples heels--these are just some of the bad behaviors we couldn't correct before!). Jollene was incredibly patient with us and Lincoln throughout the training, tailoring the sessions to focus on his specific challenges. A lot of the training was for us to learn how to properly and consistently communicate with our pup. We can see now that he truly respects and trusts us enough to listen to our commands and, most importantly, trust people! He used to be so overprotective of us and dominant around strangers, and he's gotten a lot better about not barking or snarling at someone he doesn't know because we're reassuring him that it's okay. My wife and I have worked with Rene and Lorenzo's team twice in the last 4 years on two different dog adoptions. One with an adult German Shepherd and another with a Pit Bill puppy. We are super happy and satisfied with the investment we made into this training! We signed up for the 12 week training program with Jollene and Emmanuel for our American pit bull terrier, Luna, and it worked wonders. Luna is our rescue and has separation anxiety and started showing leash reactivity to other dogs and adult strangers about 6 months after we adopted her. I tried a few other trainers and classes with no real improvement before finding Lorenzo's. Jollene and Emmanuel were prompt and professional at the initial evaluation and explained their training methods thoroughly, answering all of our questions. At first we were a little doubtful that Luna was showing improvement, and really didn't know if she would ever not be reactive, but slowly and surely throughout the training program, we started to see her respond to commands and heel nicely. We were also trained on how to be consistent with commands, corrections when needed, and positive reinforcement as well as the importance of working with her every day. Even when we/Luna had setbacks, Jollene and Emmanuel were always responsive to our concerns and reassuring about the process and the need to see the training through to the end. By our last session, Luna was heeling perfectly on walks, ignoring other dogs (even those yapping at her!), walking calmly by people, and now looks to us to know how to act. Jollene and Emmanuel worked as a team in training us and Luna, and we're so grateful to them and happy that we can help Luna live her best life alongside us. I'm no longer fearful when I see dogs walking towards us, knowing that we are equipped with the tools to manage her and that she knows we're the leaders. She ripped holes into my couch... destroys everything... she is not trained whatsoever. 4 thousand dollars is a lot and I shouldn't hVe to pay for another trainer out of pocket. This is absolutely ridiculous and I feel I got robbed. If I could put negative stars I would as this group took 4k from me to to train my dog how to sit and lay for 6 months (including Xmas). my baby was returned to me like she was in the pound for months and bloody from being in heat. On top of that, all she was trained to do is sit and lay. They use ruthless methods on your dogs like shock collars (which have been dropped off the shelves of places like petco). I never even knew what it was until running into Lorenzos dog training . What a joke... anyone can put a shock collar on a dog and shock them when they do something bad. I'm sure the dog would eventually get the picture . This place is a complete mess and absolute nightmare to deal with and is all about one thing -- $$$. After advising everyone at this company what went on I ended up asking for a refund to help pay for my eviction (due to her barking and crying) and to help pay for new training as clearly this was not a good fit and they should not have accepted training my puppy in the first place. I had tried tried my best to train him on my own but he was still very reactive on walks and it was getting progressively worse which is why we called LDTT. We couldn't have been more pleased with Jollene and how she gave us the key foundations as first-time dog owners. It was amazing to see the transformation! I am incredibly happy that I made the investment in this training program. I signed up for the 12 weeks of training with Jollene and I am completely satisfied with the results! Although my dog, Charlie, was relatively well behaved, he had some behavioral issues and listening issues we needed to work on. The training started with an at-home evaluation to understand how Charlie responds to me and how he would respond to training and corrections. It requires a lot of owner commitment to stick with the training during the week and make sure you are enforcing good behaviors and correcting bad behaviors. We adopted an AmStaff/Boxer/Beagle rescue mix last year and we've tried many trainers who gave us good tips along the way. However, Teddy's fear of humans and him being under socialized got so bad to the point where he has bitten people and even animal control was involved. My husband and I felt helpless and vented to our local vet for advice. One of the doctor's recommended Emmanuel, whom has helped many of their patients and owners who are trying to figure out how to have a harmonious life with their dogs. Fun fact, Emmanuel's partner Jolene worked at our local vet so they stand by the quality and results. Emmanuel is amazing. We've tried multiple places and interviewed various trainers before we finally found Emmanuel. He is very professional. There wasn't a time when I didn't feel comfortable, because it was obvious he had everything under control, like when we took Socrates (our dog) for a walk in the shopping mall, without a leash. In any situation, he always had a clear explanation and advice on how to handle it. Emmanuel uses both positive and negative reinforcement which is something I disagreed with at first -- I believed in praise-only style and it was pretty hard for me to give Socrates corrections at first. However, soon I realized that when I'm very clear with my gestures and corrections, the dog learns super quickly and I didn't need to give him that many corrections. More importantly, I observed Socrates and realized the more training we did together, the more he liked me, and when every time Emmanuel showed up at our house Socrates was excited, so I figured these occasional corrections didn't cause any harm. I've never trained a dog myself before, so I don't have any comparison, but I was astonished how quickly Socrates learned. In about ten weeks, with less than 30mins training a day, our dog learned how to heel, sit, lay down, stay and come on command, etc. There is still some polishing we need to do (like not chewing everything he can find), but I can take him for a walk without a leash, and other dogs or squirrels won't be a problem, Socrates will walk or run by my heel. We adopted our pit bull (Archer) a couple of months ago! On the first day of meeting Emmanuel (trainer), he already had Kuma following commands even though it was just an evaluation. It really brought tears to my eyes because what would have taken me plenty of times to have Kuma follow a command, took Emmanuel only once. We (my husband and I) went through weeks of learning and practicing with Kuma. The entire time, Emmanuel was down to earth, patient, and very helpful. His instructions were clear and organized and he adapted to whatever situations happened. Here's a back story of our dog Kuma. Kuma is a 1.5 year old German Shepherd mix at 80lbs. He's a big guy, definitely alpha, excitable, and likes to protect his boundaries. When other dogs come by, he tends to lunge at them because he wants to play--which in turn scares people and dogs around him. He loved to play keep away when it was time to sleep or time to go home. We've had instances where he zoomed out of the door and onto the street with cars driving by. Kuma after the training: I'm able to walk Kuma without him pulling the leash. He now stays by my side. I can even walk him WITHOUT a leash and it is amazing! He listens to commands on the first try. He will sit/lay down and stay when told. So much of him has changed. When other dogs pass by, they can bark at him all they want and Kuma will not pay them attention. He still has a goofy personality but when we need him to follow a command, he definitely does it. It was a great experience working with Rene. He was professional, supportive, accommodated our schedule and very responsive to our questions and emails.
